There are so many dog breeds, it's incredibly easy to mistake one pooch for another. Luckily, St. Louis-based artist Grace Gogarty (a.k.a. Little Tunny) has created a comprehensive comic series that will help you identify most of the dog types.
"I've been drawing comics since I was a kid," Grace told Bored Panda. "I absolutely love animals, so that's usually my focus! I worked as a supervisor at a doggy daycare for years and got to meet lots of dogs. The cartoon dogs featured in this guide are the breeds I met the most of."
The artist has divided the series into three parts - big, medium, and small dog breeds, so no k9s are left behind. Great Danes? Check. Border Collies, Yorkshire Terriers? Yep. Pugs, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds? Yup. "Sadly, I haven't met every dog in the word yet so that I couldn't write about them all," Grace said. "Although I stereotype them, all dogs are wonderful individuals, so I couldn't possibly pick a favorite breed!"
Among the animals Gogarty owns, there's one pooch as well. "His Name is Huey, and he is an enigma. We have no idea what kind of breeds he's comprised of!" Scroll down to meet the dog memes, and remember - even if some traits sound better than others, every dog deserves a to be a pet. Even if it pees all over your new rug.

I always feel sorry for huskies who are adopted by lazy people. They should get a lazy dog or a goldfish.
I also feel bad when they're adopted/bought and brought into climates that really don't suit them either. They're made for snow.
Load More Replies...As an owner of 2 huskys and active in husky rescue......waaay too many people want this breed because of their beauty and wolf-like looks. They get a husky and don't excercise it - thus the couch, carpet and walls are eaten, landscape is ruinned because of digging, craters are dug under the fence and/or 6 and 7 foot fences are scaled so the dog can do what it were bred for....running. Huskys have a high prey drive so often aren't good with cats, chickens, small dogs and small children. Huskys are difficult to train due to their high intiellect and stubborness - thik behaviorally disordered child. Huskys blow their coats for months and there is a massive amount of fur on everything...no matter how often you brush them. Shelters in Texas, Florida, and southern California are overflowing with this breed and many are killed in these shelters every day because of lazy, uninformed or humans who think they'll be
My brother has a husky and he definitely doesn’t exercise her enough. She’s always escaping and will kill any small creature she can find - opossums, snakes, squirrels, etc. She’s older though, and is finally settling down. Poor girl.
Load More Replies...Three couch, one wingback chair, one accent chair, carpets of the entire house, one highly prized collector Barbie , at least 20 pairs of shoes ( Some very expensive), two window screens, one cabinet door, several homeworks just to begin with....no big deal, just another day in a husky's life.
Don't bother commenting about lack of exercise... she lives on a farm and runs around with other animals and her father all day and swims everyday. But a husky's gotta do what a husky's gotta do.
Load More Replies...Heavily coated dogs = cold climates. It's just cruel to expect your beautiful Husky/Malamute/Samoyed to be happy anywhere id doesn't snow at least SOMETIME!
I keep seeing Huskies here in SoCal. It's so wrong to inflict this climate on them.
Load More Replies...Love, Love ,Love my husky! She's my walking buddy and we do 5 to 8 miles everyday! I Walk her early in the morning I the summer to avoid the heat but she pushes me hard in the winter on our walks because she wants to run through the snow! You also ah e to be prepared for the shedding!! When they are blowing their coat, It's like getting a whole other dog when you brush them out.
I had 2 husky litter mates and acreage . Exercise problem solved. Oh, and they HATED snow. They were such babies and cried and whined when I attempted to make them go out in it. They were so funny and the absolute best!!!!!!!
I wonder if there is room in your brains to understand; that while I am only on Husky #2 (in Missouri no less) that she literally goes everywhere with me and is the bff most people can’t live up to. We don’t run 5k’s but we play and I have a nice big yard. Life with a dog is about interaction and companionship, that’s why you get a doge. People outside of your stereotypes and hateful words, find your comments ridiculous, and I’m one of them. I have spent over 60 hrs training, Luca (and her predecessor, Cinder), not once did they eat the couch, or anything else when I left them at home alone. Surely you all can’t be so narrow minded to think that a human or ANY dog will not adapt to anything they put their minds to. She is loved like a child and treated as if a grandchild by my parents. She doesn’t get boarded when I go out of town, she goes to their house or my brothers. It’s a responsible owner thing, and that’s what you should be preaching, instead of judgment.
I had a full blood husky female until she passed last May at 11 years old. have a sheperd /husky mix 12 years old neither one of them ever chewed up anything in the house.
So happy we lived so close to the edge of the city limits. Four blocks, then my wife would hang out the window with the long lead so Arlo could get a real good run in a couple times a week. Rain or shine. Winter or summer. The rest of the time he a I would go biking. Had this arm attachment on the bike to hook a short leash to, worked great. Miss that boy.
My neighbors have a husky who just learned he can jump their 4 foot fence and come romp with my dogs when he wants to.
Have had three over the years. Spot on but you left out the part about being fur factories that shed huge amounts in the spring
Mine only shed twice a year...each time lasting 6 months.
Load More Replies...People should also consider the climate when choosing a dog - Huskies in Israel or Thailand, nooooo
I've never been to either but I have been to Malaysia and if it's even vaguely similar climate wise that would be torture!! In fact that is the place that Chinese Crested truely belong!!
Load More Replies...I have 5, yes 5 huskies. all are adopted, live in the house or air conditioned garage. And yes they are a hand -full(like having five five-year-olds running around. But I wouldnt trade them for the world. And contrary to popular belief, huskies can take the heat. I live in Texas, and mine cant wait to get outside, or to the bark-park. Walks with that many is a chore. Only take two at a time, but they all get a turn. You cant have just one.LOL
I could not agree more with most of the sentiments expressed here and I have steered my folks away from Huskies as a breed. However, there REALLY IS that rare couch potato of a husky that would rather snuggle, cuddle, and nap in spite of ALL your pleas to go out side & run & play. I have one. She is a little TOO content (even for me) just lay on the sofa and stay warm! Mar282015_...b176d6.jpg
We have a husky. A very noise sensitive husky, who doesn't like to go for walks outside where there are cars nearby, or horns, or big trucks, or sirens. We have a nice backyard that she loves to play in, but the moment a loud siren can be heard.....she runs for the gate and wants to go back inside. It's just who she is. She is a very timid dog who doesn't really go up to people to be petted......she takes her time observing you first, then will approach you. Once she does come to you, she'll be your best friend. You cannot judge a dog, or make assumptions.....every dog has their own personality regardless of breed. She has never chewed any furniture, she doesn't take food off the coffee table if left there....she is very well behaved. She does love a good nap though! LOL
Very astute & focused summary of Sibe-wise traits. I could have added one further trait: "I MUST be with you every wakened second of the day; if I am not, I'll eat the very latest book you just acquired as your penalty!" There are more (acquired through 40 year of life with these lovely furry canine wolf-clones, but the gist of it is here (in Grace's cartoon), LoL!
Too bad the author can't distinguish between a pomeranian and a husky
Had a husky once. Best thing that ever happened to me. I HAD to exercise if I was to keep him sane.
We have two Huskies and constantly walk them. They are amazing dogs, but as others said, need a TON of walking. Please, please, please choose another dog if you don't plan on taking them out multiple times a day. Also, they shed, so buy stock in lint brushes!
when I see a lost dog ad and its a husky I think...not really lost, just running
2 weeks ago we took in our fifth arctic rescue (first malamute, previous 4 have been huskies). Arctics are unbelievably cute and adorable as puppies, they're just little pudgy balls of fluff (our first husky, who we bought as a pup, was once literally mistaken for thistledown blowing on the breeze). Lot's of people get them as puppies because they're so cute. Then they grow up, and they are working dogs. Huskies especially. You either take a husky for a 5 km run every day or they will eat the house, then escape, and cause havoc in the neighbourhood. No third option. They're also very headstrong, they take commands and orders more as optional recommendations, and will constantly try to bend or break the rules. They are great dogs, IF you're willing to put the work in to look after them and train them. Sadly, plenty of people aren't.
We walk our husky three times a day. Several miles. Huskies are very smart so they also need mental 'puzzles' to do. This is a breed that also needs another dog. Never seen another breed crave other dogs like a husky. Definitely a high maintenance dog. Not a lazy lapdog!
Load More Replies...People make this mistake all the time. They get a huskie for it's looks but don't realize these fuzzy babies need tons of exercise! I had a friend who kept one chained to a tree 24/7 and couldn't understand why She (the dog) kept breaking lose and running off. D'uh! I felt so bad for that dog.
I A) would have reported her and B) would no longer have been her friend! 😡 very cruel keepin such an active dog who needs so much stimulation chained up 😦
Load More Replies...Oops, my comment posted before I finished.....humans who think they'll be cool by owning a dog that looks so wolf-like. Most husky rscues will only adopt dogs to husky savvy homes.
Looks like an Eggplant emoji earring... very strange! 🍆

Load More Replies...Labs are great! They are smart, and loyal,....if you can keep them at home. They're Big-Time roamers. Unfortunately, they don't do all that well in the house. My black Lab, 'Captain Black' had a lethal tail, which was always sweeping back and forth. Unfortunately, he could clear a coffee table in a matter of just a few seconds. The Captain was the main reason why I happily switched from red wine to white wine. Oh, and the Captain sure could fart up a storm too. :D
2 Dobermans used to bark furiously at me every morning as I walked to school bus. One morning I spoke to them. Then on, our routine was they would wait for me eagerly every morning, and I would stop and talk to them. They were happy to see me.
Nonono german Shepards are just floofy boofs, and squishy boopers
The Yorkshire terrier will also show its affection by nipping your ankles. They have teeth sharp enough to draw blood at every nip. (Don't tell me that I should break them of that habit, please -- they're not my dogs but a friend's.)
Still miss ours. He was awesome. Never really had to train him and he listened perfectly. Would just walk near you and come when called. Kinda obsessed about bananas and would do anything for 1. (Stole a whole bunch of the table once... Silly dog) He hated water so when it was bath time, I would just get in the shower with him and close the door. He loved getting brushed and groomed though.
Also Food machine, also needs unlimited times of trecking unless it's hot.
The border collie needs to have work to do or it will be neurotic. If you don't have time to spend training your dog, get something less intelligent. Sometimes a border collie will herd your kids to keep them from getting separated from you.
Tsundere lol that actually sums it up pretty well. Mine sometimes wants to be pet hard and long, but mostly she'll lay down somewhere close and love you from a distance - just don't touch her or she'll leave.
"BorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBork"
You're thinking about akitas. Shibas (mostly) like petting. Akitas are like "no way, dude" as they slip just out of your reach. Not fan of strangers.
I've come to know boxers as social dogs that love to play and hug...
Endless barker, always cold, always hungry, lives in its own world.
In my seventy plus years, I have always been a dog lover/owner. Big dogs, medium dogs, and small ones. But when I got my first shih-tzu I've never looked back since. They're very energetic, love kids, easy to hold, and the most expensive part to them is the grooming every 6-7 weeks. They don't eat a lot, and best of all, they don't leave big piles that need cleaning up. Oh, and they look like hairy little children, in need of affection. I love my CharlieK. Period!
Very cute. But you missed Chow Chow, my favorite breed. Probably beacause I also like cats =]
I LOVE my four-legged children! They never demand anything but love and affection, which they return with interest. And they will love you, no matter who, or what, you are. 00-Yep-5a8...9e0ffb.gif
lucky for you! mine demands the food right out of your mouth. no, not that food, that ones gross. the one that's in your mouth right now. no no once you take it out of your mouth it's not the one in your mouth anymore!! can i eat it directly from your mouth? no? why not!!!

I have a Boxer and this was pretty accurate. They did forget the snoring, farting and slobbery kisses! 😁
NO miniature pincher??? They are the kings of the toy breed and they show it! They do all the barking, the whining, and prancing in the kingdom! Plus they will either bit you or lick you to death!!
Loved the descriptions, but I learned more about each breed from the comments then the drawings. I loved reading everyone's stories about their dogs, sooooo funny! My family has had a few dogs over the years, different breeds, and some were on this list, and the descriptions fit. More so the descriptions from the comments, but some from the list too.
Furry Kids are the best kind, wish I could have some again but living up on the 4th floor makes it just a bit difficult*sigh*
Buried my last cat 2 yrs. ago and new landlord says no more animals in the building. :( I miss having the companionship even though she was a bit demanding. Actually, not so much demanding as just climbing into my lap and helping herself to whatever I was eating. lol.. I still remember getting up to get a glass of milk from the fridge and coming back to find she had snagged the entire T-bone off my plate and stalked off with it.

No terriers? I have a rat terrier, he loves long walks, can find chocolate no matter where it is hidden, loves to play squeaky ball throw and chase but won't bring it back to me
My experience with a rottweiler is "looks like a tough guard dog but most people can out run them..." The one that we were taking care of with our two dogs (one a chow mix and the other a black lab/shepherd mix) could never keep up with the other two dogs nor our neighbor's dogs. He was always left in their dust.
I have a border collie husky mix, hes not like a husky or a border collie at all. Except the running part.
Do Shetland Sheepdog! - herding instinct but no sheep so probably herding shrubs and children - one evolutionary step away from speaking English - happy to be here
Dachsund:. Wind up barker toy. Will stare you down until beady eyes melt your heart for a taste of whatever you're eating. Lives to trip you. Underdog? No. UNDERFOOT. Pee outside? Goodness no. Hit repeat and do it all again tomorrow.
I would like to know what would have been said about Australian Cattle Dogs
missed English Shepard, not that I'm surprised they never get any recondition.
I have an eight week old black Golden Shepherd (Golden Retriever/German Shepherd). Going through a tough time right now with the whole biting thing. Trying to use positive cues but right now my arms are completely cut up by her fangs.
In that context a pet is a pat as in a scratch behind the ears. Forever. Don't stop. Ever lol
Load More Replies...Is it really so common to find all these pure breed dogs in shelters in the US? Here in Brazil you'll pretty much only ever find mutts in shelters - breed dogs are too expensive, only occasionally you'll see someone donate one, regardless of age or conditions - but whenever I see these posts, people will always talk about having a bunch of breed rescue dogs.
Rafaella, approximately 25% of the dogs in shelters are pure breed dogs. Lots of folks adopt dogs not understanding how much time and commitment they require and those pups end up in shelters. I work in rescue and we have SO MANY pure breed dogs it's crazy! There are even rescues all over the country that are breed specific so they can offer the appropriate care for specific breeds - so Labradors, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Grayhounds, Bulldogs, and tons of others have whole rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for specific breeds. We have lots of mutts too, but there are pure breeds everywhere. Pretty odd, huh?

HAHAHAHAHAHA this has something true, but please #AdoptDontShop, if you´re searching for a special dog breed because of its character you can also find it at the shelters, but all the mutts´re also adorable, plus usually mutts get older than purebred dogs, especially the smaller ones!!!
Dobermann: That's not true ! Who wrote it? I bet that person has never had or saw a Dobermann in his/her life. They are gentle, but only to their family and their friends. Because trust me, you would not want to meet them with its owner in a dark... They were used during WWII by Germans,,, and do you know why? No? Then maybe you should take some history lessons on the Internet. But you can bet they weren't scared of anything. Because of their "role" in WWII people hated them later, they were scared of them, they knew you shouldn't mess with them. These dogs are not for fun, they are not your sleeping buddies. And believe me, if you know how to properly raise them and train them, you don't need a gun to protect yourself..... And one more thing: if you see a Dobermann who is scared of himself you know his owner doesn't have what it takes to raise him and you can bet he doesn't treat him well and he is hurting him. _FACT_ I know, I have them my whole life.
I took it that the tv lies about them being scary because they are even afraid of themselves like being afraid of your own shadow. I grew up with Dobies and I too defend their reputation. I never had an aggressive one and in my experience they are women’s dogs gravitating more to the females in the home. I have had five between childhood at home and then on my own and all of them were like that. They can be trained like many other breeds to be protectors making excellent guard dogs but as family pets they are wonderful . Society has chosen different breeds throughout time to demonize and that breed suffers for it. At one time it was the Doberman, another it was Rotties. As of late it’s been pitties.all of which I adore and have owned both Pitties and Dobies without incident. I had close friends with Rotties and never a problem. It’s all in who owns them, how they’re trained, and WHAT they are trained for. like German Shepherds can be viscious as part of K-9 but are great as family dogs
Load More Replies...All people I know who had a dog were oh so happy to not have one anymore. None of my friends got a second dog after the first one passed away and they all enjoyed the newly-gained free time...
Then it was the correct decision not to get another doggie for those people. Caring for a dog (or any animal) appropriately, takes lots of time, money, and love. I cherish my pups and would be very unhappy without one, and I will continue to rescue as long as I'm able. But if a person does not enjoy and/or care for their pup(s) fully, they absolutely should not get another.
