Mister Global Contestants Dress In Their National Costumes And Look Like Video Game Bosses
Recently, Mister Global, a male beauty pageant took place in Thailand. The event was founded in 2014 and since its first edition over 60 countries have sent their representatives to compete for the Mister Global Title. This year, 38 beautiful men decided to test their strengths in the pageant. The final was held in Bangkok on September 26 with the “Inspiring Gentleman” theme. However, this event is not merely a beauty contest, even though one of the main requirements of contestants is to be 'good looking' as the spokesperson of the pageant, Kitti Kamjunsa, told Bored Panda. "The aim of Mister Global is to promote environmental awareness, and we have been promoting this cause ever since we started in 2014. This year, we added a new motto "Inspiring Gentleman" because we believe that the contestants and titleholders should motivate others and be inspirational people. During this year's pageant, we did a fundraising event to support an organization that takes care of elephants in Thailand and it was successful, " Kamjunsa said. When asked what makes Mister Global different from other pageants the spokesperson explained: "Basically every pageant system is identical but what makes Mister Global different from the others is that we are part of the Top 5 Grand Slam Male Pageants. We have good quality contestants with inspiring stories to tell and great support from our national directors from around the world. We have also garnered much support from our many fans that follow us on our website and the official page. Most importantly, we are true on our advocacy of Environmental Awareness and charity cause."
The pageant was won by Korea‘s Jong Woo Kim, who is a 23-year-old police administration student and model. Jong Woo Kim is set to become an inspirational role model for young men all around the world. He will also become a Global Goodwill Ambassador and participate in environmental and charitable projects.
Same as every year, the most attention goes to pageant's national outfits showcase. After all, the representatives get the chance to demonstrate their countries heritage. "For us, we are really surprised that it went viral around the world and we welcome many positive comments. However, the creative costumes segment is nothing new in any pageant system as it has always been a part of it. The winning costume is not about the size or design but the story and culture behind it," Kamjunsa said. The national costume contest was won by Myanmar, it's safe to say that most of the contestants made their homelands' proud by rocking well crafted and intricate costumes. Wow if that does give you heart palpitations I don't know what would. I think I'm having a hot flash now.
Mexico
Whoa i see what you mean! The design on his chest thing looks kind of like the Hyrule logo as well!
Load More Replies...Mexican culture is so precious. I love the ancestral clothing, so full of life - and death, yet festive.
Panama
The dude is cute but the costume reminds me of a Las Vegas drag show or similar 😂
In my country you see this everywhere, everyday. Come before there is no more birds flying around. 🤣
Load More Replies...How many rare and endangered birds were killed to make this costume?
Maybe they weren’t killed, but shed those feathers. At least, that’s what I hope they did...
Load More Replies...Interesting that amid the amazing costume, what strikes one immediately is his smile.
Indonesia
The crown and golden parts are actually made out of a leather-like fabric, so it doesn't weight too much
Load More Replies...More specifically Balinese, rather than Indonesian. Still beautiful and intriguing, but it only represents a very small part of the Indonesian culture.
This happens with a lot of costues in this contest, for not saying most (all?) of them. Don't get bitter for that. :)
Load More Replies...This is fantastic !!! And I know how hard it would be to try to get all parts of Indonesia into one costume without it looking ridiculous.
Haiti
Minimalistic, and without robbing a bird of its feathers - i like it!
So much simpler and less opulent than the others. Still looks sacred af

I think he looks so sweet and gentle but also like he could cut a bit**

Here I am trying to eat my breakfast and I have to keep commenting about HOW GORGEOUS THESE MEN AND THEIR OUTFITS ARE. Darn them anyway. :D
South Africa
Right - for those have who their knickers in a twist saying that it's wrong to have a Boer dressed as a Zulu... he's not. I can see at least seven different cultures represented by what that guy is wearing. It's actually a pretty smart way to incorporate just about everyone who lives in South Africa in one image.
Yes it's the national costume of course he should wear it!
Load More Replies...Ok firstly all you people. The pageants theme was "national ostume of your country" so it doesn't matter what colour your skin or your ethnicity, this is our NATIONAL costume!!!!!!! He is south African wearing our national costume. He may not be of Zulu but he is representing South Africa. We have 11 official languages and we are called the rainbow nation. WHY because we are so diverse in colours. Black, white, Asian, Indian, coloured. God, I cant believe some of the idiotic comments. 2nd we have Many ethnic groups that have different traditional outfits. There will not be a single south African who will judge a south African on wearing our national costume, in a theme representing OUR country. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
He’s representing his country not his 5000 year old DNA migration patterns. Everyone needs to relax.
Was anyone else shocked when they looked to see where this model was from? South Africa? I'm guessing his Ancestry DNA report would show a significant lineage from Scandinavian/European countries. But, I guess when you think about it, what's the difference with this and with an Asian or African American person representing the United States. I've talked myself out of my concern for this photo.
Dude...notto be weird here...I am from South Africa too....I am neon white
Load More Replies...Im proud of this guy representing my country. He is as South African as can be. We are a diverse nation. So any South African can represent SA.
Can't you give this a rest now? I AM A KHOISAN DECENDANT but it seems the world is more racist then they deem South Africa to be. What will you say if i wear my khoisan attire? That i am not Khoisan enough? Oh come on people! This is ludicrous.
Who said that to you? It's all gravy, sis. Keep doing you.
Load More Replies...He is representing his country, this isn’t about representing DNA migration patterns.
Isn't it ironic. If he was wearing some French or German or Portuguese or Dutch or British traditional wear (wherever he decents from way way waaaaay back), everyone would be pointing out how it doesn’t represent South Africa. So the conclusion is: somewhere, someone will be upset. No matter what. Hashtag: the country with 11 official languages and a million different opinions. At least we tend to unite when it comes to soccer and rugby.
This guy was doomed from the start. Wear this and people get mad. Wear Boer clothes and people would get mad, because that is not traditional wear.
Wow guys look at the history of South Africa. He most definitely is South African. https://www.sahistory.org.za/article/race-and-ethnicity-south-africa
He is an invader. IF you KNOW the history of south Africa, then you will know that. White people try to justify that s**t every way they could.

I’m with you. I’m from Asturias . This is more like”cordobés “ I don’t know about you, but this doesn’t represent me at all.
That is always the challenge in Spain, there is too much diversity to try to fit it in one image. The problem is when people act like one region's culture is the only one in Spain.

Apparently, I'm now obsessed with headpieces. Damn, there are all delight to look at!

Load More Replies...Anyone know more about the object he’s holding? It looks very interesting
My best guess is a smoking pipe. Those used to be very popular.
Load More Replies...For the guys who said that they don't reconize this is traditional Vietnamese costume. If you look in the other pictures and you will see that A lot of picture is not their "very first" traditional costume. And, if you are Vietnamese people, you know that there are 54 small nation in Vietnam and there are thousand traditional festivals with thousand traditional costomes in Vietnam that may be you have not seen yet. So don't said that is not Vietnam traditional costomes, just because your don't recozine or never have seen it before in your life. This is a competition and those costome may be redesigned.
I am from Viet nam dude but this is not our clothing, i do not reconize it at all
Looks like old royal clothes to me. I’ve seen similar outfits in the old royal castles, although different colors. It’s áo dài still, just very stylized.
Load More Replies...Agree with many who say that this is meant to be representative not a literal interpretation as it should be creative not just let’s copy a traditional dress. That would have been boring.
Yes. And the best in those photos is that they show how many varieties could have beauty; every nation, every country, and gender has something special and unique... ok, and they're just hot.

I am Czech and love that this cutie is representing our country. Go number 12! XXXX
There are people of Asian descent in many European countries. The fact that people think because he's not white, he's not check is kind of ridiculous.
He's Vietnamese-Czech or Roma-Czech or Cuban-Czech, no doubt. CZ has a large Vietnamese population and Cuban-mix population that immigrated during Communism.
Load More Replies...He may be mixed race...one parent Czech and the other..not. If he was born in the Czech Republic, then he's Czech...doesn't matter if he doesn't look like a white, Eastern European!

I would like to see the rest of the weapon, it looks very substantial and impressive,
I agree, as short as it is, the skirt is obstructing the view of his weapon. . .oh, you meant the sword, didn't you? Lol.
Load More Replies...People keep talking about the fake tattoo sleeve, which I agree is just lame. But honestly, I hadn't even noticed it at all. I mean, photo 1 is just 100% pure distraction from reality. So no, I did not see the fake tattoos on his ARM. I was looking elsewhere, more important places.
He should have went with something more traditional... I'm just not a fan of the these ("mock traditional costumes"). fgqem2fh2k...578064.jpg

Load More Replies...Not all Peruvians are of Incan or Quechuan descent and are proud of their distinctly different cultures. The Huanca, Wari, Aymara, and Una people fought the Inca for hundreds of years before they were conquered and though that was some 600 years ago, they still resent being lumped in with them.
I have to wonder if the 2 shiny plates next to his ears were to blind the opponent when light hits them? Still sends a very powerful message.
Gotta be skilled to not just walk in that outfit but carry it off so elegantly.

Egypt
I'm floored that Egypt, of all places, got this pitiful representation. Historical Egyptian costuming and design is just amazing. What happened, here?
I'm Egyptian and I find this stupid. The last Egyptian to have been seen dressed like that is depicted on a couple thousand years old temple wall.
Exactly the point of the post? You don't see people walking down the street with those headpieces in this post, do you?
Load More Replies...Yes yes yes! I love this. It is very remarkable how well this is put together. Great job! Kudos on the neck piece! Perfect!

As a native of Taiwan... Thank you for differentiating us from China. We are our own country & people!!
Hong Kong
Nice Lion costume. I like that they kept the Lion Head simple-ish and not overly flashy/inlaid with decorative horns/jewels/eyelashes so as not to overshadow the human.
It is a Dragon not a lion...I think by looking at the 'scaly lower 'skirt'
Load More Replies...It's a lion head. Trust me. I'm from Hong Kong and my sister is part of a Lion dance team.
Just to make things clearer. This a dragon dance. The dragons head is on a stick and it's controlled by multiple people and you can see them. A lion dance involves two people for each lion, one for the head and one for the back and they are concealed by the costume. If done properly it really does look and act like an animal. maxresdefa...36fdd9.jpg
I love how there are people who are actually from Hong Kong telling us what the costume is and people still want to argue with them. I'd like to think that they know about their own culture. Don't be rude, you can't one up them.
Yrah it's pretty stupid to argue about it. Even most practitioners of southern Kung Fu styles learn that and most of them nowadays are not from HK or southern China anymore.
Load More Replies...I am from Hong Kong. That is a lion's head, not a dragon's head. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between a lion's head and a dragon's head used in Chinese lion/dragon dances. Some things you'll find on a dragon's head: horns, a much longer snout, and dragon's whiskers/mustache.
Okay whoever says “dragon “ looks like you don’t know how to use Wikipedia . Go google up “Lion Dance “.
It's a lion head. (I have to say, a local news company got a lion confused for a dragon, so I'd forgive if you thought it's a dragon).
It looks like Metro UK also got confused? I suppose it's because the red lion doesn't look like a normal lion, it's more like a mythical creature.
Load More Replies...Sorry to disappoint all those who are saying it's a dragon but this is a lion head. Easily confused. I was when I was younger. Easiest way to tell is a dragon head will always have a pole coming out the bottom and normally very large. For those who question why I know this.... I was part of a lion dance team in the UK and I'm Chinese. Lion dance is always performed with one person in the head the second in the tail. Essentially wear the costume. Dragon dance is performed with many people holding the dragon on a pole.

That is right. And that is the wrong posture for greeting.

Malaysia
Hahahah.. Indon done claim again.. It never ends.. So vr kelakar.. 🙄🙄🙄
Dayak inspired.. This one is a prove that Malaysia and Indonesia have many thing in common.
Not really the traditional Malaysian costume but that of one the ethnic tribes. But it was chosen probably for its elaborateness.
Poland
True, but the costume designer has obviously limited the colours to be closer to the red and white of the flag, making it more elegant too. My Sister-in-law is of Polish descent, and her grandmother made her some beautiful costumes.
Load More Replies...this will be only one with the most negative comments from their own country, you'll see ;)
On this particular post I find the people complaining about the image in Polish more entertaining than the image itself. Also- Polish is interesting to me in how much more frequently you see the letter z. You just don't see it as much in English. My sister married someone with a Polish last name so it starts with Cz. It's kind of a cool language.
Visited Poland. Great people and culture in spite of such a tragic past. Can't wait to go back. Beautiful country
India
:/.... He just looks like an Indian groom on his wedding day, more or less. There were so many historical or mythological directions they could have gone with incredible costume possibilities, looks resembling ancient kings, warriors, gods or statues...this is very tame and a missed opportunity.
It is not satisfactory for India ... Since India is secular and has many traditional costume... Every country represents their best costume... But India it is not a competition to show your sabhyasachi wedding outfits.
The designer completely lost the plot. India is about COLOR. Glorious, jewel-like colors that dazzle the eye. This outfit looks like a dusty mop that was just used to sweep the floor.
People downvoting do not understand. India had hugely diverse cultures and traditions differ North from South and East from West. Even if you pick the style from a particular region, this is a let down.
Load More Replies...I would have loved some more color. Even by typical Wedding look standard this combination looks very drab.
The beautiful colors of India are missing! Beautiful country. Celebrations are amazing! Colors everywhere!
Puerto Rico
Honestly, as a Puerto Rican. I think they did macrame but not with rope like that, and I also feel they got lazy with this. If this costume was made for like a contest. Lord forgive me, but its f*****g terrible. And im kinda annoyed 😅
Carajo. Never knew the Taíno wore any of this. I'm not impressed by what they threw together here.
Load More Replies...This is c**p. We are so much better than this. I too am very annoyed.
I was expecting a barechestes jibaro with a pava and a machete, not this aberration. Our tainos didn't wear feathers. I mean tell me which puertorican bird has blue feathers ti begin with. If you wanted a taino what was better than a almost naked man witha taparabo and a gold medallion like the caciques used. Argh what a wasted opportunity.
This reminds me of when there's a sewing challenge on RPDR and Puerto Rico is the one that can't sew. Also not everything has to have our flag's color in it.
I think I saw that loin cloth on my aunt's wall;) I agree with October Ward, a lot of these look like they came from the costume store
okay, everyone calm down. this is one interpretation, not an official representation.
Well at least it’s not crazy like Cuba’s or ridiculous like the US
I'm positive that our Tainos did not wear this macrame none sense. I have done a lot of reading and research about my indigenous roots throughout the years, and this is not it :-(
Puerto Rican taínos and indigeneous people DID NOT wear feathers as part of their dressing outfits
Sweden
Nah. Maybe not "poor" but like...uh... "Happy Mr. Sweden the Kindergarten Protector"? xD
Load More Replies...This is actually not the correct one. This one is bought at a TOY STORE! This is ridiculous..
This is the awful standardized Swedish national costume, in use since 1983. A truly bad exemple of mindless one-type-for-all think. This particular one, however, is a poorly made cheap as can be dress-up version. Sweden has amazing folk costumes, with very big variations between different parts of the country. Please let me show you just one: http://folkcostume.blogspot.com/2014/03/mens-costume-of-leksand-dalarna-sweden.html
Wait. Wat? This is the REAL one? LOL! FINALLY! Something you do worse than us! (Greets from Finland!)

not a fan of the costume but what a beautiful smile, he looks like a very handsome and kind man.
He should have worn a Viking/Norseman Costume, to compete with the other warriors.
This is an awful example of "let's do something standardized and bland that everybody can use"-think that you sometimes get in Sweden. Sverigedräkten has been the established National Costume since 1983 only (https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sverigedr%C3%A4kten). This is "lagom" used as a cultural sledgehammer. Let me show you just one example of the very many beautiful traditional men's costumes http://folkcostume.blogspot.com/2014/03/mens-costume-of-leksand-dalarna-sweden.html

Huh, HOW?! OK, so I'm a foreigner living in Nigeria, and this is most definitely NOT doing justice to the actual beautiful attire they have here. This looks so lame and untidy. What a let down.
it's like a suit, but with a cape, lovely! Edna Mode may not approve though...
would have been nice if someone had taken an iron to the folds from being in a suitcase...
Nepal
Why does it look like they just took it out the suitcase and put it on? Geez they should carry a travel steamer.
I thought that of several of these costumes. Many of them looked like they weren't pressed.
Load More Replies...I am from Nepal and this is not our traditional wear. It is called Daura Suruwal. The design is similar but the material is not. Nepali Men do not wear Daura suruwal made out of silk or shiny material. It is made up of Dhaka (handmade clothing material). You guys can google 'Dhaka cloth' in google as well. I am shocked and sad to see why this candidate chose to wear this instead of our traditional dress.
Probably used a richer material because of the event.

Load More Replies...I`m Brazilian and I DO NOT RECOGNIZE this costume... It sould be something like this: masc-800x6...f1366e.jpg
Yeah no brazilian wears this as well. This national costume gimmick only works with small countries with only a few cultural group. If we did the same contest for brazilian states we would get a lot of different costumes and if we did the same for indigenous people in Brazil we also woukd get lots of diferente costumes because guess what, huge country many cultures.
Load More Replies...Que brega. É pra ser o que isso? Inspirado na Revolução Farropilha, só que não? No define style, that was very lazy and also ugly.
Since there's a lot of people here that doesn't know nothing of nothing and still wants to give an opinion, I'll tell you: there's no such thing as a Brazil, there's Brazil's, and his costume surely represents the country the same as if were an indigenous or an african one. Brazil is not a monolith and that homogeneous image created by some regimes during the history of the nation having Rio de Janeiro in the center is totally dumb and biased, and was used to destroy local ethos and cultures in the name of positivism. A lot of rebellions started because of that, from Antonio Conselheiro on the Northeast to the separatist war in the South. So please, stop this nonsense and stop hating people from whatever place in Brazil for not having the same cultural background as you. THIS IS BRAZIL! Brazil is the Italy, the Africa, the Portugal, the inumerous indigenous nations and all the other ethos that live within the national cosmos. Don't be ridiculous, the gaúcho culture is Brazil.
And before you guys come argue that his clothes are not 100% faithful to the original - none of the represented by the other nations are, that's why they're adaptations.
Load More Replies...Southern Brazilian states and Northern Brazilian states are about as different as Alabama and Connecticut- maybe even more.
Its from rio grande do sul, its supposed to be a gaucho and the colors are the colors of the state flag. But in all honesty this is so close to the border that it looks more like an Argentinian or Uruguayan gaucho, most people dont wear this type of dress at all.
Cuba
All these customs are gorgeous and then you have mister Cuba... Poor poor mister Cuba
Looks more like a cheap captain America to me
Load More Replies...That is not the National Clothing of Cuba. The national clothes for a man in Cuba is an Embroidered Guayabera made of white linen matching a straight shaped pants, straw hat and red silk handkerchief tied in the neck as a simple scarf. Thats the cuban mens national attire. This photo is a joke and very dishonoring of cuban traditions.

He's that guy, night before the big class project is due, that glued a bunch of popsicle sticks together and called it good.

I don't think he is wearing a national costume, except if they wear flags in Switzerland instead of costumes. This looks like a boxer before a match. Not like it at all.
He's a hybrid class Boxer-Medic! If you aren't a good patient he will knock you out cold!
USA
While superman may be "native" to USA (its "birth" country) it is not "native" in the same way that all the other costumes are. I feel that using an indian (as in native american) would've been a much better choice.
Superman was designed in Canada by a Canadian artist. His creator didn't go to the States until years after the character was done. That is one EXTREMELY tacky costume. You'd think they could at least hide the stitching...and pick a model who could fill it out properly.
Load More Replies...Nonono I hate this. Should have chosen cowboy, early settlers or native american.
I assumed he made it himself. Or maybe his mother did.
Load More Replies...One man... saving the entire world from everything! The more I think about it, the more the dark joke makes sense.
Load More Replies...This must be a joke left till the very end. I thought all the others so fascinating. But I didn't know whether to laugh or get angry at the USA one . Especially since it was a Canadian who wrote the first Super Man. They should have just left USA out, just like they left Canada out.
If Superman was wearing a hat, that would have been Canada.
Load More Replies...I can't stop giggling at this! These were all so normal until..... Superman! Hahaha!!!
They were all so "normal"??? Really? There's nothing "normal" about any of these costumes. They're all fantastic, exaggerated, and way over the top. The Superman one just put perspective on everyone else. These costumes are not accurate representations of national dress - they are ridiculous parodies and the inclusion of Superman (half American/half Canadian) only proves that.
Load More Replies...I was going to poke fun at Mr. Sweden (and still think it's hysterical) but then I scrolled to Mr. USA. Ugh.
Seriously? I dont even know where to start with this ridiculous get up. The dude looks like hes going to comic-con with his home made costume. If this is what Americans think "cultural representation" means then thats pretty sad. At worst he should have picked Captain America. SMH
Well it's not entirely his fault! Everyone else has had hundreds if not thousands of generations behind them of a culture that has been around for thousands of years... And then there's the United States of America. We either have Cowboys or Native Americans and we can't wear Native American clothes because it'd be offensive to the surviving tribes if the person wearing it doesn't have Native American blood! We have cowboys like I said, but that's such a stereotype that I also don't blame anyone who doesn't want to wear it. What else do we have? Revolutionary war? Uh, civil war? Pilgrims?! Honestly, it feels like the Native Costume category is ALWAYS stacked against us because as a society, America grew up too fast but at the same time is still trying to atone for the past. That doesn't mean I'm not getting sick of the Super Hero costume though...
