This Guy Points Out Why Your Salad Tastes Dull And Flavorless And Explains How To Make It Taste Delicious
It would definitely be hard to find a person that would say that salads are their favorite meal and be genuine about it. While usually packed with nutrients and vitamins, salads aren’t exactly the most flavorful meals. So, it’s no wonder that people would often skip on them and choose something delicious, like a burger or a pizza. However, one Twitter user says that salads can be tasty and what most people make and consume are, in fact, a very boring variety of salads. Fear not, though, he’s also provided some tips on how to turn your salads into ‘exciting’.
In a 9-step Twitter thread, Elan Gale offered plenty of ways how one can ditch their boring salad for a tasty treat. From using a variety of greens to seasoning individual ingredients, Gale’s list starts off as an angry rant, but gradually grows into a genuinely helpful list.
Bored Panda has reached out to Elan Gale for additional information, but he has yet to respond.

And stop adding homogenizer. This is just rubbish that is required for off-the-shelf dressings.

Yeah. Fun fact: the way cilantro and coriander taste is genetic. If it tastes like soap, that's actually because you're technically allergic to it. I can't stand the stuff as a result
Load More Replies...Yep. Can't stand the taste. Makes me gag. Not big on cilantro, either. Nor peppers. Sweet ones are ok, but they can be too much sometimes.
Load More Replies...Never felt so damn stupid for just adding dressing to my salad... I need a hug :(
I agree with Corey Smith – what a pompous a** this guy is. I have a serious health issue that has progressed over the years and has affected my appetite and which foods I can or can’t tolerated. Many foods I used to eat now have too much fat, salt, spice, acid, or fiber for me. I recently made a salad of iceberg lettuce with a little extra virgin olive oil, nothing else. I really enjoyed it! Also, avocados DON’T “need CITRUS.” Has this guy ever just cut a perfectly ripe avocado in half and eaten it with a spoon? Guacamole needs lime juice to add flavor AND to prevent the avocado from turning brown, but if an avocado is sliced on top of a salad and eaten immediately, it’s wonderful.
With a name like Rabbit Carrot, makes sense to me 😁

I feel bad for Aunt Messy having not been laid in over a decade.
Load More Replies...Salt ruins the salad, and vinegar, yuk! Lemon juice is ok, or use a little sour cream. I don't like cheese in my salad. Trying different lettuces and nuts, fruit, raddish and other stuff is great.
I love salad. My favourite is one I make with just under medium rare steak cut into strips, red romaine lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, grilled halloumi or Brie, sweet orange peppers and with a red wine and horseradish vinaigrette. Yum!
Who the hell is he; telling people what they should eat or should make themselves like isn't cool. He sounds like an arrogant idiot who mistakingly thinks other people don't do these things already and all his caps lock shouting and exclamation marks look ridiculous. Yet another man who has mistaken his opinion for fact!
I am super boring with my salads but that is the way I like it. I have lettuce, tomato, cucumber, very small amount of cheddar cheese, beetroot and either chicken or boiled egg. No dressing, no seasoning, no herbs or spices etc. And the only lettuce I like is iceberg and cos, the rest I find too bitter. If I am feeling a bit daring I will add snow peas and celery lol.
This guy seriously needs to chill about people's food. This is the first time I've heard anyone say they put pepper on raw cucumbers and tomatoes, ew. Also feta cheese is one of the worst tasting white brine cheeses there is. If your goal is to eat healthy putting things like cheese and dressing (beside basic stuff like olive oil and vinegar) in your salad is what you should not be doing anyway.
Say what you will...you know you're gonna try some of his ideas
I know I won’t be, I don’t really like any of his ideas.
Load More Replies...I sincerely hope that I won't be called an arrogant idiot. Please do use green leafy vegetables. Just like all fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes provide all your body needs to protect itself and function properly without a glitch, the green leafy vegetables are packed with calcium which is easily absorbed (with oil) and does not come together with animal milk protein - Casein (highly concentrated in cheese) which causes allergic and chronic, painful inflammatory reactions in human body, such arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart diseases, and various cancers - especially breast cancer. There is no other animal (mammal) in nature which drinks mother's milk after weaning, not to mention the milk from another species. Only men are capable of such perversity. - And when I hear the word "bacon" I shiver; that's one of the best ways to undermine your body's natural defenses, as all animal product do, the processed meats are the No.1
I think in terms of flavor profiles -- make sure each is represented somehow: Spicy/Cool/Sweet/Sour. To calm raw onions or radishes, slice them, then soak in ice water for at least half an hour. Since ingredients are being eaten raw, BUY ORGANIC -- lettuces, tomatoes, apples, celery, onions all have more flavor.
Or grow your own salad. Shop bought produce is mass-produced, it's flavourless and bland for a reason: Profit.
Furikake. Garlic. Pico de gallo. Wine vinegar. I love blood orange olive oil and raspberry balsamic together. So easy to yummify salads!
He left out THE most important part of any pretentious foodie's salad. The Instagram photo!
He's right. Also: limit the number of stuff you use. If you always put your 20 favourite vegetables in, it's gonna be boring within a few days ... if you stick to a few each time, like in cucumber salad (cucumber, onion, the rest is dressing ... is dill called dill in english? Never use dried!), which is totally fine - the next day, use something different ... and so on...
