Girl Starts To Look Like An Alien Due To Swelling Head, Does Nothing Until Her Eyes Almost Swell Shut
Angioedema is a form of severe swelling beneath the skin’s surface, one that may be accompanied by hives and itching. Although angioedema can be dangerous when the swelling is severe and occurs near the throat, the condition is usually harmless and it will disappear on its own within a few days. It’s caused by an allergic reaction to something like food or medication, or, in this tragically hilarious case, grass and wheat.
Poor Caitlyn was at Kendall Calling, a popular music festival in England’s spectacular Lake District. She was sharing a tent with some friends, enjoying the laughs and good times when her allergies began to kick in and her swollen face began reaching epic proportions. Luckily, her buddies were there to document the whole process – from hammerhead shark to elephant man.
The story – told in a gloriously descriptive Twitter thread by Caitlyn’s friend Rhiannon – has since gone viral with people loving that very British manner of cheekily ‘taking the piss’ among a group of close mates. Because yeah, she’s got a big head with eyes swollen shut. Her wheat allergy is no threat, it looks funny as hell and she’s got a good sense of humor about it. What else is there to do but laugh?

Share on FacebookThis is really irresponsible and inconsiderate of her friends, they'd rather party on than go to A&E immediately (considering the severity of this allergic reactions, she was not far from septic shock - a life-threatening immune overreaction). Hope she found better friends in the meantime.
You probably meant anaphylactic shock, not septic.
Load More Replies...My husband has idiopathic angioedema so no known source for any time he 'swells up'. If she knew what she was dealing with the only thing she could have done is left before the swelling continued to progress - it wasn't going to go down while she was still exposed to the allergen. If she thought it was she clearly isn't up to speed with how this works, nurse or not. It could have worsened to the point where it affected her tongue/throat and subsequently her breathing. Antihistamines don't miraculously sort out angioedema when it's reached this stage. It doesn't affect the brain btw.
How did she (or anyone) know this wasn't affecting her brain as well?? Lucky girl that she's ok!
How is this funny? How can anyone laugh at this? Nevermind the "friends", why didn't the woman show any concern for her own health and leave for the hospital immediately? I remember one time when I was out with some people camping (I'm not saying friends, because I didn't know them very well) and one guy started drowning. Another guy pulled him out of the water, but as soon as he regained consciousness, everyone was like, "oh, he's ok now, no harm done" and just continued doing whatever they had been doing. I was completely blown away by their irresponsible behaviour and insisted we called the ambulance, even though others insisted that it was unnecessary. Me and a few other people called the ambulance and they took him to the hospital, because the guy had experienced hypothermia. Luckily, he was fine, but I lost my faith in those people and knew I didn't want to become friends with any of them because I knew that I just wouldn't be able to rely on them if I experienced any trouble.
This is so stuid, why are people so stupid! She should've gone to the hospital as soon as her head started to swell! Those are not "friends" and is even more irresponsible for letting them treat her like that. There's really nothing to laugh about.
Why is this a thing? My face swelled up two summers ago. I had to get shots and oral steroids for a week. Why didn't I get a board panda post about it? Oh that's right, because it's mundane nonsense.
This line pisses me off: "Luckily, her buddies were there to document the whole process" No no no. This is exactly wht is a big problem with our society now. They should not have been taking pictures for social clicks. If she mattered to them at ALL they would have taken her to a DR or ER a lot sooner than that, allergies or no. Its c**p like this that we ended up with 'influencers'.
I'm surprised at all of the negative reactions here. It's really only an emergency if her mouth, tongue, throat became swollen which you would know. She could feel it was on the top of her head and eyes, so no, not the mouth area. She was taking antihistamines per the article so she was doing exactly what they would have done had she gone to the hospital. IF she started to feel anything around her mouth, then I'd say she needs to go the hospital. She was fine y'all. It looks worse than it really is. My background? Clinical Pharmacist. Seen angioedema many times. She would t have even been admitted at that point. They would have given her some antihistamines like Benadryl and sent her home telling her to come back if it worsened and she felt like she couldn't breathe.
Totally agree. People panic and go to a hospital far too often for things that are minor. She probably should have gone home though - who knows at what point the allergy would have stopped progressing all the time she was exposed to the allergens. A hospital visit isn't necessary unless the ability to breathe is compromised.

She will make a lovely house wife? Well, it certainly doesn't sound as if she is capable of a job that earns decent money, so I guess, kept wife is all she's going for. (Also, who is manning that A&E tent??)
Not very responsible friends or herself. She's a nurse? She needs to go get some more training
I see. So your head starts swelling and you choose to stay because staying is more important than getting medical help before it gets worse.
INSTAGRAM DOES WONDERS , ITS LIKE THEY DIFFERENT PEOPLE OOOOHHH WAIT !!!
It's an allergic reaction. One that she could have solved by going home and away from the allergens.
Load More Replies...Lol this reminds me of my allergy reaction. My throat was getting numb and I figured ok it's not closing I'm alright then my tongue. Then my lip went numb. Then it started to swell. Hmm ok maybe if I sleep it off. As I walk down the stairs my swollen lips started bouncing lol then I figured maybe I should go to the emergency room now.
to the friends saying she needs a man... F**K that i'm not giving my child b******t genes
That's actually a thing in China or one of those Asian countries. Its called a Donut Head. They pump saline or something close to that in their head and then press gently in the middle and it creates a donut-look on their forehead.
If she knew what she was doing she would have gone home. She didn't need a hospital, just some common sense.
