35 Fox Pics That Show What Wonderful Creatures They Are
They’re fluffy. They’re foxy. And we’re not entirely sure how to describe the sounds they make. Can you guess what they are? That’s right—foxes! We believe that these gorgeous animals don’t get enough of our attention. Sure, dogs and cats are amazing but there’s a certain nous ne savons quoi that foxes bring to the table.
We want to make your week awesome and to fill you up with positive vibes. That’s why our animal-loving Bored Panda team has collected this wholesome list of full of photos of foxes being all funny and cute. Scroll down, upvote your faves, and share which pics you liked the most in the comments. Oh, and be sure to let everyone know if you figured out what foxes actually do say (we’re still a bit lost even after Ylvis’ song!). If you still need some wholesome foxy goodness, check out other posts about baby foxes and artistic fox photos.
Bored Panda reached out to the team at Help Wildlife, a British charity-run advice website dedicated to helping the public know what to do when faced with a wild animal that may need help, to learn more about foxes. “Foxes are very smart, probably a similar level of 'smartness' to dogs. They're not, despite the common perception, especially cunning though. Like dogs, they're really playful and can often be seen playing with random objects much like a dog plays with toys,” founder Sarah told us. Scroll down for our full interview with her!

Baby Foxes Found In An NJ Backyard
“If you spot a fox in the wild, the best thing is just to consider yourself blessed and admire them from a distance. It's never a good idea to try and pet or tame a wild animal,” Sarah from Help Wildlife warned us. “It's ok to put a little food out sometimes but it's best not to let them associate people with food or to feed them so much or so often that they become dependent on you.”
Sarah also spoke to us about the possibility of catching some icky disease when being around wildlife: “With any animal there will be a certain amount of crossover between diseases they can get and diseases humans can get. What really determines the level of risk is how much contact you have with them, since any disease needs close proximity to be transmitted really.”
She continued: “So as long as you treat foxes as the wild animals they are and leave them alone, there is virtually no risk of you catching anything from them.”

Baby Foxes Showed Up To Say Hi At My Grandmother’s House
Let’s get to know foxes even better, shall we? For example, if you want to leave an impression on your friends, the next time you’re outside and you spot a group of foxes, you can tell ‘em, “Hey, that’s a skulk (or a leash) of foxes watching us right there.” +5 easy points to your favorite Hogwarts house, guaranteed.
Our foxy friends have whiskers on their faces, that’s no secret. But something that might just blow your mind is the fact they also have whiskers on their legs! Foxes use ‘em to navigate and find their way in tall grass.
There’s no doubt that foxes tails are beautiful but they’re not just for show. They’re multifunctional. Their tails help them keep their balance when they’re chasing down their dinner. What’s more, foxes use their tails to communicate with other cute foxes. Though we don’t know what they talk about for sure, we’d like to imagine that they compliment each others tails with their tails. And they wrap themselves up in their floofy tails to stay warm while sleeping. How cute is that? Very!

Foxes can climb trees and sometimes settle in their lower branches. They also have night vision like cats do. Furthermore, their hearing is excellent: red foxes have been reported to hear watches ticking from 40 yards (36.6 meters) away. That’s always useful for city-dwelling foxes to keep the time and to hear if any hoomans are getting close to them.
These animals have a varied diet that changes depending on their environment. However, red foxes are omnivores, as a rule. So they’ll gobble up everything that’s in their way, from roots and fruits to rodents, ribbety froggos, and even fish.

I have a couple of foxes that hang around my yard. I love them to bits! But you must remember they are wild animals, not pets. Do not feed them under any circumstances! They can get used to that so very quickly. Don't leave shoes etc out side. Foxes are thieves and never miss a chance to walk away with something. I found out about that the hard way. If left to their own devices, Foxes will insure that your not bothered by rats or other pesky vermin. And they are so damn handsome they just look good on any property.
I wish many in the UK would see that there are positives to having foxes. Sadly many of them see them as pests that should be killed or removed. The mama fox I have that visits has had her whole world turned upside down since our local council introduced wheelie bins. Her food source went right down and she got very thin as a result so the fox welfare society told us to feed her occasionally. So we do. Some guy has moved in to the house which is next to her den and he's threatened to poison her because he hates foxes so I'm constantly on edge about her. He just moved in and yet the fox has been there three years and her mum before that and her grandmother. IMO I feel like She has more rights to be there than him. I found this guy trampling all over the top of her den knowing she had cubs in there. He absolutely didn't care that he could be killing them. I was horrified. So I'm trying to find out who the wildlife police officer is in my area but Covid-19 means it's not a priority.
He needs to be reported to the SPCA. They can direct you.
My dad had a neighbor who loved his mama fox and her kits. He wanted her because the fox would hunt the various rodents who would burrow into the water ditches. If the side washed out he would have a mess. The fox had a den on his property. If the rodents got sparse and she was looking in need , he would put out dog food for her and the kits.
A very sad story, the man who wants to harm the fox, makes me livid, furious, if someone dislikes an animal, is no reason to hurt them, I wish I had an answer for you, if the den is destroyed, the fox will move on, at least it would be safe, if it moves on, good luck !!!
I think you ought to do a little stomp on that guys face :)
I wonder: does the Brit hatred of foxes have anything to do with fox hunting? When I lived over there I noticed that almost no one thinks they're cute.
I love it! 🥰
I occasionally see foxes in my backyard, and it is always for a few seconds. They are very good at hiding and don’t want to be seen. One night around 2 am, I hear a noise outside and I look out the window to see a mother fox and two kits playing. It was so beautiful, and the most adorable thing.
I've a mama fox who comes by regularly and chills outside under the kitchen window. She brings her cubs to meet us each year. Check my insta for pictures and videos @tiffers1981 . Her cubs from last year have grown and gone now but she has some new babies now.
They are adorable. But I am seriously traumatized by something I saw a few months back. Group of hunting dogs with a guy in UK. They were hunting foxes, and caught one. They tore him. I can't tell how traumatized I am. Why are people so cruel? A poor little creature, what pain..
That's not the worst thing that I've seen. In fox hunting they breed foxes and take the cubs and throw them alive in to an enclosed area full of hunt dogs and the little cub is ripped limb from limb in order to train the dogs. ALL forms of Fox hunting needs to be banned in the UK. At the moment you can still hunt foxes but in a very altered way. I believe the fox can't be chased until it is exhausted. But they can still kill them. A man in wales hunts foxes on his own so he can skin them for their fur and sell it for as little as £15 and it's all legal.
Never understood what is fashionable about wearing an animal's fur. I wish most kind of hunting could be banned. Not talking about when people need to defend themselves or control the animal population.
To Bebe, saying that animal hunting should be banned: I've never experienced this before, but when my mom grew up, my grandparents couldn't afford food from stores. They had to hunt often. I don't think they did it for fun, although I have gotten the impression that Mom was good at it. They would go out every week, especially winters, and hunt in the mountains. They lived in Montana, an American state that is known for being large but having a proportionately small population, and having lots of wildlife. They hunted only when they needed it-often-and made use of what they could. Twice, a friend of theirs preserved the skin to hang it up, but other than that, there is no sign that they used to hunt, except for hunting guns. I agree, you shouldn't be hunting primarily for being able to sell the coats, but sometimes, we need to follow the natural order of the world, and revert to the predator-eats-prey world.
Disgusting, bestial sub-human bastards, why? There's no excuse for animal abuse. All that human bestiality is legal because people do not care about animal cruelty. Please get involved, sign petitions, support animal protection organizations, vote for humane politicians!! If your government representatives don't care about animal welfare they'll will NOT care about you. Please help us fight animal cruelty. All those" "aw, how cute" comments will not help to protect animals....and us from human bestiality. There's indisputable link between animal cruelty and violence against people. No peace on earth while animals suffer - all animals, wild and domesticated alike.
It's not legal to hunt foxes with dogs. It is legal to use hunting birds to lfush foxes from cover apparently. It's also legal to shoot them. Throwing cubs to hounds is not legal, and never used to be done when hounds were trained in the field. Hunts shouldn't be training hounds to kill foxes, and most don't do it. Foxes do kill chickens, and more chickens are kept out of doors now than have been for many years. If you eat cheap eggs and chicken, you have to accept that the farmers need to contol foxes. Trapping and shooting are cruel, but farmers will take what steps are necessary.
They are all just adorable!!
I upvoted only those pics that were obviously of 'wild' or 'urban' foxes... Like others who have expressed their opinion, I am also against domesticating foxes. I have no qualms about leaving food out for them to scavenge, especially in the harshness of winter but I do not think people should in any other way interact with them(except in rescue situations), as gorgeous and lovely as they are!
Bebe, control the animal population....OK, but everything human beings do can do HUMANELY. There is 7.8 billion people on this earth and growing rapidly; these 7 - 8 billion humans raise billions upon the billions of animals to cater to their insatiable appetite for meat, dairy, and eggs. How can our planet support all that?? How our planet can survive all that destruction - rain forests burned down by meat industries, animals suffering in factory farms, dying in unimaginable agony in high-speed slaughterhouses, all that horrific atrocities and destruction so apathetic, heartless people could eat more than one million animals per hour.....not even all those pains and diseases (arthritis, diabetes, clogged arteries, cancers) will stop them. Please don't be one of them, get in possession of your conscience, adopt plant-based diet.
I don't think it's a good idea to go extreme with diets, or anything, for that matter. I do understand that you can get all needed nutrients without meat-we rarely by straight up milk anymore after reading in How Not To Die and watching a document called forks over knives what milk does to you in the amounts that most people have it in, so while we do use real cheese and yogurt, we don't by jug milk anymore and prefer rice milk-but some people just like the taste of a burger, or of a steak, fresh off the grill. It's in the nature of a lot of animals to eat other animals. We can adopt more humane ways of killing animals, and we can try to petition against it by checking where you get your food from, but eating meat isn't inherently bad. We have made it a bad thing. In more moderate, efficient, and humane ways, it might be a good balance. I get it that you said plant based, not to become a vegetarian, so I get that you might already understand this, but just throwing it out.
Had to do a double take this evening. On my lawn tractor seat in my garage was a Mother fox and her kits were sleep on the tractor deck. She looked up like what...The outside garage cats were all nice to her and the kits and allowed her to eat 1st The cats do this also for the possums in my garage. They all leave soon once their kits are able to travel. But they will be back in the Winter....
Tank you Albert for your compassion.
I love foxes, I get a few around my way in the UK, cheeky little buggers. :)
So many "pet" fox pics, that's just sad. How permissive are the laws in those countries to allow such a thing? Selfish humans
Many of those foxes will have been rescued from fur farms. If they have injuries and such they cannot be rehabbed and released in to the wild. Some cubs are sometimes taken in for treatments and for whatever reason become used to humans very quickly and then it becomes nearly impossible to change it back so they also have to become a pet. I'd say 98% of places who allow foxes to be taken as pets always make sure the person knows how to deal with a fox. These aren't just randoms taking a wild fox off the street as a pet. There are a whole plethora of reasons why they aren't wild.
So cute
Yes, Hannah, they are cute, but cruelty to animals and destruction of nature is not cute. Please get involved, support animal protection organizations, sign petitions, join demonstrations, vote for humane politicians, those who do not care about animals and the environment will not care about YOU - us little people, only big, greedy, polluting, destructive corporations. Only consumers can change our planet and make it safe for all life it supports.
I live in a place called Fox Creek and we see foxes all the time! So precious!
Last spring, I was at my sister's fencing tournament and there were seven lil kits! I was dying because they were rolling around and being annoyingly cute but we couldn't touch them or give them treats (our cupcakes) Mama ran off when she saw us and then the babies played for a little bit and then laid under a shed (They must have been living there for a while) to escape the pouring rain. They were so cute!
Make sure you leave water out at this time of year. It's hot out. All the animals passing through your yard, from birds, to foxes to bees will appreciate it. I usually leave out a big pan, and a couple of smaller ones for the littles.
My parents have a low birdbath that foxes drink from, much to my parent's delight!
Thank you for your kindness, Strawberry.
A wonderful post, great shots to enjoy, most people love to see wildlife, especially in the wild, or even in the back yard !!!
I really need to move out of the 'burbs and to a place where foxes come to visit!
Foxes are a beautiful part of nature. Accidentally ran over the most pretty vixen years ago, terminal damage, was very upset. But and I mean But, Fan of fox hunting as the hunt only gets the old cantankerous bitches and dogs (like those fucked up old people who should be put down, thank you Covid 19)
Loved the pics of foxes in natural habitats; the Miyagi Fox Village NOT! Especially after reading more about the place that is “supposed” to be a sanctuary.
I love foxes. They are not only beautiful creatures but they help keep the rodent population under control.
I know that Russia has been working on domesticating for breeding foxes for years. Still a few snags, I believe.
Why do they domesticate and breed foxes? Let me guess, to heinously kill them for fur. There is no place in this world, no country where animals are respected and protected. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi. No great nations, no moral progress.

Absolutely adorable pictures!
thank you....it warms your heart

We had foxes in NC...but in Tx. and Ok. the coyotes have killed them all off!
Foxes are some of my favorite animals. I knew we have them in my area, but I've never been able to see one. I only wish I could domesticate a family of them... But I'll leave them to nature.
Foxes are sweet until you've owned hens. They literally annihilate everything they come across. Yeah it's nature but it's not great waking up finding your hens strewn all over the lawn, they tend to kill one for food then the rest for sport.
Thats a foxy morning that made me smile
I now desire a pet fox
Their pelts are gorgeous.

They are all "cute". But they are wild animals and can carry rabies. Their bite is painful.
In the UK rabies was wiped out in foxes about 20 years ago. A fox has a painful bite IF it's attacking you. Otherwise their bite is no worse than that of your dog that is playing. And like I've said multiple times now, many of the foxes in the pictures aren't able to be released due to long term injuries. Many have been rescued from fur farms and so on and again cannot be released in to the wild. I also want to point out that many of the pictures above come from the Instagram pages of known fox rescues and some people who have foxes that cannot be released back in to the wild.
They're just playing or being in the gardens. The rabies myth was set up by fox hunters as an excuse to chase those poor creatures on horses and having them ripped apart by pack of dogs and enjoying it!And they don't just go out and bite- they generally stay away from people anyway.
Rabies has been eliminated in the UK for many decades now - way longer than 20 years. Rabies was never used as a reason for fox hunting - any one who told you that is either misinformed, or just plain lying. a) rabies is not in the UK b) if foxes did have rabies, why would you risk rabies being passed to your hounds or terriers ?

what a great post! will somebody figure out how to breed up foxes that are cat box/litter box trained and will make good indoor pets? They make pretty cool outdoor pets if there are no big dogs around. And the cats are jealous of the competition! (foxes poop where they please, including on your kitchen counter when they jump up to see what you are doing when making your breakfast! yuck!)

(foxes poop where they please, including on your kitchen counter when they jump up to see what you are doing when making your breakfast! yuck!)
