I’ll go to my family’s house and we’ll have chocolate fondue (I like dipping in banana and strawberries the most). Before midnight we’ll get out bottles of sparking grape juice and sparkling apple cider (the red grape juice is definitely the best) and then we pour it all into champagne flutes. At midnight everyone yells happy new year and stuff then we go around and clink drinks.

I don't really have any, but I spent this New Years in a house I rented at the beach with just me and a friend, and it was the most relaxing, amazing way to start the new year that I may make it my new tradition!

When the ball drops (and it turns new year+my birthday), my parents kiss me on the cheek and take photos in front of the Christmas tree. I then eat the (typically cupcake but last year was muffin and this year was lemon meringue pie) we then look at fireworks for a bit and head inside and have apple cider.

Putting on a pair of noise-canceling headphones to drown out the sounds of fireworks...PTSD can be a real pain sometimes...

I'm so sorry (sympathetic not pity). I have PTSD as well and though that isn't a trigger for me I know how affecting triggers can be.

Actually this is for the day of New Years Eve - we clean the whole house so there is no clutter or mess when we start the new year. We also have a family meeting that night to talk about the good things that happened that year and what we would like to happen in the new year. Well, one year one parent did not help with the cleaning and then used the family meeting time to complain about stuff from the past year and only had negative suggestions for the coming year. That was our last family meeting ever. I now have the same cleaning routine but a different husband.

I put a piece of bread, charcoal, salt, a silver coin, a bandaid and an old candle on the hearth. I light the candle during the evening and then at midnight use it to light a new candle. I blow the old candle out and put it into the bin.
