Here’s the thing about knowledge—if our metaphorical cup is full, if we always want to prove others wrong, and if we get overly defensive whenever a factoid threatens our worldview, then we’ll only ever live in our own private echo chamber.
Sure, it’s comfy and cozy in this homogenous bubble of views, but it doesn’t help us grow and evolve as human beings much. We have to be willing to question everything. And even if we turn out to be right about something… well, there’s a lot to be said for being graceful and diplomatic with our words if we want to teach others, not just create an argument out of thin air.

“The key is to discover things together. If something sounds strange or unlikely, respond with curiosity—ask the person to tell you more, and how they found this information out, and where you should go if you want to delve into it further,” the expert said.
TIL Gillian Lynne did so badly in school teachers thought she had a learning disorder & her mom took her to a doctor. Lynne began dancing to his radio; the doctor said: She’s not disordered, she’s a dancer; put her in dance school. Lynne became a world-renowned dancer & music theater choreographer.
Not everyone learns the way things are taught in schools. Both my kids are very visual learners and learn better when they are actually included/involved in the lesson. Theory work is a real struggle for them. If I could afford it, I would have sent both my kids to a Montessori school.
I have ADHD (not diagnosed until I was 60), and have always found that I learned better if I could "see" things worked out. When I was in school, I would have to take notes, and make doodles of what I perceived as the concept to make sense of it all.

It is! But the story also made me sad for all the kids who have abilities that aren't taught in schools, and who either never discover their talents or get the training they need to excel at what they're good at.

Test taking is a skill in itself actually. That's why I always tried to avoid it whenever possible. I show my knowledge better in a written form that allows more personal freedom, and with less time constraints.

This is the same story as Martha Graham... I don't know if it's real for Lynne and other people that have exactly the same story years after. I'm sorry. I love dance. I also know ADHD is common in dancers. But every dancer is amazing and nobody needs to copy a well known story to be aproved.
Perhaps Martha Graham's story was the copy? I read the story of Gillian Lynne, and she was the real story.

I have a 46-year-old friend who experienced the exact same thing, though at a time when teachers should have known better. He STILL believes they were right for calling him ''stupid'' because he's dyslexic. Currently, he's a physiotherapist, helping all those people who are illiterate about their bodies.
School is not the always the right place for some, most of the lessons made no sense to me at the ages I was supposed to be there, except art and music. I was ready and did all my learning by myself by reading every thing I could when I was in my twenties, same for my children. One size fits all schooling is nonsense for many.
In the late 50s early 60s the teachers thought my younger brother was developmentally delayed. So they wanted to give him an IQ test. 150 IQ. He learned he is dyslexic when he joined the Navy. Didn't have that diagnosis when he went to school.

Sir Richard Branson struggled at school, Johnny Depp left aged 12, (Lord) Alan Sugar left with zero qualifications, Chris Rock dropped out in 10th Grade and Tom (Maverick!) Cruise struggled with dyslexia. There are many more examples, I am certain, but this just goes to prove that while an educational environment can help many to flourish, talent and drive smashes open the doors that are closed to most. The best advice I was ever given; work hard and follow your dream.

I wonder if that same child would receive the same response now. Most children receive a diagnosis very quickly and it is not a 'dancer' it's autism, ADHD, dyslexia and so on.

The Muslims in my town have a parade and celebrate Jesus' birthday (not Christmas) every year. Sorry if this is done everywhere and it's all Muslims I have only ever seen it in the town I live in now. BP seriously needs to reconsider why is voting even necessary? Reading others' comments I'm finding that it does upset people
I mean whenever I think of Ikea I think that their founder was a trashbean of a human, and not a nice person, and that Ikea tax evades like a mf, but most people don't know that about him/them and the consensus worldwide is that they are a company people like and they wanna get cheap stuff from. So it's hard to face that or wanna badmouth ikea. It's like Apple. They are trendy and their marketing is great so even though they practice exploitative business practices, they seem woke etc and they are popular and people want to like them. It sucks but it is what it is.
