After Another Celebrity Admits To Showering In Front Of Their Kids, Psychologists Clear The Air

TV host Dylan Dreyer revealed an “efficient” parenting hack that raised eyebrows online. Instead of sacrificing her nighttime routine for her hectic mom life, Dylan said she showers in front of her three sons to save time.

Since her eldest child is seven, many people deemed her approach extremely inappropriate.

“It’s funny because I’m also a very efficient mum, so when I have to shower at night, if I can get all three in the shower with me so I can get everybody bathed at once, we’re good to go!” the 42-year-old meteorologist told the DailyMail.

Highlights
  • TV host Dylan Dreyer said she showers with her sons to save time.
  • Similarly, Bradley Cooper recently revealed that he used to bathe with his father when he was a child.
  • Expert suggests bathing with children can be educational until age 5.

“It’s getting a little weird now that my oldest is seven, so he doesn’t do the shower thing anymore; he’ll be in the bath while I take a shower.”

“But you know, I put the towel on pretty quickly; I don’t linger.

“The other two have no idea what’s going on, so they don’t care. They’ll run around naked all day long, I think they’re just so proud of their bodies and their parts, they love it!”

Dylan married NBC News producer and cameraman Brian Fichera in 2012. The couple share seven-year-old Calvin, four-year-old Oliver, and two-year-old Russell.

The host’s remarks come after she was asked to weigh in on Bradley Cooper’s recent revelation that he used to shower with his father when he was a child.

During an episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, the host admitted his family was “naked all the time,” to which Bradley replied, “Me too.”

“And by the way, I was like that,” the “Maestro” star said. “Not with my mom but with my dad. My dad was always nude. I always took showers with him.”

“And you’re quite comfortable nude?” the host asked.

“Totally,” Bradley confirmed.

The 49-year-old actor could relate to this situation, explaining how the line separating his personal space from his daughter’s is blurred at home.

“My bedroom, the bathtub, toilet, and bed are all in the same room. It’s 24/7, dude.

“There are no doors… The stairs go up, and it’s all one floor.

“We talk where I’m on the toilet, she’s in the bathtub; that’s sort of the go-to.”

According to Psychologist Wendy Lane, children will start to express an interest in washing alone between the ages of 3 and 5

The “Hangover” actor shares a six-year-old daughter, Lea, with model Irina Shayk.

Wendy Lane, a pediatric psychologist at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital, explained that bathing with your children can be acceptable—and even educational— until they reach the age of five.

“It can be a way to learn accurate names for body parts, explain the physical difference between genders, explain that bodies change while growing up, and teach children about personal boundaries,” the expert told Today.

“Bathing with children should always stop if the child asks to stop,” she added.

“Letting children know that their bodies are their own is important.”

According to Lane, children will express an interest in washing alone when they develop increased modesty between the ages of 3 and 5.

Dylan’s “efficient” parenting hack sparked mixed reactions

I walk around naked through the house - from bathroom to bedroom etc. I figure my kids better get used to seeing a REAL naked female body, before they are going to assume that what they see in the media (and later on, if they start watching porn) is real and is what can be expected. I want my daughter to feel safe and good in her skin, so I don't make a problem of her seeing me, as I am not ashamed of myself. She is 11 and locks the bathroomdoor now, that is fine. Her brothers are 12 and 9, don't always lock the door, but if I need to enter the bathroom while they are showering and they do not want me to see them, they close the curtain. On the other hand, the eldest showed me a spot on his penis that he was worried about, so at least he isn't ashamed or afraid of me seeing him. I wouldn't mind for my kids to see more natural naked bodies, just to make them less insecure of their own bodies and make them have realistic expectations of how a real naked body looks.

In my country swimming pools used to have (or maybe still do) single dressing cubicles but also communal dressing rooms, 1 for women and 1 for men. My mom would always take me to the communal one, and I think that gave me a very realistic and healthy view of what female bodies actually look like. I am very grateful for that, I didn't fall into that self-loathing that so many young girls fell into because they had unrealistic ideas of how perfect a normal body is supposed to look (although many factors help cause/prevent that of course).

Right? So puritanical! Heaven forbid their kids see a nipple but it's A-OK for them to do active shooter drills. I just can't wrap my head around their way of thinking. Imagine telling Scandi parents not to sauna in front of their kids!

We call this American prudishness (the English also have a hand in it). My bathroom has a shower, a bath, two sinks, a bidet and a toilet bowl. No one is supposed to lock the bathroom door. PS the whole family, including the children by marriage, regularly walks through the house in their birth costume.

Lol, I'm American and I would see my parents naked very rarely when they were changing or something but we never showered or bathed together. They were both brought up with the mind of the times. I don't see anything wrong with showering with your children, for such a puritanical country we sure have a lot of people with dirty minds.

We never bothered about nudity when the children were babies. As they grew up, they started expressing their desire for privacy. This was respected. If a door was closed people would knock, and wait for permission before entering.

Some people walk around nude in front of their kids. It's just the human body and it's no big deal. My family is a bit repressed so it's not for us but i think it's just a personal choice.

I saw my parents get out of a shower or in the bath my whole childhood. I am completely comfortable with my children seeing me do the same. It gave me a realistic idea of what bodies look like. There is nothing sexual about being comfortable in your private home doing routine things like bathing or dressings. It’s more concerning that people find this concerning…

I remember mom in the tub, the old neighbor lady sitting on the hamper talking to her, my sister at the sink brushing her teeth, and I walked in for a towel and a chat. No one cared. i really don't get the up-tight thing.

My cousin won't even let her daughter see her own baby sister getting changed, or swim with my topless boys. Nevermind, adults. She freaks, if her husband walks into her baby's room with no shirt on. I find it odd, because she and I lived with the same grandparents as children, and we often took baths with each other, and our brothers when we were little. Or, showers with grandma. Grandpa, was usually topless indoors. My parents loved skinny dipping, in the lake. Yes, we're American, but her views, are very different than the rest of the family. The only difference, I can think of to explain it,is that she got very into Christianity, as a teenager. Certain types of American Christians, tend to see sin, perversion, and evil, where none exist. Strangely they're, typically the same ones, who somehow don't see actual perverts, when they're blatantly in their face.
