Found A Creepy Room In A Hidden Crawl Space In My New Home
A crawl space behind the door contained a safe, briefcase (with money of various countries and origins, silver ingots, jewelry), a stack of mysterious videotapes (one of them was labeled "No no no no"), and a note that said “save yourself”
While some of the creepy discoveries in this list may indeed look unsettling and raise some doubts whether the place you just moved into is really fine, some people encounter way more serious issues. Think of hard-to-explain sightings, sounds, or smells… How do you know your new home is not haunted?
Well, to find out, Bored Panda reached out to Greg Newkirk, full-time paranormal investigator and founder of the world’s only mobile museum of the unexplained. For the last two and a half decades, Newkirk has been tracking down and investigating cases of high strangeness ranging from flying saucer crashes to cursed artifacts and everything in between.

“If you just moved into a house and it doesn't feel quite right, remember that anything but a brand new home has spent years soaking up the experiences, actions, and emotions of the people who have lived inside it,” Newkirk explained. It turns out that many paranormal researchers—including himself—believe that intense emotional states can create some kind of lingering bond with a location, which most people can pick up on unconsciously, the investigator explained.
“My advice, as silly as it might sound, is to talk to your new home, introduce yourself, explain why you're there and that you plan to care for the space. This kind of introduction can make a big difference, because even if you don't believe in ghosts or the paranormal, it can act as a kind of positive affirmation that will help you settle in.”

There's A Room In The Attic Where I Just Moved. Pretty Sure Nothing Good Happened Here
There are no neighbors near enough to hear someone yelling if they were in here...
Hard to tell, but the door is only 4 feet tall and 1.5 feet across (lamp for scale). It's got a light built into it and is painted light green. Metal grate on inside and outside of the door. Ceiling at its highest is a little over 4 feet. I'm hunched down to take these pics.
This is a creepy room upstairs at the far end of the attic at the house I just moved into. This house is overall about 60 years old, and apparently, the previous owner was the head of a church (don't know if that means priest or what)
that looks more like a prison cell, that would be playing in my mind all the time, of what realy happened there.
Ok, so to me that looks like a super cool loft-type clubhouse for kids… my kids would be ECSTATIC to have that cool of a room in the attic to hang out and play in!
Load More Replies...I think I would casually mention this to local authorities. That is creepy as hell.
People used to put autistic children in attic 'cells' long before there was any diagnosis or understanding. Just saying.
Omg seriously that's awful I've never heard that my youngest is autistic what the hell is wrong with people
Load More Replies...The least bad thing that is is a Leviticus-screaming Jesus freak locking his kids up in there when they “sinned.”
Ok, only crazy Christians do this, not decent ones
Load More Replies...Honestly that is a nice extra room. If I were a kid I would have loved it. I liked secrete little hiding places where I could be alone. You couldn't drag me out of that if I was a kid.
I feel the same way, this would have been an awesome playroom as a kid.
Load More Replies...THIS. I would like an update 😨🤢 my mind is getting weird.
Load More Replies...It got waaay more frightening when I read "the previous owner was the head of a church".
This looks like something from a movie where the family keeps their handicapped or disfigured childred hidden from the world
It could be a disappointment room; a room where a child with physical or mental limitations was kept as they were a disappointment to the family.
Oh I never have heard the term disappointment room, I've known about the concept but I never knew there was a name
Load More Replies...Something definitely bad happened there. I'd be searching the local paper, asking the neighbors who have lived there for a long time. Going to the police department to ask what they know.
My mom had a house with a room like this in the basement, tiny steel door (4 foot by 3 foot). She was told it was used as a kid playroom. Creeped me and my kids out pretty bad though.
I mean, there's not telling if the previous use was nefarious or not, but it doesn't have to be. The attic could be spruced up and that could be turned into a nice quiet place to relax
Could it be a makeshift confessional??? I'm trying real hard to find an innocent explanation.
Yeah… I was thinking people looking to unburden themselves in a more comfortable scenario than at church, would come over, casually walk up into the priests bedroom and then into the master closet, then up into the the farthest corner of the totally normal attic, so that they can have confessional. Oh and in case you are tired from the 10 min hike up into your ideal confessing hole, there will be a jail cell cot and metal grates on the “window” provided…..so you can rest. 🤣 I was thinking the same thing. Lol
Load More Replies...It's called a disappointment room. They were built to hide family members, often children, who were disabled.
This looks like it could be a decent room for someone after it's fixed up.
Did you find holes in the door or frame where a lock could be fitted on the outside? I would think this was a kennel for a dog, but the presence of the bunk and how high the doorknob is mounted =/ I really hope my suspicions aren't true.
Priest holes were concealed spots created especially for priests, so they could hide away safely during a time when Catholics were persecuted. Under Queen Elizabeth I, priests were often imprisoned, tortured and even killed. Priest holes were specially disguised within a house to baffle search parties.
There a room similar in my grandma's attic, they had 13 kids so they made a very small bedroom in the attic.
I would very definitely canvas all the neighbors and long time residents to see if anyone has any information. Maybe something in public records will help too, courthouse will let you search them online for free.
That is actually a pretty nice attic, considering. I would loved to have had a small coveted space like that, as a reading nook on cold winter nights.......with some blankets and pillows and some soft lighting. That would have been amazing.
I don't see a latch or any sort of locking mechanism on the door, so I doubt it was built to contain anyone.
Reminds me of a book I read recently. A girl was kidnapped and held in a place like that.
If you're looking for signs that your new home might be haunted, Newkirk said that you won't have to look too hard. “In my experience, hauntings in residential homes exist primarily to draw the residents' attention to something—whatever is causing the haunting *wants* you to see, hear, or feel it.”
Moreover, “common experiences in haunted homes range from the subtle feeling of being watched all the way up to visual manifestations of what we'd call ghosts. I've found that the longer you go without acknowledging these kinds of anomalies, the more pronounced they'll get until they're basically demanding your attention,” he explained.

Found In The Basement At An Estate Sale
I Should Never Have Opened The Attic
If you're worried that you might be moving into a haunted house, the professional investigator urges you to choose curiosity instead of fear. “Parapsychologists have long believed that there is a strong link between the unconscious mind and ghostly experiences, so when it comes to hauntings, consider that maybe it's *you* with the 'unfinished business,' and not the ghost.”

However, “if you remain open to the experience and explore the possibility that a haunting may very well be a product of your own powerful subconscious attempting to communicate important information, you'll find that these experiences are far less scary than they are enlightening. Sure, maybe your ghost is the lingering construct of a dead person, but those are easy to deal with—they just want to talk,” Newkirk explained.

The professional investigator reminded us that “if you are seeing things, hearing things, or feeling things that are scary—especially if they're instructing you to do things that are out of character—it's always a good idea to speak with a medical professional before calling in a ghost hunter.” He concluded that “you'd be surprised how many paranormal experiences are cleared up with a visit with a doctor!”

Man Finds A Secret Room In His New House That Contains Tons Of Ammunition, Guns, And Grenades
Just moved into my first house about 2 weeks ago. Just starting to get settled in. Bought the house for a very cheap price. The previous owner was very old and passed away. The house is very old, but for the price, it was perfect for a first house.
When I first toured the house the basement was way worse than it is now. The previous owner hadn't moved anything out yet. The basement was pretty full with junk. They cleaned most of the stuff in the basement out, so I had to clear some stuff out. But here it is now with some stuff that I don't really need and will probably get rid of soon.
While sorting things out in the basement I noticed this sheet of plywood that oddly fit in. I have had the house for 2 weeks and never noticed it. I decided that I didn't want to keep it down there so I tried to move it. It is pinched pretty hard against the stairs so it was pretty hard to get out.
When I finally got it to move I noticed there was something behind. At this point is when I got my phone and started taking pictures
how old where they..?? it could be a bunker from ww2 depending where u live

There's A Multi-Room Dungeon/Cave In The Backyard Of The House I Rented
I rented this cool house in the hills of a Los Angeles suburb and there is a lot of DIY stonework on the property - little walls, an archway, steps and this dungeon built into the hill right behind the house. The history I've gathered is that a stonemason lived here for decades until he passed away from old age in the 90s, when the current owner purchased the property and began renting it. No one I've talked to knows what the dungeon was used for

Load More Replies...We fuond that the previous owners never had the ductwork cleaned. You want horror? That bill.
I found a bunch of baby teeth individually wrapped in tissue paper, in a keepsake tin, figured the previous occupants--an elderly couple who had moved into an assisted living place--had simply forgotten them. I guessed that they had kept their kids'/grandkids' teeth as part of the "tooth fairy" thing. Got their new address from the landlord and mailed the box to them. Proud of my good deed, I mentioned it to Holly, my neighbor. "That's funny," she said. "They didn't have children."
Sooo, it's possible you just freaked out a lovely elderly couple by mailing them an unsolicited box of teeth? 🤨😀
Load More Replies...We might have written cryptic messages on the wall before laying out the acoustic insulation, I wonder if it'd ever make one of those lists when we sell the house!
This gives me so many good ideas of what to do in our crawl space and attic before we ever move out! Love it!
I learned from this that people like to leave teeth and dolls behind when moving.
We rent a converted storefront on the main street of "TrekTown." Building's about 100 years old. Thought there was a closet in the back corner of the living room when we first moved in... Turns out to be a stairwell that goes down to a brick-walled basement that's chronically damp and leaking. But the scary part is that there's this little closet-like room (no door) with a concrete slab bed (about 12" clearance beneath it, built straight into the wall) occupying most of the floor space. Whole room is about the size of a jail cell.
I should not have looked at this. I should not have looked at this. I SHOULD NOT HAVE LOOKED AT THIS! I don't believe in supernatural stuff, but I still get super creeped out by it. Now, I'm off to go find a post about cats.
Does anyone, the realtor or buyer, even go into these houses before they buy them?
The superstitious credulity expressed in these posts is what scares me, because it's a constant reminder that even in this supposed age of science and reason, vast swaths of humanity have intellectually barely advanced beyond cave dwellers. Let me try and help... Here's a list of things you should be wary of in life: Large carnivores and wild animals. People... Here's an incomplete list of things that are harmless and should not cause any kind of rational fear: Clowns. Dolls. Ouija boards (see following list). Rocking chairs. Attics. Basements. The dark. Old hospitals. Unidentified creaking sounds in an old house at night... Here's a list of things that do not exist, and so shouldn't ever worry you: Ghosts. Evil spirits. Demons. Witches. Curses. Aliens. (I would add other items to this last list, but I'm probably already going to be downvoted into oblivion).
Unidentified creaking sounds in an old house at night *could* be people or wild animals, so that one should be allowed to cause rational fear.
