Post a useful body hack.

Deodorant on mosquito bites.
Also works pretty well with hand sanitizer. Burns like a b-tch for a few secs though, but it's for a good cause, innit :p
I read that in a previous BP post, tried it and was extremely impressed. I'm a bite-ridden disaster until early fall and I can't help but scratch until I bleed. This was a game changer and beats the hell out of vinegar as a remedy and the relief seems to last way longer. My son even has his friends hooked on this for relief. (I also discovered that Speed Stick for men works better than my women's brand).
(From a doctor) Sometimes right after they finish peeing and zip up, men feel like there is a little still left. It's getting trapped in a urinary tract u-bend, and you can squeeze some out with a little press at the front of the perineum. Also, sit down to pee. That's not a hack, it's just hygiene and tidiness.
I'm a male and I approve of this message. On a serious note though, and you really can't make this sh!t up - peeing standing makes it splash all over the place. You don't see it, and you don't feel it, because it's so small and miniscule. Fast-forward a week and get in there with UV-lights, anyone would be disgusted (hopefully anyway). Also, sitting down to pee is a lot more comfortable ofcourse :p
Glad you agree! I used to stand, until the first time I went for a pee while wearing shorts. I absolutely felt the splashback and was disgusted and realized that was normally going on my pants and shoes, not to mention the seat and floor. If you want to test yourself (or a stubborn partner), you can line the seat and floor with toilet paper and it should be easier to spot the droplets that it catches.
Load More Replies...I usually sit down to pee, but that's because I'm lazy. You have to aim though still, otherwise you'd soak the underside of the seat and probably the front of the toilet / the floor too!
The best cure for a hangover is to drink less alcohol the previous night. You're welcome.
There was a good post recently about how not being hungover on Sunday feels better than being drunk on Saturday, a game-changing discovery by an adult.
And drink more water. I can drink a considerable amount of alcohol without feeling hungover the next day if I drink an even more considerable amount of water. If I drink a small amount of alcohol without extra water before bed, I'll 100% wake up with a headache.
The best way to survive a car crash is to not drive. The best way to protect your house from being burglarised is to not own anything.
The best way not to choke is not to eat. The best way to not break any bones is to just stay in bed. The best way not to die is to not be alive :)
Load More Replies......and the best remedy to prevent car crashs is not driving a car... In conclusion: You can't die if you don't live... You're welcome.
If getting drunk is as important to you as transportation maybe you should reevaluate your life choices.

Take Dexter's lead and invest in a bone-saw. It's much cleaner and faster than an axe for all your body hacking needs.

If you're feeling depressed and want to boost your mood, fake a smile. Even a fake smile will cause your brain to produce serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins, which will elevate your mood. (I've had clinical depression for 42 years, and this always helps.)
Do it anyways; it really does trigger the brain.
Load More Replies...I work in customer service and 8 hours of fake smiling a day has the opposite effect - i could scream!
Yes, but it has to be a genuine happy smile, with toothy grin and eye wrinkles. Not some hideous zip smile and chin pucker combo, like this supervillain does. CDBECE07-2...47302.jpeg
That works the other way around, too. If you keep your head down (for example while staring at your phone), you get anxious. A behaviour trainer taught that once during a seminar and said she always holds her phone up because of that.
You're so right on this one. Going into the restaurant feeling terrible, first table you have, you just fake a smile and say "Hey folks! How are you doing today? I'm fantastic, thank you for asking!" - it's the most fake thing to do, but the positivity is contagious! Works every time.
if you have that horrible itch in your throat a good way to remove it is to scratch your ear not your throat
Hyaluronic Acid. I first used it in a cream on my face. Then I rubbed some on a bad sunburn. Next morning no peeling, no redness, no pain. I use it on EVERYTHING, cuts, burns, everything. Vets use it in horses' knees to rebuild tissue. Your doctor will give it to you if you need it. It has to be injected into the knee. My vet explained that when you put it on the skin it creates a matrix that skin cells grow on. I never have a cut last longer than one day. Within 24 hours it has closed. I am 75 and use it on my face every day. Use it directly on the skin, then whatever else you need. And you can get it cheap on Amazing.
Now I wonder if it will heal my eczema, or at least kill the itch until I can see a dermatologist. I've tried everything I could find and afford but it gets so bad even the sporadic times I can resist scratching despite all otc creams, lotions, whatever I use. Prescriptions are not always an option, obviously.
I doubt it will "heal" eczema. That is an auto-immune affliction. Putting something on it, will not cure the underlying "event." What is will do, along with biotin, is help the skin heal a little faster, but it will not stop eczema. With my psoriasis I have had EXCELLENT results with cutting out all sugar. Not only has cutting out sugar ended the pain in my knees for psoriatic arthritis, but it has helped slow down and, in some instances, cut out the scaliness. Then the hyaluronic acid helps to rebuild the skin. BTW, cutting out sugar will also help with the itching. Don't expect immediate results. It will slowly get better over several weeks until one day you realize, "hey, it's not as bad."

Load More Replies...If you have a headache, press the skin between your thumb and first finger (the meaty part not the web) press kind of hard, you will feel it as a pain in your hand. Press for about 10 seconds, and slowly release it'll help your headache. Doesn't work for migraines sadly. If the pain is on your right side, do your right hand and vice versa. You can also massage in circles. There are pressure points there that directly correlate to your head. (headaches). Also, if you have a brain freeze, put your thumb up to the roof of your mouth and press lightly and hold there (tongue works too just takes a bit longer) there are nerves there that freeze when you drink something cold quickly and literally send the pain to your head, this defrosts those nerves and the brain freeze will go away quicker.
It doesn’t work for migraines because even though they happen in your head, they’re not actually headaches—they’re blood events. Your brain becomes flooded with blood (I used to get them right before my periods), so the best way to fight them is ice packs. I usually put one on my neck and one on my head.
Ice pack on head/neck and hot water bottle on feet, it takes the edge off a bad migraine
Load More Replies...Pinching there works well for many pains. I use it in the dentist chair too.
hmmm... you may be doing it wrong or in the wrong spot. Don't get me wrong it's not a cure all. Never has it gotten completely rid of headaches, but it helps and sometimes will keep my headaches from reaching migraine status
Load More Replies...For a brain freeze, stay with the tongue method. Please don’t stick your fingers in your mouth unless you have just thoroughly washed your hands.
I would like to hope that A) that's obvious and B) IF you're getting a brain freeze most likely you're eating something anyway that's finger food ish. So it wouldn't matter. So yes please if you're outside laying concrete and take a swig of your cold gatorade, do NOT stick your hands in your mouth lol.

What about if you are naked, without covers and still too hot to sleep?
Wait, wait, wait. So you're telling me that if I'm too warm, I can remove some covers?! Get this person a Nobel prize!!
get this man a learn your abc's book cos there was no mention about removing covers. it really does work better to stick a foot out than it does removing covers

The best pressure point for insomnia is the centre of your temple. Good whack there and you'll sleep for a long time!
I'll try that next time I can't sleep.. .but so far the best cure for insomnia I ever got told (which i've now abandoned tbh cause i'm just a natural night person and retired so don't have to get up for work) is to remove all your electronic s**t like tv, radio, etc from the bedroom and have that as a purely sleep/intimate environment, and if you don't fall asleep within an hour of getting into bed then get out of it and go do something else for a while. It worked most of the time, but didn't when I was awake due to stress at work.
To hold your breath underwater, you should push air bubbles through ur nose. However, only push some every 5 seconds.
I am in between a intermediate in advanced swimmer
does this work for you? I would think that exhaling while trying to hold your breath would be counterproductive, as you exhale some oxygen along with everything else; oxygen you need as you hold your breath. I would recommend exhaling through your nose while upside down to prevent water going up it
Load More Replies...If you have a headache, have an orgasm. Works everytime.
Omg! Yes! Worst migraine of my life and lasted an entire day. It initially felt like someone had cleaved my skill in two!
Load More Replies...Sometimes it works, but a severe headache can also make it difficult to relax enough to have an orgasm at all.
I'm not talking about a chronic migraine or anything. I'm talking about a simple headache. And no, I'm not suggesting to use it as a tentative move to have sex with your partner, that would be very shallow. Mine was a serious answer. If I have an headache and I have an orgasm then the headache is completely gone or at least very mitigated. I don't know if it works only for me, it's not something that I'd want to investigate or inquire about with my friends and colleagues, to be honest...
Can confirm, works for mild headaches or let's say for most minor irritations that keep you from falling asleep.
Load More Replies...Stop yourself from yawning in a meeting by taking low slow breaths through your mouth. I just open my mouth a very small amount like I would if whistling.
Oeh, got a great one for this! Press your tongue up against your palate, hard. Impossible to yawn!
not sure if it actually works for most people (works for me) if you pull on your ears when you feel like you're about to cry it stops you from crying
I wish I knew that this morning, lol. Also, I was happy to see you post again, I was worried you weren't gonna come back
lol. i always come back, don't worry. i just had to turn in my computer for school so i had no way to get on, but my dad bought me a computer so now im back!
Load More Replies...Have you tried to do this to babies? Or do they need to do it themselves?

Load More Replies...If you are afraid you might fall asleep driving, take one shoe and sock off, leaving the other shoe/ sock on (or sandal or whatever), your brain will feel that something is wrong and will sub-consciously keep you more awake. (Although you should pull over and take a walk anyhow!)
Hi Brian bell. I think the concern for me lies in your first sentence 'If you are afraid you might fall asleep driving'. If you are questioning the possibility that you might fall asleep, it's not safe for you or others to consider driving.
Yes, do not drive when fatigue turns to drowsiness. Your judgement regarding your own alertness level, and your reaction times will be severely compromised. Get off the road and arrive alive later.
Load More Replies...I guess you are not driving stick, are you? Driving barefoot (one foot or both) is even illegal here.
Silly as it sounds, pull over at a store and buy some chips or sunflower seeds. Something about eating while driving wakes me right up.
chewing on something helps with that too, so a snack or some gum.
When chopping onions, press your tongue on the roof of your mouth and it will stop the tears!
There is a physiological reflex called the "gastro-colic reflex". Food in the stomach ("gastro" - relating to the stomach) will stimulate increased peristalsis (waves of contractions) in the large intestine ("colic" - relating to the colon). It is especially effective after breakfast. Don't be surprised if you need to go to the toilet (#2) after having a meal. There can be a little delay. This translates to: 1. If you are constipated, trying to go after a meal is the best time to try. 2. Don't have a meal and then rush out of the house onto public transport or into a traffic jam as the chance of needing to use the toilet is high.
When you reach a certain age, a strong coffee in the morning does the trick just fine!
not sure it's really a body hack, but it works great for me. when i wake up, i wait an hour. during which i don't do anything that requires concentration, like talking, studying.. i let my body heat up. By doing this i never feel like a zombie, or agressed in the mornings
Jeanne Calment is known for doing this too

I set two alarms so I can look at my phone and stuff. Ones nice and easy so I don’t die from waking up from a beacon alarm, but the second one is a beacon alarm so I have time to prepare myself before I die. I do downward dog because you need more concentration in trying not to fall asleep while being upside down. Or you can scratch all of this and put some tea tree oil directly in your eyeball 👍🏼 Which I did before (accidentally!!!) rlly wakes you up tho
So to avoid feeling like a zombie, you just do nothing? ...like a a zombie?
i just let my body heat up. as i'm doing nothing i don't feel like a zombie. but if i try to behave like awake straight from the wake up, i'll behave like if i had no brain

Do it for a minute or so, repeat if needed. If you’re in bed & can’t sleep because of thoughts, try tapping one foot against the other, or just wiggling toes/a foot. There is a reputable therapy technique called tapping, it has specific routines to follow - it is very good. This is just my way, and I discovered it after learning and having EMDR in which you using similar techniques to disrupt the brains thought processes - try it!!!
press your tongue to the roof of your mouth, and your thumb between your eyebrows, for about 20-30 seconds. helps with stuffy nose.
Rub eggs in your hair as conditioner. Really good, just use a lot of water. Eggs can also be used as glue, which is pretty awesome.

if you have hiccups, this works every single time. plug your ears and drink a full glass of water through a straw. you might belch, but no more hiccups!
if you have hiccups, go parachute out of a plane. the adrenaline will fix it for you
This is, without a doubt, the most efficient and economical cure for hiccups I've ever seen.

another thing that can help is drinking a full cup of water and then holding your breath
Maybe not a body hack but for your mental well being. Start your day with positive affirmations. It makes for a better day if you start out on a positive note.
If you feel like you’re about to vomit, start humming or trying sniffing some rubbing alcohol.
Vomit, that is a sign that your body is trying to get rid of a harmful substance, vomiting is the only solution. Please don't try to suppress it, it only makes it worse and depending ob what you've ingested, you CAN die!
It's usually not that bad to put off vomiting, and in some cases you absolutely need to. Lots of things that are not harmful cause nausea, so as long as you've not just eaten something sketchy, I don't see it causing problems beyond a cramped stomach. Better to put it off and suffer a stomach ache than to vomit while driving, swimming, etc.
Load More Replies...I vomit if had a sudden stressful event or an injury. My friend who's a nurse told me your brain knows something isn't feeling right with your body so it trys to expel what's in your stomach in case that's the problem. Some people have diarrhea also in these situations
Nurse did the alcohol thing once in a hospital as I was shaking my head not to and I barfed all over her. Definitely doesn't work on me!
You can also try rubbing the joints of your jaw right under your ears. It's worked for me before, but I don't know anyone else who's tried it.
Hi April Caron. Curious, why would you want to stop vomiting? Surely, it's your body wanting to get rid of something that will not be good for you? Yours, s.
Unless driving... can you see it splatting all over the dashboard?
Load More Replies...80% of the people admitted to hospital through Emergency are clinically dehydrated. If I'm feeling stupid and sluggish, a quart of water is a better, healthier, and cheaper alternative to a cup of coffee. Going dry, OTOH, improves focus at first, so I have to keep track and not overdo it.
I think the best way to do that is fruit drink a lot of water and second don't try for the Vitamin Water or the Gatorades that supposedly refresh you better because those are not as good as just water
If you’re ever feeling physically uncomfortable (headache, fatigued, lethargic, whatever), try drinking a full glass of water. Your body could be thirsty (even perpetually so) and you just might not know it because you don’t feel thirsty.
If you have a headache ask someone to slap you and you wont worry about the headache anymore.
Don’t diet, just go on a half-hour or longer walk everyday. Seems to work.
I used to do that, but it made me hungrier, so I ate more , and gained weight.
Hey Pandas, when you feel and hear strange rumblings in your stomach, and have ruled out gas, and major medical problems, try eating. You might just be hungry.
As an aha moment; we rarely ever go through the feeling of our stomachs growling do we? Maybe that should be a diet plan. You don't eat until your stomach starts growling. There would be less covid deaths for sure!
* me, who feels extremely nauseous when hungry * I'll never eat again

If your having trouble getting tired, make yourself yawn 2 times.
after stressful situations, do something relaxing and calming but do not fall asleep. multiple studies have shown that falling asleep soon after a stressful situation heightens the memory of it and increases chances of ptsd.
Nurse here. If you hit or injure any part of your body, quickly rub just above the wound. the nerve fiber that conducts touch is larger than the one that conducts pain, tactile stimuli travel through the spinal cord faster, cutting off the painful sensation. Another body hack: if any part of your body is itchy (dermatites or mosquito bite) try rubbing ice. It works!
conditioner will take off most mascara if it's not waterproof....
Good to know.. next time my g/f puts mascara on me whilst i'm asleep it's going to cost her some of that precious conditioner that she forbids me to use on my beard or pubes cause it's got like eleventy-five organic compounds, one of which being powdered unicorn horns...or so you'd think the way she guards it.
If a smell is about to make you gag humming suppresses the gag reflex.
No, it clears the smell from your nose... Until you have to breathe in again...

I can stop hiccups. When I feel them coming, I put my head down so my chin is on my chest and take long deep breaths through my nose for about a minute. Never fails. If the hiccups have already started, this can work too but you might need to do it longer or a few times.
like i just said, stop breathing, drink a glass of water (without breathing), and keep non breathing for as long as you can. then when you need to breath again, do it without taking large, and fast breath. 100% success

I always ask my kids a question they have to think about and wait for answers. The hiccups usually go away. Not sure why or how it works but it does most of the time. Can't find a public bathroom these days because Covid. To make sure I don't need to number two during the day, I drink a lot of water (different amount for everyone) in the morning to make sure that I need to go before I leave.
If you happen to get an itchy rash from poison ivy, wash the area with an anti-acne face wash (like Neutrogena), then apply a mentholatum rub (like Vick's Vaborub). The itching will be reduced substantially.
Quickest way to ease nausea is to sniff an alcohol swab. Seriously works.
Ginger works better. Mix a spoon of powdered ginger in a glass of water and drink it slowly. Yes, it is kinda fiery, but give it a moment and your nausea will be reduced if it wasn't there for a good reason in the first place. Excellent against motion sickness.
If you have a brain freeze, put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. That should get rid of it.
If you have a headache, check the weather. If there is a tropical storm it is due to pressure changes. Also, if you feel like you might hurl, distract yourself by reading about something you like.

If you feel bloated or suffer from water retention, 1" above your right hand wrist press
And rotate your finger in clockwise and then counter clockwise in sets of 3. Your boating/retention with reduce within minutes.
1) When chopping onions, put a teaspoon in your mouth. 2) Pound a banana into a paste: best hair conditioner ever. 3) Drink 4 drops of peppermint oil in a good sip of water against irritable bowel. 4) Lavender oil is reported to relax and ease insomnia. 5) If nauseous, sleep on your left side. Apparently, this relaxes the internal organs while sleeping on your right puts all your weight on them. And finally: 1) If allergic to peanuts: do not eat peanuts. 2) If you have an unwanted erection, just wait 40 years.
If you don't want to cry, squeeze the very top part of your nose, the bit between your eyes. It just seems to stop the tears from forming.
1. Root Beer for soar throats 2. Ginger Ale for upset stomachs 3. Vinegar. Serves two purposes. First, if you get a muscle cramp, drink a shot of vinegar (dill pickle juice will work too, but vinegar has less salt.) Second, drink a shot of vinegar or eat some pickles when dining on seafood...especially raw fish. It protects your body from the effects of food poisoning (most of the time.) 4. If you have a headache on top of your head or in the back of your head, it's vascular. Caffeine can help get rid of it. Coffee is better than soda because the sugar in soda may add to the headache...especially if you are diabetic. 5. If your headache is behind your eyes, it's allergy related. Drink hot liquids with mint in it and take a warm damp wash cloth, close your eyes and lay it over your eyes and the bridge of your nose with your head tilted back. Leave it there for until the heat is gone. If your headache continues or your sinuses sting, go see a doctor..you may have a sinus infection. 6. If you see your kids tugging on their ears and having a hard time swallowing, take them to the doctor. They likely have an ear infection. I got more, but will leave it there for now.
Sore throats..Sore. Geez. I may know some remedies but my spelling sucks today.
For menstruators - Drink plenty of water during your periods. It improves the flow, reduces bloating and generally lessens cramps.

If you’re choking on liquid, soft food etc. (Not actually suffocating) raise your arms up above your head. It opens up your airways helping you to breathe easier and cough less
If you have an important event the next day and fear your hands will sweat just rub some antiperspirant on your hands the night before. Your hands will stay cool and dry.
If you have minor skin rashes or dermatitis, instead of very expensive pharmacy creams 2 things work really well. A swim in salt water if you live near the sea or a mixture of very salty water on your skin. OR a mild bleach solution in warm water. Very effective and basically free.
If your stomach is upset, try firmly massaging your abdomen in a clockwise direction.
We do this to people as nurses when we are trying to help patients move poop and gas through their intestines. Just it should be moldy firm BUT gentle and never to be done if a person is suspected of a real blockage or something more serious going on. I wouldn’t call that an upset stomach though. I suppose since it helps move everything through it may also help Empty your stomach.
I read in a yoga book to massage clockwise, but see a site that says CCW. CW has always worked for me, but maybe CCW is better?
Does it make a difference if you live closer to the North pole or the South pole?
I think it's the same whether you're looking down at your own stomach or at someone else's. So for you, you start upper right under the liver, move to upper left by the stomach, then down to lower left, then lower right, then back to upper right. If you're looking at someone else, the rights and lefts are reversed from your perspective, but the direction is the same.

It can also lead to fainting so please don’t try this at home, your smarter than that.

This is taught by mental health professions to have patients trigger this to stop an anxiety attack. To do so, told an ice pack under your eyes. Take slow deep breaths. I’ve never heard any professional say it’s not safe to try at home, and I have a condition that causes very low BP. Anyways, just do it sitting or laying down then I guess but it does work and it’s often taught.
For anxiety try standing barefoot on a cold surface for a few minutes. Sipping very cold water may help also.
If you have stomach acid, drink some milk, eat a yogurt, or anything dairy. It coats the esophagus and stomach and will help reduce the burning feeling. Also, if you have acid reflux, never sleep on your right side because it allows your stomach to be above your esophagus, giving it an easier passage way for the acid to flow.
I have severe acis reflux and a physical condition called schatzki's ring, which is a narrowing of the esophagus. Dairy products don't 'coat' any part of your gastrointestinal tract. The gastrointestinal tract is very acidic, nothing can coat it. If that was the case there would be no need for acid reflux medications and proton pump inhibitors. Please do some research before posting false statements. There are so many that suffer and we need help, not fantasy.
Not everyone eats dairy as well! I find having an apple helps if I have acid reflux, of course it's not a serious condition, that must be awful!

You will burp a lot, but the acid will be neutralized and the cold water will move it through your digestive system faster.
You actually want your esophagus to be higher than your stomach, it's often recommended to raise the top of your bed/mattress to sleep. Gravity is your friend, it's harder for the acid to go uphill so to speak.
If you ever need to measure your foot to buy shoes or wonder if they'd fit but don't want the hassle of taking your shoes and socks off, your foot is exactly as long as the distance between your inner elbow and wrist (go on, you want to try it...)
No, it is not. I just tried it ant my foot is way smaller than that. It would be weird for everyone on earth to end up exactly the same result. Nice try.
My feet don't even have the same size, there is nearly 1 cm difference between the two, so...

There isn't always a toilet to go to.

It will even reduced subdermal abcesses, or would draw them to the surface and begin draining. Gave some to a friend for confirmed MRSA, he'd been on antibotics for a month with no results. Manuka honey cleared it up within a week.
