Internet Slams “Smug” Disneyland Paris Employee Who Interrupted A Marriage Proposal
InterviewThere is only one thing that can ruin a proposal at Disneyland. And that is an employee…
Wait. What did you expect? Kids? People screaming? The weather? The cliché setting? You stumbling on your own shoelaces, or, Lord forbid, your own words? Don’t be silly, that never happens at Disneyland.
But a wild employee is definitely a reason. Don’t believe me? Oh, it happened. Just watch.
Disneyland is a magical place, but proposing to your significant other is still something that is anything but ideal there

A video has recently surfaced on the internet of this one couple at Disneyland. In the video, we see the guy, Ante, with whom Bored Panda managed to get in tough for an interview, kneeling down on one knee and attempting to pop the question to his gorgeous significant other. I say attempting because not several seconds in, a Disneyland employee rushes in to ruin it all.
Why? Apparently, this particular platform in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle was fenced off. The employee snatched the engagement ring from the man’s hand and proceeded to slide down the stairs nearby, gesturing that they should relocate to the area he was pointing at.
A man was proposing to his girlfriend in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle when a Disneyland Paris employee ruined it for them
FYI, the reason why it’s fenced off, according to Disney Reporter Edith Gervin, is because the platform is used for the Dream… and Shine Brighter! shows multiple times per day in celebration of Disneyland Paris’ 30-Year Anniversary. It is surrounded by equipment and fireworks, which would pose a safety risk for anyone who’s not supposed to be there. Reportedly, Ante proposed close to when a show was scheduled to start, so time was of the essence.
Before the 21-second video cuts off, we can see the Ante approach the employee to explain the situation, but the employee was having none of it and the moment was ruined. People could hear booing starting soon after.
“Me and my fiancée were perplexed. Our moment was destroyed. Me and my fiancée weren’t even sure if she said yes. We settled on a nearby bench, and I put the ring on her finger. Together we watched the video of the proposal on my phone,” explained Ante what happened after the video cut off.
However, Ante had approached another employee, a woman, and got her permission to propose beforehand. Just that the intervening employee was seemingly not aware of it.

In a Reddit comment under the now-viral video, OP, who is the proposing man’s best friend, explained “the other female employee said: ‘it’s not allowed to go up there’ he then answered that he want to propose on which she replied with ‘if that’s the case go for it’. He then went for it and the rest is on tape.”
In another comment, OP also elaborated that the employee vanished as quickly as he had appeared. His best friend also was fighting the urge to make the moment even worse by slamming the employee on the ground for ruining what was supposed to be the best day of his life thus far.
In a statement to Newsweek, a Disneyland spokesperson said that they regret how poorly this situation was handled, and they have apologized to the couple, offering to make it right.
“We got an offer for a weekend at Disneyland with a hotel of our choice. We refused the offer. Disney wanted to get back in touch, but haven’t done so yet,” explained Ante.

“I thought it was very sincere of Disney to contact me by phone. I just want this one moment back but unfortunately that is no longer possible,” added Ante.
All of this happened at Disneyland Paris, France, in front of the Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, on a fenced-off platform. So, yeah, heads up if you’re gonna be doing this.
As soon as the video hit the interspace, it went viral. It initially popped up on the subreddit r/IamATotalPieceOfS**t where, as of this article, it has a bit over 96,000 upvotes with about 60 Reddit awards. It was also covered by a number of news media outlets and the video also found its way to YouTube.
At the end of the video, folks can hear booing, and the internet was pretty much of the same opinion once it reached Reddit
As for the internet’s reactions, for the most part, it was the same as the people booing in the video. This was accompanied by criticism, pointing out the employee’s tone of voice as if he was more than happy to ruin the moment, even proud, perhaps. But the moment that people criticized him the most was him snatching the ring. You just don’t do that. Period.
Others gave credit to the proposing man for not losing it. And some speculate that the employee took the opportunity while he was kneeling to intervene so as to not get his butt handed to him. And that’s probably why he vanished soon after.
Yet others speculated that this employee will not last long in the company as Disney tends to take its image of “Happiest Place On Earth” seriously.
Whatever the case, you can check out the video in our article as well as on Reddit and YouTube with all of the comments intact. But before you go, what are your thoughts on this? If you were the employee, how would you have handled this? Let us know in the comment section below!
Poor employee, victim of the tacky habit of making wedding proposals in public in inappropriate places.
I agree. And I get it... He "asked" the other employee if it was allowed and she "said it was okay". But this is coming from the one that got into trouble for going behind a fence that was off limits to the PUBLIC. He is part of the public no matter if it is a proposal or not. We don't know whether he truly asked someone else or not. These tacky proposal things just annoy me anyway.
Load More Replies...You can't blame the guy for doing his job. It's fenced off for a reason. He was probably told to ensure all areas were clear for the show.
Exactly. Just because some other employee says it's ok doesn't mean that every other employee is informed. Maybe he should have tried to schedule this in advance with them.
Load More Replies...I'm not blaming the employee here. I use to work in a cinema, management said we could not give student discounts to anyone that did not have a NUS student union card. People would show me student ID cards that prove they were students but were not specifically the NUS card. Some customers thought we were power tripping but If we were found to give out discounts we would be punished if the customer complained the managers always folded and let them in. The guys probably just doing his job.
that just seem stupid to me. not accepting students id cards, just bc they went to a different school. what if they were visiting friends or something?
Load More Replies...As a former past cast member I know he did what he was trained to do, you cant imagine the stress they put you under to be a perfect cast member every second of every day. I once had 2 friends get a warning because they were speaking their native language. On their break, in a staff area. Said area had been broken off with black curtains as the guests had to use our gangway as theirs was having problems. So some a** hat wrote them up because the guests could hear spanish been spoken somewhere past the curtain. That been said this guy took it way to far and could have handled it 100% better, he just loved breaking up the moment. He could have done enough to not get written up and not be a jerk in the process
So, BP didn't have all the info apparently... The guy didn't lose his job, he's not going to be fired for following safety protocols. The employee who gave them permission was mistaken, and as the restricted area is about to be bathed in pyrotechnics, the interrupting employee was doing his job, and removing the guests as fast as possible by grabbing the ring. Paris Disney isn't going to fire anyone, they have a hard enough time keeping employees in the first place. Now, if this was the U.S., that's a whole different story. The guests would totally whine and cry and throw tantrums all over social media until the poor employee would've shamed so badly that he'd have to leave. (Pretty stupid of the guy to want to do the proposal there anyway, imo. There are countless other areas, smh)
Those a-holes obviously were in the wrong for going beyond the fence. Granted the employee could've handled that wayyy better then grabbing the ring out of his hand and running, but they literally had to move 10 feet from where they were to beyond the fence. That's what we call entitlement issues.
i read somewhere that the place they were proposing was a platform used for pyrotechnics and the show in which the platform was used was about to begin, i dont think this is an employee power tripping, more a employee trying to keep safety rules kept so no one gets badly burned.
poor cast member. he is only doing his job. The show was about to start (CM with this outfit are here only during the show), the stage is full of pyrotectincs and electrical stuff, bubble machines etc. Every where else this man would have faced security guard instead of a nice employee. i thaught never step on a stage if you're not part of the show was common knowledge.
Dude was doing his job. Go somewhere you arent supposed to be, stuff can happen. He chose to take that risk. I thought the video was awesome
Have non of y’all considered they are lying about getting permission bc I doubt he was given it and it just saying they were so they aren’t in the wrong
You just KNOW this is going to be brought up at the wedding. Another reason why it's generally a much better idea to propose somewhere private, which is often the much more romantic option. My sister's BF surprised her by decorating their house with flowers and laying out an intimate afternoon tea with fancy little cakes on the table, and that's when he asked her to marry him. If she had said no, no-one else would have known about it. (She said yes, of course, because as you'll have already figured he's quite a catch. Years later they're still happily married, which isn't surprising because they're clearly soulmates).
the employee 10000% shouldn’t have snatched the ring like that, but he was trying to do his job. Plus, I just don’t see why the couple had to do the proposal in a restricted area. Why not just find somewhere else.
Look I get that area is"off limits" however Disney is exceptionally guest oriented and the way the employee handled the situation was VERY unprofessional. There were so many different ways to do this and whether the Chile was in the wrong or not the employer had a responsibility to be professional and courteous to their guests... who by the way part A LOT of money to be there.
Dam French we should of let them get slaughtered by Germany or maybe they all think he is microns double
