French Street Artist Takes Recycling To Another Level By Transforming Discarded Mattresses Into Delicious Food Sculptures
Yet another example that everything can be art if you are creative enough. If you have recently thrown away your old smelly mattress, you could now have the chance to bring it back home as a delicious looking treat, except for… it would hardly fit back in your bedroom. But we can definitely appreciate a healthy dose of unhealthy food in this unusual form.
For the past 8 years, French street artist Lor-K has been on a mission to sensitize people about wastefulness by recycling unwanted waste into contemporary urban sculptures. For her latest project “Eat Me”, she cooked up giant food sculptures from old, discarded mattresses found on the streets of Paris.
In order to create these mouth-watering fast food masterpieces, she improvises with what she can find. After carving and spray painting the mattresses, she leaves them, or in other words, ultimately abandons them, where she found them, on the sidewalk – but this time, looking much more appetizing than the original.
Scroll through the urban menu this artist has prepared for you, and bon appétit!

I'm sure it is real? but this looks kinda photoshopped maybe it is just me...
I'd probably take a bite out of this before I got the chance to sleep on it
Man, I want a fruit sandwich now(Whipped cream, fruit and Japanese bread)
My favorite Thai fresh rolls! But where is the dipping sauce? Quel domage.
I'm just thinking "good job French?" That there are no homeless actually using those mattresses from where they were allegedly procured? I like the idea and the transformation but homeless got a better use out of a dirty old mattress than a transformed version - again, even though they look very exciting
Title: I think what was meant was "delicious-looking food articles", not "delicious food articles'. There's a big difference.
These are fantastic soft sculptures. Now for the my thoughts and questions... Old mattresses from the street. First thing, they must weigh a ton with old skin cells, tiny dead beasties, etc. Then, how can this great artist deal with the smell? What happens to them once she's put them back in place? Do people pick them up, take them home, smell up their homes and get bedbugs? I need to know!
"Old dumped mattresses". That means that they are mattresses that have been thrown away by strangers. Mattresses are gross and germ ridden! I could NEVER use a strangers used, discarded mattress! (additionally...um, a health hazard??!! BLECH!)
Yeah, my first thought was: Bed bugs. Then I thought about all the other things that could be in/on an old, discarded mattress. And...ew. It's great artwork, though, if you can stand the medium!
