What do rude people with a complete lack of self-awareness tell themselves before sleep? ‘You miss every opportunity you don’t take.’ Or at least some version of it. Redditor /u/MetalM1ke has just sold a car to a guy for $4,000 and all seemed well until a week passed and his mom decided to go berserk. Clearly a fan of mafia movies, she contacted /u/MetalM1ke, demanding he returns the majority of the money.
“I had been trying to sell the car for the better part of a month,” /u/MetalM1ke told Bored Panda. “The 21-year-old found me on Craigslist.”
“My first impression of the kid was he had no idea about anything when dealing with BMW’s,” he added. “He really was in over his head but he was so excited I didn’t wanna spoil how great he felt… The negotiation went alright. I lowered the price a little bit ’cause he really wanted the car and he seemed like a nice kid and he said his dad was a gear head. That made me feel better about selling it to him.”
“Little did I know, his mother was a helicopter parent and refused to let her son stand on his own two feet and she was clearly a dilettante when it came to buying or selling cars.” (Facebook cover image: nakhon100)

People were incredibly interested in the outcome of the story, so the seller wrote a few updates
21 really is not a kid. If he's old enough to have 4k to spend then he's old enough for mummy to stop clinging on. As for her threats - pathetic. I doubt very much her husband is military, she's just saying that to sound scarier. Fail.
At first I thought the same. But then I remembered an article from a psychologist or society researcher or something similar. Dosen't matter. It stated that children nowadays seem to be growing up waaay slower than before. A 16 year old now is behaving like a 13 year old in the 80ies/ 90ties. This is both negativ and positiv in different ways.
Load More Replies...Why did this post feel the need to include the slam against military spouses?
Totally agree. They will be made up of all sorts of people. I don't think for one minute she was ex-military anyway. Like her son she appears to be allergic to the truth. He's 21 as well - far from being a kid and capable of learning from his own mistakes.
Load More Replies...I would have told her that I was sending the cops to her home and that the information given to the cops will include the son typing up a false bill of sale in order to defraud the government. Guess the criminal apple doesn't fall far from the criminal tree?
Oh, I love it when people say: My spouse/son/ BIL/ myself (fill in the blank) is current/ former (fill in the blank) Military/ Law enforcement (fill in the blank). Fight your own battles. Something this 21 year old grown a*s man needs to learn to do. He probably lied to his Mom because she's a b*tch on wheels who has bullied him all his life.
Do they have mandatory car insurance wherever this is? I know you're not going to insure a 21 year old kid on a 7 series BM in my country for anything short of a remortgage!
Yep, car insurance is certainly mandatory if you plan on driving it anywhere, and yes, it would be pretty expensive.

About a month later I see him in my truck at work and when I ask what he thought he was doing he said he was repossessing it because the folks he sold the V8 truck to didn't give him the rest of the money . I straightened that out pretty quick .
We need more resolution to this...how did that play out?

JP - so how do you distinguish between someone who once served in the military - some time ago, now discharged, someone who fought in a war, and currently serving personel. Just curious.

First off , KakkaKarrot is a moron. Secondly, This lady is a train wreck whether she is a military wife or not. The kid is old enough to make his own decisions but I feel sorry for him because he will have that woman for a mother his whole life.
As a BMW owner.... yeah no way to cheapin anything up, tags taxes and insurance cost a fortune. Mine usually just stays parked. And a kid should not be owning one unless parents plan on paying for everything.
I'm with Kaisu and Chris - 21 is NOT a kid and his mother should get back in her box. Why should parents pay for their offsprings expensive cars? If they are stupid enough to buy something ruinously expensive and can't afford to use it then tough. He can always sell it.

This is what happens when you try to do nice things for people. I am in the same boat. We sold our 1998 Honda Accord in 2017. I get a notice from the DOR that I am being sued for 3,000 and my licensed suspended because the lady we sold the car to did not transfer over the title from 2 years ago and was in an accident in 2018. I am having to go through a bunch of hoops to prove my innocence and that I did not own in this car at the time of the accident. I will be cleared, but might be after the deadline for my suspension on my license. Gotta love people!
“Scamming the DMV”???? I’ve bought and sold dozens of cars for $100 to/from “Friends of the family”, my whole life. Who in their right mind would -ever- willingly put themselves in debt to either the DMV or the IRS for a person to person sale???
The person who was texting the seller was just a con artist. They're the kind of people who walk up to your car at a red light, throw themselves on the hood and demand you pay them for hitting them with your car. Only way to deal with it is drive away and not pay them any attention.
She knew what she was doing. She didn't think her son was scammed at all, she just saw an opportunity to get her money back AND keep the car.
Exactly. That's why I blew "her" off and went on with my life. For awhile I thought it was the Son texting me from a different # just claiming to be his mom just to try and extort some money out of me.Didn't work. Screw him lol
Load More Replies...She already lost when she admitted her son is an idiot. Who would pay 400 for a BMW?
The notion of selling a 2006 BMW for $400 is absurd. The mother and son sound just as thick as each other.
My husband was in the army when we met. I hated army wives! They really do act like this. One of my co-workers (who's husband was also in army) got mad at me (no idea why). She went from 0 to crazy with no warning. She said she was going to call her husband to come beat me up. I calmly told her that was fine - I would take them both on and then call the cops. I won't start s**t, but I have a right to defend myself. (I also pointed out that I would not be calling my husband because this was between me and her, no one else). She told her husband all about it. He told my husband all about it (asking for advice because he had noticed I didn't act insane like the other wives). My husband's advice was simple: Don't back up her nonsense. If she asks you to jump into her fight, tell her, "No. You started it, you should finish it." She didn't like that. They got divorced. Lol.

They got divorced. Lol.
What gets me is the husband part like what was she going to say to him someone robbed our son I said you would go beat the guy up so you got to do it now. What if the husband is just as tired of her s**t and doesn't want to be made to go round beating people up
My da was in the military, and that made my mom a military wife. I take umbrance at the insult to military wives, kakak. Y mom had it going on, with 4 kids, a husband often deployed, and she was very smart. Most military wives, are smart, and if not, the other wives school her pretty fast. But this woman, is a piece of work, and seems to feel very entitled, and her son is a dipshit. So, they are the sad sacks. The man should have reported her son and her to the police, and then let them deal with that c**p. The kid learned his skills at his parents knee, so that is the saddest thing. He needs to grow a pair and learn some honesty .
I love bullys who think yelling and threats get them what they want. It's our duty to teach them that 'No.' is a complete sentence. 'Get bent' is one of my favorite sayings. +50 points.
In Australia the DMV used to have have a list of values for every make and model of car and if you claimed to have paid too much below the current market value you would be caught out straight away. I don't know if this was the same in every state or if it is still the case.
I know not all military wives are like this, but ever since I read about that one military wife who demanded people salute her like they do her husband, I've been a bit biased against them.
There's always one. Don't let that stupid person influence your thinking - it's giving them way too much power.

Location doesn't define whether or not you are an adult. That is something defined in law. Some people can be an immature fool at thirty and others are wise beyond their years at 16.
