My name is Angela and I'm a 25-year-old Illustrator living in Bangalore, India. Don't get me wrong. I will choose my curls over straight hair any day. But let's face it: Curly hair is high maintenance.
This little post highlights some of the problems of having curly hair. Know any more? Drop a comment!

Hah! You may think we straight haired girls have it better, but when this happens, we too have our own problems. Different, maybe, but none the less annoying. For example, although it's not windy, we still get spiderweb-like hairs on our face that tickles and goes to our mouth and eyes and such.... u_u
I have frizzy hair and I actually don't mind humidity. It curls even better when it's humid ;) Btw I used to hate my curls too but I decided to focus on their advantages. Just accept your curls, start taking care of them, and they'll return a favour. I recommend it ;)
You have to flat iron & blow dry them out, and train them.....then if you grow then out, you he to train them to curl right again...😂
I'm always trying to grow my bangs out but I alwys end up cutting them and they're too short!
Truer words have not been said ...I hate brushing my hair !
Load More Replies...It took me so long to realise that I should just never brush my hair, until right before I wash it (just to detangle occasionally)
The only time I brush my hair is right before I condition in the shower.
Yep, hurts to pull that brush thru dont it? Never fear, that bleeding will stop soon!
Should try out the Curly Girl method of taking care of curly hair. It's helped me manage my unruly curls and really made them pop!!! One key point, is not to use a brush, especially on dry hair. Just wide tooth comb in the shower with lots of conditioner!!
what if you wet if afterwards and let it dry? Shouldn't that return the shape somewhat?
this is why conditioner finishes first always and forever .i've learned to buy conditioner in bulk
Same here, and my hair can only be considered "wavy for the most part, with some curly and some straight parts". I always get 2 conditioners for 1 shampoo
Load More Replies...I always use a lot of conditioner compared to shampoo, and I have straight hair. I couldn't even imagine how much conditioner curly haired girls use.
I have long, wavy hair, and even after all that conditioner, it's still a tangled mess... ugh.
I have iron-straight hair with zero cuticle, which means it's hyper-absorbent. I go through conditioner exactly the same way.
...and here I thought it was just me. Life is better when you know you're not alone! This couldn't be more perfect.
Ugh it looks so amazing in front of the mirror, and outside it looks like a bird built a nest in my hair 🤦♀️
I CAN RELATE SO MUCH like i have to go to school and hair is such a big problem like i try to put it up in a ponytail it lookslike a goddamn pompom okay
Layers. Lots of layers & loose pony tails will do this right. But it's never perfect, just better lpl
Ifkr ! This is so true ... Especially when it's something important and I wanna look presentable ...
Just like getting a pimple. One can go for months without one but dare to have an important date or appointment? BAM! There it is! AS BIG AS A QUARTER and in the middle of your face! *LOL*
Not like this- but my fairly straight/wavy hair acts nice only when I am home....
I love hats so I still wear them. I just keep the hat on for the entire day, outside and inside.
It's disappointing how accurate this is!! Amazing flow and length under water and then unbelievably tangled when it's dry
Lmao. This is so true. It takes for ever and I end up cutting it to a bob.
Me too! Just did it yet again. No idea why I just don't keep it short. I've tried to "grow it out" too many times to count. Sigh...
Load More Replies...Literally me! I tried to grow out my pixie cut and my curls went down to my shoulders, but decided "f**k it" and went back to the cut 😂
Not every straight haired girl experiences the top. I use my mom (who has wavy hair) as a template for haircuts because we look alike, but her hair DOES grow like the top panel. I, however, would take over a year to get from the left pic to the right, at LEAST. I feel the pain of a bad haircut - I just feel it differently.
Ugh! My dilemma right now!! I cut my hair super short three years ago, it's grown a lot but I miss my hair being in my back!
So I had curly hair that hung to the middle of my back...then I watched a YouTube video on cutting layers. 13 inches later I have a long curly 'fro' that everyone wants to touch...NO!
i cut 25cms off... i now have a curly bob... Life is sooo different
Ait would take about a year to grow straight hair from mid-neck to the shoulder blades, so it's not just "a bit", it takes a while for hair to grow in general.
Sometimes when I spend a long time on my hair, I'll walk backwards to avoid the wind messing it up. My brother doesn't understand so he just stares at me all confused 😛
My hair is half shaved and I always end up with the wind blowing on the side I have hair, I do the same thing
Load More Replies...best description ever, there should be so;e for girls wear hijab ur head looks very huge when u wear it xd
Walked in the remnants of hurricane Jose today in Boston. I don't think there's a word to describe what my hair looked like at the end. Curls + rain + very high wind = rat's nest of the highest calibre!
Curly hair + remnants of hurricane Jose in Boston + long walk = rat's nest of the highest order
I know my approach will be annoying to many, but seriously, as a straight haired woman, I guarantee you we don't have it better. We also get our hair all over our face and look like witches when the wind is done. And if the wind is too strong, combing our knots is very painful indeed and the hairbrush gets full of hair. Wind in straight hair really only looks good on TV.
Amen...I have that glorious in between hair where it's not quite straight but it's not quite curly and I feel like no matter which hair type you have it comes with its own horrific set of problems.
Load More Replies...Oh, no! this one is suuuuuch a problem!! It is SO hard to find a stylist that actually KNOWS how to cut curly hair!!! Once you find them, you must never ever let them go!! I made that mistake once, and now I can't find someone who cuts my hair JUST LIKE I WANT IT.
I cut my own hair now. Being curly it is easier to get away with.
Load More Replies...They have to cut it dry. It's the only way the shape comes out right.
Yup! If I ever had a stylist attempt to cut my hair wet, I'd walk right out - because they clearly don't know what they're doing! My current stylist is great with curls, and always trims it (dry) before even shampooing, styling, or coloring it.
Load More Replies...Hilarious, I just found your page I’m a hairstylist that specializes on curly hair
My hair stylist gets a tip every time and a bonus at Christmas. If she wanted my child, I'd arrange it.
This is too true! That's why I hate hairdressers! And then they always say some c**p like 'There was a lot of breakage'. That fool messed up my graduation! I will never trust a hairdresser unless she or he specializes in curls!!
Curly hair has to be cut dry. Curly hair is cut curl by curl which is how it gets its shape. Look for someone who has studied under Lorraine Massey. Read the book Curly Girl.
I found someone to cut my hair after 17 years of cutting my own hair. I was 15 and in high school when I got the worst haircut ever at a stylist. It's taken me this long to trust someone with my curls!
i've heard so many hollywood hair "experts" say that you have to straighten curly hair then recurl it. not just for special occasions, but for every time that you "want" to wear your hair curly! they have no frickin idea what it's like to live on planet earth.
Hahahaha what kind of person has time to do that??
Load More Replies...theirs I feel like are fake, bc It must take like 5 hours to get it that good (no offense if any of you see this and its real)
She's Indian. They may use "partition" instead of "parting."
Load More Replies...i have a middle partition AND curly hair and this is totally relatable😂
Sooo True.... I cut only 4 centimeters to get rid of my split ends and to avoid losing lenght.... they naturally curled with the cut and lifted of 15 centimeters.....
Load More Replies...There is a way around that but of course only a curly hair specialist would know
Or when you go to the salon and straighten it and after one hour it starts curling in all odd places. Such waste of time!
It's so hard to find good quality hair products for curly hair! Whenever I find something they discontinue it...I should just order in bulk & be done with it.
I have curly hair and I use oils like coconut or argan. They do wonders!
Load More Replies...I have two daughters with curly hair. Trying to find sulfate free shampoo. At JC Penny I ask the hairstylist if they have sulfate free shampoo. She tells me they all are sulfate free. I tell her no I just checked and even the ones for curly hair have sulfate.
I use Organix. I have semi loose curls, but it's the best thing I've used in my price range. It's also cruelty free (not tested on animals), which is big for me.
Honestly, I prefer the "reality" one. A lot more glam! From an aesthetic point of view anyway.
I think breaking hairbrushes or combs by trying to get through your curly hair should definitely be part of that illustrations...
What you shared is so real, I have the same problems, except the stylist problem. I was 8 the last time " they" touched my hair never again. I cut my own hair;) But you forgotabout straight vs curly morning hair and going to bed with slightly wet hair;D
I had very long hair straight till recently I was tired of brushing it and spending so much money in hair products so I cut it to a above shoulder hair cut, now it is ridiculously curly YAY :I
I feel like you just told my story, I hardly ever wear my hair down for curly hair reasons. But when I do someone always says "I wish my hair was that curly." And I just look at them like, really, really? Do you think this s**t is a game?
I've been learning how to deal with my curly hair for 70 years. I still haven't perfected my technique. There's always the hope that the NEXT product with be the one. My hair is white now and curly as ever.
I can relate to each one of them ! I totally enjoyed this post ! But I also love having my curls !
The bangs one is so true!! I can relate personally! 😂😂 all of them are true, but this one hit the nail on the head xD loving these!
I can't relate for the curly hair thing but I still looooove your comics
