Handmade Ghost Ship

This is sad. My mother has alzhiemers. I went to visit her and she said that she said that she had no idea who I was but she was glad to see me.
Load More Replies...So sad. But as a collection it is very much like watching the person just fade away, just like I had to do with my grandmother.
This reminds me of the kid who did self portraits while under the influence of different drugs. Look it up. It's pretty horrifying.
There is a museum in Switzerland where all the paintings and sculptures are made by mentally ill patients of a nearby hospital. I went there with my class in high school. It was very disturbing.

Lucia is a writer, editor, the creator of the website The Ghost In My Machine, and author of the book “Dangerous Games To Play In The Dark.” “For instance, fear does some interesting things to us, physically and psychologically; it puts our bodies into a state of high alert, often triggering the fight-or-flight response and releasing adrenaline and endorphins,” she continued. “Some people enjoy the feelings and sensations these responses inspire, while others don't.”
Lucia explained that there's been some research into why some folks like being scared and others don't. “For example, it's been found that people who score highly on specific personality traits associated with thrill-seeking tend to enjoy being scared more than those who don't score as highly on those types of traits,” she said and added that there are so many factors at play, like environment, personal experience, etc.
A Friend Went For A Walk The Other Night And Saw This Woman Just Standing On A Roof
Had a woman with dementia live in the apartment next to us and she would do buzzard stuff hopefully that’s not. Sleep walker or someone with dementia
Sleep walking is more likely, imo-I read about this teen girl who sleepwalked all the way to a metal beam hanging from a crane.
Load More Replies...Maybe she is looking at or for something. When we were kids my sister and I would go on the roof to spy on the neighbors ... they were never doing anything, we just liked playing spy.
Yeah, when my sister was on her teens and went out with friends, her carfew was 12ish, so at 11.55 my dad went to the roof just to see her come safe.
Load More Replies...Famine Memorial In Dublin
Ever wonder if the COVID HORROR could lead to something like this. Note the elevation in prices of everything. I know a lot of older people who can't afford to eat properly and to pay for medications at the same time!
Load More Replies...One more reason I'm not proud to be British, as many soldiers from England left the citizens to die in ditches, gutters, etc. They could have stopped the famine but chose not to. And that has been whitewashed from history.
Thanks for being honest about history! It's a unspoken truth, unfortunately. Ireland produced a lot of other types of food during those years but they forcefully exported out of the country by British Imperials. 'Poaching' was punished by execution by some accounts. "The famine" is essentially a genocide by forcing a population to starve slowly. At least Hitler did things relatively fast.. it's also a historical fact that Winston Churchill was involved in creating the Bengal Famine in 1943 (killed 3million humans). Just so you know, I bare no I'll will towards the regular British folk who grew up in the shadow of their ancestors atrocities. Being aware of the reality of it is all I could ever ask. And that Sir/Madam, you have done. Hats off to you!
Load More Replies...I learnt about the famine in history when I was at school in Ireland. The true horror of it was that it was ONLY the potatoes that didn't grow because of the blight, everything else was fine. ALL other food were fine and readily available but the British wouldn't let the Irish have any as it was all imported back to Britain. If anyone was caught taking even the smallest bit of "forbidden food" they were jailed and ended up on a prison ship bound for Australia and they never saw their families or Ireland again. Most died on the grueling trip to Australia, the rest were then used as cheap labour in the colonies. This is not taught in English schools. I know so as I moved to England and my history teacher was talking about the strained relationship between England and Ireland in the past and he wondered why it had got so bad. I said "well the famine didn't help. He had NO idea what I what I was talking about. He like every other British person wasn't taught this. He had no idea it was so bad. That's the difference between Britain and Germany. Yes Germany had the terrible Nazis and the true horrors of the concentration camps, but they have gone out of their way to apologise and own their evil doings. They educate their children in what they did and how wrong it was and now anything associated with Nazism is strictly illegal over there. The British attitude is "let's just sweep this under the carpet and never talk about it and we can forget it ever happened." It is just so shameful. I am British I moved to Ireland when I was 1 and unfortunately ashamed to be.
That is atrocious. One can only I hope that one day, things will change... everywhere.
Load More Replies...Same old repetitive story. The rich exploiting the poor. Sure, the disease was potato blight, but it was the British Whig government and absentee landlords that brought it to the extreme.
The Potato Famine was real in Ireland...not a made up story....many thousands of people died of starvation.
Yes! Roughly 25% of the population either died, were transported to a penal colony, or forced to emigrate to North America/Australia. It's so sad!
Load More Replies...When I think of what my poor ancestors went through, it really is horrifying. The English laughing at the. , saying there’s help , when there was clearly none . The word false hope sums that up in history
According to her, narrowing it down to one, specific answer is difficult (and probably doesn't really serve us well, anyway).
Speaking of herself, Lucia said that she was fearful as a child. “Scared of seemingly everything -- and eventually, I started wanting to understand exactly why I was so scared of so many things.” Therefore, she started “deconstructing horror stories and other spooky things, and along the way, she started to really enjoy the little frisson she got, like “the shiver running up and down my spine and exploring spooky things.”
“And this, too, can be a big factor as to whether someone enjoys being scared or not -- some folks enjoy the sense of mastery they get over making it through a spooky experience,” Lucia said.
Xylaria Polymorpha Is A Saprobic Fungus Commonly Known As Dead Man’s Fingers
I bet these have freaked many many many people out~ imagine finding this in the woods.
Is it near the cave system and missing persons map from the other post on this list?! Mystery solved....
There are so many different kinds of fungi in the world, and so many of them are weird as hell. (In a cool way!)
This Wasp Nest
Ooh that's like the nest in the corpse in Hannibal. A thousand nopes!
I guess one day they saw a human child and thought, "hey, this would be a really nice structure for our hive!"
“It's also worth noting that everyone finds the same things creepy or scary. For example, body horror or gore doesn't do much for me, but I love a good ghost story; I'm also very fond of the uncanny -- that is, when something looks familiar, but feels just a little bit... off. But some folks feel the opposite: They find ghost stories or the uncanny boring and love body horror and gore. And that's just personal preference!”

Saint Bartholomew
He was said to have been skinned and beheaded in Armenia for converting the king to Christianity. He's the patron saint of dermatology.
This statue is located in the Milan Cathedral and has terrified entire generations of children! :)

Looks like a work by Gunther von Hagens. If you've not seen his plastinations you should check him out.
According to Lucia, not everyone finds the same things creepy or spooky. “When it comes to the variety of spooky storytelling we find online, though--whether it's in words, pictures, video, or some combination of the above--the most effective pieces of work tend to be the ones that blur the lines of reality and fiction.”
She continued: “think pieces of art that add fictional entities or monsters to real photographs (that's how Slenderman began, after all), short stories that have a kernel of truth in them somewhere ("Abandoned By Disney" does this really well), and the like: Deep down, we know that these images and stories are fictional -- but they look or feel just real enough to make us wonder, ‘What if...?’”
Factory Farm
Disgusting. Just remember that with any purchase of non-organic meat, eggs and dairy you make a choice for this. (Slighly stricter laws does not really make the living conditions less disgusting.)
Noooo people living in poverty wages don’t have the luxury of using their budget to effect change. Which is why more people being in poverty is what corporate America loves

Positive Evolutionary Pressure, just like COVID, will raise the average IQ of our species.
Load More Replies...Lucia believes that the roots of the fears remain similar, although the ways in which they're expressed can change or evolve over time. “Take the fear of the dark, for instance -- a fear that's been around for basically all of human existence. Often, what being afraid of the dark is really about is being afraid of the unknown. We can't see what's lurking outside our little circle of light; it's masked by the darkness. Anything could be out there; it's the not-knowing that scares us,” she explained.
“Then, consider some of the fears associated with the internet--the kinds we see in horror films like Unfriended, The Den, or Cam. Although the medium here is obviously modern--the internet is very young, comparatively speaking!--these fears, too, tap into the fear of the unknown: We don't really know who or what might be hiding behind those screen names. Again, just as it is with the dark, it's the not-knowing that scares us,” Lucia concluded.

I was in Dachau with high school. The chills when you enter the camp. And yes this room and the gas chambers are the most terrifying. I will never forget that feeling.
Dachau only had one gas chamber, which was never used though. Certainly doesn't lessen the horrors of the crematorium. But Dachau wasn't used as a mass execution site.

You're not the only one. Did you go to the town? We drove to it, thinking that we can get something to eat or drink - but it's like a ghost town. Driving around, we only saw a handful of people, and they were looking at us like we are weirdos. lol. Our Czech friends say that no one really goes there, except for the concentration camp. I can see where someone, who didn’t know what they were and only just caught a brief glimpse of them in a dark forest anyway, could think they were ghosts or something.
They just look like two guys standing around with their hands in their pockets.
Baby barn owls to be specific, to.add to the weirdness off it all the rattle their beaks at you and hiss to make you go away. If you are by their nest at night, they would like a woman being accosted because they screech to get fed, and they are bottomless pits. The first time I heard them screaming I was sure I needed to call 911 until I figured it out. This is why I seen people do not put barn our boxes near their home
Bored Panda also spoke with S. Elizabeth, writer and creator of the “Unquiet Things” blog, as well as the author of “The Art of the Occult: A Sourcebook For The Modern Mystic” book. She is particularly interested in horror, the supernatural, and death. “I can tell you that for myself, there’s something cathartic about spending time with scary material, whether it’s a ghost story or a slasher film, etc.,” S. Elizabeth explained her fascination with creepy things.
“You’re engaging with this material from a really passive place, you can experience the threat or menace vicariously--and sure, if it’s particularly well written or well-directed or if the actors and the effects are spectacular, it might become such an immersive experience that for a time you feel like you’re right there in the thick of it.”

Hmmmm. Public citizens really don't have access to license plate information. You know who does? Cops.
This was some angry bicyclist who Mark had accidently cut off while making a right hand turn into a parking garage.
The writer continued: “But you’re not. You can mark your page and close the book when you’ve had enough scares for the night. You can pause the movie and go to sleep. There’s no danger that Michael Myers is going to stab you, that the zombie is going to eat your brains. You’re already the Final Girl.”
Having said that, S. Elizabeth added that “as a woman, I already feel vulnerable in this world, whether I am in a horror movie or not. (And in recent years, it really has been starting to seem more and more like a weird dystopian horror film.) So many of us don’t make it out alive. Horror movies, scary stories, creepy media--I think consuming this type of thing gives us a sense of control in a world that no longer makes any sense,” she explained.

bunraku puppets are amazing, they're generally operated by at least two or three people, the mechanisms in them are so incredibly complex
When asked what is it about certain creepy stories that affect us so profoundly, S. Elizabeth said that “I can point to a lot of elements, but they all boil down to one core piece of the puzzle: that something fundamentally feels very wrong. The stories in which things happen when they shouldn’t, people are somehow where they couldn’t possibly be.”
She gave us some examples: “The television that powers on suddenly, even though it’s unplugged. The face you see just outside your window even though you’re on the third floor. The emails you begin receiving from a friend who died half a year ago. The sibling who goes away on vacation and comes back changed, not themselves. It’s their face, but it’s somehow not them anymore.”
S. Elizabeth said that “this sense of wrongness is made that much troubling and lonely and desperate when you realize you seem to be the only one who notices these uncanny goings-on.” According to her, if a creepy story has any of these elements, it’s bound to have an impact on us and give us a sleepless night or two.

This new research conducted by David Zald shows that people differ in their chemical response to thrilling situations. Dopamine, one of the main hormones released during scary and thrilling activities, depends on each individual. To put it simply, some get more of a kick out of the same amount of dopamine. According to Zald, some brains lack something that he calls “brakes” on the dopamine release and reuptake in the brain. As a result, they will be enjoying more thrilling, scary, and risky situations than the rest.

According to Dr. Margee Kerr, a staff sociologist at ScareHouse, a haunted house in Pittsburgh that takes all year to plan, for anyone to really enjoy scary situations, they must know it’s a safe environment. “It’s all about triggering the amazing fight-or-flight response to experience the flood of adrenaline, endorphins, and dopamine, but in a completely safe space. Haunted houses are great at this—they deliver a startle scare by triggering one of our senses with different sounds, air blasts, and even smells,” she told The Atlantic.

The Stairs I Have To Take To Leave Work
They can’t even put a f*****g light down there? That’s just evil and twisted. I would raise a real stink about safety—-you can’t see the bottom of the stairs or the door, ffs!
omg! this brought back the creeps for me. when i was in college i got a job working from 11pm to 7am at a produce farm. since the grower shipped world wide my job was to get the orders/faxes/calls that came in from the differing time zones. had to walk through unlit open harvest room to dimly lit stairs up to office that overlooked the floor. told owner it made me nervous since building out in the fields middle of no where. he arranged for a couple of his field workers to sleep in the building when i was scheduled so i wouldn't be frightened as well as not being alone. also provided a decent bed under the stairs and cell phone for them in addition to decent pay for literally sleeping on the job. owner was a good man to all his employees.
"I'm telling you, if you start working for us you would never want to leave."
You surely never climbed the stairs in a Dutch house from the 1800's. They are a trap.
I bet they just focused the light above the stairs with the camera, therefore dimming the bottom of the stairs.
Moreover, according to Dr. Kerr, “these senses are directly tied to our fear response and activate the physical reaction, but our brain has time to process the fact that these are not “real” threats. Our brain is lightning-fast at processing threat. I’ve seen the process thousands of times from behind the walls in ScareHouse—someone screams and jumps and then immediately starts laughing and smiling. It’s amazing to observe."

Fun fact: The Babadook is a queer icon. It's actually quite a fascinating story as to how that came about and for those interested, I'd suggest you Google it and read about it.
Interestingly, Dr.Kerr believes that fear is also something that’s culturally and socially constructed. She suggests that “when we look across time and across the world, we find that people truly can become afraid of anything.” An exemplary case of this phenomenon is Baby Albert.
“The poor child was made deathly afraid of white rabbits in the 1920s before researchers were required to be ethical. So we know that we can learn to fear, and this means our socialization and the society in which we are raised is going to have a lot to do with what we find scary,” Dr. Kerr told The Atlantic.
Other creepy things that many cultures find scary are creatures of different kinds, like semi-human creatures, creatures from an outer world, supernatural monsters, and things that defy the laws of nature in some way.

Similar thing happened where I live, there's the old church/abbey and graveyard on top of the cliffs here, and one year the rain was so heavy it caused a landslide on the cliff above, which rained down onto homes below, revealing human remains. Fortunately, the remains were able to be reinterred and there hasn't been any more erosion/landslides since, as far as I remember, and this is going back to 2012/2013 ish.

Just Bought A House. Found This In The Basement. Sealed Tight
From the original reddit post: "UPDATE: I have solved the mystery of the basement hatch. It is more underwhelming than I had ever imagined. It just goes outside, behind the bushes. https://imgur.com/a/UaFzLeb" ___ AND ___ "UPDATE: I have a bizarre epilogue. I was just contacted by THE GUY WHO BUILT THE HATCH. Ten years ago, he says, the stairs in front of the house collapsed in a tornado. The then-owner used the opportunity to rebuild the stairs with a tornado shelter underneath. However, once the shelter was built, he became concerned that if the house collapsed in a storm, he might be trapped in the shelter. As some have suggested, the hatch truly is an emergency exit. The eye bolts make the hatch too strong to break open from outside, but can be easily removed to escape from within if the house crumples while you are in the shelter. The builder saw this thread on Reddit, then looked me up on Twitter and found contact info to send me an explanation. It's a small world, my dudes."
Could be a coal shaft. Had one in an older home I once owned. Used for coal delivery into the basement.
I would have to know what was behind it. There is no way i could not look. I love a good mystery.
Hahaha. That’s just an old coal shaft. We inherited one in our house as well. Smart to block them off from critters and small children! I love how it has become “creepy!”😂
Probably for a Dumbwaiter. The shaft leading upstairs could easily be covered with panels and plaster board. Concrete not so much. Or it might be a chute for coal.
Old coal hatch would be my guess. Depending on where this is and age of the home.
An Iris Growing Over A Pupil
We actually ALL have this! But we have it in the fetal stage of our development. It usually resolves in a very large majority of people, but in some, it persists after we are born. It is called a "Persistent pupillary membrane". Yes, it can affect vision, causing cataracts and clouded visual fields.

Soooooo... if it was truly witches...as in Wiccans... the pentacle would likely be point up. I'm sure there are some who'd place it point down but to most Wiccans a pentacle point down is the equivalent of an upside down cross to a Christian. I'd say this is a wannabe playing around.
The only true "creepy" thing I find in this photo is how the melted candle wax (in the middle of the table) has a STRONG resemblance to human LEG BONES from the knee cap down to the "toes."

More fun scorpion baby facts, the baby scorpions here are in a very helpless state, and their stingers are blocked off and not sharp. This gives them time to build up enough venom so that when they molt into their first independent form they have sufficient reserves to hunt and defend themselves.

And fear. Homemade costumes and Halloween-type mischief sounds way more fun than the watered down dull crap “parties” people do today. At least when I was a kid (sixties and early seventies), we could still go trick or treating door to door in the neighborhood. Oddly, the two best houses everyone wanted to go to were a family around the block where the grandfather, Leo, grew and roasted his own peanuts (they were really really good), and our neighbor, who owned an apple orchard and gave out apples that had still been hanging on her trees that morning (hard to get any fresher than that, and they were scrumptious).

Tarantula Infected With Cordycipitaceae
If you want a real zombie scare, look this parasitic fungi up. It jumped from plants to animals, so is only one hop away from humans....
Fungal infections are one of the areas of greatest concern to human health in the future. They are more common in hospitals than even many medical professionals realise, extremely resistant to treatment, and have a high mortality rate. Research into new treatments is limited and not well funded.
