Racism. Seriously there is one race, the human race. So skin colour differs, so what? Hair colour, eye colour etc differ. So what?
When people left Africa their skin got lighter to compensate for the lack of sunlight. Sapiens then mated with Neanderthal and Denisovan. It's interesting as hell. Native Americans are genetically related to East Asians
Neanderthal and denisovan also originated in Africa - cro magnon was simply a later wave of migration. All three have immediate common ancestor

Please don't downvote but biologically speaking a race is a group of a species with visually different traits. So skin color, eye color, hair color and different hair types means we are different races just like with different dog races/breeds. I agree it should make no difference at all but just saying it is a biological definition.

I wish that science and technology would take precedence over politics. I wish people would take scientific facts more seriously instead of spreading misinformation. I wish intelligence and critical thinking weren’t seen as immoral.
Look where sports are in the priorities, especially in the US, in comparison to arts, music and similar - I don't wanna blame sports or athletes for enjoying and engaging, just the immense ressources thrown at it, and the crippling deprivement of other subjects may reflects something more than good lobbying. I have known people that positively and proudly admitted to look down on people they consider smarter than them, because they "could kick their a*s". In germany, this was.
Depends, some things are indeed seen as immoral to mention.
Load More Replies...Problem is facts are like the trees in a forest. It takes a lot of them to make up something that matters and people can have their favorite facts or type of tree while disregarding others. Also like forests, facts aren't black and white most of the time. The atomic structure of U-235 has no moral code. How we use it does.
Critical thinking is essential. But don't think of science as facts because constantly questioning and challenging science is what science is about. There is actually very little that has actually been established beyond doubt to be true. Scientific dogma is dangerous, especially when promoted by so-called authorities who have some vested interest, whether it's financial, political or their own reputation.
There is scientifically no consistent description of life - cell processes in sperm, egg, blasoplast, and fully grown human are identical, and are not interrupted between generation. Not sure what you Mean by the other two, scientifically at least. What point are you trying to make?
Load More Replies...Organized religion. It holds too much sway over too many people.
Religion should not be supported by tax money. People can donate their own money if they want but they should not be able to donate other peoples money to their church. The trick used is called tax deductions. You donate to your church, then you deduct the donation from taxes, now other people have been forced to pay to your church. Listen, the government giving directly say $1000 to your church, or the government lowering your taxes by $1000 and then you give those $1000 to your church is the same thing -- except going over taxes we can pretend there's a separation between state and religion and pretend everybody is free to support a religion or not. It's a real money machine.
Agreed, I also think only non secular non religious ideologies should govern a society. Religious beliefs should not inform our laws.
Load More Replies...Any group, including religion, can be twisted by those who wish power. People flock to groups for safety and ideas that make the world easier to explain. Millions of people wake up every day and follow the tenets of Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and other faiths that teach you to love your neighbors and they do good deeds because of it. A much smaller number wakes up and twists those ideas to their complete opposite soley to have power over others. Those in the church who protect pedophile priests should be treated like the criminals they are. However, the 80 year old grandma just trying to feed some kids in a soup kitchen because Jesus said to feed the hungry should not pay for their crimes as well.
I have another take on organized religion. Look at Christianity. If you read just the new testament, say the gospel of Matthew, I think people will hardly have anything bad to say about Jesus. But take the Bible as a whole and I'd say it's not correct to think this religion is good and "evil" people has twisted it. Christianity is at its core immoral, anti scientific, undemocratic and sexist. Looking at history, societies built on Christian teachings reflect this, they are similar to Taliban. They are theocratic at core, where moral, laws and even science are derived from "holy scriptures". There's a web site where you can see how murder, rape, sexism, and slavery is not "bad people" twisting a "good teaching" but its present in the holy scriptures themselves https://www.evilbible.com. Over time and especially since enlightenment, Christianity has become more humanistic, but it's still fighting science and progress and tries to bring back a theocratic society built on the Bible.

Then, something happens -church burns down or pastor gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar as it were. Then these people have no clue what to do. They have put so much into it now they're lost.
Religions, especially christian, splinter up what they want to believe and leave out what they don't. Look at all the protestant religions. They left complete sections out, in particular the ones written by women, that are part of the original works of the Gnostic bible. Nobody expects the spanish inquisition!
The constant sexualization of women and girls must end. End rape and punish rapists. Parents, teach your daughters that they are more than house cleaners and chattels to sell for a bride price, and by all means enroll them in self-defense classes as early as possible. Teach your sons that girls and women are full human beings with the same rights, hopes, abilities and ambitions as males. Men, stop leering, catcalling and making sexual jokes about women; rebuke your male associates for doing the same, and for heaven's sake, keep your hands to yourself. Create a business culture where women's ideas and abilities are taken as seriously as men's are, and where women are paid equally for equal work.
And stop saying that s**t about “Well with that outfit you were asking for it.” Their damn outfit has nothing to do with people being insane f*****s

All the catcalling, sexualizing, groping, and men wonder why women are distant, mistrustful, slow to warm up? It's all cumulative, and I speak as someone who has had very little harassment and has not been raped. It's still all cumulative. And stop all the projection. MEN are scared to die alone; women are, on the whole, not scared of that. Face your fears, do the deep work, stop projecting onto us.
Our country directly bans unequal pay. If it is discovered you are liable for a fine or imprisonment.
Sexualization is part of human nature and how we pick a mate. Women sexualize themselves with make up and certain clothes and men do the same. They also dress a certain way, use certain scents, grow beards or whatever to look appealing. That doesn't mean people should abuse it and we should all know social boundaries.
BUT, don’t put the responsibility on women with self-defense/martial art training.

I have to agree. I know teenage girls who say that like they're.... not quit PROUD of it, just like it's the only thing interesting about them, or like they don't care anyway.
I have ADHD, one that is commonly used this way--"OMG, I'm so ADD", for example. When talking about it I've also heard "Oh, everyone's a little ADD", like they're trying to reassure me somehow. If people believe that, they can't understand that it's a legitimate disability and are more likely to judge or discriminate against those of us who actually have ADHD because they don't understand how it impacts every piece of our lives.
One of the biggest reasons that kept me from seeking out ADHD meds is me not wanting to be perceived as someone just trying to get recreational drugs; the stigma attached to Adderall/etc. It was difficult to even broach the subject with my doctor, because I didn't want to be viewed in that light. I even get self-conscious when I pick up my prescription, thinking the pharmacist is probably judging me. Without that stigma, I wouldn't have waited 25+ years to get back on meds.

Suicidal ideation is definitely a thing, but there are a lot of reasons people do our don't harm themselves. That said, the word depressed and the illness that is depression don't necessarily relate to each other. A normally happy person can be depressed, and have situational depression. That person also needs help and support. When my college roommate lost his father to cancer, he was depressed. He had situational depression. He is not and was not mentally ill. But he definitely needed the support of his friends and family. It's okay for someone who isn't mentally ill to also be depressed, please don't dismiss what people are feeling because they don't carry a label.
I'm forever teaching my students to not let their mental health become their defining characteristic. I think tipping culture should go away as well. But even if minimum wage was increased to $20 an hour (it should be), I have many family and friends in the bar/restaurant industry who say they would lose money-they make a ton of tips
But it doesn't remove tipping? I'm in the UK, servers are paid £9.50/h as an adult at the minute. I still tip for good service, and when I worked the other side, made plenty of tips.

I think cancel culture is a bit of a yapping dog without a bite. Very few people get cancelled, and those that have did some really awful things. The guys who got cancelled for trivial stuff have all regained their careers. Hell, even Mel Gibson is making movies again. Yes, Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein have been proper cancelled, but they were both rapists. My bigger concern are the people banning books and words through the legal code.
Cancel culture isn't confined only to those who are on some form of a world stage though. Cancel culture can also happen where you have no knowledge of it happening.

These days, people can't even have a discussion with someone they disagree with, which is ridiculous. If we can't even communicate, what hope do we have of ever finding common ground? If you believe in your personal ideology/morality, then why would you try to silence/cancel someone instead of debating them? Generally speaking, you don't change people's minds by ignoring them or locking them away, you need to actually engage with them.

Governmental interference with what a woman does with her body. I get it. I get the whole "right to life" bit. But if you're looking to reduce the number of terminated pregnancies, restricting (or eliminating) access is not the answer, especially when the rules are being made by old men who lack a sense of decency (not to mention a basic knowledge of biology!) Other than making sure it's done safely and hygienically, the government shouldn't be involved at all. This decision is between you and your doctor. There are better ways to "save babies".
The absolutely mind boggling aspect of this government interference is that it originates with the group that is absolutely adamant that they are against big government meddling with state and personal affairs...the conservatives.
Representative Rob Harris (Republican) of South Carolina is pushing a bill that would make abortion punishable by DEATH. The bill removes ALL exceptions including rape, fetal anomaly and death of the woman. If a woman received an abortion because a doctor told her that the pregnancy could cost her life, she would then have to testify in court, proving that fact. Republicans in this country have become fascist lunatics.

You change the world one person at a time. Treat everyone you meet like they are someone you love. You'd never fight to keep your mom from immigrating from another country, tell her who she has to love, or curse her out for cutting you off in traffic so give random strangers the same courtesy. Educate everyone on the difference between sex and gender. They are related, most of the time they match, they may match for you, that does NOT mean they are the same thing, and that they match for everyone.
TLDR; everyone should be who they want to be, and everyone should leave everyone to be who they want to be... I may get downvoted for the wrong reasons here, but I mean this with the best intentions... I really don't understand why it matters. People can be what they want to be. If you want to be a "them" instead of a "he/she" then so be it. You do you... On the other hand, why should another person HAVE to buy into that?... So long as things are amicable, and no harm comes of anyone, I really don't understand the arguments that happen... So what if I say "he" instead of "them"?... Some people call me the wrong name (they call me Simon, when my name is Sam), should I be offended at that? They're "misidentifying" me?... Anyway, rant over.
If you misgender someone on accident, as you said, it's just a mistake, like calling someone the wrong name. Very few to no people will fault you for that. If you keep making that mistake, on purpose or because you think it doesn't matter, then it's offensive, like if someone kept calling you Samantha instead of Simon, all the time, even after you've told them not to. Hope that clears it up : )
Load More Replies...Agree. But I maintain acknowledging birth sex AND gender, and not being offended when asked can be supremely important in ensuring you receive access to everything you need to live a full health life. E.g, I’m a medical pro. If you want to be seen as male, I have NO issues with that. I don’t even think referring to someone as “trans male” is right. Because it still illustrates a difference that doesn’t need to be there. But, I still need to clarify you were born female to ensure the entirety of your health needs are met and not overlooked. Such as ovarian cancer risk (in the event surgery isn’t pursued.) I understand it’s a very sensitive topic, but we want to try and establish and do what is best for you on an individual basis.
No one is saying you shouldn't disclose your birth sex to medical professionals, what on earth are you talking about ? Trans people don't want to "erase biological sex" or whatever, we just want it to not determine our lives and be able to separate it from gender

Corruption of capitalism, all the niggling little laws that allow the rich to milk the middle class. For example copyright laws that provide protection (and revenue) for 70 years after the copyright holders death. If you can't get just compensation in the first 10 years it wasn't that good. The lack of anti-trust enforcement that allow giant corporations to overwhelm the market and eliminate competition. No enforcement of existing labor laws that allow immigrants and poor to work for too many hours without breaks, overtime or reasonable wages. The list goes on, and on, but if capitalism could be improved we would all be better off.
This one is very serious . Copyright laws on textbooks mean that developing nations can't buy or make photocopies for their students and have to pay ridiculous sums in dollars to get textbooks. Even worse, blind students then can't get the books converted into braille. American copyright law is nothing short of predatory in terms of what it does to the developing world.

It's difficult deciding on just one thing the change. However, if I had to choose, I would choose to change how society has become judgmental and mean towards others. I lump the entitled mean judgmental behavior that I have witnessed, watched videos of and read about these past couple of years in the change. Often, I have found myself asking: "what is wrong with people today?" I miss the days of people being respectful of others. Our society has never been perfect, but things have gotten out of hand lately.
People aren't teaching kids basic good manners and politeness anymore. Really, it makes life so much easier.
A disinterest in history. Having even the tiniest think about previous societies can tell you so much about your own lived experience. What worked before will work again, what didn't won't.
People always ask how the Third Reich ever could happened, and yet a lot of people just blindly follow any ideology nowadays as long as it looks like the good side. Leftwing, Rightwing, Religions - different names, same methodes to lure in people. History repeats itself because nobody ever listens.
It's not just that nobody ever listens. It's more that nobody teaches. Look at Germany. They don't hide their history. Their history is still there in the open and available for people to learn from. Now, look at the U.S.. Though the U.S. internment camps weren't near what the Nazi camps were, they still went completely against what the U.S. has stood for from day one...yet it's only with the advent of the internet that these internment camps even existed. Reducing sexism starts with each household, which in turn should be influenced by govt policy. e.g. that children should not be brainwashed into accepting specific roles. Teach daughters to be self-reliant, etc.
We should have free health care. Free college. And all empty buildings should be made up for the homeless. Honestly the rich should have to give half of their worth over a certain amount to the state they live in for these things. Free food for kids under 16. Free childcare. These should be given to help society. I know people will argue as there are better things to change but if we could equal out the status quo a bit then a leveler ground could be achieved for all to live in harmony. Vote for me for prez. I want to change this country.
These things you're advocating for are normal in other countries such as mine.
I am assuming based on the use of English that they mean America. However those concepts and proposals are common in other countries such as mine.
Load More Replies...Nothing comes free because there’s always a price to pay. You pay taxes and that’s what allows a government to incentivize free healthcare, college, childcare, food, and etc. Also we should tax the rich but not too heavily. Maybe a third of their net worth would be more fair. Although this would be great, we are far from living in harmony because no one person is the same in their views and beliefs. However politics is a dirty business and running for prez is so much management and responsibility and talking with people(I’m a bit of introvert so that’s why I’m saying that). To be fair this is coming from a moderate conservative. (I do stand for abortion only in the worst case scenarios and LGBTQ rights but everything else I’m conservative). However I do wish you luck if you try to run for prez.
The taxes pay for that, obviously, as you recognise. The point is to break the poverty cycle. If you give poor people free education, they have a chance to become well-paid professionals and break the poverty cycle. And hence the need to resort to crime. Please see my lengthy response to your post below about the concept of college debt forgiveneess. Again, note that I am not downvoting you because you are not writing in a hostile manner.

Nothing disturbs me more than a positive idea gone bad. For every person who wants to benefit others there are more who want to use the same idea for exploitation and personal profit. Behind it all it is always people. Consequently, I don't think many of the problems stated here will satisfactorily be cleared up until people stop being self centered. That or a major leap in evolution occurs.
Evolution doesn't work fast enough to affect the change you mention. I'd say the relative slowness of evolution is why we're in the position we're in today. We evolved to be social and tribal. What we didn't evolve to be is constantly connected, either by artificial (internet) or natural (too many people to find some quiet space) means. Humanity needs a hard and abrupt population reset.

However, I think it's done a number of good things, e.g. enabled poor people to establish online money streams; enabled WFH during pandemics; enabled online education previously inaccessible (MOOCs); enabled most people to know first-hand or directly what is going on in other countries by directly engaging citizens from those places instead of relying on MSM; it has enabled international friendships and trade, etc. It has enabled more LGBTQIA+ people to come out, as well as more atheists. It's helped spread awareness of social issues in places where people were kept in the dark. It's helped people escape abusive regimes. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/mar/25/now-i-own-my-life-saudi-sisters-who-fled-family-granted-asylum (at least for a while, they were recently murdered).
in a school society i would change bullying. kids dont need to be bullying one another. Parents/adults should try and lead by example. This may happen at homes, out in public. Adults are the childs first teachers in life. As a teacher I feel for the kids that are being bullied. Racism due to the fact that some have different skin color. This doesnt change the fact that we are ALL still humans. We need to teach the children love for one another. I have had students transfer schools due to bullies interfering with their education. Often times the ones being bullied are the bright, intelligent students.
Zero tolerance for bullies, and no punishment for the kids who fight back to defend themselves
Bullying is a result of power differences and insecurity on the bully's part. People who bully must be given community services till they stop.
I would like to see people take responsibility for themselves instead of just doing whatever they 'feel like', then refusing to accept the consequences.
The treatment of animals.

I suppose that’s true. I guess what I’m trying to say is just have people care about what’s happening, even be aware of it. If people in power understand that and are motivated to make a difference, something big could happen and I think that could be good

Civilization is based on the group making judgements about what is appropriate and then changing what is appropriate as more information becomes available. What is criminal, legal, and encouraged changes based on those judgements. Pedastry was encouraged in ancient Sparta. We've now correctly come to the conclusion that pedophilia is now judged to be a criminal act. Going the other way, its no longer illegal for a black man to vote in Georgia. Both of those are good judgements and lanes that needed to be changed.
*mind. Not mine. Anyway: if what you are doing directly affects others materially (e.g. stealing, raping, pillaging, defrauding the taxman, etc.), then yes, you will be judged and we won't be quiet. If however you're referring to being a furry, or being trans, or gay, or whatever, ... then yes, I support your view.
From my American perspective, there is far less concern for what is right and just and good (not that it was ever great). Instead the point is to win and to do so at all costs. But I also feels like it goes further. It's not good enough to win, you've got to crush your opponent. Whether in politics or business or matters of faith or education or any number of other things, people are unwilling to accept an outcome other than victory for themselves and their "team."
yes, but that's just america. In Africa it's less aggressive than that. It's more about collaboration.
censorshipsucks : Africa certainly has it's own set of problems that outshine those in America though. In every act of generalization, there is a core lack of self-awareness.

Sociopaths rarely feel shame, and psychopaths never feel shame, the two psychological groups most inclined to practice cruelty.
Feeling shamed when you've done wrong helps you grow as a person and not make the same mistake twice. I come from an Aboriginal-Irish Catholic family, shame was a big part of discipline but done in a way where you understood why.
Brene Brown delineates between shame and guilt. Guilt is a positive bad emotion- equates to “I have done bad” and elicits change and growth- while shame is a destructive bad emotion - equates to “ I am bad” and has all kinds of terrible consequences for individuals and the societies they live in.

Load More Replies...Don't know lots of stuff mentioned already, maybe establishing that smart people are put in charge of a society and not the ones that are popular because they can talk the best?
One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard is "It doesn't matter if you are right if they don't like you." We became the dominant species because we can communicate. Telling 5 people about the bear and getting them to help makes evolution irrelevant because you don't need to wait 300 years for someone strong enough to beat the bear to be born. 5 asthmatics who someone has taught how to use a spear can take care of it. If you're going to send 5 asthmatics to go fight a bear, they deserve to follow someone who can explain why its necessary instead of just blind obedience.
But then we would vote for the most popular smart person and they would then have to immediately resign because theyre now popular and we are not voting for most popular and we would be stuck voting forever and ever in political purgatory
Yeah, should have been clearer - voting for people that are smart and not only popular because they sound good, that's what I mean
Load More Replies...I would end the tribalism of group identity and us versus them. When you're living in a cave and a bear or another group of 10 people 5 miles away were your greatest threat, it made sense. Now, my best friend can be a gay programmer living in Thailand I met through work and the love of my life can be a black farmer from Norway. I'd like us to stop identifying as gay or straight, American or Chinese, nurse or farmer and just be individuals of one group - the human race. Our biggest threat isn't 10 people a couple valleys over. Its the planet dying because we're worried more about the 20 people we know than the species surviving. We need to start treating everyone as part of that 20 and end all -isms like racism or nationalism because we are all the same - scared souls looking for a fair break.
But different cultures is what makes the world beautiful and scary when they clash. It's hard because in order for the entire planet to get along we would have to become some sort of homogeneous race with 0 differences or ideas. It would be a dystopian utopia if you get what I mean. We need our identity but we also need to be more tolerant of others
Before cell phones, if you called someone and they didn't answer, you could say, "he didn't answer, he must not be home," and that was a normal thing to say. Nowadays, I wish you could say, "he didn't answer, he must be away from his phone," and it would be just as normal. Instead, people seem to think it's strange if you don't answer your phone for whatever reason (let alone turn it off), or don't respond to a text immediately.
Just tell everyone you know to respect your boundaries. That's what I do. My voice mail in fact says that I do not take calls and it gives my email address. People can text first. A few times people have disrespected this preference I have embarrassed them. E.g. "Sorry, I can't chat right now as I am busy having sex, call back later". They never call back.
I would change it so that the very rich pay genuine taxes to give the poorer people decent education, healthcare and services.
In proper countries (ie not usa), this is in fact how things work. That's why places like germany give free higher education. HOWEVER you will always get tax evaders, bribery, and tax specialists who help the rich evade tax.
This has likely been said already, but I will say it again - acceptance towards the LGBTQ+ community! It’s hard enough being constantly misgenders - like, we need to normalize pronoun pins, or even just asking/using gender neutral language, as well as PDA between gay couples being as acceptable as such between straight couples.
While you are 100% right, many people (especially my age) are simply in the lgbtq community because it’s “cool” people LOVE appraise so they do it. No shame tho because everyone is human and I do agreee
I honestly don't care. I don't care if I misgender you because we will most likely not see each other again. And what do you mean, normalize? It's shoved in everything. You're called a bigot if you think it's wrong. You identify however the hell you want, but don't try to force me to walk on egg shells because you want me to care about you for five seconds.
This is a really complex topic to unpack, so at risk of also being misunderstood, I’ll try to cut to the core issue in the fewest words. Society is a employer-type provider rather than a parental one. If you want more, special, or different, then you must be able to offer goods or services of equal or greater value in exchange. If you demand concessions due to entitlement alone, you’ll either get nothing, or, you’ll get pushback. Also, if you want to be awarded a specialized status, then realize you are asking to be “othered”. That’s the point. If you want inclusiveness and equal regard, then your focus should be on “normalization” which is by it’s very tenet, is the opposite of being “othered”. If you ask for both of these concessions in the same proposal, you will not get either of them. Your cause is a valid and worthy one, so, win it by taking smaller, more concise, steps and being thoughtful of what you will be offering in exchange for the concessions you’re requesting.
That said, this should never have to apply to matters of basic individual human rights.
Load More Replies...Ima get downvoted probably but whatever. I’d change the racism and all that stuff. Like the gendered language? What is that? Can’t we al just accept we’re human and Al be in the same category? Doesn’t matter if ur a man or a woman. Like Morgan freeman said “ I’ll top calling you a white man, and you so calling me, a black man.” He’s intelligent cause it’s true. He said the way to stop racism is to stop talking about it. We got Disney channel over there turning Pride Family into a literal trash heap because they are inserting stuff about slaves building America. A black woman reviewed the clip and basically said it was repulsive. The clip is horrible. But does anyone get my point? I went a bit off topic..
But if they would stop doing that all those diversity executives would suddenly lose their jobs, a lot of people would be left without a methode to feel morally superior and bad directors couldn't hide their bad quality work behind it.
I think we still need to talk about racism, but we need to not think in it. I love my grandparents, but they think in colors. If it's a white girl they say "She had black hair and was wearing a pink shirt" if it's a black girl they say, "She was black." I don't know why we can't just think about people the same, while still recognizing their heritage.
you need to understand race issues because there are statistical anomalies which only correlate with race, e.g. percentage persons living in poverty in a slum correlates strongly with being browner rather than pinker. Hence, for informed interventions in areas which are based on statistics, governments need to know racial quotas/quantities in those areas. Same for schools etc.
So... do you not want racist biases in society, and for BIPOC people to not suffer from the effects of racism, or do you just want to not hear about that pesky racism anymore because it makes you feel bad ? I might have misunderstood the post, though
Sorry it will be a long post! I didn't get at all what it was with Disney Channel, probably because I didn't see it :) It is a fact though that there is racism for example when hiring. There was a study in the US where they sent the exact same application for a job but switched names from white sounding to to black sounding, and the white names got more often called in for interviews. The same has been done for scientific studies, a woman's name and the same paper is rated lower by reviewers than if it bears a mans name. So it's a fact and we must acknowledge it and not pretend it's not happening. Just today I got sent a job offer where the job said "he". How does a woman feel about applying for a job which by default writes "he". So I think we need to clean up our act. Isn't that what Morgan Freeman means? In the US there's this about African-Americans, Asian-Americans but we never hear European-Americans although that's what white Americans mainly are, immigrants from Europe.
Prob gonna get downvoted to hell but still. I believe we should be allowed to identify as a gender. If you don't want to, you don't have to. I like identifying as a woman, but if you just want to be human, I have nothing against you. In fact, it should be THEIR choice what they are. Not anybody else's

Food and water I totally agree with. here at school when students dont want to eat the food that is being served it breaks my heart bc there are some students who dont get much to eat and the food that goes untouched goes into the trash can. WE do have a sign up that says to feed their mind and bellies and not the trashcan. I always like to remind and show the students that without food we lack muscles and other nutritional values in those meals. At times depending on what grade videos to show the kids that are starving out inthe world.
Ok you have a few fair points but industrial everything? How do you think your products are made? In an industrial setting. It has been for hundreds of years and some factories are cleaner than others.

It's much more than just video games, but I would say it's a definite part of the problem, as are shows that portray violence, not to mention the news. Easy availability of guns doesn't help. A kid decides he hates someone and there's a gun there, and his not-fully-developed brain doesn't really comprehend the consequences of his actions. There are many factors. Patanjali said in the Yoga Sutras, "What you see you become." I think it's quite applicable here.
of course it is something way deeper. It could be incel subculture. It could be weeb subculture. It could be poverty. It could be an abusive family circumstance. There is plenty of research on this. However, when researchers point out these alternative causal hypotheses for teen violence they get dismissed as "woke".
What is incel culture? It seems to me that this word like all the other ists and phobes are thrown around way too often.

We've spent millenia working towards it, but get thwarted every time we develop a money system that elevates a group of people. I wish we could discover the one that works and implement it worldwide. SO many of these other problems would then begin to correct themselves.
I think we in Europe have the best system - A free, consumer driven market that forces innovation combined with a social market concept that supports people in need as best as it can
Consumer economics is a driver of climate change and environmental degradation. The markets really are not very good at making decisions
Load More Replies...anyone who tells me the markets make the best decisions hasn't noticed the periodic wall street crashes over the past century.
The "system" that was originally implemented to help needy people has unfortunately been turned into "...the more kids I have the more benefits I get" by some thus creating a perpetual cycle of children living in poverty and abuse. The real problem is that you can't just cut-off benefits to these abusers/baby-factories since the kids will be the ones to suffer and these people know it and use it to their advantage. And to those of you thinking I'm making this all up: get bent. It's a huge problem, I've seen it firsthand, and it it applies to all races.
This has been demonstrated to be a myth. People don’t have multiple babies to claim benefits. There are however people with complex lives who have little control over their lives, and yes they and their offspring need support, and not just financial.
A father and daughter I know run a church and daycare center in a not-so-great part of town, and they will tell you that yes, there are kids that were born just so the parent can "get the check" and how heartbreaking it is to see these toddlers with parents who don't give a s**t. Whoever said it was a "myth" needs to take the blinders off.
Load More Replies...(Sarcasm warning in 3,2,...) Yeah, so let's ban everything that would prevent all these unwanted babies in the first place. Let's forget that our society will force a girl to literally sacrifice her life and to permanently impair or end her career and self-development to raise babies. That we live in a society that will not force the father of the children to to the same accountability and penalties as the mother. A society that refuses to do the math about how a girl with no career development, no spouse, often no family, and dwindling or no social services support, as well as no means to birth control, sex education, or child care services, is supposed to get herself off the dole? Yeah... Whatever.
I once had a welfare neighbor ask if I had any shellfish scissors for cracking lobster. yeah right. Aboriginal Australians would work on average 4hrs/day to gather all the stuff they needed for the day. Imagine if your day consisted of fishing/hunting/gathering kangaroo grass at harvest time (equivalent to wheat). Then when that was done you go back to camp and do a bit of artifact making/getting meat ready/painting/fish trap making then have a big fire and feed with some stories and dancing. Go to bed and repeat. For the woman it was fishing/yam beds/gathering seeds (for bread) and fruit then come back for weaving/painting/bread making. Then retire to the fire for a feed, stories and a dance. Everybody helped with the kids and was seen as a parent (literally a village would raise the children) it would've been paradise
I get your feeling, but this vision of prehistoric human as one-with-nature-living-in-harmony is very idealized. After all, these hunter-gatherers developed into us...
But think about it! After farming and agriculture were invented, women were expected to stay home and look after children while men stayed in the fields to work, causing women to be looked down upon as weak, thus sexism was invented. Also, people invented slavery for workers in the fields, thus racism was invented. Switching to a diet of the same foods all the time instead of a very diverse diet caused heath problems. So although hunter-gatherers were probably just as miserable as farmers, the switch created inequality, power dynamics, and social classes. I am saying that I would make it so we never discover agriculture.
Load More Replies...Actually, Hunter gatherers did indeed drive species to extinction. Much of the megafauna that existed with the ascension of humans subsequently died out. What’s really interesting (and at the same time horrifying) is that these mini extinctions track along the same routes as humans migrations
The end of the ice age also helped kill the megafauna. They lost habitat which would be more detrimental than hunters. Hunter certainly helped but they most likely only finished it off rather than the main cause

The views on autism
It has changed significantly in recent years. When i was a kid you had to be non verbal to be autistic but these days we understand the spectrum a lot better. My local supermarket has a quiet hour every day where they lower the lights and turn the music off to cater for neurodivergent people. Admittedly society in general could be more accepting of neuro divergent people.
My brother has Autism. It's annoying, but imagine this. What country would you like to travel too? Japan? Sweden? Pakistan? They have a foreign language you don't know. You're at this country, you don't know what anybody is saying. You try to speak, but they don't speak your language. Would you be upset? You're kinda like a toddler, you have a big meltdown because you're frustrated. Now everbody is staring at you. Then somebody who kinda knows your language can teach you the country's language. That's the role of special teachers.

We have training, licensing and testing for ever skilled job out there, especially if it affects other people or society as a whole, but anyone can have a child. In many areas of the world there people who are forced, coerced, guilted or shamed into having children they don’t want or can’t cope with. If we want to lower crime rates, improve society’s mental health crises, and stop the cycles of both poverty and abuse in the world, we need to do a better job at screening, training, and supporting parents and allowing people who shouldn’t be parents to choose not to be with no stigma, pressure or shame.

Disciplining your kids. Honestly I was in the cinemas with my mom 2 days back. We haven't been in a long time. So as the the big screen was opening up, I could hear the kids shouting and running around. And as the movie was playing, I could hear peppa pig being played on a phone. The parents didnt say anything. I'm also fuming as I'm writing this. I should've had a talk with those kids and tell to not misbehave and have a word with the parents about them not disciplining their children. Younger kids should have more discipline so that in the future, they'll know how to behave and not push people buttons. DISCIPLINING YOUNGER KIDS SHOULD NOT BE FROWNED APON !!!!
Is the term discipline? The way I handled this is to explain to my kids how their decisions affect others. If the kids are running around in a movie theatre it suggests it's not a movie they're interested in. I would assume the parents wanted to see the movie and didn't think beyond their own wants as to how their kids would get bored. So it's about everyone realising that you actually affect those around you with your decisions.
That’s where we fumble with words. This goes the other way too. Don’t overdo it

It has a mystical quality that links back to the ancients because it still stands from BC. And it stands on a particular spot where the sun shines meaningfully on those rocks at a time of day and year. To me, it looks like a basic ancient courtroom. Big door for the big tribe and smaller doors for the other tribes. Tribal leaders came to conclusions in full view of their village populations within the circle. And passed judgement. And in accordance with ancient understanding of the Gods and of the stars. That place held the sun. It's pagan law. I love history - the above survives today just as much as it did then.
not a bad theory but ... how is this something you want to change in society?
An interest in history. If you don't understand the driving forces behind moments in history that we still live now, you are sorely lacking in a hinterland. History teaches us so much because people don't really change. As to the above post all I can say is that people won't accept c**p in a level playing field. But when the bosses are involved? As long as people think they are included, and are heard - pffft the bosses will get away with whatever they want. All they have to do is pretend respect. Like walk thru a gateway whilst observed, chat s**t people can't hear and then deliver a decision the team must abide by. I mean do we not see the same every day in our own lives?

Penalizing people for not being poor or working poor.
Accept that one solution will NOT be right for everyone. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everybody.
Working. I hate having to ask for a vacation and wasting my days not doing i want or enjoying life.
Fair, but what would you do without a primary stable source of income?
Google "basic income grant experiment finland" and similar. It's something that's being experimented with. Also, a number of countries give basic incomes to their citizens. Before you go libertarian and ask about where does the money come from... remember Nixon decoupled the dollar and gold. Meaning it's fiat currency, you can just invent more ("quantitative easing"). So it's really all just myth. The advantage to BIG is you then create more consumers for the economy, instead of letting people resort to crime.

People should be taught in small groups, no larger than 15. Student age not a factor. 2. Students' progress assessed by competency benchmarks. Student age not a factor but failure to show competency may mean no further participation on that content until competency demonstrated. 3. At all ages, students' abilities, wishes, needs considered as part of planning progress. Changes can always be made. 4. Student may leave temporarily or permanently when it is clear no further progress is happening, but all retain right to reenter with counselling. 5. Completion of stages marked by significant acknowledgement by community. cf "rites of passage" 6. Focus on literacy and numeracy plus critical thinking in early years 7. In teens: focus on civics, life skills (finance, cooking, hygiene, repairs, for instance) and a broadening participation in community/society. More academic content introduced. 8. Post teens: specialised courses depending on chosen life path. What do you lovely Pandas think?
Most of the above is montessori method. Send your kids to montessori schools.
I want that people finally accept my claim to rule the world
Can I be your defense minister like the person in charge of the military?
Probably those pointless polls on the internet
It's pretty hard to pick ONE thing, but probably Dance Moms. That woman should still be in jail, for a lifetime of child abuse. They seriously have 9yos dancing in crop tops, working nonstop, and the worst part is ABBY. YoU nEeD tO pOiNt YoUr ToEs mOrE!!!!!! Like, no. I've only seen half of season 1 but WHY. JUST WHY? WARNING: SEASON 1 SPOILERS I warned you For me, the worst thing is Abby making the NINE YEAR OLDS dressing like prostitots and having them gyirate (did I spell that right?) on stage. Would be fine for 16, 17, MAYBE even 15yos but NINE! 9? NINE? THE NINETH NUMBER? Abby LOVES to put Nia (dancer) in sterotypical ethnic roles. The LaQuifa dance? What? Abby really be playing matchmaker with 13yos. It's like Dirty Dancing. Also the dance about suicide. I feel it's amazing, but again, too dark for 8 and 9 year olds.
It’s entertaing tho

Are you saying people MUST all sleep at the same time, or, that they don't and they should? or are you saying that it is imposed ON you that you MUST (and you don't want to?)
Lol the way I read this in a voice with hands gesturing all over the place🙆🙅🤷

yep, we have something like that in my country. We have social housing and private housing. However, if we did try nationalise all housing, I guarantee you it would become a hotbed of corruption, where only the wel-connected got decent housing. At least in our system, those who have no money have a place to live and those who have money can buy something better.
Men. We aren’t the problem most of the time. We aren’t trying to hurt anyone and also being falsely accused ruins lives. Women trying to cancel or accuse us just for looking at the gym, women saying that we need to man up. Also we aren’t as emotional and we suck at taking hints. I just wish that people would just understand that we aren’t the problem. Also toxic feminism is a load of nonsense. I don’t give a f*ck if you downvote me. This has to be heard. For this type of thing I’d recommend the YouTube channel Roma army. She’s great to watch.
If men aren’t the problem most of the time, are you suggesting that it’s women who are the problem?
Both genders can equally be the problem and also here’s the thing. Men aren’t as emotional because if we try to be vulnerable and open up to women, then in an argument the woman will use emotions against him.

Rulers of nations, by and large, are men, who have, throughout history, caused innumerable wars. In the US, at least, men still make more money, on average, than women. Major religions were created by men, and have put men in positions of power, while discriminating against women, for a very long time. All of that said, there are also wonderful men in the world, and not so wonderful women. But men have held much of the power for much of the time, and all of the points I've outlined would seem to refute your statement "men aren't the problem most of the time".
I know I’m double posting but hear me out. Debt relief. It shouldn’t exist and I have a very good explanation. Now keep in mind that I’m only 17 and not the best with finances but I’ve been taught some of the basics. We shouldn’t have a student loan debt relief because some people made sh*tty financial decisions before going to college and not saving up enough for your tuition. This stupid student loan debt relief hurts the ones who made the smart financial decisions and aren’t in debt and it’s bullsh*t that some lawmakers want to raise taxes just to relieve people of their debts and that we are the ones paying out of pocket just for the person who ends up in student loan debts financial failure
OK glad to hear you're only 17 and american, because you haven't yet developed compassion. So I am going to spell it out for you. Hear me out. PS I am in africa. Let me start by saying You don't have a good explanation. You have the Republican explanation. It has nothing to do with s****y financial decisions. It has everything to do with a LONG history of social circumstances. Let's say Mr X is born in a lower income area. Is it his fault? No. He didn't choose to be born. Now, say his mom's unemployed and his dad drives a taxicab, say, and makes say $1400 per month. Say they're in NY and most of that goes to rent, the rest to food. They can't afford medical cover, they can't afford movies, lattes, and defintiely can't afford college. Now suppose Mr X has a high IQ and does well at school. He deserves to get into university. How else is he going to lift his family out of poverty? You could say well his parents made bad financial decisions. Message continues in my reply...
So his parents were born poor. His parents' parents might have been say, a gardener and a housemaid etc. So they couldn't also afford college. So they never got skills. Remember this is before TEDx and before Coursera etc. So they were poor. And their parents or grandparents were literally slaves in the South. Again, born poor. It's called the poverty cycle. The only way to break it is to give someone a chance. How do you do that? You give them free education. By the way, MOST civilised countries give free schooling and SOME give free higher education, for example, germany. You'd hardly call germany a failed state, right? Or communist? So you need to reconsider your position. Instead of blaming people, look at HOW they got into their life circumstances rather than assuming it is a character flaw. NOW obviously you could say "they shouldnta had kids". Well sure. As a privileged white person you can say that because your parents could afford contraception, abortion etc., and choose that.

If you only go part-time, you're in your retirement years before you can graduate, much less start a new career. You've clearly not encountered how many *state* colleges will quietly remove or fail core curriculum credits you've already earned in good standing, and, will only allow you to draw your self-support dole from the unsub loans rather than your grants. Unsub loans *never* go into deferment, and gain escalating interest until paid off. Student loan managment companies can endlessly sell and resell your loan to whoever they want, however many times they want, and you have zero say in the matter. Each time your loan is sold, new fees, penalties, and additional interest will be added to it. Your loan can be in limbo for months or years between buyers and this is how an intial consolidation of $65k becomes over $200k inside 5 yrs without you doing a damned thing wrong.
People shouldn't have to be in debt for 10-20 years to pay off a higher education. They just shouldn't. Other countries offer "free" higher education (paid for by taxes). With what the US spends on the military budget each year (in the hundreds of BILLIONS), free or just low cost university is entirely doable.
I am not entirely against free higher education, but I don’t think that’s really going to happen anytime soon. Making education free in America. However, I am for spending hundreds of billions in defense because who knows what could happen? World War III has probably already started and we need to be prepared and ready for whatever comes. If our country makes a draft and requires young men to join, I would gladly give my life for our country despite my mental disorders and different conditions(Autism, ADHD). But you do have a good point though.

When I went to school on the "Rez" we were given a classical education that included home economics, shop classes, logic and critical thinking, creative arts, sports, field trips to various industrial operations to learn how these works and what products or services they provided. High school was when we used what we learned on our field trips to start hands-on apprinceship training in something we discovered we might like. We didn't just belong to our parents. Us kids belonged to our community too. If your parents were fails, you had plenty of "aunts" and "uncles" who would help support and nurture you. If my country could adopt just one practice from my people, this one would be it.
society itself. whole thing needs to take a hike and leave me alone
Penalizing people for not being poor or working poor.
Communism, seriously, its amazing until corruption gets in
Every system of government is infinately corruptable. But communism is an "government" either. It's a way of life for a community of people.
The focus on romance as your focus in life. Some people don't want a spouse. Others just won't get one. It's okay. You can live your life.
How we treat animals. I wish that everyone were vegan. It's their world as well as theirs and their lives, feelings and relationships are as important as ours.
Dude stop with the freaking veganism. We are not beating the f*****g animals and making them bleed to death. Swear to god
Who's gonna tell the dude that plants are living with feelings as well?
I am a female so other females don’t downvote me please!!! “Males are toxic They cheat They lie They need to be strong” Girl, we are also the problem lol
Y'all this isn't really about society but you know in the movies when the guy is just chilling and then this simp girl just comes in and they're in a weird position and then the guy's wife comes in and jumps to the conclusion that her husband was cheating on her. Why?? It's like y'all can't be friends with one another. And then she totally overreacts and then she's like "oH I wAnT A DiVoRcE, hE cHeAtEd!" Like girl stop. You're cringe.
And then she goes to meet her MALE friend and nobody says anything???
Not sure if this has been said yet, but I wish feminism was fighting for equal rights and opportunities as men. Nowadays, it feels like they're trying to become superior to men and destroy them. Why should I feel sorry for something I had no part of?
Feminism supports a healthy relationship between equals. It doesn't seek to take away anything from the male population, but to provide safety and equality to the feminine population. Sounds like you're getting an earful from men who are afraid they're somehow going to lose something by women gaining equality.
