Bartender Gets Appreciated Online For Swapping Tequila With Water When She Suspects Danger Around Women
According to statistics, approximately one third of women have been sexually taken advantage of while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The creators of the Global Drug Survey 2022 interviewed 120K people around the world and the result was really not encouraging. 29.3 percent of women have experienced such an incident, and approximately 8 percent admitted that it took place in the last 12 months.
On average, the situation develops in a similar way – a man offers a woman a drink, orders her more and more alcohol, and then takes advantage and, as we see from the statistics, this, alas, has had a tendency to increase lately. In turn, bartenders are generally just glad that customers are increasing their orders. However, there are also some good exceptions.
Like this bartender named Rise who, in her TikTok video, showed how she tries to read the body language and facial clues of her female clients in order to prevent men from getting women drunk and taking advantage of them. The video went viral with over 8M views, and many netizens praised Rise for her good idea.

In her video, Rise staged her reaction to men who specifically order a double shot of tequila for the woman who came with them, hinting that they plan to get her drunk.

In this case, Rise winks at the client, pretends to pour tequila into a glass, and does it under the bar so that the man does not see her hands. Meanwhile, she pours clear water, pretends to be serving alcohol, and hands the glass to the woman.

According to research, men do often try to take advantage of getting a woman drunk
“Men more than women are less likely to believe that being drunk affects one’s capacity to consent to sex,” state Dr. Anna Carline from LJMU and Dr. Clare Gunby from the University Of Leicester in their study evaluating a sexual consent campaign aimed at young men. “Non-consensual acts are perpetrated most frequently by an individual known to the victim.”

“Using the victim sexually after they had been drinking alcohol and were conscious but too intoxicated to give consent or stop what was happening is the most frequently used tactic,” say Dr. Carline and Dr. Gunby.

So Rise is really doing a good deed. However, not all commenters really agreed with this. One man even clarified that he gets charged for a double shot of tequila, and the woman ends up getting water when she really wanted some alcohol. To this, Rise noted that she always tries to read a woman’s body language, and wonders: “Is that what YOU want to drink?”
By the way, people in the comments also said that Rise is not alone in her actions. For example, someone said that one day their grandma took them to a bar and showed them a mini-fridge under the bar, where there were special glasses of water “just in case”. And other bartenders also decorate these glasses with a slice of lime for heightened effect.

To some of the commentors :it isn't automatic,she looks at the body language of the woman with the guy, the angel shots are reliant on the person being confident enough to ask or able to get away from the guy. FYI (at least according to my state's laws): if either parties are intoxicated in any way it is rape ,if both parties are intoxicated it is still classified as rape. Stop calling it nonconsensual sex , it is rape.

I was this bartender back in 1980. A man asked me to give his date doubles for every drink he ordered. He was given the drink he asked for, hers was non-alcoholic. When she took the first sip, I looked her in the eyes. A quick moment of confusion, followed by understanding. We smiled. He got drunk, she left. Only happened once, still remember.
Good for you. You helped someone that night. I'm sure she remembers that.

If the woman wants to get drunk, she can tell the bartender "Thanks, I'm fine, so how 'bout you make that shot tequila this time." No harm done. If she's being pressured into taking shots, she has an out. To those concerned about the dude's wallet; If someone is trying to get someone else drunk so they can rape them, they deserve a lot worse than being cheated out of the price of a shot of tequila.

These shots are now too known. I would worry about ordering an angel shot because the term has been plastered all over the internet. Men know, thus the bartenders taking it on their own to pass them out. That way it's not as obvious.

My husband orders for me most of the time because he knows what I like and if they don't have an ingredient to make my drink he knows enough to switch it. For ex, he ordered a Shirley Temple, they didn't have grenadine, so my husband switched to something else completely. Yes, this is a virgin drink but he also orders Cinzano, Martini Rossi, etc. My body language is totally relaxed unless it's a mixed drink then I'm checking how much they are putting as I only want ~1/4 oz. Last week, my husband asked for an Hemingway special and he specified not to put the whole ounce. He left to secure a table. Well the guy thought it would be funny to not just put one but two ounces. I told him to stop, he didn't. I left the bar to go sit at my table. The other barman came over and I explained the situation. He came back with a satisfying drink. I didn't think it was funny and the barman got it rough by the other two men there.
Remember the bartender is watching the situation. If the bartender feels the person ordering is being sus an might be trying to get someone drunk they could just do this an make it look legit. But say "it's on the house" to avoid the rip off of water instead of liquor. And at some point have someone go to the restroom when the patron does and ask her if she's ok and if she wants actual drinks and what the other person is ordering. Yeah your husband bf etc might order you a double and that's what you want to avoid going up and down to the bar. That's fine. You can also tell from a couple what's going on. So don't get snotty at the bartender or you can go home or to somewhere else.

In the 50s, when my mother was single, her county was dry. Liquor could be served in private clubs, if the family provided their own bottles. A date took her to one such club, where her father was a member, and the bartender knew whose daughter she was. Now, my mom was 5'7", maybe 105 lbs soaking wet. This guy orders her a Bourbon and Coke, which she drinks. She goes drink for drink with him. He's sloshing and she's stone-cold sober. At the end of the date, her daddy picked her up from the club and thanked the bartender for giving her only Coke that night. Served in DOF glasses for good measure.
It would be fine as long as she doesn't charge for the drink. Where I live it's illegal to charge someone for something and not give it to them. Bars get shut down if they tell customers they are serving premium alcohol and switching it out for well drinks. Also, imagine all the trouble with the credit card companies and fraud.
I would think that if the girl did want the alcohol she would say something when she tasted water. If nothing was said by the girl then she must have been ok with this and tuff s**t dude. Your Lossing a little extra cash and not getting any a$$. If that's your only game, that's on you.

On the one hand I appreciate bartenders looking out for girls that may be vulnerable, but by the same token, if I sent my husband over to grab a couple of shots, I'd be pissed - especially if we're still getting charged for alcohol. Once again, we are marginalized a group of people for not being smart enough to make their own decisions. A "strong independent woman" would refuse drinks bought for her by an 'identifying' male. Basically, what you're saying is women are weak and need others to look out for them because they will oftentimes make bad decisions for free stuff. Before you come at me and try to claim I am one of those who would get someone drunk to lower their inhibitions.... having sex with a drunk person is the biggest turn-off I can think of. Especially if I'm moderately sober. The only times I have come close to such behavior is when in a quasi-comitted relationship and we both were so inclined.
