This is a really interesting theory and it explains why the Karen behaviour is isolated mostly to middle-aged or older white women. Speaking as an african who has been at the brunt of this treatment often.

My mother was one of these women. After my dad left she could never understand why she didn't get the privileged life she was promised and she took it out on me. This wonderful article has allowed me to understand her struggle in a way I never did before. Thank you

We need to raise our daughters to aim higher and our sons to care more.
Women who give up their financial independence, in this day and age, need to get their heads examined. (i.e. their minds. I just like that old phrase) There is something slightly insane about making yourself so vulnerable in an age and in a society where you drown when you can't support yourself (and your children). You're not a sahm, you're a dependant who provides unpaid labour. This conecpt worked until a few decades ago, but it no longer does (at least not in the western world). You must keep working!!!
I hate the Karen trope. I wish it would go away forever. Everyone is an individual, everyone has their own backstory, their own bad days, their own politics. And no one should ever be judged immediately by their gender or appearance.

This author is not saying all Karens are young, pretty, ultra conservative women. There are many routes to being a jerk. She describing one of the distressing ways to get there and trying to warn some women of the pitfalls who are on the beginning of this singular path.

sure, but liberals are considered, here in africa, to be conservative. They support "equal rights" and "voting rights" but only so long as it does not affect or impact on their lifestyle at all. They stand for equality as far as it allows them to still have a domestic servant and gardener. Once they can't afford that, miraculously they become anti the minimum wage legislation. Liberals are not really left-wing, they are centrist. They are also patronising as all hell. We prefer social democrats like Bernie and AOC.

Let's see. There is the 'trad-values' conservative that yearns for the Golden age of 1XXX with its social order of white men on top, everyone else is inferior. (This does include some religious conservatives.) The religious conservative come in two flavors, those adhering to the Prosperity Gospel (the more money you have the more Jesus loves you and rewards you with money) and the 'only MY religion is the TRUE religion' group. There are other groups where 'we are superior' can be found of course, but including them can be confusing since they can spread across political and social boundaries. Liberals and atheists , both separately and combined, have had a couple of spectacular (viewed from the inside) blow ups in the past decade over similar issues.

Though the origin story she describes very closely fits people I know who could be described as "Karens" They were raised in an environment which endowed them with the belief that they are absolutely superior to other groups, and when treated reasonably by "lesser" people wind up with their panties in a bunch over how unfair it is for them to have to be reasonable. That's an ad hominem argument, not a refutation. She is giving a theory as to how Karens are created. It's not a bad theory. It deals with the idea of specialness and entitlement. Do you claim that white women do not think they are entitled to be treated as special? If so, how else do you explain the Karen behaviour? The "I demand to speak to the manager"? The trope of "the customer is always right" is bollocks. You can't just say something like "the customer is always right" and expect the entire planet to accept that as gospel. In a point of fact, it is false. Most customers do not know what they want. That's how Apple gets away with doing whatever they want - removing CD drives, removing earphone jacks, etc., - and people still buy. Because people DON'T know what they want, usually, until you tell them. That's precisley also how Trump got into power. He understood this indecisiveness and capitalised on it.
