The billionaire population not only surged during the pandemic with the record total of super rich reaching an unprecedented 2,755, their fortunes also boomed. The numbers reached highs that were previously deemed impossible to achieve in a single lifetime.

Think of Tesla’s Elon Musk, who grew his fortune from $25bn to more than $150bn. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest person for the 4th year running, worth $177 billion, up $64 billion from a year ago as a result of surging Amazon shares. Today, according to this recent report, billionaires are wealthier than half the planet.

No wonder that so many people see the whole situation as disturbing and unfair, hence this Reddit community that observes, analyzes and discusses the insanely super rich. Welcome to “Greed Incorporated,” the relatively new subreddit created in 2021 that gathered people who just can’t sit and stay silent about greed with no limits. Below we wrapped up some of the most eye-opening and disturbing posts shared here.

Just because I get yelled at at work for it a lot, this is 100% because of greed, but at least with cable tv/satellite services the increases in those are usually do to carriage rate that the major media groups change. Where I work we only price the cable 7% above our costs because these carriage rates are getting so high. We're close to dropping cable altogether and just providing internet because we're eating as much of the cost as we can and still make money off of it. We need to complain and protest for change, but we also need to make sure we know where to point the finger because it isn't always immediately obvious

Contrary to popular believe raising prices when you're making a profit is a normal practice. You ride the hell out of a good wave when it comes along. During this time, you also try to suppress your bottomline. You want the top end to grow sure but never in tandem with your bottomline. Yes, I've worked with some really despicable characters.

What makes you think they're hiring the best? If they were genuinely interested in that then it wouldn't matter whether they knew the candidate's family, or bekinged to the same country club, or were alums of the same college. The idea that these jobs are handed out on merit is preposterous.

The anti-poverty charity Oxfam reported that the world's 10 richest men had their wealth doubled, from $700 billion to $1.5 trillion, during the pandemic, a mindblowing rate equal to $15,000 per second. Nine of the planet’s 10 richest people are Americans.

According to Irit Tamir, the director of Oxfam's private sector development, the wealth gap is nothing new, but its new record heights are nothing economists have seen or imagined before. "The gap between the rich and the poor was increasing even before the pandemic started. But the pandemic supercharged this in a whole host of ways."

If you or anyone else believes that I have some wonderful swamp land I'm want to show you. Those so called Democrats and thier policies are just them telling you what you want to hear. The very Democrats that people believe will change and level the playing field are living in mansions and wealthy neighborhoods and are far removed from thier constituents. Aoc Pelosi and Our wonderful president are wealthy themselves and have come from money they are clueless about what most of us flow Anericans go through on an everyday basis. The programs that you tout are costing us everyday citizens a fortune. Do you think 6.00 a gallon to fill thier cars is going to hurt whether they can pay bills or eat no I don't think so. All Pollitics is corrupt the Republicans are just more upfront about it and Democrats are just better liars.

Tamir argues that in terms of the wealth gap, "We are in an even more outrageous situation than we were last year or the year before." He added in an interview for CBS News that "Wealth is begetting wealth, and it becomes exponential.” The director of Oxfam’s private sector development said that he fears by next year, those numbers will only continue to increase and that gap will only widen. Moreover, in Oxfam's view, rising inequality poses risks to billions of people across the world, who aren't sharing in the same gains in wealth and may be cut off from equal access to health care, vaccines and economic opportunity.

Republicans actually want illegal immigration, it's how they break the upwards drive on everyone's wages. They break your ability to get increased wages by breaking the system with extremely cheap labor. This action works against ALL wages, not just the poor and lower middle class, it affects professionals wages just as much. Stop the hiring of illegals by putting huge fines on any business hiring them. It used to be that way, but Republicans changed that law. Wake up people, vote third party every time!

Without the rich… who would make the long hours for mediocre pay jobs? I envy the rich, but I wouldn't want to be so rich that the masses hated me. We have to have the rich business owners, to have work. The only way to escape the "long hours for mediocre pay jobs" merry-go-round' is to mentally improve ourselves any way we can. It would be more prudent to seize Cuban's and other American Oligarchs assets a redistribute them equally across America by starting Medicare for all, repairing our infrastructure, going after all monopolies and tearing them apart, start cooking our kids meals from scratch, healthy basic food, like my generation and the ones before enjoyed as Americans. Stop giving away our parks to Corporations, stop building stadiums with our kids tax money for billionaire sons of bitches. It's time to kick some 1% ass and to hell with taking names!!

But you don't even need to. If you had a socialised healthcare system everyone else's experience would suggest your government would end up spending less per capita than it ALREADY DOES, no one would be paying for health insurance, which would lift a lot more people out of poverty, and the combined buying power of the healthcare industry as a whole would drive down drug prices - which is why the NHS pays less for drugs than US hospitals do. Add in a reasonable rate of income tax for the rich - without all the loopholes they lobby for - and a reasonable living wage and a whole chunk of the issues would go away.

He is selling generics. Comparing prices of these to the prices of the original drugs is missleading. But he is selling the generics online and cuts the middlemen. So he can make better prices than pharmacies. In Europe that's common practice meanwhile and it's quite handy for the final consumer. But on the other hand it is ruining the pharmacies.

Meanwhile, Abigail Disney, a spokeswoman for higher taxes on the rich and better wages for workers, believes that inequality is widening after years of weakened support for unions and changes in regulations that were meant to protect ordinary Americans. Lawmakers have cut taxes on the richest earners since the 1980s with the idea they would use the extra income to create jobs and economic opportunity, yet research has found that hasn't happened—and the tax cuts only helped the rich.

Disney wrote in the report: "Society was riddled with cracks when we started this pandemic—cracks which have widened into fault lines. There is more than enough money to solve most of the world's problems. It's just being held in the hands of millionaires and billionaires who aren't paying their fair share."

Since people started to believe that feeling you deserve something (i.e. a living wage for a normal amount of work or government support if you need it) is a bad thing to want because you'll be 'entitled' for wanting to be treated like a human being.

The truth is people who can't stop being richer and richer no matter who they hurt/ripp off to get more and more wealth have major mental problems. It's a sickness, they can't control their greed. Like Scrooge McDuck, it's all about the wealth, it doesn't matter to him Donald and his three nephews are living in near poverty, that's their problem, not his.

The poor ARE in debt. Unable to pay all bills will lead a slow or fast descent into deeper and deeper debt that you just can dig yourself out of despite every sacrifice you make. In this day and age it's only the middle class who have the reality of possibly being debt free. Living is bloody expensive. We all need food, shelter, transportation and safety. That s**t costs money. Based on your blase ignorance I'd say you live a cushy life. Debt and poverty are synonymous.

Neither do I! The thought of buying $6,000 Italian Leather shoes, a million-dollar Rolex watch, and a $30,000 Hand Bag while children starve, people live on the streets is APPALLING to me! THANKFULLY everyone has the freedom to do what they want with their OWN MONEY without getting permission or approval from YOU! Otherwise someone might decide that Annie Gabson-Howell @AnnieGabstonH spends too much of HER. OWN. MONEY. on food, tattoos, or gold teeth and determines that YOU are no longer entitled to make decisions for yourself!

Said it before, I'll say it again. Insurance companies are crooks. You pay and pay into them, heaven help you if you miss a payment, but they can deny coverage for the flimsiest of excuses. That these knobheads think they can get away with saying chemotherapy doesn't cause nausea says they need to refund every premium that family has paid them over the years. And I mean going back generations.

My body hasn't received the memo and I've lost 6 pounds so far. I don't have more to spare and when I start throwing up blood from the acid making my esophagus so raw, I hope they'll cover the medicine to fix that....

It's good money where I live. In NYC or LA, it isn't even a living wage. Still, I'd be ecstatic with $600 a week. I've never made that much in my life. But I think the quote refers to the unemployment benefits paid due to Covid, not to an actual wage. He's saying that if a $600 unemployment check is enough to keep someone from working for you, you aren't paying enough.

Unfortunately corporations can "copyright" or trademark a genetically modified plant or organism. They argue that because they put all the time and money into creating this special variety they should get full profit of it. I've heard of them suing farmers who unknowingly grew their plant when it's seeds traveled on the wind from a neighboring field. It's seriously messed up and another reason big corporations are screwing the everyday person over.

Do they have intellectual property rights for that type of potato? I mean, did they develop it through careful hybridisation of different potatoes? Did the farmers in India steal the potatoes from Pepsi, plant them and cultivate them? Did the Indian farmers intend to release their own potato snack product to rival Pepsi? Or is it just a type of potato that can already be found in other places?

    M O'Connell
    Community Member

That particular potato cultivar is intellectual property. Essentially what happened was the farmers violated copyright law by using that intellectual property. This the weird situation with agricultural IP. It's not like software that's been pirated, or electronics that have been cloned, plants have a certain internal drive to exist and reproduce on their own. Those custom genetics aren't going to stay put, and farmers aren't necessarily going to know what they have planted, particularly with a crop that can be replanted from the last harvest by traditional methods.

You can't win at their game if you play by their rules. They never follow the rules. The best way to defeat a more powerful enemy is to never play their game. If you take out a loan, default on it. Stay in the underground economy, barter and trade, never purchase new. Build your own shacks on public land. Whenever you see an opportunity to fudge up the workings of any corporation or any unjust law, throw a rock in the machine. Sit on juries, understand what Jury nullification means and Always rule against any corporation or government entity, no matter what the citizen has done. Let them walk, it really pisses off authority.

And just a question since I can find so many holes in your logic it qualifies as a watering can: previous comments from you imply people need to look for higher paying jobs, that nobody is making them stay in the low paying jobs. These jobs require you to have certain qualifications, that you get in post secondary schools. Most of these places are massively expensive and can't be attended without a lot of money, that most normal kids don't have. So then they're supposed to settle for these low paying jobs? Or are you going to argue with me that education should be free? Arguably a socialist idea, which by your warped mind means COMMIES!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Socialism isn't a dirty word. It does not mean equal shares for all, but it does mean pooling your resources to benefit all. And it works in most places where it's really properly implemented.

Sorry, you are not thinking of socialism. You are talking about social programs, such as universal health care. The problem both capitalism and socialism has is the greed of the people in power. Odds are either would succeed if you were able to stop the greed of those in power.

Not really. It is far less. If you earn $100.000 you might have only maybe $20.000 left as available money after all the fix costs. Then it would be an equivalent of $20. A billionaire has fox costs if maybe 3 million a year so his one million would be 997.000 compared to your $20.

Turquoise Parker should not have to do this. But she has, and all credit due to her. Politicians hang your heads in shame for every single dollar Turquoise raised.

Our government is allowed to fail because the people always find other means. We don't need social systems set up to help the poor with our taxes because the government and the oligarchs know that already overworked citizens are going to make an effort to raise charity money to help the people that the government has left behind. Charity enables corporate greed.

Usually you can look into CANDIDATES not parties in local elections that have strong ties to the working class and supporting them in elections. This is a pretty large generalization and honestly depends on the government under which you live but works well for those places where there are local elections.

To clarify, that's 40 months vs. 72 months. Only slightly more than just half of what was sought! And that homeless man, yeah? He only did it to get food, lodging, and healtcare. And now you are being deliberately ignorant. Several years ago your orange idol installed 3 judges on the Supreme Court, all conservative Republicans, making the ratio 6-3. But wait, there's more! Here we see Mitch McConnell, a republican and here we see Obama with 8 years in office while Republicans controlled the house and senate. McConnell has been quoted many times saying he personally blocked all appointed judges by Obama. A democratic. So nobody democratic were installed as judges during this time. But here we see the next guy, a republican! Suddenly there were many judges installed, all of them conservative Republicans! Because a fellow Republican no longer blocked any nominations. Oh. He also did that to any bill written by a Democrat that came to his desk, those bills never saw the vote on the floor they should have had. And he has the nerve to complain about bipartisanship.

Someone had the nerve to put stickers on all of the pumps at my local gas station which were cutouts of president Biden pointing at the price screen with a word bubble that said "I did that!" Someone went through all the hoops of having those stickers made and putting them in place without even a basic understanding of how the commodities market works.

Right. Because my years in school weren't hard work. The two jobs I worked while going to school weren't hard work. The manual labor I did on my way up the ladder wasn't hard work. You completely miss the point. It's not about working hard for someone else, it's about working hard ON YOURSELF. working hard to build a better life instead of expecting it to fall in your lap. Most people working manual labor jobs don't do ANYTHING to improve their skills, but don't understand why they are stuck in that job. It's the very definition of insanity

The US 'Military-Industrial Complex' is a juggernaut the likes of which no other country can comprehend. Its power is both in Economics (manufacturing, raw materials, fuel/energy) and Politics (defense policy, foreign policy, and pork-barrel policy.) It's always politically suicidal to even hint at cutbacks.

If the US cut it's military budget in half, it would still have the largest budget in the world. If it then used that money to improve the lives of it's citizens through education and healthcare... Well, then I think those people that claim America is the greatest country in the world... could be right.

I use to think that Americans were foolish to blow so much money on their military. Now I'm grateful. But, ALL the countries around the world has a responsibility to fiercely react to any country trying to invade another, so that Americans get to reduce their military budget and instead spend it on health and education.

Believe me, with the exception of the right-wing nutballs, most of us would love to slash that ridiculously bloated budget. On a country by country basis, the US probably spends more to defend our NATO "allies" than they do. Not more than all of them combined, of course, but more than any other individual country. We spend so much, in fact, that, as you point out, we can't afford to take care of our own needy here at home, and what do we get for it? Reviled, ridiculed and despised. Perhaps we should start putting that money to better use. I'm sure the poor, the elderly, the sick and the disabled here in the US would appreciate the help more than our "friends" overseas seem to.

I’m convinced most people don’t know what socialism means. Socialism ain’t Communism. A Capitalist society filled with some socialist policies is always amazing. The only time socialism is bad is when it devolves into Communism. Communism has never worked, but Capitalist societies with plenty of socialist policies rule.

Assume we did redirect 6% to homelessness and solving hunger. I have faith the government would still find a way to screw it up. They would probably tax the people they are supposed to help for getting help. A larger percentage of the homeless have severe mental issues that we don't know how to fix too. So money would not fix homelessness entirely, but it would get better. Then the government would likely criminalize being homeless, which would throw the mental cases in jail with no path to help.

More protection against abusive bosses. Sorry man, you just want to keep people under your thumb. Besides you just advocated a crime. Stuff like this really bothers me and it goes so far over my head in terms of my understanding of the law. If I have a bank account and I'm in the negative or if some guy is in the rears on his child support... the bank will take the money from any other account I'm on to offset the negative balance, or that guy will have a levy on his account placed by the state. I don't understand how companies can set up these dummy corps and it's not like everyone doesn't know they are associated with the J&J, and then just do this. Is there really no lawyer out there that will put the pressure on J&J to say...do you own this business? Who does? Where did the money come from...lets trace it. I mean, there had to be some association with these shell companies and J&J because the lawsuit was filed against it. And that is where my understanding breaks down. How are we not holding the other 'accounts' responsible the same way they would hold me responsible by taking it from another account? UGH!

Elon Musk is South African but I take the point. The wealth gap is ever-widening. It's wrong but I can't think of a solution as long as places like the Cayman Islands have zero taxation. If I had the money, I would be founding shell companies there and avoiding tax. No laws are being broken so what do we do?

Musk became a US citizen in 2007 through naturalization. He was born in South Africa to a Canadian mother, so he has citizenship in three countries, as the US doesn't require that immigrants renounce prior citizenship to become naturalized.

It's true. When I moved into my first flat as a teenager, I took out contents insurance with what I thought was a reputable company; Lloyds of London. I paid my premiums on time every time. Then I was burgled. They took the usual stuff; hi-fi, keyboard/synth, cds, videos (that's how long ago it was!) and a gold watch. The watch had been given to me on my eighteenth birthday by my great aunt. It had belonged to her husband who had died young so it was upsetting that it had been pinched. It was worth £1000 but far more than that sentimentally. I claimed. The loss adjuster came out and filed a report. They offered £400. After battling them for months, I finally got them up to £1000 and I was so fed up of it all that I just accepted. I am sure that's what they were relying on. Just keep grinding me down with insulting offers until I'd had enough and just wanted an end to it all. I got about half of what I claimed for. Insurers do not provide a service. They are a for-profit business and operate as such. That's why I despise them.

Jesus once said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” (Matt. 19:24.)

Wow that's one quote you will never hear Republicans using when they pretend to like MLK.

I used to drive through Morgan County and pass by Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary on my way to visit my family when I still lived in TN and on every MLK Day huge banners were flown and strung across the roads and businesses there, celebrating James Earl Ray Day, it was the most disturbing, disappointing, and disgusting, things I've witnessed. They took great pride in this murderer and brought so much sadness to my heart. I made sure to never stop in that town for anything or to make any purchases there. Red state, Red county.

So you're expected to pay what amounts to a deposit on a house in order to rent now? Before you even move in. Crazy. Good luck if your young and trying to find somewhere to live. I can't imagine how hard that must be, particularly in the city.

They're building a new boat for Bezos in Rotterdam worth 500 million, the export of which will require the deconstruction of a historical bridge because the boat won't fit underneath.
