Guy Decided To Send Wedding Invitations To Celebrities Shares What They Responded
Who wouldn't love to have a well-known person showing up at their wedding ceremony? But we all know, that if you not very well-connected or at least very lucky, you probably won't be seeing your favorite celebrity there no matter how hard you try to invite them. But that doesn't mean you cannot try! Who knows, maybe they'll even respond to you. That's something Louis Bam, a 37-year-old man from Cape Town, South Africa, decided to try out. Back in 2012, he sent out hundreds of wedding invitations to his and his wife's favorite celebrities and politicians and many of them took the time to respond!
It turns out, that there's a very good reason why Louis did this. Apparently, he came up with this idea to surprise his wife Estelle with well wishes from some of the famous people they both look up to. "I try my best to come up with things that my wife will appreciate in life. I try to do one special thing for her every day. Sometimes just buying a chocolate. Other times planning takes a bit more time. So for our wedding day, I wanted to make sure there are a lot of little surprises for her throughout the day. This was one of them," he told Bored Panda.
After googling their addresses, Louis put those invitations in the mail. "There are plenty of websites dedicated to listing celeb addresses for fanmail. My sister Yvette helped me with the admin as well as physically mailing everyone," Louis said. Soon, responses started flowing but, as expected, none of them actually agreed to come to the wedding. At least many of them took the time to wish the couple a beautiful ceremony. Despite what you might think, Louis wasn't disappointed. "I didn't want any of them showing up. It would have been pretty awkward if someone did pitch. I was just hoping for an album with letters from celebs saying congrats on the wedding to present to my wife as a gift. One South African DJ I invited did discuss coming to the wedding on radio and nearly spoiled the surprise. My wife's cousin called us and said they're talking about your wedding on the radio. I just lied and said I have no idea what they're talking about."

The man told us that he received around 50 responses from celebrities most of which were written by their staff. "I went through the album while doing my speech and no one was impressed. Everyone thought I was lying and making names up so it was a bit of a flop. It was only when I was seated at the table that people wanted to see the album that they noticed that it was for real. Haha, my wife wasn’t too impressed. A lot happens on your wedding day so it was just one of a thousand things that happened on the day. I think the fact that it still makes the news every once in a while is more special than it was on the day."
The dedication to this lovely idea clearly shows how much Loius cares about his wif, so does his words. When asked if there's anything else he wants to add, Louis took the moment to say how much he loves Estelle.

George W. Bush
Well then. I was never a great fan of his. But I would break out in tears of happiness if we could have him back in office tomorrow.
We forget how bad he was. I watched a review of the last 2 decades and got reminded 'oh yeah, he did do all that disastrous s**t!'
Load More Replies...Nah, he just wouldn't have replied cos he can't read.
Load More Replies...England to the USA needs only 44 cents stamp - that's a real surprise to me. Bush is quite a nice guy (as an individual, from public perspective of non-American point of view)
John Travolta
Are you sure? It looks like it was signed "Adele Dazeem".
Load More Replies...that couldn't be from him, he didn't try to talk you into joining the scientologists
There's no way you can get the letter of John and Travolta out of that signature!
My husbands signature looks like scribble; but weirdly it's the same scribble each time. You'd never be able to tell his name from it, but you'd never be able to forge it either.

prince Willim in the title... Was that the spelling in the invitation too?
I wonder if this guy googled them the wedding weekend to see if they really had prior commitments. :-D
I'm betting these celebs have form letters for just these situations. They undoubtedly get thousands of requests of all types.
Load More Replies...Liars! That's the oldest excuse in the book! I have a feeling they just don't want to attend.
You invited Harry to South Africa? He would have been incinerated the second he stepped out of the airport.
She is or was the Prince’s personal secretary.
Load More Replies...Elizabeth II
Um, I would just be happy that the queen considered the fact she got invited to my wedding
The queen would never have seen the invitation nor would she care.
Load More Replies...I didn't realize they even had Lady-in-Waiting's in the 21st century anymore! Woah.
That was my reaction too! I thought they must've done away with that tradition as you don't hear about them anymore.
Load More Replies...The Queen has a Lady-in-Waiting? I thought that was just back a long time ago. Guess not.
Nelson Mandela
I've just finished reading his autobiography. Literally gasped at seeing his name!
Load More Replies...The response on official stationery I received from President Mandela after I sent him a hand-calligraphed love sonnet from "As You Like It" to celebrate his marriage to Graca Michelle is hanging on my wall next to my letter from Stephen Hawking on his personal stationery.
I sent Mr Mandela a hand calligraphed love sonnet from 'As You Like It' when I heard about his courtship and marriage to Graca Michelle. It's hanging next to my letter from Stephen Hawking.
Nelson was one of the best things that EVER happened to our country, his compassion to this day reminds me of the Best of Times...
I love Mandela, but I'm not impressed with this letter. Where is the punctuation? And the proper line spacing? I expect better.
It's an email, so the line spacing formatting was lost when it was sent. That is not the sender's fault. It could also happen due to the receiver's printer settings.

You can tell he didn't dictate this from the absence of swear words!
"What the f**k kind of name is 'Bam'? Only an idiot sandwich would call themselves that!"
Load More Replies...Prince Charles
My thought is: what a cool thing if the response were: "His Royal Highness has an extremely busy diary of engagements at that time. Most of these are shameless a*s-kissers and fundraisers. Accordingly, HRH will clear his schedule, and instructs me to inform you that he and Lady Camilla accept your invitation with pleasure."
The Grits really know how to decline an invitation with grace and class.
i have never liked him, but his letter sounds more personal compared to his mother's and the one from his sons.
Which just means he has a better Private Secretary! Big up Major Mackinlay.

"With great friendship...." -Gunter. Is Günter her husband? Such a lovely true German name.
Bill Clinton
Well they're certainly not going to tell them to f*ck off, lol.
Load More Replies...I like how they included a link to try to get a donation out of him, lol. clinton-5e...9c4d91.gif
Ian Botham
Thats when I discovered Im getting married on the day that my team would be playing in the World Cup
Load More Replies...Yeah and it's written on the invitation. Apparently Sir Ian didn't hire a fancy professional to answer his mail. :-)
This entire posting has inspired me to send an invitation to my favorite rock band of all time-- "RAMMSTEIN," just to see what kind of response I get. (For my 20th wedding anniversary, btw). :-D
I'm not sure you'd want Beefy at your shindig. Could be handful after he's had a few.
Ewan Mcgregor
Funnt that it's handwritten, in this day and age. Nice though, that people still write.
I think that it's really awesome that he took the time to hand write a letter to total strangers congratulating them and sending his regards and regrets.
"Good luck on your marriage... and always look for the high ground." (how I would have responded if I were in his place)
You know, Ewan has a brother (Colin) who was an RAF pilot. His call sign was Obi-two

Google Translate: “ Mademoiselle, Monsieur, You have invited the President of the French Republic to your wedding ceremony on March 12, 2011. He entrusted me with the task of thanking you for your kind invitation to which his agenda does not allow to respond favorably. He expresses his regrets to you but wishes to send you all his congratulations. Please accept, Madam and Sir, the expression of my best wishes.”
Judi Dench
At least she doesn't lie and say her schedule doesn't permit it. She's like I just can't make it.
The other ones that say their schedules don't allow it aren't lies either. Those type of people schedule everything up to even a year or two in advance.
Load More Replies...In comparison to all those polite response this one feels slightly rude without actually stating anything rude.
Well damn, what a flat reply. No "hello" or "thank you" or "kiss my grits..." Just a plain boring and dull reply that lacks all forms of manners, good or bad. I expect more from Dame Dench's assistant. I've been a fan for many years.... Okay, at least this blase' reply is not from Dame Dench herself!
George W. Bush
It's pretty awesome that he also sent a more personal, and very kind, response. Never been a Bush fan, but credit where credit is due.
Nor have I but these days I think he must be thinking, "And you think _I_ was a bad president?"
Load More Replies...David Cameron
"Terribly sorry, but I'm going to be paid £30,000 for making a speech on that day."
Fidel Castro
According to my boy Google Translate: “The best of culture and knowledge must be universalized and national identities, art, customs, habits, beliefs, including the dialects of the smallest community, all fruits of the talent and hard work of each people, have to preserve themselves as the most valuable treasures of humanity”
Very accurate, my king. Now translate it to elfish :)
Load More Replies...In case you where wondering "The quote was taken from the speech Fidel Castro gave when he has awarded with the first order of "Prince Yaroslav the wise" in Ucrania." That's what the small print says. Don't know what it has to do with the marriage lol.
Damon Kalvari
The guy said his sister helped with this. I'm assuming Yvette is the sister?
Load More Replies...Jacob Zuma
Either the last paragraph was an instruction to the person writing the actual letter, or they mean "accept" his apologies.
Roman Abramovich
John Terry would have gone! That dude celebrates anything he's not a part of!
Gareth Cliff
at least the actual celeb/world leader etc. responded, not some random person from their staff
How hard would it be to have all these email responses written and signed as though by the celebrity themselves, instead of by their assistant?
But in the majority of cases it wouldn't be by the celebrity themselves and to make it seem otherwise is misleading at best.

could use a little training on diplomacy in response letters. :D but a good effort.
Keanu would have attended, brought a lovely gift, and caught the bouquet.
Load More Replies...He already kneeled to propose to his girlfriend, he's not gonna kneel before you as well.
Load More Replies...This was done in 2012? Jeez, if he was that bored before Covid he must be straight jacket material now.
If you look at the dates you can tell that he sent the invites out in 2010 and most responses were in 2011.
Load More Replies...everyone like have their own template to respond this kind of invitations.. but not Travolta!..
Did any of these celebrities actually show up, or at least send a gift?
I wondered the same thing. However, speaking in general, apparently some of them do give it a thought every now and then, and it makes the news on sites like this, or Buzzfeed, and other "viral news" sites. You've got to be lucky, though.
Load More Replies...How much trouble would he have been in if all those people had said yes!?
I'm impressed at how many RSVPed. Better than a lot of people I know.
