“My Worst Nightmare”: Stranded Passengers Get A Free Concert They Never Asked For
Interview With AuthorThere’s nothing worse than a delayed flight when you’ve been in the air for hours on end. According to TravelPerk, around 37% of flights in the U.S. in 2024 experienced a minor or major delay. There are a few things that can cheer you up at that moment, but would you say that a live performance through the intercom is one of them?
Recently, videos of a girl singing a song from the 2016 animated movie Moana during a two-hour delayed Delta flight started going viral on social media. People divided into two camps: some shamed the kid and her parents for not reading the room. Others were more forgiving: “She’s a kid.”
Bored Panda got in touch with the person who posted that first video, and he kindly agreed to chat with us. He told us why he actually enjoyed the performance and didn’t expect the Internet to spew so much vitriol toward the girl and her parents. Read our conversation with @druziroaming below!

One passenger shared a video with the caption: “Suddenly everything feels okay”
@druziroaming When your Delta flight is delayed 2 hours, and you circle Orlando for another 2… But then a little girl sings Moana on the crew mic, and suddenly everything feels okay 🥹🎤✨ #DeltaAirlines#FlightDelay#OrlandoWeather#Moana#Wholesome#InFlightEntertainment#DisneyMagic#FeelGood♬ som original – Romeu
“I never wanted to harm or traumatize the girl [with] all the comments coming from soulless people,” the person who shared the first video tells Bored Panda
While many may have interpreted @druziroaming’s video and caption as ironic, he tells Bored Panda that the whole ordeal was actually sweet in his eyes.
“I shared the video because I was happy with the experience and opportunity I had to see the girl being brave enough to simply sing to the whole plane, no matter how delayed we were,” the creator told us.
He never expected the video to go viral or get this much attention. “I never wanted to harm or traumatize the girl [with] all the comments coming from soulless people,” he reiterates.
“From my perspective, no one acted inappropriately; neither the parents or the kid, or the flight attendant.” He doesn’t even blame the airline for the delay.
Although some commenters pointed out that this is just one example of many where people ignore basic airplane etiquette, @druziroaming disagrees. “To be honest, I would say [airplane etiquette] has improved,” he believes. “People [are] respectfully waiting to leave the plane, for example.”
In the end, the creator chooses to look at the whole situation positively. “People’s comments are just comments,” he tells us. “I just hope the girl never stops pursuing her dreams and sticks to what she believes. No one’s opinion should impact her in a negative way.”
Another passenger detailed her experience in a different video

The incident took place onboard a Delta flight from Atlanta to Orlando, home of the Walt Disney World® Resort. So, perhaps it’s fitting that a young passenger broke into a song from a Disney animated movie.
The original video that went viral on TikTok was posted by user @druziroaming and now has over 32 million views. But videos of other passengers’ POVs soon started popping up on the platform.
Granted, some were comedy skits using the original sound, while others were from actual passengers from that flight. One of them, Stephanie, aka @stephtravelstories, captioned her first video with “POV: You’re on that delayed flight to Orlando. You’re tired. You’re sweating. And this happens.”
However, Stephanie elaborated on the experience in a follow-up video. She explained that many passengers probably felt the same way as she did since they had to wait 1.5-2 hours to even get on the plane due to delays caused by bad weather.
“She sang the whole song,” the other passenger shared

When the boarding was complete, the passengers had to wait another two hours to get the all-clear from Orlando airport. “We are unable to leave because there’s still some bad weather out here, and Orlando airport is not receiving or letting any flights out,” Stephanie explained. “So, we’re essentially just stuck there until they open the airport for us to fly back home.”
The passengers then heard an announcement from a flight attendant that a young girl wanted to sing a song together from Moana. Stephanie says she thought the girl would sing a portion of the song, but she actually sang the entire number.
When she finished, some people clapped. “There was some scattered applause,” Stephanie says in her video. So, it turns out not everyone was so annoyed. “But it was also very uncomfortable to have been a part of this,” she adds.
Although some people accused these creators of unnecessarily shaming the young girl, Stephanie clarifies that it was her raw, unedited reaction in that moment. “I’m tired, I’m hot, I’m hungry, I’m anxious to get home. And now here I am in this predicament.”
Delta Air Lines released a statement about this whole incident

The girl’s performance on the plane garnered a lot of attention online. People on social media made reactions and parody videos about how it must have felt to be on that plane. Many media outlets covered the story, too.
Delta Air Lines even responded to a request for comment from Newsweek. “We appreciate the customer sharing her talents and apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels,” a spokesperson said.
Generally, airplane etiquette rules dictate that passengers should wear headphones when playing entertainment and not subject their neighbors to unwanted noises. Flight attendants always try to minimize disturbances during flights. That’s why it might seem strange that this flight attendant decided to impose an impromptu performance on the already tired and annoyed passengers.
Commenters called out the girl and her parents for causing a cringefest

Well, if everybody was allowed to sing after... Now, it's my turn and I choose Motörhead's "Ace of Spades".
I would prefer that any day! Sang that really loud in the bathroom of a Holiday Inn (Great acoustics, but my voice sucks, sorry Lemmy RIP) on the way to see them open for Primus! Glad to hear someone would have maybe appreciated it!
Load More Replies...if it's the parent's idea: nope. If it's the girl's idea: cute, but gotta learn that planes are not for that (just like you don't start singing in the bus, loud music on the train or the like)- so nope
I'm not into kids and that would throw me over an edge that I know I wouldn't come back from. I'd be standing up and asking the whole plane if they had valium or something. I wouldn't have been able to stand it. Besides, I've never had a need to see MOANA (and definitely NOT frozen either!!). I'd be the one begging for that kid to stop (or tell the parents to put a gag on it!) Yeah, I know... I'm gonna get a downvote... so be it!
If I ever have to fly again I hope you are next to me. I'm a white knuckle flyer but happy drunk. Just sit someone next to me that can talk about, or doesn't mind, everything from Christmas tree toppers to if that dingo ate their baby.
Load More Replies...Misophonic here. That would have made me scream and claw at a window. Earplugs can't cut that kind of sound. Just because you like something doesn't mean everyone will.
Learned a new word. Thank you. Always looking for solutions. I have tinnitus and Musical Ear Syndrome. 2 ENT's never heard of MES and my wonderful GP that actually had MES and diagnosed my ear crystals and sent me to the correct therapist. But just like me she got the fake Covid 19 before there was a vaccine and had to retire because she had an autoimmune disease. I'm still suffering from my "fake" long Covid and so it's holding up the ear diagnosis' No one wants to work but also no one wants to hire someone who needs days off for Dr.s Appts even if it it doesn't have to do with Covid. Have fun taking off for you mammogram, pap smear, annual physical, therapy session...oh that just ate up all your vacation time because all your dr's are at least a half hour away and there's' parking... FML. Work till we die so we can afford to die.
Load More Replies...I'd consider that an emergency that requires a pull on the cabin door lever
Definitely is the kid’s fault. She’s 12, not 4. Old enough to take some accountability.
Load More Replies...In the video...the lady standing on the right, behind the future pop star: so hilariously bored, hoping for this to be over soon. Is that a flight attendant (but clothes...?) or maybe the mom?
If that happened to me after sitting ON the plane for 2 hours...if I was feeling kind, I would fake a heart attack to get off the plane. If I was feeling unkind (which is the most likely scenario), I would have shut that sh*t down so quick. That is a violation of the Geneva Convention. Not even wartime Canada comes up with horrors this bad.
This would have annoyed the cr*p out of me, would have put in my noise cancelling headphones. More annoying is that the guy who took the video calls himself a "creator." My dude, what are you creating? You took a video of someone singing to the plane.
Sing Moana all you like in public open spaces but not where people can't make the choice to get away from that.
I'm biased because we just had a young lady at the pub who thought two Scottish musicians doing their gig was the perfect background for her to do her own show. Her voice was loud and possibly trained, but squeaky and she didn't sing along with the band but just did her own thing, using the band as an excuse, why her bestie dutifully videotaped every single time she did it. People think they can sing and that they're the Muse's gift to everyone, while, no, you aren't. Do not force people to be your audience.
Pretty sure the woman standing behind her with arms folded is the mother, who almost certainly put the girl up to it, so mom could get her narcissistic viral moment.
You’re correct in that it may not have been the child’s fault, but I have never heard of someone with ASD being put in front of a plane full of people to SING in order to avoid a sensory overload meltdown. If anything, that would be the ultimate trigger.
Load More Replies...Do you realize how out of touch your comment is? You were on a bus full of people who wanted to sing, who were on their way to a SINGING WORKSHOP. All of you had the same interest. No one on this plane volunteered to be a part of this audience. No one paid for this experience. They were hostages. No one had the option of getting up and leaving if they didn’t want to be there. Many people find flying to be a stressful experience, and to have their trip delayed by two hours, and then an impromptu concert was unnecessary at best and a nightmare at worst.
