Thank you for that information-- I really wanted to google this and read more about it. It's gorgeous. I bet when it was first built and looked pretty, it must have been fantastic!

Abandoned House In The Republic Of Karelia, Russia
We live in times of rapid urbanization. In fact, it's projected that by 2050, more than two-thirds of the world population will live in urban areas. With a whopping population of 7.9 billion, it seems like no place on Earth is left untouched by humans. But as that likely will be the prospect in the coming century, today at least, we still have some no man’s lands and abandoned places to visit.
Abandoned Winter Garden Of An Abandoned Mansion, France
Thats beautiful. That doesnt look creepy, that looks like home...
Home yes! A chair, table, a cup of tea and relax and enjoy the beauty!
Load More Replies...If I bought this property I wouldn't change a thing...probably just repair any rust but I wouldn't upset any of the plants.
I think I would like to live by myself in a conservatory in the middle of nowhere. It would be completely self sustainable. Like those homes that are called Earthships.. completely self sustainable living and built with all recycled materials. Sorta like the movie "Bio-Dome". "Free Mahi-Mahi, free Mahi-Mahi!" Lol
Very Impressive Abandoned Lighthouse (Aniva Lighthouse, Russia)
It's funny how the lighthouse looks like it's growing out of the stone; the stone is flipping off the "mountainous rock," and the "mountainous rock" looks (to me) like a sleeping dragon! (◠‿◠)
I think this is one of the ones they ran with portable nuclear generators... they pretty much used radioactive waste everywhere they could pre Chernobyl... they just left the generators filled with nuclear waste when they were decommissioned... They are highly radioactive now.... hope the photographer didn't get any closer than this picture...
Lighthouse - just looks like it has risen out of the sea to have a look!
The Beautiful Dietla Palace - Sosnowiec - Poland
How are these incredible places abandoned? So, can someone claim them? In Greece, if you occupy a place for 20 years, and no one reacts during that time, you can claim it for yourself (after a certain procedure, of course).
This post is fake, because this place is not abandoned. You can visit this palace anytime for money (3 euro). You can even rent it for exhibition purposes, business and artistic meetings or even weddings.
Load More Replies...I googled this one, it's not abandoned. They said you can rent a hall and hold events.
“Abandoned spaces are eerily fascinating to us because they bring human culture and nature together in unexpected ways,” Lisa Yaszek, a Regents Professor of Science Fiction Studies at Georgia Tech, told Bored Panda. Lisa researches and teaches science fiction as a global language crossing centuries, continents, and cultures.
She explained further: “We tend to think of humans as active and nature as passive, and we assume that the monuments and cities we build by manipulating the material world and separating ourselves from nature will last forever.”

Most Impressive Ceiling I Have Encountered In An Abandoned Building
Why can't we have buildings like this any more? Why does everything have to be a soulless concrete box?
Is that going up and the creamy part the ceiling, or is it all ceiling? Either way, it's beautiful.
It turns out that our fascination with abandoned places may come from the fact that they “remind us that nature is also an active force that moves in strong, slow, and persistent rhythms that differ from but intersect with cycles of human time.”
“In short, these places remind us that humans exist in larger webs of being, and that we might not be the most powerful thing around. It’s both a humbling and exhilarating recognition—we are not alone here on Earth,” Lisa explained.

It's called Palacio Burnay, its located in Lisbon, Portugal. It was abandoned in 2001 due to structural issues. In YouTube you can find a video of someone exploring it.
Wow. It's holding up really well for being abandoned. It would be really lovely if it was restored
That's a pretty clean place for a 300 year old abandoned building. I think it may have some supernatural maintenance people.
An Abandoned Shopping Mall Is Taken Over By Fish
No they weren't. The flooded building became a breeding ground for mosquitoes so the locals introduced fish to the water to eat the larvae.
Whether the fish were there first or introduced later, the fact remains: this was a people mall, now it's a fish mall. Mosquito larvae and swamp plants up for grub at the food court, and as you can see everyone's wearing all the latest fashionable colours!

They're interchangeable. It's like "Skilift" and "Chairlift".
Load More Replies...Moreover, according to the professor, abandoned objects and places are also appealing because they invite imaginative play. “When we see worlds collide like this, we can’t help but wonder: what happened? How did things get this way? Then we get to exercise our deductive and storytelling abilities as we piece together clues to answer our own questions. Sometimes we do this for the sheer fun of it all.”
Lisa continued: “and other times, images of discarded objects and decaying places can even get us thinking about how we can make imaginative but real change in the real world: what economic, political, and social arrangements caused this to happen? How can I work with other like-minded people to make sure that doesn’t happen in my own part of the world?”
Abandoned Train
knew it looked familiar! That's in Russia, Permsky Krai, Shumkovo. Officially the trains are not abandoned, they've been left on those tracks for conservation after WWII as an emergency reserve in case of a new war. USSR fell, the trains were no longer needed, security was mosly removed. There are quite a few of them there, some are old, some are newer, some are even open. There's another currenly functioning train 'parking lot' (what's the word in English? it's like a winter base?) nearby. Some old trains have been recently removed but most are still there, it's a rather popular destination for photographers and fans of adandoned locations.
Your information is very welcome and informative.

Load More Replies...This building has been bought by the Ford family and is currently being renovated to serve as a tech center of sorts for Ford as well as other uses! It's being returned to it's former glory with much needed updates (tech)!
This is an old picture. Since early 2019 Ford Motor Company occupied this building and began to renovate it. Like most of Detroit, it is on the rise, being rebuilt, but of course the national media spews 1980's imaged of the city. Shameful. It is a foodie paradise, and no one makes better pizza.
I agree about the pizza and the Thai food and the Greek food and the....ah, well. But the old building really does look cool. And YES!!!! Detroit does not/will not die but rise!
Load More Replies...This is it today July 2024. This was the grand opening June 6th 2024, it's gorgeous !!!! IMG_202406...1cf50d.jpg
Exterior is grand would like to see it when and if Ford restores it!
I actually rode the train from there back in the '80s. That building is so cool! Wish they could have repurposed it. I believe it has or will be torn down ....but not sure.
Bethlehem Steel, The Factory That Built NYC
I live in Bethlehem, its a monument to our past. That portion was left on purpose or can we say recycled as living history. There is a trellis you can walk where you can learn the history of the Beth steel and how it build this country not just NYC. If you are from this area for more than one generation likely someone in your family worked at the Steel. For me: my dad, uncle, grandmother and great uncle to name a few.
Here in Buffalo, we too have a HUGE abandoned Bethlehem plant. It only recently has a new steel company move in but it only takes up 1/100 of the 5 square miles of that plant. I too had many family members work at Bethlehem, black lung and all. It really is the story of the loss of American industrialism to world trade imports. But ours doesn't look like a scene out of the first Batman, starring America's boy next door, Michael Keaton.
Load More Replies...stunning! it almost looks like a battleship from this angle....great historical monument.
Its nice that history was not erased. Incorporating public park space into the history of your community is awesome. I live in Pittsburgh and the shopping centre near me incorporated relics and structures of the former steel plant into the design and public spaces. Bike/walking trails on the olde rail lines reminds us of our past as we look towards the future.
Abandoned Indigenous House In Papua New Guinea
I've seen documentary about a tribe that builds houses like this. They build it incredibly fast (few days). Whole tribe lives there including little kids, they can even make fire on stone foundation without worry as the wood used to build this is so hard it doesnt burn.
Incredible. Usually hard wood like that (iron wood?) is very very heavy. Must of been hard getting it up there.
Load More Replies...Weren't a lot of these houses built like this in places that flood a lot?
Former Hydraulic Laboratory At Cornell University
Unfortunately not open to poke around, but the view from one of the numerous bridges is wonderful. This is something students see everyday...right in the middle of the campus. Worth a vacation trip.
Load More Replies...I remember this from when I lived in Ithaca in the '50's-60's. The lake above (Bebee lake) froze very solid in the winder, and that's where we learned to ice skate.
Looks like a place in need of a mad scientist or a supervillain. Where do I apply?
On the outside, that looks like it would be an awesome residence, but it probably gets quite humid and moldy.
King Alfred's Tower, Somerset County
This isn't exactly abandoned as it was never lived in. It is what is known as a folly. A lawn ornament for ridicously wealthy aristocrats. This one has been featured on BP before.
Please keep off of the grass, shine your shoes wipe your...face
Load More Replies...Giant signal tower. Imagine the flags they draped on all the sides in order to place a long distance call.
Abandoned Psychiatric Hospital
This one would be super creepy to run through, especially at midnight on Halloween.
Nope nopity nope...Only people die there. The insanity stays forever....
Across the river from Ohio University used be the 700 acre abandoned State Mental Hospital looming from to top of several hills. It was as creepy as it sounds and a rite of passage to sneak in and see things like the abandoned doll room and the unreadable gravestones in the inmate cemetery.. One day the school bought the land and turned it into a senior living facility and student dorms. Fortunately they realized the error of their ways and its now classrooms and a political science think tank. There is still a child care center near where the cemetery used to be so there's that.
I love the Ohio University... so many fun stories
Load More Replies...Care in the community = leaving the mentally ill to die on the street

My ancestor's home in East Texas still stands today as well. It was built when Texas was a Republic and not formally a state.
Abandoned and still well biilt of stone with a metal broom. good for the 'guy.
You're lucky, all my great-odd grandfather did was work in the Lever Brothers soap factory.
Electric Car Company Lot Left To Rot After Bankruptcy
Just think of all the rare earth metals, that we are incredibly short on, in the batteries. stupid humans.
Load More Replies...What an incredible waste... Rather leave them to rot than do something good with them. Why not give them to charity or something similar? A bureaucratic system that creates such waste is a broken system.
Not making light of what an awful waste of resources this is, but did the company go bankrupt because no one wanted to buy aqua & white striped cars?
Fleet vehicles maybe? Perhaps the company that ordered them went bankrupt?
Load More Replies...Aren’t those Mini Coopers? There are so many. My dad has one and they are so fun to drive around.
No, they're a Chinese knockoff model made by a company called Lifan.
Load More Replies...You'd think when they declared bankruptcy the bank would auction the cars off. At least that way they are being used and then bank recovers some costs even if it is minimal.
Due to liabilities I think they would have had to give them away free so there was no responsibility to the manufacture.
Load More Replies...They legit could have just given these away... this defeats the whole idea of electric cars doesn't it? You make electric cars to be more environmentally friendly.. so instead of just giving these away to people in need n like... moving us forward in terms of our carbon footprint... you're too greedy n hypocritical to actually do something that could change lives n help the planet. That's seriously infuriating.
Strange they were not liquidated. Perhaps these cars are not fully fitted so have little value to end consumers?
Moorehall, House And Estate Built 1795 In Mayo, Ireland. It Burnt Down 1923 During The Irish Civil War And Has Been Abandoned Ever Since
I was there last year (I live about 3 hrs away) and it is really creepy and supposedly haunted. My Dog ran away from me down a tunnel behind the house and wouldn't come back. Note to self, research the place before you go, don't go on a misty day, and definitely go earlier in the day so you don't get stuck in the woods at dusk....😳 There are some really cool wood carvings of local wildlife dotted around the grounds though!

Is nobody going to say anything about the two full size AEROPLANES that are stuck next to it!
Don't quite get the connection between airplanes and two 15th Century Italian artists, although I do know that Leonardo da Vinci invented a sort of helicopter!
Why does it look SO dusty and dirty just after a few years? What a shame. Love that palette table. What a great idea for a place! Too bad it closed.
Oh, that's from the plane turbines, the thrust kicks up a lot of dust!

this bike dates back to the 1950s and belonged to a boy named Don Puz. The house that Puz lived in burned down, and he received the bike as a donation. But Puz didn’t like the bike—it was too small for him and the handlebars were more like that of a tricycle. As his mother Helen told the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber, one day Don and a gang of friends went into the woods to play. Puz was the only one on a bike and when the boys went home he simply left it there. bike-in-tr...5ecbb5.jpg

Looks like a whole bunch of engines. Possibly parked there for spares and then came the end of the steam age and nobody had a use for them any more. Same would happen in the US with all the aeroplanes parked up in the desert if we suddenly stopped using jet engines.
No, there are train cars behind the engines. Lots of trains have more than one engine car, in case one of them breaks down.
