Stereotype jokes have got to be probably the least creative and tired kind of humor there is, a constant re-hashing of the same old cliches over and again from now until eternity. Italians eat lots of pasta? Check. Germans lack humor? Gotcha. Brazilians and football? Mhm. Oh, the Irish love potatoes do they? I never knew.
Yet still, they remain popular, we as humans apparently love to have our beliefs and categorizations confirmed and they make us happy. The internet has been experimenting with another angle on the theme lately, with people exploring the 'true meaning' behind national flags, and they do allow an element of creativity into proceedings! The French government may have surrendered but many French men, women and children fought bravely in the resistance to save Allied airmen and other prisoners of war. It's doubtful the war against the Nazis would have been won without them.
I'm NOT French but I find this very insulting. I hate how Americans speak about WWII as if they were the only one that were doing something during it. You were never occupied, you never lived in the totality and you have no idea about it. "Our soldiers were dying" - in occupied countries, literally everyone, including women or children, was in danger to be arrested and sent to working camp or tortured to death. And you are not heros - you were just stronger and this is not virtue. And you stepped in after Germany had been weakened by the UK and USSR. In USSR, the situation was so horrible that teenage girls had to join army. Please, get some knowledge of history and stop be so ignorant.
I hate when people say this about French. It makes no sense to base it just on the WWII experience.

The flag was adopted in 1794 (French revolution period) means the monarchy surrounded by the people. White is for the Royalty. Blue and Red are the color for Paris but also the ones of the revolutionary with Red for the blood spilled.

This is INCREDIBLY offensive to the memory of the thousands of Northern Italians who fought and lost their lives fighting for the resistance. In my family we lost four brave men who were helping these Italian Partigiani who were hiding and fighting against the Nazis in the Dolomites during WWII. It saddens me greatly that the Northern Italians' struggles during WWII have not been included in the history books here in the west.
