When I was little I was scared of the dark, but my dad would regularly change pillows with me, and his pillow smelled like him, which made me not scared of the monsters
That's actually how babies work, they can sense if their mother has left by smelling since their eyes haven't developed yet. My mother used to put her shirts near my nose and I wouldn't cry since I thought she was there. I don't blame her since she was working.
I'm not crying, you're crying. I have a hoodie from when we first started dating nearly 2 decades ago. My wife told me sometimes when I travel she wears it. I've never noticed that it's been moved.
Me and my SO do this now, when one of us has to travel alone or be in hospital, we have a tshirt or a sweater from the other one with us to have the smell of the loved person. Helps!
