So-called 'Influencers' and TikTok challenges.

The influencer thing is so rediculous. People let their children constantly watch these narcissists and wonder why their behavior is so bad. It's detrimental to society.

Tiktok challenges have become outright dangerous and life threatening. People start doing anything for 15 seconds of fame.

True, but there was planking, flagpole sitting etc before tik tok so I guess there are always people willing to do dangerous stuff for 'fame'.

Tic Tok challenges are so stupid. Let's all do stuff that might kill us so we can post a stupid video. Also taking selfies with wild animals and in dangerous places need to stop. We were fine before influencers came along. Maybe some are okay but so many just try to get free stuff for it.

My problem is that most of it isn't original content at all.. like people making money off 'react' videos just trying to leech a little bit of money off someone else's original idea or talen. Like all the lifehack videos with all the same stupid common sense tips in - just like all the rest. I guess it's just that ingrained grumpy old man in me that it's just depressing to see how quickly the 'wild west' of the internet conformed to the usual b******t we find everywhere else... people trying to sell us stuff.

The Internet has just made it so much easier to hustle up a "following". Humans seem to always want a "leader" whether that leader is promising prosperity or suggesting eating laundry detergent. Videoing and posting this behavior is the new "twist" and that 15 minutes of fame has been whittled down to about 30 seconds before something else becomes the "thing" to follow. And if Natural Selection has anything to say about this behavior (And it seems to work especially with people taking dangerous "selfies" while falling to their deaths), the number of influencers/Tik-Tok challengers may stay the same but the individuals will be constantly changing as Darwin does his thing!

I agree that gender doesn't matter. However, even if a person decides to transition later in life, when they are born they are still a certain gender. They don't know that they can be trans or non binary, they don't even know how to feed themselves. I think that the huge, glorified, and dangerous gender reveals should stop, but for the parents and families it's fun to bite into a colorful cupcake :)

What's different about modern cancel culture is boycotting individuals and small businesses. Some racist lady in the park got fired from her job after the internet jumped on the condemnation bandwagon. Is this an effective way of teaching her the error in her ways? Most likely she was left with nothing but other racist people who would befriend her and some 'old fashioned' business that would hire her, all of which would contribute to her becoming more racist and more disdainful to people who condemn racism. She's never going to say "My life was ruined by a lot of well-meaning people who had a very good point." Any chance at a conversation is dead when mob rule prevails, and that's my problem with it.

Agreed. Bored Panda's -10 automatic suspensions need to be stopped. Or people should engage and discuss with the op. People put comments for many reasons, even if they know it's unpopular. You only get a certain amount of room to say what you need to say. Everyone's point of view is valuable and relevant to an issue. Perhaps someone sees an aspect that is important but overlooked. But no. People just downvote if it doesn't fit in with their agenda.

I'm not sure what "cancel culture" really means... If a public person goes out of line with whatever comment, and I don't like that so I stop following them, am I doing something wrong? Am I allowed to speak up against whatever views of theirs I find harmful? I'm not being snippy, I honestly don't understand.

    StarmanWaitingInTheSky

Cancel culture means to group together to snuff out someone's ability to speak and communicate, and possibly the ability to continue with their day to day lives and work. An example would be Twitter permanently suspending Donald Trump's account so he can't Tweet out his rhetoric anymore. There might be some better examples that I can't think of at this hour, but that's one. It can get really pathetic with regular folks being cancelled over unpopular views or even mistakes and being just a human.

Schools are not about learning. They are about instruction and programming. Schools are an opportunity, but parents need to teach their kids how to think and use the information that is taught, UNTIL the current educational system is revamped to actually focus on learning, and not creating a population of worker-bees.

In my experience there are lots of teachers who hate this too (including myself). The schools want higher accreditation scores, or parents expect more, or the governing bodies dictate certain things. I also hate nation-wide testing because it means teaching just to get certain scores on a test, rather than for the range of students you have.

I don't understand how teachers justify this, like they'll say, "it's only an hour and a half every day", but forget that the kids have other classes with teachers who think the same way, so you may find yourself with 4 hours or more of homework per day. Growing up, a good portion of my week-ends were spent doing homework not just for the monday, but getting ahead for the tuesday and wednesday, as much as I could. That on top of having 2 to 4 hours long exams every saturday morning during the last 3 years of high school, it was hard developping a hobby, playing a sport regularly, and doing fun things in the week-end

I’ve never forced my kids to do homework and often just written on it that they were too tired/didn’t have time due to other commitments and if there was an issue to contact me directly - always have done as my son was diagnosed with adhd and homework could absolutely ruin an entire evening/weekend and I refused to make everyone suffer for it

Cars and factories in the US are much cleaner, and many super-toxic chemicals, such as DDT and freon, have been banned. But now we're deep into overconsumption, trashing the planet, and wasting resources on crap. Plus many of the countries, such as China, that produce the things we buy, have not been regulating their pollution. So while we pride ourselves on being green, the countries we buy from have been poisoning the planet more than ever.

The two main reasons why China pollutes so much are the huge population and how the world's companies send their products to China to be made because of the cheap labor and few laws protecting workers.

I don't exactly think that pollution is popular, per se... I think popular activities and things lead to pollution. One of the biggest problems is that people often don't want to sacrifice convenience, aesthetics, and/or time, in order to use things that are better for our environment.

The thing where *insert non white race* wears weave or cornrows or some other "black" hair style and is told they shouldn't do that because it's cultural appropriation. It's a hairstyle. Grow up and learn to deal with the fact and hairstyles, food, clothes, etc can't be controlled like this simply because of race. You can definitely educate the person if you think they should know something tho

I think you can include Caucasians in that, especially. It's just another example of how immature our society has gotten. WHEN I was a child, I remember hearing all the time, "Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I am very likely fully Caucasian (though there's a possibility of some indigenous blood, but whatever). I LOVE the look of cornrows and braids. Due to the "social climate" and the possibility of being misunderstood as uncaring, I can never get them.

If you are speaking literally, I agree. However, the term "game-changer" can be used to describe something that vastly improves a task, chore, recipe, etc. Let's use your example of laundry detergent. If a company promotes a laundry detergent that smells like fruit instead of flowers, and calls it a "game-changer", I would agree that's taking liberties with that phrase and using it to exaggerate for the sake of selling the product. However, if they are promoting a laundry detergent that has been tested and proven to get any stain out, using cold water, and no pretreatment, but is also better for the environment and doesn't use harsh chemicals...THAT would definitely be a "game-changer".

YES!!! so many people are like "oh, you don't want a goldfish, they only live for a few weeks" NO. they can live for 15 years, but bowls are too small. and they are seen as "the perfect starter pets" but they are high maintenance and belong in large tanks or ponds. My papa has 3 that are around 7 years old,he keeps them in a pond in his backyard and they recently had a lot of babies. He gave about 13 to us. We have to do water changes regularly, and make sure they have enough room to grow.

I found out recently that the oldest known goldfish was 43 years old. Forty. Three. I don’t think that is the age of a “throwaway pet” What’s even more shocking is it was won at a carnival, carnival fish tend to be very sick. The fishy must have been cared for really well if he lived that long! I do wish that people would stop supporting fish as carnival prizes.

Yes. Most young people think that how celebrities/influencers portray themselves on social media is how they look in real life. Case in point- Madonna. I've always loved her music, and how she pushes boundaries, and I think she's beautiful (in real life), but on Instagram she looks barely thirty. Why would anyone, any well-known celeb want to put a false image of themselves out there? If you're anyone who's truly interested in them for their music, opinions, etc., you are going to see them on t.v., in concert, or in movies, and you'll see their true faces. Why would they want to show their fans a false image? Especially when they all know young people will think it is real. I couldn't believe it when, last week, the gossip media reported that "fans were rushing to the internet" with concerns about how Madonna looked. (I guess she either forgot to turn filters on, or used a different type.) Most older teens and young people know about filters and how they are used. I guess I'm just too old to understand it, but I really dont get it.

I was able to pull myself out with friends from NA. But my life depends on legal, non addicting drugs d/t autoimmune disease.

There's a really sad story of a mom who made her kids film videos and if they did not do it she would lock them in a closet for days without food. Abused them, and even forced them into ice baths and if they didn't do it she would stick their heads under the water. She is not arrested you can find more info by looking up "The Fantastic Adventures Scandal".

I still don't believe we are animals. Just my personal belief. I'd be happy to discuss, rationally. Yes, we are evil and sinful and unable to fulfill the higher purpose we were created for without our Perfect Creator; the only One Who can give us true wisdom and instruction, and the Source of true life. Otherwise we degenerate to our base instincts, we give into our impulses, and we blindly surrender to doing "what's right in our own eyes". We are like Cain. We are like Pharaoh. We are without excuse...and time is running out to change. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Choose carefully who you let into your life, in any way. Aside from that, it's an unfortunate symptom of a deeper societal problem. The best way to combat it, is to not tolerate behavior that demeans women from your male family members, and teach your sons and grand sons to treat women with care and respect. We change the world with one action at a time.

I never pressured my kid nor really paid too much attention to grades and marks. If I here she passed, she passed. I was more attentive to what she was learning and how well she was catching on. Having a kid with a learning/development disability/delay really puts a different light on the education system. They're giving kids a whole lot of nonsense and just expect them to repeat it in answers to questions, and summarize with pointless instructions that make the kids think about anything other than the content of what they are supposed to be writing about. There's no creativity, actual hands on exploration and discovery and free-thinking. Just "sit at your desk. Be quiet. Do as your told. Pay attention to the instructions. Raise your hand when I say it's okay."

I’ve always thought the argument that kids are too young to be told that some people love the same gender as them, or both gender, or feel they were born in the wrong body etc was far too complicated and traumatic absolutely ridiculous. Compare that to being told about some dude betrayed by his friend, tortured, whipped, having thorns pushed into his skull then nailed through his flesh to a cross and hung up to die, but because it wasn’t going quick enough they give him a good old stabbing with a spear for good measure - how the hell is it ok to tell kids that but not about different relationships? My oldest came home in tears one day when she was little really upset about the king who killed all the babies and his horrible that was - she was inconsolable after holding it in all day at school and took her a while to get over it. Religion is fear disguised as morality and it’s well past it’s sell by date

EXACTLY. Someone tell this to my aunt. I wasn't raised to believe in God when I was younger, and then my mom died when I was young so when my aunt took us in, she raises us to believe in God and whatnot. Not saying that I don't believe in God, but I feel like she forced it on us way too early just because she was rasied like that. Even my older sister and I will make jokes about how she accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior from the age of 3. She stays insisting that my sister is an evangelist and she's gonna grow up to be a preacher or whatever. Not that that might not be a possibility, but I feel like it's better to just encourage whatever they wanna do. She also stays talking about how we weren't created to love the same sex and it's hella annoying

Yes I totally know the feeling. My daughter and her boyfriend/fiancé, Austin The Terrible (or ATT for short- iust my little nickame to lessen his hold on me [for more adventures of ATT, see some of my other postings] are always needling me about the fact that I take legally prescribed pain pills. The pills I take aren't even the most potent or addictive ones. Not Oxycodone, or Vicodin. One is a synthetic pain killer, and the other ones are just Tylenol 4 which is similar to Percoset. She wants me to try something natural, like herbalife. The latest one is Kratom. One of her Co-workers takes it, and of course has to tell everyone what a miracle supplement it is, while my daughter tells every person she meets about her poor drug addicted mom (she and ATT think I have an addiction problem, which I don't. If I did, my doctor would not prescribe them for me. She is truly one of the good ones.) 《BP is limiting my word count. Please see my next posting right now》

Ths newest is called Kratom. I looked it up and it is unregulated and considered very dangerous, with all the side effects you could ever think of. So dangerous in fact, that the DEA raided three stores in California and confiscated an untold amount of it. I'm 56, with chronic arthritis, disc problems, and anxiety. There is no way I can go without pain piils and, beside that, I'm required to leave a urine sample every month, so my doctor would know if something was up. My daughter and ATT don't understand the toll chronic pain takes on an older person. They just tell me that I should "suck it up" and keep going. When I was their age (20 and 21) I could do that, and I did. For many years. But when I developed Restless Leg Syndrome, I just couldn't do it anymore. It is an awful, debilitating condition, and my pain triggers it,and it triggers my pain, so yeah, vicious circle. Thank you for the comment. Happy Panda-ing!

Everyone is trying to go for the same style of makeup, just with different colours, and trying to hide every feature that makes them unique, even trying to change their face shape with contouring. I go au natural 99% of the time, within the last few years I've noticed I'm more self-conscious about my face and neck that I've been basing hairstyles to hide certain areas I used to not think much about. I've now found out I have a round but A-triangular face and it's not attractive in today's standards.

This is something more people are noticing. I was talking with a sales clerk at a new clothing store. I was waiting for my daughter as she was trying something on and I was looking in the mirror at my new wide flares (pretty much bell bottoms) and we had gotten on the topic of 70s styles coming back. The sales clerk even agreed that in the past decade, at least, there's been no originality between brands and stores, and clothing is not as fun whereas in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s clothing was fun and experimentive. Sure, vintage and retro styles are becoming more popular, but the this century seems to be stuck on finding it's own revolutionary style.

I'm actually shocked so many parents are allowing it. My mom would ban me from knowing what snapchat, tiktok and youtube is about. She would be scared of predators seeing me and finding out my real name and where I live. She was so afraid of online predators I wasn't even allowed to know we had internet (I think we had dial up and I was only allowed on the net for school projects, and my mom would take over the computer.). Even today, as an adult, my mom found my channel and has been telling what videos to delete if she finds I have anything she thinks is not for "public viewing", such as my bedroom. So many youtubers film their content in their bedrooms.

    1. ALL brutality. 2. We need to be more careful about what we label racist. 3. YES! It's killing our society. 4. Every person has their own perspective and motives. Until people choose to only write the facts, and write ALL the facts, our history will always be flawed. 5. Deceitful bribery or threats within lobbying need to stop. However, I don't believe there is anything wrong with talking to leaders about an issue, openly and honestly, and trying to show them why you believe it's a good thing. That's IF it's a good thing. 6. The whole Healthcare system needs a revamp from the ground up. There are people making a huge profit by treating patients like products.

Sorry, I missed the pockets in clothing. I think more people need to only buy what they really want and is useful, and we should also learn how to sew something as simple as a pocket, a hem, or a button.

Saying that people can't be lgbtqia+ if they're christian or believe in God. . My aunt, unfortunately, does not "agree with their lifestyle". Her words, not mine. "Their" meaning anyone who's lgbtqia+. I, as you can see, am Bisexual. I've known since about a year ago, and it was a real revelation for me. My best friend has two dads, and I never cared or thought badly of them, but my aunt did. I always thought that was fine with my aunt, too, until recently when she said a few things about them. She says that she just lets me hang out with my friend because she's really confused and it was God's calling and whatnot. The second part is like, ok, that's cool, but the first part just annoys me beyond extent. That and another time when she, me, and my sister were just vibing at starbucks, and she starts saying how gay people ARE gay because they don't have a father figure in their life. I imeadiately glance at my sister because like. . .our dad has been gone. and I honestly could care less, but it's her making assumptions for me. That's just not cool. And she's said previously that if we ever feel atraction to the same sex, then we should tell her so she can "pray away that evil spirit". WHAT. THE. HECK. I'm young and I'm almost certain that If I told her about my feelings it wouldn't go well. It's just so annoying. She says that God didn't make us to fall in love with the same sex and whatever, but I completely disagree, and I consider myself a Christian. And that's just confusing. Because if god loves everyone, does that just exclude everyone part of the lgbtq community???? Likeeee?? That just annoys me beyond extent. Like what the hell?

The expectation that women respond in a demure, submissive and polite manner (with a smile!) when their boundaries are violated. Ex; men who stand too close, the “casual” touch, the “you’re cute but let’s find a man for some real info.” Good rule for men who are confused by this: If “x” behavior towards another man would earn you a punch in the face, then that behavior isn’t appropriate toward women, either. I’ve never heard a man say to another man “c’mon honey where’s a smile?”

Advertisements on TV for prescription drugs. Most people lack the knowledge to determine if a drug is right for their condition but they hound their doctors about it and give them bad reviews if they don't prescribe. Any drug advertised on TV is going to be expensive, and it contributes to high medical costs. Also, studies have found that those long lists of grisly sounding side effects they tack on at the end actually make people MORE likely to trust the drug because "Hey, the company is being honest with us".

Venerating religion and culture above any other logic and reason. If your culture allows bad things, those are bad things and don't talk to me about the sacred history of culture. Stop oppressing people just because you've always oppressed them! I have certain things I won't eat because I have assessed their qualities as food and decided they are awful and make me feel unwell. If I were to be incarcerated, I have no right to food without ingredients which, say, give me heartburn or diarrhea, but if my magic sky man says no in an ancient book then that's protected and they must cater for me. If I want to wear a hat in class because it's cold and hats are warm "no hats in class" but if I want to wear one because the magic sky man says I must, hat policy exemption. By all means do religion, but don't protect it over and above other reasons and belief systems. If someone has a convincing argument to let them do something, assess those arguments equally.

Tbf, I think some people don't care because even if it goes in the trashcan where does it end up? At a large landfill on assigned land where birds and other animals scrounge around, and the wind blows around. Some of it, including "recycling" gets shipped on barges to be dumped onto other lands. Some of those barges get caught in high gale winds and large waves that capsize the barge and all that garbage gets strewn about in the sea. The best solution is go back to the old, old days before plastics and one-time-use products were around.

Are we going to start telling other cultures, like Sri Lankans, to not give their kids those 15+ lettered names? In a world that's becoming more and more of a melting pot we're going to be exposed to names and words we've never heard before. We're just going to have to get used to it. What should be stopped is people getting angry over names. It's just a name. Ask how to pronounce it. People also need to stop being angry over having to help people who aren't familiar with that name on spelling and pronunciation, especially if there's a difference in cultures.

A trend is only as good as its consumers attention. Let other people waste a ton of money on clothing they normally would sell at Goodwill. My kids think it's cute and I told them that we don't waste food, we reuse things or fix them when we can, and I will not buy clothing that is already damaged. I'm pretty relaxed about how my kids dress (self-expression wise) but paying more than full price for damaged goods is not going to happen.

My daughter had a couple pairs of those. One pair she bought, and the other pair she ripped herself. The self made pair had more skin showing than jeans, so much that her school made her wear leggings under them, or get sent home from school. That was a few years ago when she was eighteen. My mom said that if my daughter had tried to get out the door wearing them, she wouldn't have gotten far.

The N-Word Pass. People at my school stay joking around about the N-Word Pass, saying that they have it because they're black, or jokingly asking their friends for it because they're white. I genuinely enjoy making race jokes with my friends, my close ones, anyways, who get it and aren't offended(and neither am I). But I've never had anyone of my white friends ask for the N-Word Pass jokingly or not. It's honestly mind blowing how many white people have said the n word or are this close to saying it. I don't even find it funny. If one of my white friends came up to me and asked me for the n word pass with a straight ass face, I would die on the spot. I just think that's not cool. Like I enjoy that our generation is so diverse and we're all comfortable making race jokes because that's just how we are, but I just see a problem with having something entitled to you because you're a certain race or identity or something like that. I see an issue with that and I've made it clear with my friends that I just don't think that's cool. It's hard to explain so I hope that made some kind of sense.

It's manufactured to be cheap, cheaply made, with cheap labour and cheap working conditions. Absolutely horrific what has happened in Bangladesh. When those factories were collapsing with workers inside, and catching fire with people unable to escape, I saw and heard some of what was being said on shows like 'Lang and O'Leary Exchange' show (Idk why I watched that at night.) they were more interested and concerned about the loss of profits and what it would do with the clothing industry and investor money. Absolutely appalling.

This is not to be confused with those who have long suspected and noticed something wrong, done their research on what it could be and drawn to a likely conclusion without changing or exaggerating the disorder. Many people have gone unassessed and undiagnosed for years because it's costly and not easy to get access to those services as an adult.

But that "uurghhh I need a coffee" thing which normalises both the culture of working so much that you cannot do it without drugs AND the fact that using drugs is the answer to feelings - no thanks
