I have had two brothers die, both of which were not sudden so we were able to say what we wanted before they passed. My older brother had been on palliative care for two weeks, with life support on, but still conscious. On the day we were having his life support turned off, we decorated the room with lights and pictures and lots of people came to say goodbye. We sang some of his favourite songs and our minister told the story 'water bugs and dragonflies' about going from one life state to another. I told him I loved him and some of the good memories I had of him. My youngest brother was in a similar situation, but he was at home and his breathing was deteriorating so we knew he would pass soon. I spent some time with him and again told him how much I loved him.
