Professionals are professionals for a reason. Most things in life are endlessly more complex than they might seem on the surface. If you will forgive the pun, surfaces are a great example, something we hardly even think about until it’s time for some deep cleaning.

The TikTok account of a New Zealand cleaning service went viral when they shared the things they would do and avoid doing based on their professional experience. From the size of drains to the materials used to put together a kitchen, take note for the next time you are designing. So be sure to upvote your favorite tips and comment your thoughts. We got in touch with the company behind the video to learn more.

If you live in a rented house and the cabinets do not reach the ceiling, put paper like newspapers or cut suitable pieces from paper bags and change them from time to time. No more scrubbing grease dust.

Nope, just nope. The little galley kitchen in my mom's apartment that had to be remodeled a few weeks ago got custom-made cabinets in the same size as the originals (no longer available in that size, I mean, they were from 1966!) and still a good foot from the ceiling. Why? Well, to the ceiling cabinets make a small kitchen like that feel closed in, plus, if I'm lucky enough to retire to this apartment, I don't want to have to climb a ladder to reach my cabinets. Both my future spouse and I are not that tall!

If you have ordinary wall cabinets you can build/have build small cabinets on top for the things you hardly ever use.

Bored Panda got in touch with Leaders Cleaning and they were kind enough to answer some of our questions. We wanted to know why they decided to start a TikTok account in the first place. "First, is to give exposure to our business, as regular TikTok users ourselves, we think the social media presence gives some sort of reassurance to the potential client that they are making the right choice."

"Secondly, is to share our experience. Of course, we are not perfect and always learning, however, we have worked through hundreds if not thousands of properties, so we have an idea of what performs better for the easier life in terms of maintaining a home," they shared with Bored Panda.

I have one of these and I don’t find i I have an issue with it…and I’m a pretty lazy housekeeper. No dust or dirt. Just the usual from normal use and I just give it a quick once over when I use it and it’s fine. My hose is not metal like in the picture though. It’s a braided nylon (I think).

Yes! I just re-did my bathroom and my husband wanted to put in a glass sliding door. I would have been all for it if I hadn't had one growing up. The glass gets that mineral build up making it look cloudy and the rails get black gunk built up in it. It's a lot of maintenance. I have no desire to scrub out the rails with a toothbrush every couple months or de-cloud the door. A curtain is so much simpler.

Tilers hate large tile showers, because it's much more difficult to install (each large tile has to be plumbed and levelled individually, the thinset has to be applied to the tile rather than the surface, etc.), but honestly the end result is so much better.

Yes! We got subway tile in our previous home, and never again. The grout was so hard to clean and keep clean. Large tiles only (unless you can afford a cleaner but I think it's mean to make a cleaner clean subway tile, having done it myself many many times!)

I have those large floor to ceiling plastic back pieces that are made from bathrooms in my wetroom. They're great as there is no grout, just sealant that is flush down the few joins. As the pieces are totally flush there are no indents for making cleaning harder and I can use a window cleaning squeegee to quickly clean them down. Best thing I ever chose

No glass as in no shower door? I’ve actually heard people complain about that feature in their showers. That makes for some cold showers not being able to hold the heat in

We also wanted to hear if they had any other tips for the folks at home. "The main mistake is using the wrong tools/products and not reading cleaning product labels. Not only can it be a serious health hazard to mix different cleaning products, but it can also damage the materials irretrievably. It can be bad for natural materials like wood and stone. We have seen it all."

"If it looks clean - it is clean. Visual cleanliness can be deceptive and commonly used areas like benchtops, table handles, toilets, and the vanity need a good detergent or disinfectant to sit and work for a few minutes for its actual cleaning properties. Cleaning can be overwhelming, take it one step at a time and clean a little bit every day rather than all at once. If you have the opportunity, reach out to your local cleaning professionals, in our experience it gives so much relief to our busy clients."

I have a gas stainless steel stovetop. I would never change it for an induction. So easy to clean. You can scrub it with whatever you want. Rinse it, wipe it one more time with a microfiber cloth, and is nice and shiny. If you want that "out of the box" look, Spray it with glass cleaner and wipe it with a paper towel one more time. I don't do that. It's my home, not an appliance store, but if you wish, it's easy.

The first time you start living by yourself, you become acutely aware of just how hard it can be to clean things. You end up with a never-ending war with dust and humidity, windows that get dirty milliseconds after you clean them, and nooks buried so deep it's easier to “forget” to clean them. And the moment you start to think you might be winning, you learn why vacuuming and a mop are not the same as deep cleaning. This process can be so time-intensive and require so much specialist equipment and chemicals that people can and often do simply hire professionals, like “Leaders Cleaning,” who made the videos featured here.

The most common “evil” one might encounter is black mold, which absolutely loves to show up wherever there is but a little too much moisture. As a child, you may have not even realized that those black areas in a less-than-tidy bathroom were mold. Perhaps it’s dirt, mud, or just general grim, you could have thought to yourself.

I absolutely hate my electric cooktop. The heat is harder to regulate, the surface is hard to clean, scorches or boil overs have to be scraped off with a razor blade after the surface finally cools down. Give me a good gas stove.

If you had induction you woudn't have such problems. You can mostly touch the surface right after turning off, and if you are afraid of spills put a dishtowel under the pan, and wash it, if anything gets spilled.

I loved having gas over traditional electric... and then I got an induction stove-top and my life was changed. I will never go back. Boil water in 90 seconds, seer a steak in a cast iron pan in minutes, incredible control over the temperature of the pan. I am just glad the cost has been dropping, easier to get into more homes. And as an added bonus, the most environmentally friendly of the 3 options (traditional electric, gas, induction).

I like my touch controls personally, makes it easier to clean. They are lockable in the 'off' position and so small children and pets can't accidentally switch them on. Though that might not be the reason you prefer physical knobs!

Despite being so ubiquitous, black mold is disproportionately bad for humans. Besides looking gross, there are a number of links between the presence of mold and respiratory issues. While scientists have yet to discover a hard correlation between the two, there does seem to be enough secondary evidence to suggest having random black mold in your corners is bad.

Yeah, the other annoying thing about glass tabletops is trying to figure out which side of the glass the dirt is on.

I do have this thing and it's not as awesome as it might sound. While looking great and being super easy to clean, the stream of water when flushed runs only on the front and back of the bowl. The sides are basically dry after flushing, so you need to clean it manually with a toilet brush anyway.

I worked, for a while, in a UK DIY store in the kitchens and bathrooms dept. There are two types of rimmed bowls, one has a lip round the edge, round which the water is directed and falls pretty randomly round the bowl. These do not clean the bowl very well, but they are cheaper. As the OP states, the rim is open to contamination. The better, more expensive ones have the rim channel enclosed, with a series of holes all the way round, and these distribute the water all the way round and flush much better.

While you can physically scrub away mold, without chemicals, you are unlikely to fully eradicate it. While this can be done at home, it’s one reason why it can be beneficial to contact professionals. Black mold can regrow in as little time as 24 hours, so imagine working all day only to be defeated by some fungus in roughly a day's time.

Appliances all on display require more frequent cleaning.

Easier to place them in the cabinet and do a maintenance clean.

trouble is, the toaster heats the shelf above it and eventually cracks the melamine. The kettle boils water and the steam eventually gets through the tiny cracks in the seams of the melamine and makes the chipboard wood inside swell up from the damp, bursting the shelves. It's a really really stupid idea. Experience has taught me these things.

This is a suggestion for *storing* the appliances, not for *using* them.

Backsplash and cabinets are different. Also, as an owner of matte cabinets and glossy backsplash, the cabinets get gross almost instantly, and we only rarely have to clean the backsplash.

This one I have to argue a little simply for the fact that shutters even when open all the way block out a ton of natural light. I want the option to have all the light during the day and shutters make this impossible because of their frames.

I grew up with these in every bedroom. They are *not* hard to clean. If my mom ever saw a fingerprint/handprint on anything from us kids, we were made to thoroughly clean said surface. We very quickly learned to use the handles, and my brother stopped running his hands up the walls on the staircase. Seriously, for some of these things you would think the people were raised by wolves.
