It's one thing to make an edgy joke when you're with friends, but completely next level to put it on a sign in public. Yet some people, including business owners, have both the wit and the courage to try it and pull it off.

Mocking rude past customers in order to attract new ones... Teasing current employees... Nothing is off-limits if you know how to go about it. And don't worry—your joke won't be lost even when you have to take down the sign. If it's really good, someone will surely take a picture of it and upload the image to the r/FunnySigns subreddit. With over 143,000 members, it's a catalog of some of the best signs, billboards, and warnings out there. Continue scrolling and check out some of its most popular posts to date.

These signs definitely have a lot of personality. And it's precisely what people and businesses want from them. Sick and tired of chain culture slowly making all high streets look the same, many city shops are returning to handpainted signs. It's estimated that there are about 300 full-time signwriters working in the UK alone.

As young graphic designers and artists are making their way into the industry, signwriting enthusiast Sam Roberts said that: "This is a generation that has grown up with computers at the heart of their work and who are seeking to engage with the physical processes that go into producing letter forms."

The subreddit r/FunnySigns is an old one—it was created all the way back in 2012. With 143,000 members, it's neither big nor small. However, I feel that it's going to remain relevant. After all, people want to be individual, to stand out. And creating a good sign achieves just that.

Most of the stuff from my docs gets emailed or it's printed off the computer. Hopefully it's going to become less and less of an issue.

This would have been true once, but isn't everything printed on the computer now?

As of today, maybe--but I doubt it. Unless they wander around with laptops, somebody's got to input the scribbled notes. The hospital I worked at 30 years ago had boxes the doctors could check off to minimize just this.

That's my experience these days. My surgery texts, emails prescriptions and instructions direct to pharmacies and hospitals. They were heading that way anyway and covid gave them the final push.

They actually take classes to write like that--and pharmacists take classes to read it. Early encryption.

Why though? Can't they just write normal? Lol. I never understood why all doctors scribble like that, one person to misread the writing & the patient now can be dead, so if anything all writing should be legible . Plus then Noone has to take extra classes to learn how to read that writing 😄

I used to read doctors' handwriting as part of my job. I think I could have read this back then. Looks serious.

They all write that way. Don't know how pharmacists can read the prescriptions.

I wish I never learned cursive from my father. He is a doctor. I can't read my own writing.

She should've left him in a car with the window cracked, some food and water, and games on his phone.
