Thinking of all the bands I've seen at Maxwell's - Hoboken, VFW halls, Church basements, colleges, etc.
What's the best show or the best band you've seen in a hole-in-the-wall?

Anne Clark in a run-down former café that still had its original Art Nouveau decor. Amazing atmosphere!
The Bomboras opening for an all female Man Or Astroman Gamma Clone Project show at Maxwell's in Hoboken N.J. , usa.
... There were instruments on fire, beach balls, go-go, in a place possibly the size of your apartment , maybe late 90's.
I saw The Ramones in 1995 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie NY. Then I saw DHS with The Casualties in Manchester NH in 1996. Two best shows of my life.
awesome, glad to have seen the Ramones too. the smell of sweaty leather jackets.
It was on the eve of my 18th birthday, it was a school night, and my dad took us! He stood outside the entire time- a bouncer told him he could go inside but he said it was too loud. My bff and I stupidly positioned ourselves right by the speakers and were totally deaf the next day. Now I wear earplugs.
Load More Replies...I forgot to write that that Casualties show was in a pizza parlor, but I can't even remember it's name.
Xeno & Oaklander playing the Neon Marshmallow after party in the back of Public Assembly, Brooklyn, 2011. Well, I guess the whole event.. Loren Connors sitting on a chair in middle of floor on a Sunday afternoon in a dark bar with 20 folks just hanging around. Grouper, Tim Hecker, Rhys Chatham, etc etc
NoN in an ex church on lower east side informing the audience that Anton Lavey had died. There was an audible gasp from the crowd. He said "People used to say 'Boyd, your music is too harsh', Anton told me ' Boyd, your music is not harsh enough'". Then proceeded to , what seemed to be , blow several whistles (dog whistle? coach's?) into an octaved mic looping at full volume.. it eventually dropped almost all to a knee. Fun.
