Preparing an older design piece, we contacted Nicole Phillips, a creative working in the industry since 2005 with a background in fine arts and advertising. Phillips specializes in logo design, branding, and package design for food & beverage, beauty, health, and interior design clients, and she said that design is a process that requires research, experimentation, and even a bit of psychology.
"When I feel frustrated with the process, I remind myself to take a step back, have fun, and play," Phillips told Bored Panda back then. "It's those moments of play and experimentation that usually create the best results, but it's those hours of research that help build the foundation for the final result."
"My clients are not paying me for my time, they are paying me for my many years of experience, so if I am able to complete the design process in 5 hours rather than 5 weeks, this is a sign of my years of experience and knowledge, this is valuable," she added.

In the US, there is no standard outlet orientation, they can be installed facing whichever way you wish. I almost exclusively see them installed vertically in residential installations (with the ground pin either up or down) because it is somewhat cheaper to do that way.

When people are trying to figure out if a particular design is any good, they often turn to Dieter Rams and his '10 commandments.' According to Rams, good design is innovative, makes a product useful, is aesthetic, makes a product understandable, is unobtrusive, is honest, is long-lasting, is thorough down to the last detail, is environmentally friendly, and involves as little design as possible.
Nicole Phillips agrees with the German design legend.
"Good design includes a good balance of function, form, and fun," Phillips said. "The user shouldn't have to try too hard to get what they need from the design. Good design isn't just aesthetics, it should communicate well and push boundaries a bit. Good design solves problems."

Interestingly, this is the style of tire they have to use for wheeled excursions on bodies that aren't Earth! Pressurized tires only really work in an atmosphere, which most of the celestial bodies we can reach don't have or lack any significant amount of it. Rovers tend to use metal mesh instead of rubber, though...

It seems to me that a lot of accessories were made very elegantly in the 1920s. I have a couple old compacts that are really works of art, meant to be carried in an evening bag. I have seen small evening bags that are just magical, and things like miniature brush and comb sets that are really beautiful. I guess it got to be too expensive to continue making quality items like that.

I wonder if these could finally convince people that a third cup really is more than a quarter cup. I'm thinking of people who refused to buy a 1/3 lb burger because the 1/4 lb was bigger... or the woman who wrote "I don't like things very sweet, so I only used 1/3 cup of sugar instead of the 1/4 cup the recipe called for..." sigh.

They should stack properly if you go from largest to smallest because each successive fraction cup is smaller than the last, and it looks like it has been made with a tapered base, so the bases should fit in each other.

It's dried coffee, a little hot water will get rid of it even without any brush. Also, the groove looks wide enough to easily be able to insert the corner of a sponge, some brush bristles or similar into it if there still is some residue.

As someone who's had four-footed pets all my life, I think this is a terrible design. The faucet type is overkill, and it looks like it'd make filling the bowls more awkward, not less. Marble, which is porous, stains easily and is a pain to clean, is an awful choice for a surround. The height can't be adapted, and the step merely means that any smaller pets are going to be standing at an angle. Well, except the cats will just jump up, and then scatter everything out of the nook. Which would serve the designer right.

It actually doesn't smell. When we dry the shoes this way there is no humidity that allows the bacteria to create that disgusting scent of death from your shoes. -One more of the reasons why I like the winter; the hallway smell better :D

I actually have this exact hourglass!! The way it works is that it's filled with clear liquid and then there's this red "sand" which has a lower volume, so it floats to the top. It takes about 10 minutes, but it's not as consistent in tracking time as regular hourglasses. It's just very cool 😂

What's the advantage, though? If that was just an extension of the tray to the right of it, I could put a pitcher there if I wanted, or something else if I wanted something else there. Like this, I can only fit the pitcher there, so if I don't need it, the space is wasted, and if I ever manage to lose or destroy the pitcher, it'd be rendered completely useless. Thanks, but no thanks.

Each is independent and has no wires. Each number is set by the owner and contains it's own controls and power supply. These are not currently commercially available due to the cost of the OLED screens. Kibardin Design is the brand.

This is a good idea. When I first read it, I thought it was saying that the gum itself has little pieces of paper in it. (Dentyne, of course, is wrapped in wax paper. I used to chew the paper when I couldn't figure out what to do with it, which wasn't 100% pleasant.)

Yes, tables which can be extended are pretty common, but how much you can extend them? Half a meter on each side or so? This one doubles in length, I never saw table which can do that. And looks amazing.

The Victorians had tables that would extend many times their length, just like this. The frame had multiple extenders and you put leaves in to make the table. The problem was storing the leaves. More modern designs store the leaves within the table, so are contstrained by how much you can store.

My husband and I just got an alarm clock that gradually becomes brighter as your wake up time approaches. By the time your alarm is reached, it's like the sun is pouring into the room. You can also set it to have birds chirping at louder intervals as you go along. Much more relaxing wake up than a screeching alarm or a loud radio.

Some clever ideas, but mostly novel gadgets that people get tired of or that get outdated and end up in a landfill. In our desperation for a dopamine ping, we're killing our planet and wasting our resources making all this stuff. I hope that more people start to understand how the human brain works, and how we're pushed and pulled around by instinctive desires that we're cultivating to be totally out of control.
