This is a post where all pandas can post a "is it just me, or..." and other pandas will reply. I thought it would be nice, so people can receive confirmation that it isn't just them that does whatever they do or reacts the way they do. It should be fun!

Is it just me, or does anyone else spend their entire childhood wishing they were an adult but when they reach adulthood, realize that they want to be a child again? I feel like I rushed through childhood to be independent but now I am realizing that I really want to be five again and my worst worry be where is my purple crayon.

I wish I could re-live my childhood in alternate reality where my mom did not marry my alcoholic, abusive father only because she was pregnant with me and felt like she has no choice.

Is it just me or do adults romanticize their teenage years? I've been stressed to death for the past two years and adults tell me I have no clue what it's like to feel stress (I'm on the older end of the teen spectrum, and I have more on my plate with school than I physically have time for -- I've done the math). I get that there's downsides to adulthood, but it's not at all as if my life has been carefree for a while.

It's not just you, but it is perspective. Few people would sign up to redo too much of their teen years, especially high school, but there's something about the glow of youth that is wonderful. I am not minimizing your reality, but youth is a thing that money can't buy. It's a time that needs to be misspent, at least a little. A time to test your wings, laugh too loud, burn the candle at both ends, and make some harmless unwise decisions. In other words, be bold, have fun, and enjoy yourself. For most of us, life doesn't get easier. The burdens become heavier, and even money can't necessarily guarantee happiness. Actively look for a way to lessen your stress, talk to someone, meditate, take up a hobby, or do whatever it is you need. to have more balance. Make time for yourself and your mental health. You are worth it.

The issue is I feel like there's more pressure on us; in order to succeed we're pressured to go to college, which requires either immense debt that will never leave, or to work intensely hard in school prior to college in order to get good scholarships. My decisions now will impact the rest of my life and that has been the case for the past five years. We're dealing with school shootings (and I really mean my school specifically, not just in general), the need for perfection and overachievement in every aspect of our lives, and the knowledge that the market sucks so badly that most of us will never own houses. Maybe it's just because of my environment specifically but I've been fairly self sufficient since 6th grade, just not paying the bills and such (though I've paid taxes for the last four years) and I've never had no responsibilities or even a facsimile of a lack thereof.

I enjoy being an adult much, much more, so it’s not just you. I found my teenage years very tedious - I grew up in a smallish place that was very isolated so there wasn’t much to do and travelling was difficult because we were so far from everything. I now live in a massive city in another country and I love it. In general, I think life does get better after high school.

Ah, the time of life where it is most important what your peers think of you and you will likely become self conscious. Likely someone you know will commit suicide, while adults tell you this is the best time of your life. You may be berrated for asserting any form of independence while you are expected to make decisions that will affect your eintire adult life. I like being an adult because at least my agency matches my responsibilities.

When you have $3237 in monthly bills and bring home $2200 after taxes every month and realize you have to find a partner with their s**t together to split the cost of living with while it's trendy to be "single hoeing up your best life" or in casual relationships where you have no actual PARTNER so you'll have to live with your parents forever, work three jobs and have no life or grow up and settle down with a partner who is dependable then you stress yourself half to death when you try to buck the system when inflation cockblocks you from any other path than a reliable monogamous partner in order to be "self sufficient" when self sufficiency is no longer an option for the middle class....that s**t is stressful. College is a breeze once you realize you never have to actually pay off your student loans.

Is it just me, or: the whole culture where people treat pets like their first born child weird?? Generally I used to be able to count on not running into barely restrained dogs in a dang department store. Service animals ofc I don't have a problem with, but emotional support animals start getting into iffy territory sin ce there's barely any regulation, then people just... stopped caring. Dude's ESA dog ate my food in a school cafeteria, people take their pets into department stores and just let them do what they want. We had livestock guard dogs for a while and people got mad they lived outside. JFC, they had shelter, food, water, dry beds, they LIVED OUTSIDE TO GUARD OUR LIVESTOCK.

Yes, I have friends that get completely stupid about their dog. It's untrained, rude, jumps on anyone entering their home and constantly call it their baby. I'm disabled and when their dog almost flattens me it's not cool when they think their mutt is adorable! I don't go into their home anymore.

My dogs are my kids. I do not take them with me everywhere. I recognize that to the rest of the universe they are dogs. I hate seeing untrained dogs in stores….some stores in my area have signs stating “Licensed service animals and well trained dogs welcome. Others may be asked to leave with their handlers”. I do take my dogs on vacation with me…..I always do extensive research to find all the dog friendly places where I’m going. My dogs are small and I keep them in an actual dog stroller. Some stores don’t have signage posted as to whether dogs are allowed or not. I’ve been asked to leave before and I immediately smile, wave and go.

Is it just me or is the world terrifying? I'm 15 right now, and I am so scared of my inevitable future. Taxes, voting, bills, living alone, getting a job. I decided 3 years ago that I'm never having/getting kids, but as a woman I feel so pressured. I know I'm not going to give into that though. I ask myself if I wanna get married, but relationships are weird, I've learned that. i hate the idea of growing up, because everything is temporary. I have no idea what or who to trust to stay in my life. I've had many, many panic attacks about this. I'm so scared. I can barely manage high school. I'm in honors and AP classes, but I'm barely crawling by. But I'm pressured into taking these classes year after year. I dont know how I'm passing. I have zero motivation for anything. I've been diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety, and am awaiting another diagnosis for a similar issue. How do people do it? I'm so scared.

There's no secret, and we're all just as scared as you. It could all turn to c**p in an instant. We all have to deal with each day as they come, and whenever we fall we do as much as we can to pick ourselves back up. Sadly, it overwhelms some of us to the point where they become homeless, or worse, and there are those few who have excess wealth who will never really need to worry, but the majority of us keep fighting, hoping for a better future.

Have a good support network. That doesn't necessarily means family, but people you trust and truly care about you. Adulting is hard and _everyone_ is winging it, no one has their s**t together even it appears so! If you've been prescribed meds or therapy, make sure to take it, if it's not helping let them know. Do not, ever, self medicate, it can go very wrong very quickly!

It's extra hard with ADHD, so I see why it seems like too much to handle. On the bright side, it's so great you're realizing those things at such a young age! Lots of people just rush into things (take the next best job, relationship, college course) and then end up unhappy. You're thinking ahead, and you know at least what you DON'T want, and you know your limits! That's a good thing!!

As someone with ADHD and anxiety issues, try to take things a day at a time. Most of this adulting stuff comes at you one thing at a time and you can automate a lot of it. Taxes are not something you need to think about until you have a job and they only take an hour to do because of online tax services like Turbo Tax. You can register to vote on your 18th birthday or any day after that. You can learn to live alone later by helping with chores now (laundry and cooking and maybe some basic house maintenance are the important bits), or youtube has tons of good adulting videos. Lots of (possibly a majority of) guys don't want kids so tell people who are pressuring you about that "Okay Boomer". You know you best so your opinion is the only one that matters. School-wise, if you want to go to college, and if you know what you want to major in, only take AP courses for that path. It is not worth burning yourself out on AP chemistry if you don't want to major in a science.

1st of all, it's gonna be okay. 2nd don't let it overwhelm you. I'm gonna make a list of things I wish I'd done, or had been told/taught/known. 3.) Stay away from drugs. Once you start it's hard to stop. 4.) Every week/month paycheck, put away $20-50 for your old age. Some day, before you know it, you'll be older than you ever thought you'd be. Don't end up like me. 60yrs with absolutely nothing. I own nothing and have no money saved. I live paycheck to paycheck and that's only if I'm employed. But I've got college AA degrees in Business, Management, & Accounting. 5.) Always do your best. 6.) Don't be mean. Cuz mean people suck & Karma will bite you on the A*s when you're least expecting. There's more things I could say but...listen to your gut.

Hang in there. My sister is 23 and has only found an apartment on her own last year, and only finished her cert 3 (in screen and media) last year as well. She has worked out in that time how to budget (though she struggles to stick to it at times), cook enough meals for herself that are nutritious, and although she already knew how to wash her clothes and do dishes, she hadn't had to clean a bathroom before. I worked with her (because she needed help with ADHD and anxiety) on setting goals for the year and 5 years, where she listed the course she wanted to do, the work she wanted to be able to move into from that and things like getting her licence. One thing that I am grateful for, is that taxes in Australia, especially if you receive a government payment, are basically pre-filled for you now, you just read through and add anything they have missed, so only take about 10minutes. Just take things one day at a time, but if there are things you want to achieve, set those goals too.

Knowing that you're worthy of love and happiness is half of the equation. The other half is hard work, luck and choosing your friends right. +1: life is simple. It isn't easy, but simple. - Sh*t happens. - Work hard on your dreams and you may achieve them.

Just know that all the worst case scenarios are not possible to happen to a single person. Try to study all the adults around you to see that they did not all chose the secret right answer their whole lives, and recognize there is some room for error even as an adult. You do not need to decide if you will get married until you are with a partner you are considering marrying (I have seen too many people get married because they were "ready" rather than because they had a relationship worth making permanent). In my experience AD(H)D can make identifying worst case scenerios compulsory, so maybe you should consider engineering, marketing, emergency services... in other words you are not broken and may have an advantage in some fields.

I like those extremely rare delicate moments when I'm alone in the house and can listen to some really loud music from my teen years and sing along. I'm a quite normal dad with small kids, but if anyone saw me growling along with some old Slayer tracks, not sure what they'd think :)

Just teach your kids to growl and you can do a sing-along 😁 no, but seriously.... I'm a mother of 3 small kids and they do not mind my music (currently it's Bloodbath) and eventually they will start to try to sing along. Lol. Also, I strongly believe that it's healthy to expose kids of all ages to all kinds of music. Including the most noisy metal music you can find. Do not hide your inner metalhead away. Let your kids see that side of you as well as the "normal dad"-side. 😊

I Hate Singing In Front Of Others And Hate My Voice. I Sound Like A 6 Year Old. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙄🙄 So Whenever I Am Alone And The Music Is Loud Enough, Then Maybe, I'll Sing. Plus I Can Sing A Bit Now, Near My Boyfriend Like If I'm In The Shower Or Something!! But Still No Dancing.... Also, My Fog Has Always Been My Sole Audience, And He Judges Me With His Eyes Sometimes Or He Joins 😂 😂 💕 💕

Is it just me or does anyone else have a teenage boy who thinks the greatest thing in the world is to annoy his mother until she sighs deeply. It's like, Dude, you're a teen, if I hear baby shark one more time you will learn why locker room towels are a thing to be feared.

Haha well.... there are songs equally annoying from your youth that you could play on repeat for him. And if he asks you to stop you just tell him all the fond memories you have with said annoying song. Lol. And do not stop playing your annoying song. Perhaps just embrace it all and have an "annoying songs"-battle? Lol.

Is it just me, or is “my body, my choice” a darn good argument for literally everything that you want to do with your life that doesn’t hurt anyone else, but everyone says you shouldn’t. Let me make my own mistakes every now and then. Because guess what? I know myself way better than you do, so how can you know what’s best for me better than I do? At least if I screw myself over, I have no one to blame but me. If you screw me over when I knew better, guess who I’m going to be mad at?

I agree, but I do think that there are some limitations to this. Your body your choice, but we shouldn't let you harm yourself (like cutting) past that, just enforcing that this is bad for you makes makes people want to try it.

I meant more like, whether or not you want to get married, have kids, be an artist instead of a doctor, etc. I’m not saying we should let people cut themselves or deal with addiction by themselves. Sorry that wasn’t clear.

What is your attitude in dealing with the repercussions of your choices if any of them put you in a position that makes you dependent on someone else? Will you be so cavalier and demand they take care of you?

    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

I don’t think so. I’m really bad at asking for help. I always feel guilty for being the reason that they are going out of their way to help me. Now, I’ve never made such a huge mistake that my life is at risk or anything, so I don’t know for sure how I would act in that situation, but I tend to deal with the problems I’ve created for myself by myself. Let me know if that didn’t answer your question.

Disagree. There are situations where you don't know how bad it will turn out. Let's take addiction for example: it's your body, your life, you're not hurting anyone else in the process (hopefully), but ffs it is obligatory to stop it. Tons of other examples come to mind

My youngest wanted a Barbie ‘Cutie Reveal’ doll for Christmas. It’s basically a Barbie in an animal costume. So it’s a furry? (A person who likes to dress like an animal) That’s certainly…odd. Right? Furries have been a thing for quite a while, right? I mentioned that to my husband and I guess he thought I was just overthinking. But then today my little one asked me what I thought of their Barbie…and they said “ahem, furry” in a tiny voice. We had a good laugh and I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Barbies are furries now.

So you know how people who like to wear Star Trek costumes are called 'Trekkies'? 'Furries' are people who like to wear animal costumes. Not just for halloween, but maybe in their spare time or at a meeting or convention. It doesn't have to be s*xual in nature. It's just people expressing themselves, or playing out a fantasy. I hope I helped you understand. No, I'm not a furry. I just know a bunch of stuff.

It's not just you (hi Elon, you wanker). However, the logistics and costs of moving a significant portion of the global population off-world is currently way more complicated and expensive than we can manage. What we need to do is fix this planet first (hi Greta), then we can look at long-term survival on the moon, or Mars.

It is impossible to fix or slow the depletion of natural resources without severe population control. The population has doubled in 40 years from 4 billion to almost 8billion. That means there will be 16 billion on this planet in 20 years since statistically humans have 2.3 children every generation. Earth can not sustain a population of that size and in the very near future the planet will mass sterilize the population. They've already begun it actually.

When you can figure out how to move millions of gallons of water off of this planet without completely destroying Earths ozone layer and atmosphere then we will be a multiplanetary species. Until then they can not risk the annihilation of the entire planet for sightseeing vacations off world by the ultra wealthy.
