We all know what kind of difference a good teacher can make in someone's life. A skilled educator has an opportunity to inspire students to pursue their goals and talents, can recognize their strengths and give them the most important knowledge they can offer. While we all should celebrate all of the amazing teachers out there, many schools still lack compassionate, thoughtful and talented teachers. A Twitter user who recently started a thread asking people to share their crappy teacher stories proves that some people are simply unsuited to do this important job. In the eye-opening and shocking thread, people shared stories of harrowing teachers who abused their power over students, humiliated and bullied them.

Talking of respect, I had a new ROTC teacher come in screaming at us talking about if you respect me I'll respect you while showing us zero respect. I made it my main mission in life to make him hate his and I succeeded. I got many other students on board and he barely lasted the year.. I'm willing to bet I took years off that man's life.

She shouldn't have been working in a school to begin with. My parents would have raised hell if that had been me. Teachers and other school staff need to take students with illnesses seriously.

Whoah. A good friend's mother was dying of cancer, and the principal said he would not allow her to be with her mother, she had to be in school. Luckily, her aunt told the principal where to stick it.

One teacher told my youngest (of 3) sister, "Why can't you be creative like your sisters?" That hurt. I'm glad she got past that, but it took a while. She now does interesting crafts (great colour sense!). Plus, she works in PR, marketing, travel writing, tourism, would make a very good manager-- I can't praise her enough!

Your parents and the counselor need to figure out what reality is. That story she told them was fiction.

So how does one gain the right to feel sad? Is there a quota system (10 worst situations on the entire planet) or is it based on a checklist (must have 9 out of 10 specific events happen over the course of 25 hours) or do you argue for your right before a jury of one insensitive art teacher?

Some people have no taste. I have a bum knee, but I'll risk a week of recovery for a good Mexican band (damn you, Banda de la Muerte! Oh the agony, but oh the ecstacy!).

Ah, yes, I watched the whole thing. It was originally an all-girls school, and it eventually became a co-ed high school. It is now defunct. The whole thing was so sad. The head priest, the brotherhood, and their lackeys sexually abused the poor female students.

That person clearly did hear the teacher, to have done them. The student should have gone to the principal while she went to the nurse's office to make sure her head was okay.

I've told this one before...a (male) teacher stopped in the middle of class to tell me "Your legs are too fat. You need to go on a diet." This wasn't Phys Ed or some class when commenting on my weight might be even slightly appropriate - this was like Math or Social Studies. F*** him.

Reminds me of my how my digital tech teacher treated one of my friends. My friend had trouble spelling some things and was slow at writing, and whenever she had to write down something, the teacher would comment on how she didn't use capitals and correct punctuation/grammar, (and also commented on how messy her handwriting was and she couldn't read it) Even though i'm about 99% sure the teacher KNEW that she had trouble writing and remembering correct spelling/grammar, she still pointed it out and demanded her to fix it. sometimes she would find out after seeing the mistakes PRINTED OUT on her assignment, and if that happened, she would tell her to change it and then print it out again. (In my school we have to print work out ourselves too, so basically my friend was wasting a lot of her printing money and paper because of spelling mistakes) Damn I could go on forever about my digital tech teacher but i'll stop it here

That's terrible. I never liked reading out loud. Reading until night mode came about was always difficult for me. I'd always start rereading lines but felt stupid if I kept my place with my finger or something. I had a teacher in ninth grade when we were reading out loud. She had me keep reading several times. I don't think she was trying to be mean, but I hated it.

I am dyslexic and was diagnosed until I was in my teens. I know the shame of being mocked when I tried to read out loud.

I get self conscious when I have to read out loud and after a horrible incident in class where I messed up several times while reading aloud, my 2nd grade teacher told my mom I couldn't read and wanted me tested for special ed. My mom told her she was crazy, that I could read before kindergarten and reading was my favorite past time. Teacher insisted, so my mom told her to go ahead and do her test. Test revealed that I could read at a high school level. She did apologize to my mom though.

In 7th grade math I was struggling really bad. We did a assignment and the teacher took each paper and read it aloud. I got really stressed out- mostly because I was partnered up with this jerk wad kid who bullied me- because of this I was barely able to write anything on the paper. When the teacher started reading the papers (it was supposed to be anonymous) she got to mine and read it in a really mocking tone. And the jerk kid stood up and yelled that that paper was mine. I got really upset and started crying. Teacher let him get away with it because I “deserved the humiliation because (I) wasn’t smart enough to do it properly”

Kids deserve to be called out in front of the class and/or punished for their stupidity. If they can't learn at school, it's their fault.
