Recently, Mister Global, a male beauty pageant took place in Thailand. The event was founded in 2014 and since its first edition over 60 countries have sent their representatives to compete for the Mister Global Title. This year, 38 beautiful men decided to test their strengths in the pageant. The final was held in Bangkok on September 26 with the “Inspiring Gentleman” theme. However, this event is not merely a beauty contest, even though one of the main requirements of contestants is to be 'good looking' as the spokesperson of the pageant, Kitti Kamjunsa, told Bored Panda. "The aim of Mister Global is to promote environmental awareness, and we have been promoting this cause ever since we started in 2014. This year, we added a new motto "Inspiring Gentleman" because we believe that the contestants and titleholders should motivate others and be inspirational people. During this year's pageant, we did a fundraising event to support an organization that takes care of elephants in Thailand and it was successful, " Kamjunsa said. When asked what makes Mister Global different from other pageants the spokesperson explained: "Basically every pageant system is identical but what makes Mister Global different from the others is that we are part of the Top 5 Grand Slam Male Pageants. We have good quality contestants with inspiring stories to tell and great support from our national directors from around the world. We have also garnered much support from our many fans that follow us on our website and the official page. Most importantly, we are true on our advocacy of Environmental Awareness and charity cause."
The pageant was won by Korea‘s Jong Woo Kim, who is a 23-year-old police administration student and model. Jong Woo Kim is set to become an inspirational role model for young men all around the world. He will also become a Global Goodwill Ambassador and participate in environmental and charitable projects.
Same as every year, the most attention goes to pageant's national outfits showcase. After all, the representatives get the chance to demonstrate their countries heritage. "For us, we are really surprised that it went viral around the world and we welcome many positive comments. However, the creative costumes segment is nothing new in any pageant system as it has always been a part of it. The winning costume is not about the size or design but the story and culture behind it," Kamjunsa said. The national costume contest was won by Myanmar, it's safe to say that most of the contestants made their homelands' proud by rocking well crafted and intricate costumes. Right - for those have who their knickers in a twist saying that it's wrong to have a Boer dressed as a Zulu... he's not. I can see at least seven different cultures represented by what that guy is wearing. It's actually a pretty smart way to incorporate just about everyone who lives in South Africa in one image.
Ok firstly all you people. The pageants theme was "national ostume of your country" so it doesn't matter what colour your skin or your ethnicity, this is our NATIONAL costume!!!!!!! He is south African wearing our national costume. He may not be of Zulu but he is representing South Africa. We have 11 official languages and we are called the rainbow nation. WHY because we are so diverse in colours. Black, white, Asian, Indian, coloured. God, I cant believe some of the idiotic comments. 2nd we have Many ethnic groups that have different traditional outfits. There will not be a single south African who will judge a south African on wearing our national costume, in a theme representing OUR country. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
He’s representing his country not his 5000 year old DNA migration patterns. Everyone needs to relax.
Was anyone else shocked when they looked to see where this model was from? South Africa? I'm guessing his Ancestry DNA report would show a significant lineage from Scandinavian/European countries. But, I guess when you think about it, what's the difference with this and with an Asian or African American person representing the United States. I've talked myself out of my concern for this photo.
Dude...notto be weird here...I am from South Africa too....I am neon white
Load More Replies...Im proud of this guy representing my country. He is as South African as can be. We are a diverse nation. So any South African can represent SA.
Can't you give this a rest now? I AM A KHOISAN DECENDANT but it seems the world is more racist then they deem South Africa to be. What will you say if i wear my khoisan attire? That i am not Khoisan enough? Oh come on people! This is ludicrous.
Who said that to you? It's all gravy, sis. Keep doing you.
Load More Replies...He is representing his country, this isn’t about representing DNA migration patterns.
Isn't it ironic. If he was wearing some French or German or Portuguese or Dutch or British traditional wear (wherever he decents from way way waaaaay back), everyone would be pointing out how it doesn’t represent South Africa. So the conclusion is: somewhere, someone will be upset. No matter what. Hashtag: the country with 11 official languages and a million different opinions. At least we tend to unite when it comes to soccer and rugby.
This guy was doomed from the start. Wear this and people get mad. Wear Boer clothes and people would get mad, because that is not traditional wear.
Wow guys look at the history of South Africa. He most definitely is South African. https://www.sahistory.org.za/article/race-and-ethnicity-south-africa
He is an invader. IF you KNOW the history of south Africa, then you will know that. White people try to justify that shit every way they could.
Load More Replies...Okay this is coming from a black South African. I have absolutely no idea which culture he’s representing with that outfit. Looks like some freestyle beadwork... his fluffy shorts look feather like, never seen that in any of our cultures unless it was on a headdress. Still looks cool though, I hope he won.
As wrong as the guy representing the Czech Republic? Shame on you.
Load More Replies...The neck-chest piece is to die for. So colourful and festive compared to the black leather elements
Common misconception, but while caucasians are by no means the majority, a large percentage of the South African population are descendants of colonisers from way back in the 1600’s. I’m from South Africa, and though obviously we have a lot of POC, it actually not shocking to have a caucasian represent SA. Pretty much just as likely as having a POC representative.
“The 2011 census found that 63,479 white people living in South Africa were born in Europe; of these, 28,653 had moved to South Africa since 2001.”
Load More Replies...Objectively speaking user both side. White people have colonized South Africa from way back so the people born there are technically South African now for the other side prior too the colonization there were of course different tribes and that is what the “negative” comments are stating they’d like the original culture to be represented preferably by a person of color because as you can see even the Dominican Republic and Cuba had a lighter toned representation of the culture when CLEARLY there are millions of dark skinned people who could have represented them as well. Nobody is saying he’s not South African just that the original people where much darker.
So fucking what? Are you saying this white bloke should not partake in this contest because he is white. You are fetching the baboon from behind the mountain! Trek die hoender hit die holl. shame. His life now should not be limited because he is white. Notice how all the South Africans white and black alike are defending this guy and his wardrobe choice. As far as I'm concerned, if you have some sort of negative opinion about my country and my people and you are not even a South African, you can fuck off. Stop throwing uninformed opinions around.
Load More Replies...The South African should have been black. South Africa is a Black Country that whites stole.
Other way around. There is such systematic anti-white racism in SA, no reason there is hatred.
Load More Replies...Alright, everyone from south Africa, you need to read the comments here so all the people who are not from south Africa can tell you how things are and should be in your country. 🙄
Are people really arguing about who represents a country in a beauty pageant? Ffs, beauty pageants are ridiculous, vapid money contests. It shouldn't matter who represents which country because we shouldn't be so focused on something this superficial, but here we are.
Oh what I could do with your feathers. Talk about chicken-plucking.yeah!!!
What must one have to be South Afrrican? So l am also not south african?
Load More Replies...Oh oh oh my Gosh.......I'm feeling like a international road trip to see his outfit on him.
Why is he wearing African attire like his people didn’t enslave people, enforce apartheid, steal and commit murder of Africans. You don’t get to ruin a country and then be it’s face.
Boers are Dutch and they have done horrific things. Apartheid was abolished in 1990, only 29 years ago. Why is he wearing African attire, the audacity!
He is Marcus Karsten. His Facebook page reports he did not make the top 16.
I thnk ppl are upset because they chose to use a white South AFrican instead of a black South AFrican. WHite supremacy knows no bounds!! ANd only white ppl will see this as being okay. BUt go off...
What's with the DOuble caps? Is that a thing or just your flare?
Load More Replies...I think this has been one of the best national outfits from South Africa for men in a long time. Peter Bondesio the designer did an amazing job. Remember Marcus did not represent his German background or French or anything of that. He represented a Diverse multi nation: South Africa. JOB well Done to the designer Peter Bondesio who did this outfit putting together different cultures and including the Blue Crane Bird as the National Bird of South Africa. Clearly much thought and time went into this outfit.
Look I really find it annoying that any white person from SA is a boer to you guys. A boer is a farmer. Is he a fucking farmer? Google it. Also the word boer is Afrikaans. We have 11 official languages and plenty more if you count the unofficial languages. Some whites are English speaking and some are Afrikaans. An English speaking Afrikaner is not a boer. You have no depth in your knowledge so shut up instead.
Load More Replies...Ouch! There is much contention over the white SA. You cannot compare immigration into Europe or the transportation of slaves to America. The costume is simply offensive. If a white American was wearing a mixture of Native American dress this thread would be on fire with condemnation.
Rebecca how is it offensive? He is representing South Africa, wearing the national costume? Which SA people choose best to represent OUR country. So he happens to be a white south African. You clearly don't know anything about SA, we are a rainbow nation
Load More Replies...He still should of found the colonialist clothes beacuse he is not a black african
Make me fucking sick to my stomach, you bunch of funking oppressors. Your forced your way in and took over!!! took land!!!! We know the history...
I really don't think you do. You are full of hate. Not helpful.
Load More Replies...THIS IS OUR NATIONAL COSTUME. YOU ARE OFFENDING OUR WHOLE COUNTRY BY SAYING THAT.
Load More Replies...Will people ever give this a rest? What about black Africans that live in Europe? Are they appropriating culture by wearing trousers? Are you a black African? Probably not, huh? Just like to complain about stuff that doesn't concern you whatsoever.
Load More Replies...Apparently, I'm now obsessed with headpieces. Damn, there are all delight to look at!
His costume looks very functional. It's not as extravagant as the others, but looks like something he'll get a lot of use from. It's like I'm looking in a book about his country and see this pic.
I would like to see the rest of the weapon, it looks very substantial and impressive,
What does he back look like? His dress looks very functional. Has a farmer ring to it.
Nice Lion costume. I like that they kept the Lion Head simple-ish and not overly flashy/inlaid with decorative horns/jewels/eyelashes so as not to overshadow the human.
