Our neighbor had a 15 year old white dog (i forget the breed) who had leg problems and they had to put her down because she had trouble getting up and would fall. :-( Always sad to lose a pet even if it is not yours.

I love horses too, was hoping to see a senior horse on this list, because I know a few (including a 40+ Shetty). But if I understand this is a therapy horse, right? He hasn't PTSD himself, correct? And he doesn't look old either. So... sorry, but he doesn't actually fit in this list.

I adopted Seb when he was (around) 3. His hair was long and incredibly matted, he had untreated eye damage, and elbow dysplasia. He's now 6(ish), and the happiest dog I've ever known. Nothing gets him down and he loves everyone ❤️

We lost her in November of 2021. She'd been with our family since she was 4 weeks old. We were at a graduation party in a park when a little girl walked up with a sweet black and white poof ball in a tomato crate. She said her mom told her "nice people go to graduation parties." My mom didn't want her until other people were interested - then, she grabbed the little baby and said she'd give her a good home. Mea stayed by my dad's side until he passed away on the fourth of July, 2011. My husband and I brought her home with us thereafter, and she enjoyed 10 more years with us. She played soccer, ran faster than border collies, walked her own dang self at the leash-off dog park, helped me when I had seizures...in short, was a far better dog than we deserved. I am so grateful for the time we had with her 💔♥️

He was the last little ear-mite infested little baby in a bin marked (gulp) "spare kittens" - we think they were going to be used as food for exotic animals 😢 He got his name because he was on the road (insert groan here, I know).

I need to be blunt because this is something that really triggers me. 1. This goldfish is actually a young adult since fancy goldfish like them can live to be fifty years old in a decent tank. 2. If you're goldfish dies young it's probably your fault! They are very smart and hardy creatures but putting them in a bowl is the equivalent of you living your entire life in your bathroom. You can never leave for anything, no one cleans it and you depend on someone else to remember to feed you. Next time you get a pet, any pet. No matter how small do some research!!! Remember, they are living creatures who can feel pain, fear and happiness.

That is true, I know fish can get really old when taken good care of. I added mine because he is at an age not a lot of people see their fish grow and he has a lot of signs of old age. I think it depends on the fish, but definitely on the person too! TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR PETS!! Still, I think that owning a pet doesn't mean you have to stress about wether you're a good owner or not. With Nemo, we went with the flow and changed something if we thought it needed change (like getting a bigger tank or refreshing the plants). "Take good care of an animal" doesn't mean "take perfect care of an animal", because that is simply not possible.

He broke both bones in his arm. He has a whole limb of plates and screws. Worst of all, he has to be separated from his friends for two months and be sedated to stay calm and allow it to heal.

She's on meds for severe allergies, arthritis and incontinence. She isn't deaf, but her hearing is getting worse. Still the sweetest, happiest girl, and my very best friend. I hope we have many happy, adventurous years to come!

We're still working on learning to trust. She came from a rough place so hands coming toward her a still a little scary. It takes a pig a long time to recover from a negative experience. My younger pigs all know how to spin for treats though. I know Ivy girl would pick that up in a second because she's easily the smartest pig in the yard. 😊

Please don't ignore health issues because of old age. Yes, arthritis and heart problems often come wirh age, but there is no reason a living being should have pain walking or standing up. A good vet knows how to help.

You have such a kind heart. Thank you for the good advice. We always talked with the vet about nutritional add-ins to prevent tooth loss and pain rather than playing catch-up after tooth loss and pain started, and I really think it made a big difference in Mea's vitality and longevity. She made it to 18.5 without losing a single adult tooth. She did break a tiny toe, requiring a cast, after rolling over her soccer ball.

You have 5 YEAR OLD fish?? How??? I can't keep a fish alive for more than like 2 1/2 and I do literally everything I can think of to keep them healthy and happy. Last fish I had was doing great right up until the day I came home and he had literally jumped out of his bowl and unalived himself. I was so freaking bummed I haven't had another fish since.

Holly is about 12:years old( not sure she was rescued) She had to have some of her teeth out not long ago. My partner died in January this year and she is the only thing that has kept me going. She has been by my side ever since( she was his dog) got though it together

She is. She was found injured as a small kitten but a great local rescue took her in. She can hold her own against her two 'brothers' (another tripawd and a wobbly kitty) and takes no nonsense. She doesn't seek affection but loooves being petted - this photo is just before she rolled on to her back to have her belly rubbed.

The previous owner beat her and abandoned her. She ended up in a shelter. I took her and fell in love with her. I had her two hind legs operated on - I spent the annual bonus from work for it $(after this beating, the paws got together badly). She is my treasure and I love her <3 so even 3 times is not enough

I wrote a description of him but can.t find it:0 He really has saved my life 3 times. Once, about 3 am, he would not stop sorta swatting me in the face. He´d never done this. I became irritated, opened the door to let him out and saw the entire house was in flames. The previous owner beat her and abandoned her. She ended up in a shelter. I took her and fell in love with her. I had her two hind legs operated on - I spent the annual bonus from work for it $(after this beating, the paws got together badly). She is my treasure and I love her <3 so even 3 times is not enough

This may sound silly, but it's such an honor to live with these incredible animals. Aging and varying degrees of ability are so scary for humans sometimes. We have so much to learn from our pets who take it all in stride and are continually excited for every new day and the opportunity to be loved. We should all be so full of life.
