Finding out that your partner cheated on you can upend your entire world and break your heart. Some people take a break from dating and relationships to heal. Others immediately jump back into meeting new people to forget their heartache. But some bide their time to get petty revenge against their exes.

Case in point, u/sdarnold2017heisman amused the r/pettyrevenge online community with a tale about how he got back at his cheating ex by messing with her college class schedule. Scroll down for the story in full, as well as to see how the internet reacted. Bored Panda has reached out to the author via Reddit, and we’ll update the article once we hear back from him.

Why someone chooses to be unfaithful comes down to a broad range of possible reasons

It’s impossible to say for certain why someone cheated on their partner unless you know them, their character, and their circumstances. Some people are unfaithful because they’re sexually or emotionally frustrated and dissatisfied.

Others might feel neglected, overlooked, or rejected, so they look to others for physical and emotional comfort. Or they feel angry and might want to ‘punish’ their partner for something they did or did not do.

Still, others cheat because they simply have the opportunity to do so. Or they have very low self-esteem and want to prove to themselves that they’re attractive, so they cheat to boost their confidence.

Moving on after a bad breakup is hardly ever easy. But a strong social network made up of your family and friends can be a huge help. It really makes a difference when you know that you’ve got some trustworthy people in your corner.

They can provide you with some rock-solid emotional support, give you advice on what to do next, and help distract you when you’re feeling blue.

Cheating is fairly common. Emotional affairs—even more so

However, if the breakup was a monumental one, you may want to consider seeking a therapist’s services.

Mental health professionals can provide very different perspectives from the people you know. They can be more objective, they’ll never judge you, and they’ll reframe your experiences so you can gain more confidence and heal.

Of course, therapy isn’t like waving a magic wand that suddenly solves all of your problems in life. It’s a lot of hard, uncomfortable work with your emotions, assumptions, and thought processes. A therapist guides and advises you, but they won’t do the work for you.

According to Tech Report, 16% of married couples admitted that they were unfaithful to their spouse at ‘some point’ in their marriages. Among those who cheated, a third did so with someone from their work environment.

Emotional affairs are even more common in work environments, with nearly two-thirds of them happening there. 77% of men admitted that they’ve engaged in emotional affairs, while that number stood at 91% for women.

Unpopular opinion but hill I'm willing to die on: being petty is not a flex.

That's one thing. The other thing is "computer fraud is an easy to prove crime, not a petty prank"; sleeping around breaks no laws, messing with somebody's education accreditation from your personal IP address is illegal and blatant.

So he decided to potentially ruin his ex' future job chances just for a petty revenge thing? Don't get me wrong, cheaters are absolute s**t, but this isn't any better

I don't disagree because there was a chance she wouldn't be able to enroll in the classes she needed. But let's relax on saying it would "potentially ruin her future job chances" because her one quarter or semester MIGHT have been a little off schedule.
