High school biology doesn't teach guys how to understand women. But it at least gives them an idea of how their bodies work. Pass that and you won't infuriate your girlfriend by telling her to "keep it in" when she asks you to buy her some tampons. Recently, Twitter user @brownandbella asked women to share the most ridiculous things they've heard men say about "sex, reproductive health, menstruation, etc" and BOY did they deliver! As of this article, the thread already has nearly 20K upvotes and over 3.5K comments, many of which will make you wonder if men are really that stupid or are they just being dicks. Maybe the first, maybe the latter, maybe a bit of both.

Almost a quarter of men have admitted that they have "no idea" what a pelvic floor is or what it is supposed to do. About 1 in 20 believe it's just another name for your pelvis and some even think it's a dance move. A new study has confirmed that men really are clueless when it comes to their female partner's body.

The study, released by pelvic floor experts INNOVO, found that nearly 4 in 10 men don't feel comfortable talking to women about it, too. 4 in 10 men also admit they have no understanding about the health issues their wife or girlfriend faces and are stumped when it comes to the length of their period.

There should be mandatory sex-ed for everyone, that we wouldn't be oblivious for specifics of each gender

The same magical 4 in 10 men don't feel comfortable talking to women about intimate health issues and as a result, more than a third try to avoid all conversations with their partner about subjects such as periods, intimate screening tests, and even sex.

"Intimate health issues can be a difficult subject for many to discuss," Jane Wake, women's health and fitness expert, said. "'It may be funny to think men have no idea what a pelvic floor is or does, but it's a subject which needs to be taken seriously – especially as men also have a pelvic floor and can suffer the same problems as women."

Either he has a very small penis or thinks tampons are far bigger than they are. Either way.... wow.

Jane added that both men and women find it embarrassing to discuss their private health concerns with someone of the opposite sex, even if it is their own partner, but that being as open as possible with each other is the best way to gradually break down the taboo.

When I was about 14, over 20 years ago, I was reading the problem page in a teen magazine. A girl had written a letter, in a total panic, because her periods weren't blue. She thought she had some terrible disease.

how did ANYONE know how many she would need in space? how many women have had their periods in space? we know that the absence of gravity affects various body functions.

This is actually kinda problem within raw and vegan community. Women literally not eating enough nutrients that they stop bleeding and saying that its healthy and normal and menstruation is just cleansing of organism.... Worst part is, some of them are youtubers with thousands and thousands of young subscribers, feeding them this bullsh*t.

Vegans mostly eat correctly, stupid people who are plant based and don't do their food homework are the ones who don't get enough nutrients and get too thin and give vegans a bad name. I know it's hard to keep track of all the idiots out there. it's overwhelming.

To be honest, it is because you eat. If you starve yourself to death, your periods will stop.

Sadly this is very common thing to believe in some vegan groups because malnourished women does not usually have periods.

It's the kind of 'logic' that some people would probably believe. It's so easy to stamp out ignorance!! Stupid is more complicated but we should start by sharing knowledge so people can make good choices.

Protein intake does effect ovulation frequency. So eating meat would increase the amount of periods you have in a year. Look it up. https://www.vetmed.wisc.edu/goldberglab/pdf/P003.pdf

I am amazed boys don’t get called on the carpet by their moms about not having proper sex Ed! It also would like maybe, keep them from having sex u til they actually want to know more, or understand it.

My cousin is a vegetarian and has lots of issues, went to the dr, she is anemic bc of her diet. It’s unhealthy and is damaging her body. So now instead of eating meat she has to eat a bunch of vitamins and supplements that’s real natural

Vegetarians have reported shorter periods. Low iron may cause shorter periods, and other lifestyle factors may impact period flow. Vegetarians and vegans often have lower BMI and higher rates of physical activity. Both low BMI and high amounts of exercise are known to reduce menstrual bleeding if not stop bleeding altogether. While irregular cycles are normal, prolonged lack of menstruation may have other impacts on fertility. If your period stops for more than three cycles, you should see a doctor.

Actually..I did a paper on this for an Anthropology class and he's not far off. Periods are natural..just unnaturally more frequent due to diet. Women in hunting gathering societies eat very little meat and consume low protein diets. As a result, they usually do not get their first periods until they are around 18 and they only get their period once or twice a year. Women from industrial societies that eat meat on the regular have monthly periods because of high protein intake. Amongst wild Chimpanzees, whenever the males want to mate with the females, they will kill an animal and feed the meat to the females because the protein puts the females in estrus and make them more receptive to the mating.
