Grandma Who Accidentally Invited A Stranger To Thanksgiving Spends Third Thanksgiving With The Teen

With all the discord and divisiveness in the world, the Thanksgiving holiday can provide the perfect stage to bring us all together – the story of Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench is the perfect example of random acts of kindness.
For those who don’t remember, in 2016, Hinton (17-years-old at the time) received a wrong number text from Dench inviting him to a family Thanksgiving dinner.
Here’s Justin, the real grandson, and his girlfriend Amanda
And Jamal actually went to go grab that plate
Since the heartwarming story first broke, Dench, has named Hinton as her ‘honorary grandson,’ which is quite fitting. In an interview with the Arizona Republic last year, Dench said, ‘It was nice having everybody here, we got to laugh about last year and reminisce about how it all blew up on our phone and how I had to change my number. We had a laugh and a good time.” Hinton found the dinner meaningful, as well. “The world is becoming a better place than it used to be,’ he said in 2017, “With all the Donald Trump going on and all the racial comments going on, it’s kind of good to remember the Thanksgiving traditions and see there are still good people out there,’ he said at the time.” Dench gave her new ‘grandson’ an open invitation for all future Thanksgivings at her house, so we foresee this tradition living on.
Three years later, Hinton and Dench still have family time together. Hinton posted their annual picture together this year with the caption: “2016, 2017…… 2018,” adding that he promised to post a video he filmed with Dench and her husband on Friday.

I am not American. I live in Europe. But for me that's the real meaning and purpose of Thanksgiving!
mulk, What J said. ^^ It's nice to see someone truly understanding the meaning.
I totally agree, as an european...

My Mom died 3 weeks ago. My only other family here (sister and niece) both worked Thanksgiving Day. A coworker of mine knew i would be alone, so she invited me to her house with her husband, granddaughter and another couple. I made new friends yesterday. Warms my heart typing this.
Very sorry to read about your mom. 💞
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been there. ~hug~
My mother-in-laws first Christmas without her mother was a very hard one. She figured the best remedy was to get the whole family together so she sent us tickets to fly from WA to VA. We spent 2 weeks there having a blast. She was grateful to have the company. She died in 2014 and my husbands first Christmas without her was a hard one. I suggested that all of the brothers..(my husband is the oldest of three..no sisters) get together and celebrate their mother's life by talking about all the impact she made on everyone around her. It helped all of them get through that first year. Sometimes the best way to combat missing someone close to you is to surround yourself with the people that are still here that you care about.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your mom. My grandma died about one week before, so I know how it feels right now. In Romania we have a custom of having a memorial service and dinner that's done 40 days after someone dies, and in this case the whole thing was held at my grandma's apartment. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Romania, but my grandma's dinners were always the closest things we got as kids to what we saw in American movies as the typical "Thanksgiving" - turkey (my grandma loved turkey and was a great cook) and just hanging out as a family. It somehow seems fitting that the last one almost coincided with Thanksgiving. I'll miss her.
May your mother rest in peace <3
I'm so sorry for your mom, rest in piece *internet hugs*
So sorry about your mom, but lucky to have many years of loving memories. And you must be very grateful for that special invitation to Dinner. What a great way to say "Thanks".
I love this story and I'm glad they do this, still, every year!
