Hero Dog Gets Bitten By A Venomous Rattlesnake After Jumping In Front Of It To Save His Human
Every dog owner is familiar with those early morning walks with the beloved pet. So is Paula Godwin from Anthem, USA, who casually took a carefree walk with her two dogs – Todd and Cooper – last Friday, June 29th, but it ended not really as she expected.
Everything happened so fast, Paula at first didn’t even notice something sitting on the road in front of her. “It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a rattlesnake,” Godwin wrote in a Facebook post. “But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me.”
6-month-old Golden Retriever Todd proved that dog is a man’s best friend by jumping between his owner and a dangerous reptile, taking the bite that was addressed to his human. “He jumped right in front of my leg where I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like,” says Paula.
Since the rattlesnake bit poor puppy right on the face and it quickly started to swell up, Paula Godwin rushed to the nearest veterinarian clinic without even thinking. The vet gave Todd a shot of anti-venom and kept him for the rest of the day just to see if everything’s okay.
Yesterday his owner updated her Facebook status with a picture of Todd in the park saying that her puppy is recovering fine and is already back on his feet. “Todd for sure is my hero and I feel I have to say that the man up stairs ️surely is watching out for me, too.”

Share on FacebookBrave, brave beautiful pup. So glad he is recovering well. Deserves his weight in his favourite treats! Happy full life little one.
What a wonderful pupper! I've known many guardian angels that have worn fur instead of wings. The bravery and selflessness of dogs is a great gift, God bless your little hero!
Goldens always put others first! Except when it comes to snacks! Love Todd!!!!!!
That baby is amazing. I will never understand people who dislike animals. His happy ending is to be celebrated.
Animals are so wonderful. What a brave dog, who obviously loves his human. I was out at a similar park in Arizona a few years ago. We'd gotten off the path to take some pictures, and afterwards I looked down, and there was a rattlesnake all curled up, snoozing not more than a foot away from me. Honestly, I could have accidentally stepped on him, he was so close! I was in Sunday shoes and nylons, not much protection against a snake bite. We thought maybe he was dead, but as we moved back onto the path, we watched as he unwound and slithered away. Scared the heck out of me. I don't go to wilderness areas without boots and thick socks now.
Heroes usually are pictured as these perfect humans, but actually Todd is what a hero looks like. Heroes have scars from helping and saving other people.
I thought it might be where the squidgy dog was bit, maybe some fur came off. Or the site where the anti venom was administered.
