There is a reason why a dog is perceived as man's best friend. Sometimes they're fun, goofy, and mischievous while at other times, they can be serious, intelligent, and understanding. They're the best boys (and girls!) and many would argue that they are the best pets out there.
No matter the number of positive aspects canines as a species possess, there is one unfortunate downside. Dogs, just like most of the other animals, don't live forever. They age and get sick and slow down. The upside? Pups don't really care about it! Even if they're getting old and their fur is turning grey, they play and love and enjoy life just as much as they did when they were puppies. And even if most people say that lil' baby dogs are when they're the most adorable, we'd like to argue that senior dogs are just as cute. You think you'd disagree? Omg, so beautiful. i've had dogs all my life. I'm a senior now and I foster senior dogs. My last one, Harley, a Shitzu, passed away earlier this year. I had him 5+ yrs. He was loved and spoiled beyond belief. I haven't cried that hard in a long long time. Harley was my gift from God. I currently have Snuggles, a 6 lb white Poodle, who wants to be in my lap 24/7, and I love it! This little guy's owner passed away and the relatives didn't want him and they abused him. When Kim first brought him to me you couldn't touch him without him yelping. Now, with tons of love and care I can touch him anywhere and he doesn't yelp. He's a happy little camper now. And boy does he love strawberry wafer cookies!!
Elder dogs are amazing. I wish more of us knew this. I have adopted older dogs (often in disguise - rescues charge more for ‘younger’ dogs... who are not - which is okay, because an older dog gives back so much more. Often more quietly, patiently, easily...

When I adopted my German Shepard mix she would "hug" me by climbing on top of me in the charn and leaning into me. She did this for weeks and will still do it when she knows I'm upset.
This made me well up. It is so so awesome that someone adopted a German shepeherd this old.
It is extremely sad that some senior pets, must age and die alone, through no fault of theirs !!!
I don't understand why people dump senior dogs, they are adorable and honestly the easiest dogs you can have. All they want is a bowl of food once in awhile a few snuggles and a warm bed, otherwise they just lay around and sleep they are so easy. And look how cute they are!!!

I have a turtle. I had another one name Oscar but he died. turtles are the sweetest animals. mine are actually tortoises so they don't live in water. anyway my current tortoise Shelly is so sweet. She cuddles with me and loves to be pet on her head, under her neck, and on her shell. bless turtles, tortoises, and animals.

I found this heartwarming. I just had to put my old girl down. She was 16, deaf, blind, senile and arthritic. She started peeing in the night and waking up in a sodden confused mess. When quality of life is so diminished that quantity of life is just so the human can continue to have the companionship, you know it’s time to say goodbye. She will ALWAYS be my special angel. I had to have my chihuahua Missy put down in 2008. She would not get out of bed and wouldn't eat. She was also in a lot of pain. It's such a hard decision to make. I'm thankful for the years I had with her. I raised her from a puppy.

All my dogs lived more than 12 years. The sad part is that they leave us, and it makes me feel sad. I know they don't live so long, I think this is so unfair; they are only fluffy lovely packs of joy, why they have to get old so soon?

My baby boy rescued me almost 8 years now. I don't know how old he really is, vet told me he was 5 years old when I got him. We met when I moved to Greece and since then we've travelled to so many countries together. He is tired and his body aches...my best teacher all this years. He showed atraction for a perfume that I was keeping for special occasions and since then I wear it everyday even before taking a shower, he taught me every day is special, live the moment and to be grateful for what I have at this very moment.
My guys are both 14 years old. I love older dogs. Wise and good companions.

This is great. I vote for a permanent section this kinda stuff. If it changes just one persons view of how they interact with their dogo, then thats one happier dogo, right?
They are all so sweet. There must be a special place in heaven for those kind souls who adopt senior pets and provide them with lots of love at the end of their lives. We should all be so lucky. Thank you so much for your goodness.
I have a lab who will be 13 this summer and hasn’t claimed the stairs to my bedroom in two years this morning I Sleep in not feeling well and the next thing I know Odie Is by my bed checking on me we had a real challenge getting him down They’re in love knows no bounds bless them all
