45 People Share The Worst Things Their Teacher Has Done To Them
125Kviews
We all know what kind of difference a good teacher can make in someone's life. A skilled educator has an opportunity to inspire students to pursue their goals and talents, can recognize their strengths and give them the most important knowledge they can offer. While we all should celebrate all of the amazing teachers out there, many schools still lack compassionate, thoughtful and talented teachers. A Twitter user who recently started a thread asking people to share their crappy teacher stories proves that some people are simply unsuited to do this important job. In the eye-opening and shocking thread, people shared stories of harrowing teachers who abused their power over students, humiliated and bullied them.

Talking of respect, I had a new ROTC teacher come in screaming at us talking about if you respect me I'll respect you while showing us zero respect. I made it my main mission in life to make him hate his and I succeeded. I got many other students on board and he barely lasted the year.. I'm willing to bet I took years off that man's life.
I'm so sorry you had to wade through all that crap. Good job making your dream happen in spite of him!
I loved art and took core classes in summer school so I could take art class. I was good at freehand drawing, where we were not allowed to look at our paper. All my friends knew exactly who I had drawn in class that day, from our school of 6,000. Well, I got preggers my last semester and dropped out to come back a year later as a married mom. I had signed up for all 6 classes, but realized I only needed 2 to complete course requirements, so I dropped the remaining 3. When I went to art to get teachers signature on drop form, she said she couldn't believe I kept the arts and crafts class, which I did because it was between the 2 I had to have, and I loved it. I asked why she thought I should keep her class? She said,' Well, you are one of the best students I've ever had!' Astounded I asked why she never posted any of my work in the hall, or the end caps of the supply shelves, or even gave me better than a C on anything I handed in? "Oh, you'd just get a big head!" Thanks,msForeman!
That sounds like the art teacher I had in high school who made one of the girls cry over her project (She spent half the semester on it and he told her it was worse than a toddler's) So we locked him in the supply cage (the kiln was behind a cage structure with the art supplies because apparently high schoolers can't be trusted) for a day. With his last name, it was either that or dye him green after a certain DBZ character.
Stubborn determination has got more people through difficult situations trying to prove naysayers wrong.
It's a shame that teacher is around such young minds that believe is drivel. I hope to God, that they kick his ass out of the school system
I do not understand why people like him become teachers... WHY?!?! You hate kids, you hate teaching, you don't want students to succeed, teachers don't get paid much so it can't be the money; So WHY?!?! WHY do you decide to become a teacher?!?! YOU MAKE NO SENSE!!
And if he has a chance for a job making more money, that doesn't involve kids, he won't take it!
Load More Replies...My math teacher once told the class that some teachers pull you down just to give you the strength to fight back be succesful anyway. That without this particular teacher life is just too easy and lots of students don't get to where they dream to be.
Yeah, but, there's a way to pull off tough love without being a total jerk. And I don't believe this particular case is like you say. In one of the posts, the student mentioned that he got a scholarship to his dream college and the teacher got mad. A teacher whose trying to make you fight for your dreams as you described wouldn't be pissed when his student proved him wrong.
Load More Replies...Yes indeed, that teacher didn't like kids, I'm sure he gave you the added fuel to succeed !!!
Sometimes we need a little negativity or opposition to get our engines revved. We wouldn't try as hard in my opinion.
Some people would try harder and others would be crushed and I don't believe for one minute that this teacher had the skill to spot which would be which. He was simply being an arse. Also not his place to make that kind of judgement - he wasn't the one deciding who got in or not.
Load More Replies...You deserved an A. That type of behavior was pretty shitty on her part.
She shouldn't have been working in a school to begin with. My parents would have raised hell if that had been me. Teachers and other school staff need to take students with illnesses seriously.
Whoah. A good friend's mother was dying of cancer, and the principal said he would not allow her to be with her mother, she had to be in school. Luckily, her aunt told the principal where to stick it.
One teacher told my youngest (of 3) sister, "Why can't you be creative like your sisters?" That hurt. I'm glad she got past that, but it took a while. She now does interesting crafts (great colour sense!). Plus, she works in PR, marketing, travel writing, tourism, would make a very good manager-- I can't praise her enough!
Your parents and the counselor need to figure out what reality is. That story she told them was fiction.
So how does one gain the right to feel sad? Is there a quota system (10 worst situations on the entire planet) or is it based on a checklist (must have 9 out of 10 specific events happen over the course of 25 hours) or do you argue for your right before a jury of one insensitive art teacher?
That teacher should have been smacked across her head really hard for being stupid.
This is just horrible. I hope the earbuds didn't cost too much to replace.
Wow. That is just SO rude and uncalled for. People can make decisions for themselves.
That person clearly did hear the teacher, to have done them. The student should have gone to the principal while she went to the nurse's office to make sure her head was okay.
I've told this one before...a (male) teacher stopped in the middle of class to tell me "Your legs are too fat. You need to go on a diet." This wasn't Phys Ed or some class when commenting on my weight might be even slightly appropriate - this was like Math or Social Studies. F*** him.
That is just so LAME. Doctors exist for a reason, not so you can pretend that they don't know what they're talking about.

Guys used to bully me a lot at school, calling me names, singing mean songs, pushing me over. So one day I took my complaint straight to the principal. One of the guys tagged along because the teachers wanted it to be "sorted out". Ended up the guy was simply told to chill and when he left and I stayed, the principal looked at me and he said "you shouldn't worry about this, guys this age are mean to girls they like so he simply likes you!" Yep. Of course. Silly me. What else to expect from a society that romanticizes mental abuse?
Some guys are just assholes. The principal is one of them.
Oh god, I got that too. "The boys pick on you because they like you!" What a crock of BS.
My 6th grade teacher told the class a story about how her family got a cat, and wanted to de-claw it themselves (de-clawing a cat is cat abuse to begin with, not to mention doing it yourself). She felt she needed a cat to practice on, so they FOUND A DEAD CAT IN THE STREET and de-clawed the poor dead cat. The boy who sat in front of me was so upset – he said that could have been has cat, because his cat had disappeared and they never knew what happened to it.
Omfg that's sick! That poor boy is right he was probably picturing his own kitty in its place
You're right -- I don't remember the boy's name, but I'll never forget his anguished words -- I can still hear them in my mind. The worst part about it is the way this teacher told the story, with a smile on her face, as if it were some jolly tale.
A disgusting and stupid individual - how on earth did they become a teacher?

De-clawing is NOT cat abuse.
Well where you live might be allowed in the law. Where I lived it would be abuse, the same with cutting dog's tail or ears. Those are crimes by the law there
These teacher are MENTAL
I really don't want to say to much, it still hurts. My third grade teacher was so cruel and demeaning, she took a happy, popular child reading at the seventh grade level, and through constant physical and emotional abuse turned him into an isolated, nervous frightened kid who was tossed into special ed. Even now, the damage lingers on. I have good life, but her specter haunts me sometimes.
So, so sorry that happened to you Felix. I was bullied at school and it absolutely has a lasting impact. What happened to you though must have been horrific. She should have been locked up.
I'm really sorry Felix. I'm so sorry you were protected from her. She was intimidated by you, and she is a sick, awful, cruel, wicked person. I'm glad you have a good life. Hug from here.
I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Had a 4th grade teacher that did the same to me...I got stress related illness at 8- 9 years old!! But as I got older I found out I wasn't stupid like she said. I went to college and became a nurse. I never went back...but there were times I wanted to go back and confront her. I wish you the best Felix.
You need to go back and at least give her a good ol' throat punch. (I jest, but it feels food thinking about doing that to past horrible teachers.)
That happy kid is still in there somewhere and one day you will be able to bring him back out.
Honestly, I find this kind of baseless optimism demeaning. There's trauma that you can't recover from, trauma that will forever change you. It's not that you can't become well again, but you can never be what you were before. For better and worse. Let's not pretend otherwise.
My 6th grade science teacher gave me an F on a test related to the geologic mechanisms behind plate tectonics. There was much anger at home. Though fortunately for me, my "incorrect" answers were based on the latest research and computer modeling techniques, as opposed to the "answers" in the obsolete textbook. My father was a microbiologist, and subscribed to the journal Science. Evidently not all of it was over my head. He kindly explained that she was the incorrect one, with fully cited sources.
Boom mike drop, go dad! ^-^
Sadly, this is rarely the teacher’s fault. In underfunded schools with staffing shortages, it is a fairly commonplace arrangement where teachers who have academic credentials in one area end up getting assigned to also teach classes in another where they have neither background nor expertise, in order to cover the underfilled positions. They are then forced to “teach to the test” and if the materials are outdated — which they always are — then this is the inevitable result.
People called for jury duty are screened to ensure they are not homophobic, racist, religious fanatics etc so the accused gets a fair trial. Why aren't would be teachers screened likewise so children are treated fairly in school?
Apparently police, doctor or teacher are like three of the biggest chosen professions for sociopaths....exercising power over others lives I guess is the attraction
You forgot politician.
Better monitoring and feeback from students would help. If a certain teacher gets accused of a particular behaviour regularly then something should be done about it - though it seems that so many in charge prefer to ignore problems.
The problem is the system, in every institution. The bullied is ignored and made to shut up. It is much easier for the bully to be allowed to go about his/her own business than make it stop. I don't know why. Unless you have someone at the top who will not abide this kind of behaviour, it will continue. I've seen it everywhere: Teachers bullying other teachers, teachers bullying students, students who bully teachers, staff who bully staff, bosses who bully employees, employees who harass teachers, siblings who bully their siblings.
Because jury selection is a much more costly process than your average job interview.
Because they take whoever will accept a heavy workload and a shitty salary.
I once sharpened my pencil, put it on my desk. Boy next to me (that I didn't know) stabbed it in my hand for no reason. Teacher rolled her eyes when I asked to go to office for a bandaid (blood was getting on my book). Office eye rolled too. I still have a grey dot in my hand, and unsurprisingly I've seen this guy pop up in the local court news quite a bit. A shame no one cared enough to help him then we were 11, no body seemed bothered by it but surely these are the signs a kid needs help?
That happened to me too, but nothing really happened to either of us and the nurse just told me to wash my hands so I also have a piece of graphite in my hand
Read "Anthoy MacDougall" by Catherine Gildiner--real-life story of a girl who defends herself from a bully and its consequences. The good part is, she survives.
I was severely bullied in school as a kid in elementary. My peers, teachers, and principal disliked me (I am literally a school fanatic, I study almost 365/ a year), even though I was a good, kind student. Apparently, I was too smart for them to tolerate. If the teacher asked us to create a report, the kids in my class would hand in 1 page stories, and I would hand in a 10+ page essay, I was spot on, A+ in my work. I turned to homeschooling in Grade 7 and it opened the doors to so much possibility for me! I started my own business, and continued my home education (even to this day, I'm still a dedicated student). And even though my homeschooled teachers still believed that I was too good to be true in some things, I have proved them wrong this week by submitting my semester of course work to them, so descriptive, that they've asked me to come teach the class! I have been providing resources for the school's curriculum for years, and as of now, I work for NASA! I'm in high school BTW.
You’re in highschool? So you’re in your teens? And you started a business, were offered by a school you don’t attend to teach a class of kids your age, all while working for NASA? Your bio says you're Canadian, you're sure you're working for NASA? If any of that is actually true good for you, but that seems pretty far fetched.
That's incredible, I apologize for doubting you but I guess you could take that as a compliment because your achievements are that remarkable. Best of luck :)
Thanks for your input. But yes, everything I said was true! I'm in my teens, and, I do attend the school (in online homeschooling programs) that asked me to teach classes, I'm in advanced placement, so it's easy for me to understand and teach the younger grades. I am an entrepreneur, I own my own jewelry and fine art business which, although I have to take a backseat to considering my studies and my job, I still manage. I also work for NASA, I'm an intern, the youngest I might add. I understand that for some it seems far fetched, but I'm a motivated go-getter, and nothing will stop me! But if you were sincere about your good wishes, I would like to say thanks.
It's so weird to me that people are disliked for being clever or for not being smart - these are things that people cannot help. A person can only do their best - which in your case was clearly exceptional. I expect they felt intimidated, not that this excuses them in any way whatsoever. Far from it. Good for you - I love a success story! Go Madison!
Thanks Alex. You're right, I do believe that they felt intimidated. There's so many others out there who are just so smart, and so talented, my only wish is that they receive the same opportunities I did.

I was in Grade 10, and my Math teacher berated me in the hall way in front of pretty much the whole school. She said "You were born stupid, You will always be stupid, you will never amount to anything, you will probably end up in prison shortly before you graduate" later that same year, my Home-room teacher a Wonderful woman named Miss Dianne Brown gave me an IQ test. My score came out in the top 2%, in which she announced at the end of class time, and Mrs. Allister replied that is preposterous There is no way in Hell this boy is remotely close to the top 2 percentile. He is lazy and stupid, his whole family is stupid.. Mrs. Allister was put on permanent leave the next day..
finally, justice.
Had a teacher in Elementary school who would line up all the white kids in front of the chalkboard and beat us with the yard stick she carried around. She would yell at us saying we deserved it after what our people did to her people. We were terrified to tell anyone but thankfully after a week or so she finally got caught and we never saw her again. Also....had tons of pervy high school teachers (male AND female)
These stories turn my stomach. Now I'd like to hear how GOOD teachers/counselors/coaches have influenced people.
Had to stop reading these. They made me so mad! I had some shitty teachers, but none was as bad as these!
I also had to stop. I actually can't believe that there are people who would treat children (or young adults, or ANYBODY) like this. My kids are just starting school and I will absolutely MURDERISE any teacher who fucks with them!
Go straight to the authorities instead - official channels will hopefully get them locked up or at least stop them teaching. Also protect other children. Going for the jugular might be satisfying but you have to be careful that you don't end up in trouble and, at worst, your children without you. If you were not serious then apologies - I'm not good as spotting that kind of thing. 😕
Schools are war zones
Mom took on the high school principal--and won. The fight? The ring they made me take off in Gym, that got lost. It's still on my finger 50 years later.
I still can't understand why Children Hater Clubsters chooses teaching as their career!!!
So that they have a captive audience to pick on probably. Their performance should be monitored a whole lot better than it is.
Easy to pass the courses?
These teachers should not be teaching. They should be in prison or a mental hospital.
"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Inside a school, teachers often have too much power.
These are so sad. What kind of teacher does these things?!
The bad ones.
When I was in the 3rd grade, my class was coming in from recess, and my teacher swore she heard me call her a bitch. I was suspended from school, and my mother sent me to boarding school for the remainder of my childhood. I never called my teacher a bitch, but because she thought I said it, my entire life was altered.
jason houston like
I once got detention for supposedly writing an "inappropriate" note in class she found. Not only did I not write it, it had my name spelled wrong at the bottom and the teacher claimed I was lying. I kept telling her that's not my handwriting nor is that how you spell my name. Instead of fact checking, she just gave me detention and the two bullies who wrote it got a kick out of me getting into trouble. Assholes. 🤦♀️
I clenched my fist as I read these.
My PTSD started at a really young age. I'm currently 16. I was in kindergarten. A girl cut my hair and so I did the same thing to her hair. I know not the smartest move. But then she screamed. The principal was called up. Next thing I know I'm being dragged down flights of stairs. Now this school was huge. Many staircases and it was like 4 floors tall with many hallways. So I'm terrified cause I have no idea what's going to happen to me. So I cry. Then her hand tightens on my arm. I'm again crying and asking her to let me go cause she's hurting me. She starts dragging me down the many stair cases. I can't keep up so then I'm terrified that she's just gonna throw me down the stairs. At this point I'm begging some one to come help me. She didn't like that. She tried swinging a punch at me. Then I started trying to hold on to door handles cause I don't want to go with her. Only like one person poked their head out. I started having nightmares at 15. Finally told my parents.
I'm so sorry
Nothing to apologize for, but thanks for the support.
If not for a couple of concerned teachers, I'd have been far worse off. So, cred to the caring ones, b/c that made up for the others.
A lector at my uni told us that some people are just born for translating, and that she can see their auras and will only work with them (also named a few students), she doesn't work with the rest of us. An English teacher at high school did large numbers with us, BE ones (BE was the standard we had to learn, we were scolded for using AE), and she wanted to show us the difference between BE and AE numbers and since she didn't know the AE version, asked us. I raised my hand and said, she said it was incorrect (which happened several other times). I got fed up and asked her how did she know my answer was incorrect when she said she didn't know the answer in the first place. Yup, received a mouthful. She ultimately consulted a dictionary, but would never acknowledge that my answer was ultimately correct. Damn, I hated that woman.
Not me, my sister was "buying" drugs from a teacher...her payment ...sex with him.
I went to a Catholic school went I was in kindergarten and 1st grade. I was able to write/draw/color with both of my hands for a while. One day, the teacher (nuns didn't teach us, regular teachers did) told me that I would have to decide which hand I'd like to use when I write/draw/color and I told her that I wanted to use my left hand. She didn't sugarcoat it when she said that I'm going to Hell for being a lefty. I was 5 years old when she said that. Fast forward 22 years, and I'm still a lefty and proud of it.
Go you! My dad emigrated here to nz from Ireland, he's 66 now, but he told me about when he was a boy in ireland: his teacher would cane him for using his left hand but he just took it and didn't stop. Eventually the teacher gave up. I think the teacher hated him after setting him a punishment task of adding the numbers 1-100, dad paused then said 5000(I think lol I'm nt gna add it up), teacher accused him of cheating or already knowing, dad said no, 100, then 99+1, 98+2 etc, so 49 100s plus 100 XD Anyway he is an accomplished technician, loves trying to explain hexadecimal and binary to me but it whooshes over my head. He says god made a few ppl perfectly and the rest right handed ^-^
I was doing the same thing, but in my case, the teacher contacted my parents and they said she should insist I use my right hand. You should see my handwriting as a result!
Poor people! I wish I could do something or could’ve stood up to those teachers! God bless the people that struggles with them!
When I was a kid, I had pretty bad asthma. I've outgrown it, but my lungs didn't really become as strong as they should have. Anyway, I was in school, when I start struggling to breathe. I think it's an asthma attack, and ask my teacher if I can see the nurse. He calls me a "Jess", and tells me to get over it. Luckily, I was wrong, and was just struggling in the cold, but it could have gone south real fast had I been having a real attack.
My music teacher says that a romantic relationship HAS to be between a boy and a girl. She also told people that they had to be christian. She was fired.
Well being a gay teen I give zero f's what people think if I date a guy or not
These make me so sad. There are good teachers out there I promise
Yeah, I couldn't get through all of these. The idiocy really pisses me off.
Holy God. Half of these people need to be reported to the cops.
My third-grade teacher targeted me for some reason. At one point, she put my desk in the coat closet. At another point, a girl who sat next to me burnt herself with hot water we used to make cocoa and was sitting quietly with damp towel on her arm. The principal came through, saw the damp towel, and asked me what happened. I answered his question. When he left, the teacher announced to the class that we couldn't have cocoa anymore because of me. She would often spent big chunks of class just chewing me out for no good reason.
Sometimes it makes you wonder if they're actually insane. Perhaps you reminded them of someone that had been unpleasant to them??? It's highly unlikely that it was anything to do with you individually. Disgusting way to treat another person whatever the reason.
Not a teacher but a teacher's aid in college. My husband was asked to make an abstract painting in art school. He made a piece that had a city on fire and solid black figures of people dancing outside the city walls (all in red, orange, yellow and black.) When he took it in for grading...the TA said "No..like this" and proceeded to take a paintbrush filled with grey paint and spattered it all over my husbands art piece. My husband was so furious, he dropped the class and majored in Creative Writing and minored in Japanese.
Biology teacher, senior year, I was experiencing a bad case of hives, itching all over, asked if I could go see the nurse, in front of the whole class he said "Yeah make sure you get that STD taken care of" Worst moment of my life.
You should have said "Like you can talk. You gave it to me."
Good comeback! Love it!
Out music teacher would lock us in a. The closet. B. The “naughty box” (a cardboard box) or c. Both. and would also spray us with squirt bottles and told a whole class of first graders Santa doesn’t exist.
Was his name Grinch? (I'm just trying to find some humor after all those stories about cruel and/or crazy teachers and principals)
