Imagine you're in the kitchen making dinner and simply hoping your kid is self-dependent enough to make it back home safely. However, the first thing they do when they see you is hand over a note from their teacher. Yikes. I mean, teachers usually do a really good job maintaining order in the classroom, and guiding their students towards a brighter tomorrow. So if they think the little one acted out in a way that requires parental adjustments, it's probably something... surprising. And that's not the word mothers and fathers like to hear. Good News And Bad News
Experts say it's not unusual for kids to behave differently in different settings. After all, you'd expect a child to act one way at a friend's birthday party and another when visiting the grandparents. But the behavior of some kids — especially those with issues such as anxiety, learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism — can vary much more markedly, especially when they're at home versus school. This discrepancy can leave parents puzzled, if not upset, and worried that they're making huge mistakes.

I'd be upset that she got the line wrong, and pleased that the drawing was so good.
Some kids may meet expectations at school, but if it's a struggle for them, it can take its toll at home. Children with ADHD, anxiety, autism, and learning disabilities "may be using a lot of their resources to follow directions or cope in the classroom," Stephanie Lee, PsyD, a clinical psychologist at the Child Mind Institute, said. Once all these kids get home, "it's challenging for them to conjure up the same amount of resources to manage."
She also added that many kids, in fact, benefit from the consistency, structure, predictability, and routine that come with their school environment. This often cannot be repeated at home "because that's not how life works."

My daughter had a student named Neveah (yeah, Heaven backwards) who didn't have to mind because "I'm a princess." Mom confirmed this. Poor kid has a rude awakening coming, thanks to Mommy.
But for most kids, academic and social demands at school are beyond what they typically face at home, Dr. Lee pointed out. That may trigger problem behaviors they don't exhibit at home.
For example, children with social anxiety who worry about how they're being perceived by others, or children who have anxieties relating to performance, might have fewer problem behaviors at home but when they get to school and have to do math or read a passage aloud, they might engage in some negative behaviors to avoid that. “Acting out in this particular situation might end up being functional for them," Dr. Lee said, "because if they act a little silly, the teacher might scold them, but then they move on."

I would enquire as to the cause of Lillian's threat. It could be legitimate self assertion. As in "If you don't take your hand off my butt, I will turn around and punch you in the nuts." Girls need to taught that they have the right to defend themselves against harassment and intimidation; immediately, loudly, and if necessary, physically.

Probably he was trying to impress a classmate. When I was in 1st grade, I wrote SH*T on my crayon box to impress a girl sitting next to me. Her response was to raise her hand and tattle. The teacher confiscated the crayon box and showed it to my mom when she came pick me up, that afternoon. As punishment, my mom took me grocery shopping with her and made we wear the crayon box on my head, emblazoned with that naughty word for all to see.

What age is this child? I think using "penis" and "pooping" is quite appropriate- children need to learn what their body parts are called and what their use is... if the child had used other terminology, I'd be more concerned. As a parent I would have a frank talk with him.

Many of these make me wonder how they'll keep the kids from getting Covid. Little ones by their very natures are impulsive and are constantly touching each other. Good luck teachers. No idea how you're going to do this.

Little secret here ... we won t keep them from getting covid, teachers will try, try their very best but the measures in place in the US and UK are simply far from enough... and the sad thing is, teachers will most likely catch it too while they try to keep your little ones as safe as they can...

for real! I worked in a pre-school we never ever wrote note saying their kids isn't listening lol NO CHILD LISTENES AND BEHAVES 100% of the time. it was our job to keep them engaged and interested.. if they weren't they we just try something else!

I really hope that teachers talk to children to understand reasons behind their behaviour, before they write a note. Still feel upset from preschool when teacher was saying to my parents i'm "a liar" :) when in fact I loved fantasizing, like drawing unreal situations (like moms portrait on a postage stamp, like she would be the queen, or dad driving taxi, even though it wasn't his job). When asked by parents why did I lie, didn't know what to answer, all I knew that it's something bad I did and shouldn't be fantasizing anymore :( Hope I will always always find a time to talk and understand my children properly, no matter the age.

I am sorry that you had to go through that. My niece had a similar experience -- she told her 1st grade PE teacher that she was born in South Africa and spun a whole story around it. The PE teacher told my niece it made her sad when kids lied, and then called my sister at work. My poor sister wrote me an email with the heading "I have a horrible child". I wrote her back and told her the PE teacher was full of it (she did end up being a piece of work), that her credential program didn't involve her actually learning about how kids develop. I reassured her that her daughter's fantasizing was quite normal for her age. PE teachers can get away with being oblivious, maybe, but teachers in preschool programs are supposed to know all that. It's crazy where the world is going(starting with the USA). Most of these letters are useless, because it's about an issue, that doesn't need reporting to parents. Growing up in the nineties, we all did these stuff more or less and the teachers handled it in the school and that was it. We grew up to be normal people, with jobs, families and socially integrated. Nowadays a kid is reported to the parents if he/she says"butt" at class, the student reports the teachers and parents if they try to moderate him,and the parents reports the teacher if that gives a bad grade to it's kid, all this, while mommy/daddy is watching the kid in school, on webcam online. Thankfully most of Europe is not this f*ucked Up...yet.

Yeah, it's not that simple. Kids go home and talk about how they got in trouble, and they "didn't do anything!" In some settings, if children are disciplined for anything, the teachers need to send home a note as documentation. For one reason, to stave off the "You're just picking on my child" nonsense. And for another, to keep parents from saying, "But she/he has never done that before!" when they move on in school and act up with another teacher. I can also tell you that some of those notes look like they are from a behavior plan. Which means their behavior has gotten to the point where regular notes have to go home about how the day went. I have had to do more than one of those.

I don't understand these teachers. Unbelievable that most of these teachers took the comments on a 1st degree. Kids try out naught words to see the reactions of adults. The teachers just have to explain that it's not right and it makes others uncomfortable. For lies, kids live in fantasy world or try to outsmart others. Don't worry and make a big deal of it, as long nobody gets hurt.

Now I just remember 1st grade me and my (now ex) bestfriend cutting off literally a fingernail's length of hair and gluing it onto a little piece of paper and giving them to each other. The teacher gave us this disgusted look, and screamed at us for 10 minutes about why that was disgusting and then made us, 2 barely 6-year-olds, write an apology letter to her and our parents, for cutting off basically a gecko's head length of hair to give as a promise to each other that we'd be bffs forever. Some adults are a bit... much...
