It’s bizarre to think that if you’re, hypothetically speaking, forced to do something for all eternity, you’d wager it would be something that is also eternally painful or dull or, simply put, anything but pleasant. Well, eating is one thing we’re “doomed” to do for all eternity and so far most of us quite like it.

So much, in fact, that some even form very strong opinions about food, cuisine, and everything in between. And there’s been an AskReddit post about it, with thousands of people sharing their culinary hills they’d die on.

Bored Panda has collected some of the best opinions from the now-viral post, which currently clocks in at nearly 27,000 upvotes, 29,000 comments and 60 Reddit awards. Scroll down to check them out, and while you’re at it, vote on the ones you like and comment your strong opinions in the comment section below!

My big pet peeve is chef's who won't cook a steak a certain way because it ruins the cut. If I want my steak well done, then you should cook it that way... Your preference is not what I pay for.

From what little I know about "higher class chefs," it kind of is. Like, this is the chef's creation, if you change it then it is an insult to the chef, make it yourself or find someone else who cooks it the way you like.

This is why I don't watch the food network. Barefoot Contessa would always piss me off. *"It's such a cheap and affordable cheese you can find at your local store" processes to a specialty store and pays $40 for 1lb of a sub regional cheese*

No..... no..... um.....no. You do not need to REASEARCH the food at an establishment in order to eat there. Asking, for example, for no tomatoes on your food, or asking for your bolengese to be spicy, ect, isn't wrong. The only people that are uncomfortable with changing their food are LINE cooks, not real chefs. What you wrote was polite, but ultimately justifying snob line-cooks that have false celebrity chefs dreams and egos.

Translation, respect people have different tastes which are often influenced by where they are from. "If you were raised on 'possum and collards..." - TT, my great aunt. I've heard people use the saying disparagingly but I was always taught it was about the idea "there isn't just one way to be."

This is a tricky concept. There are levels to this. For instance if I bake and I know my second proof failed and my end result was flawed but tasted good... then it's imperfect. Pretending your food is the best or not recognizing the flaws is no way to cook. You should be striving for perfection. People will respect you more if you explain why it's not as good and why. If your audience are kept in the dark or being foolish, then you've lost your craft. A true chef probably doesn't need a critic to tell them when they failed or why, unless they actually believe they've created something perfect.

This notion swings both ways; I've met a lot more food snobs who only eat simple comfort foods and furiously turn up their noses at "fancy" food than I have people who love fine dining who will refuse those same comfort foods. Similar to people who've never traveled going on about not needing "foreign" countries, versus a well-traveled person who is comfortable everywhere. Refusing experience = a limited life.

I have to admit that being Italian, when I am served food that pretends to be "authentic" but it's not, I can sound snobbish. That is, unless someone cooked it for me, in which case I eat it, smile and thank the host. But if I go to a restaurant, order something I am very familiar with and I get something completely different (like "Bucatini Amatriciana", a pasta with Tomato sauce and bacon but instead I get a creamy sauce with egg and no tomato or bacon) I can get, if not snobbish, at least peeved. Call it something else, but if you offer an established and popular dish for $20 and give me something completely different, screw you.
