Karen Demands Grieving Neighbor Put Up Christmas Decor For Her Kids, He Maliciously Complies
The holiday season typically brings out the good in people, but some individuals find it difficult to shake off their entitled ways even then.
This redditor recently shared a story about an entitled woman demanding that her grieving neighbor decorate his house for Christmas. The latter’s home would typically look like Santa Claus central, but with his wife having passed away, he didn’t feel like decorating this year. That was until Karen told him to, with which he maliciously complied.
Decorating for the holidays can be fun for both those who do it and those who get to marvel at it

Many people all over the world decorate their homes during the festive season
Creating a festive mood by decorating one’s environment can arguably benefit both the person in charge of the garlands and those who get to view and enjoy them. That’s likely one of the reasons quite a few people hang an ornament or two in their homes or go totally crazy with decorations during the festive time of the year.
A 2022 survey found that roughly 86% of consumers worldwide decorate their homes for Christmas, with Ireland and Norway topping the list of countries where they do it the most. The two are followed by the Netherlands, and five other countries fighting for third on the list—Sweden, Poland, Portugal, France, and the UK.
It’s unclear why people in some countries tend to decorate more than in others, as there can be hundreds of different reasons for that. But it’s safe to assume that the rising prices in countries all over the world may have something to do with it.
Take the US, for instance; according to Bankrate’s data, the prices of the majority of holiday staples now are higher than they were before the pandemic, in early 2020. And even though the situation this year isn’t as bad as it was in November of 2022, the numbers on the price tags have not exactly stopped ascending. Despite that, as many as 82% of consumers in the US say they decorate their homes for Christmas, but that is not enough for the country to fall within the top 10 of the list of places where people decorate their homes the most.

Decorated homes make people think well of their neighbors
When it comes to home decorations in the US, people seem to prefer sprucing up the inside of their dwellings rather than focusing on the exterior; surveys show that roughly 70% decorate the inside vs just over 40% who embellish the outside. And while some start hanging their lights and garlands as early as before Halloween, the majority get to work between Thanksgiving and early December.
Needless to say, when the decorations are finally up, the neighborhood can feel like a much cozier place to live in. Not only that, research suggests that decorations can even affect the way people view their neighbors, as those who make their homes look festive are typically considered to be more social and friendlier to those living around them.
Unfortunately for Tim, Karen didn’t seem to be the friendly type of neighbor, as she didn’t really care for his loss and unwillingness to decorate his home this year. All she wanted was for her family to see a festive-looking house, which is exactly what she got, thanks to Tim’s malicious compliance.

so fake that reading it made me cringe so hard i got spinal damage.
Exactly. Of all the things that never happened, this never happened the most.
Load More Replies...Cool story, but it doesn't pass the smell test. However, my response in the situation would have been a lot simpler. "What would Frances want?" To be alive, Karen. She would want to be alive. Now fork directly off, thanks.
I don't understand people who make up stories like this. Is it for internet attention? Do they consider themselves writers?
If this person considers themselves a writer, OOF.
Load More Replies...I asked myself "why is this written like a f*****g fable or fairy tale?" but pretty quickly realized it's because it is a fable.
This seems a fabrication. The writing is a giveaway. Come on, Mr. Panda !
Someone watched that Karen Christmas movie with the 3 ghosts and decided to make up an article after watching it.
Whatever else about the story, I approve simply because it mentioned "Scrooged," the premier Christmas movie (and the one I never fall to watch every year to get me into the holiday spirit). 👍
I was hoping for gory Halloween decorations, but I suppose that works even better so entitled idiot can't even claim it's against her religion 😆 I love the idea of disjointed holidays and I'm sure Francis approves!
That's exactly how I was hoping it would go, too. And Frances' grave. A bit too dark maybe
Load More Replies...Many people are saying fake. Seriously? Do people honestly think people don't die around the holidays? For whatever reason, my family members seem to die between the 1st of November and the end of January. Including Christmas day itself. Am I supposed to feel all festive during that time? We also put flowers on my step-daughters headstone. Even though her death wasn't near the holidays, if you think losing a child isn't traumatic you're delusional.
It's not about the death, it is a stupid story written badly. Real life stories are not this elaborate nor are they written like a bad short story.
Load More Replies...A person that hounds someone about putting up their decorations was the plotline for the movie Christmas With the Kranks.
Even if this were true, why would anyone waste the money and effort to be a stinker? I would've said, you want it decorated, you do it yourself, I'm not here to please you.
Fake, any real jaren would have been laid out after such a comment. Equal rights equal fights.

Not sure why you posted this comment twice, but anyway… How is that news piece connected to this fake story? I don’t see it. Just because someone turns their house into something out of Christmas Vacation every year has nothing to do with this story. Every town or city has houses like that. The only thing that news report has in common with the Reddit story is a decorated house, and that’s it. No husband mourning the loss of his wife, no demanding Karen with kids who will be upset if the house isn’t decorated, no friendly couple next door and worst of all, no Patriotic decorations instead of Christmas decorations. Why you thought the Reddit story is about a house near yours is beyond me.
