The horrific mass shooting at a school in Parkland, Florida, has reignited protests for meaningful political action in the United States. According to Quinnipiac Poll, an independent, non-partisan public opinion poll, currently 66% of American voters support stricter gun laws, and it's the highest level ever measured. People are expressing their thoughts about these issues all over the internet, and some are resonating with the public so much, Bored Panda has decided to compile them into a list.

From brutally honest jokes to interesting insights, the entries below will certainly stir your thoughts about the uncomfortable debate American society needs to have. Scroll down to check them out, and upvote your favorites!

I live in Canada. Strict gun laws. Guess how many mass gun related school shootings we have had? None. Zero. AustrAlia- also strict gun laws. Again...guess how many mass casualty school shootings they've had?? None. This is simple math folks. The ARCHAIC argument of "guns don't kill ppl! Ppl kill ppl" is so stale I lose IQ points every time I hear it.

I don't believe you, but even so, you still have murders, don't you? Possibly some that could have been prevented had the victim had a gun?

When I was in school fifty years ago we lived in a country town and yes students brought there hunting rifles on gun racks in the back of there pickups. No one ever thought about getting angry at someone and going in and shooting people in school. What are they teaching in school or what is happening to cause any one to want to shoot someone in school ?

In my very own personal opinion (tm), I think we spent more time outside playing in the sun, in smaller towns where more kids played together, spending less time ostracizing others. We were encouraged to include each other and listen to one another, especially in the younger grades. We didn't spend so much time alone with electronics. Teachers were respected (again, in smaller towns) and were able to spend more time with us rather than spending their money to provide supplies. With more time alone, using electronics, some kids become separated. Teachers have fuller classrooms and have less time to get to know their students and are less able to root out the ones who are ostracized. Those who are ostracized find others who are and they feed on each other's loneliness and sadness. And parents are so busy trying to keep financially afloat, they don't always see what their own kids are going through. Again, my personal opinions only... your mileage may vary.

In December 2012, a gunman walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed 20 children, six adults, and himself. Since then, there have been at least 1,606 mass shootings, with at least 1,829 people killed and 6,447 wounded as of February 2018. In the developed world, these levels of gun violence are a uniquely American problem. Here’s why. America is an exceptional country when it comes to guns. It’s one of the few countries in which the right to bear arms is constitutionally protected. For people who believe the empirical evidence that more guns mean more violence, this contradiction is the source of a lot of frustration. Americans by and large support policies that reduce access to guns. But once these policies are proposed, they’re broadly spun by politicians and pundits into attempts to “take away your guns.” So nothing gets done, and preventable deaths keep occurring.

When I was growing up it was 1/3 less populated then it is now which meant there was less competition. On top of that the work load and the expectations put on the kids today is literally insane. They were teaching my daughter things in high school that I didn't learn until I was in college. Then you add the social media c**p that goes on 24 hrs a day. We would get off the bus and play or watch TV to unwind from whatever stress that day had brought and then have dinner. Kids don't have time to be kids anymore

USA IS sick from the NRA this lobby couldn't care less of human or wildlife. The only thing counts is $$$, this is the real god. Having Joker as the president wild killing sprees will continue since this mad man only believes in money and his social standard. All the rest is irrelevant. Once that the citizens of this country become aware of who they have elected maybe things will move in the right direction. Is it not the Republican part2that is against abortion, yet selling arms to anybody is OK? WHAT a very mad and sick way to see the worth of human and wildlife. Was it not a member of this lobby that killed a very rare and protected black maned lion? Aren't they not also the same that pay up 50000 $ to kill African elephants, gorrilas, rhinoceros, cheetahs. They are the same people that are racist too. How can a country that proud itself as being "America first" continue to be so blind?

Unfortunately, the 1% that is in control prefers money for killing and suffering. Obviously, right ? Why else would they keep torturing innocent people in GITMO ? Why not have a class on guns in school and teach the kids about guns has anyone ever thought about that hold the parents more responsible for the actions of their kids what happen to discipline their respect my dad whipped my a*s when I was growing up and I turned out just fine I no right from wrong and these kids that do these things no right from wrong they just have never been disciplined or punished for their actions in the past because their parents were probably scared to whip their a*s thinking they would get locked up I told my little girl about guns when she was young she was shooting guns with me when she was five and six years old that's what I think we should teach kids about the guns just like you teach him about sex and drugs why I try to hide it from him politically correct b*******

Blaming the Republicans Fl.? What I have gathered so far on the Shooting: It was a failure to act from the local school and finally to the FBI. The school could have had the student arrested long before the shooting for threating others with a knife (a felony under Fl. Law) but their do not arrest the student policies came first. When informed that the student had threatened to shoot up the school they did nothing about it. The Sheriff deputy’s paid over 30+ visits to his home and didn’t put this guy under a ATF do not sell list. Add the FBI that failure to do squat when reported to them. Once the shooting started, 4 deputies’ fails to go in. Only cower behind their cars until officers from a nearby town came and entered the school with newly arrived officers. Shooter almost got away, but the out of town officer saw a guy who meet the description and stopped him. The Democrat Sheriff now says he does a good job. Placed the blame on the NRA, gun owners and trump. That will fix it.

no, thats not the point, the point is that people are more concerned about children that haven't even been born or finished developing (developing as much as you can while in the womb anyways) than they are about children that have already been born

I can confirm this is true, liberals want to abort all the children, ALL. OF. THEM. No seriously though liberals don't want to abort all the children, they just want women to be able to abort a child if they choose to. That's why there's a term called pro choice and not a term that's just pro abortion

I'm sorry, but there were a number of 'certain people' who were afraid that 'if ' Obama 'did' anything he would take their guns. And then he would lead a giant army of drugged up black youth on a mass raid of helpless 'Certain people'. Imagine, a sitting president of the United States in camo, stalking through the suburbs shooting up gorgeous houses. So, they redoubled their gun purchases.

A kid should never have to worry about such a thing. Yet still, this is really happening. Heart-breaking. I think if I had a child and was in this situation, I couldn't hold up my brave parent face and would have broken down crying, that my baby is thinking about things like this. It even hurts me that a child I do not even know, is thinking about things like this.

Australians don't know whether to laugh or cry. We are horrified by what we are hearing. Since gun control was enacted back in the 1990s we have NOT HAD ONE MASS SHOOTING! Domestic shootings have crashed and now, pretty much the only people with illegal guns are the criminals who will get them no matter what we do. Only Australians legally allowed guns are defence force personnel (and not in public) police (in public) farmers (only on their farm) security guards (only on the armoured vehicle) commercial shooters (only in their trucks) sporting shooters (only at the gun club/rifle range). Police here check their gun owners in their own districts every two years and every single licensed gun has to be accounted for and the storage comply with regulations - gun and ammo separately kept.

I know it can be unpopular. I’m from Brazil, where guns aren’t easily purchased as in USA. I’m against such an easy way to get your hands on powerful guns, but the problem is more deep rooted. The true problem is not the guns. The true problem is that a person have a killing will in his heart. Are we ignoring the fact that someone -wanted- to kill a lot of teenagers? Why? There is more than just guns wrong in United States. There is killings with knives and rocks too. We need to work on creating children that don’t want to kill others. A society that doesn’t let violence grow. Armed or not.

Teens. You don't know the amount of havoc the power of angry, well-spoken teenagers can create. These kids are the future of America.

I agree and share the same brain.... call me insane , I will not kill a single soul unless they ban gun-control , here in Holland where I live I survived every school easily because no-one was pointing a gun at me but no matter how high you go up there , there's never a curved horizon to see I swear....

Better yet, send all those who so staunchly protect their 2nd amendment to Afghanistan. They can prove that having a gun betters your odds to staying alive against others with guns. Once I see how they fare, maybe I'll change my mind.

Um RaY1, is there a self esteem issue you have ? Small hands? Small cerebrum? Just small ..uh..issues that a gun makes you feel 'protected'?
