The brain is a truly fantastic thing. The same organ that’s capable of controlling a myriad of passive as well as active bodily functions, comprehending elaborately complex concepts, and providing a unique kind of sentience is also the organ that often slips us a dumb idea. Or two. OK, much more.

But, hey, not all ideas are dumb, despite you thinking so. A curious Twitter user by the name of Bijan asked the internet what’s the dumbest idea people ever had, but are nevertheless convinced it’d still make the world a better place for all.

I also think they should live on an "average" wage for a year or two so they understand what the average person/family have to go through.

Legalize weed across the states, tax it, and use that money to repair the roads. Call it Operation Pothole.

Well in Australia it is illegal to ask a breastfeeding mother to leave or move elsewhere etc. Doesn't matter if she is feeding in the middle of a shopping centre, a restaurant etc. From my observations, it seems that other women are the ones that complain about breastfeeding in public, a lot more than men do.

This one makes me so sad, especially because of how women and PoC are so much more routinely dismissed, leading to sometimes dire consequences.

That should be acceptable. HOWEVER, it should go both ways. I am tried of being polite while a cashier ignores me and gossips with a coworker or cops an attitude.

Yes, to learn patience instead of violence, and to see just how nasty people on their own side can be when they don’t even have to be (and sometimes I think some assholes do it just for shits and giggles).

I've always said that kids who plan to go to college should have to put it off for a year to work at a job. They'd appreciate college and their lives alot more!

Honestly, what I’d rather see is a bigger emphasis in high school on various types of work and work experience you can gain. I’ve found work experience can get you quite far in life, while I know a lot of people trying to pay off massive student loans working in food service and retail because they went for a four year degree in something where there are no jobs and couldn’t get any work experience. When I was in high school, they told everybody that a four year degree in whatever you want was a guaranteed ticket to a good job.

I have said this for years... everyone needs to work in retail and food services at least once. It give you a better appreciation for the worker, and the buyer.

Or as a government worker. I don't mean Secretary of State either. I mean the person that answers the police complaint hotline, or has to order office supplies with no budget, or a city worker that is trying to fix a pothole on a residential street where 20 nosy older white women live.

And everyone should be forced to spend a year being a janitor! Janitors are people too! Their job is hard and low paying! Everyone who's never done it should be forced to against their will! And why not garbage collector?! They're people too, and their job is hard and low paying! Everyone should be forced against their will to spend a year doing that! And being a public school teacher! And a hospital orderly who has to clean bedpans and literally change people's diapers! And daycare center worker! And street sweeper! And parking lot attendant! And plumber! And mechanic!

I've worked for min. wage in the service industry, for a job that featured many annoying customers and mopping floors and doing dishes. But this is a terrible idea. Compulsory service of any kind is outlawed by the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution. And think about it: are the people who are doing this against their will going to provide good service? In the case of that delaying someone going to nursing school or med school or becoming a teacher or social worker or paramedic, is it really a good thing to delay their longterm plans? This is a lot of half-baked nonsense on here, as per usual.

It's certainly not that simple and the US isn't evenly split. Also many "red states" are only red because those in power are messing with election laws so the political leaning of the masses might be different. There are also plenty of conservatives in "blue states"
