Deepti Nair and Harikrishnan Panicker, two artists collectively known as Hari & Deepti, create beautiful and detailed dioramas out of paper that look like epic visions from ancient fairytales. The Colorado-based artists, who are originally from India, were inspired by Balinese shadow puppets but have since developed their own unique style.

Most of us start losing our wild childish imaginations when we grow up, but not Akiko Ida and Pierre Javelle. Since 2002, these two professional food photographers have been shooting a playful series of dioramas called MINIMIAM (“miam” is French for “yum”) that place miniature people in a world of over-sized food. In their dioramas, Javelle and Ida arrange miniature model train in everyday positions and situations that connect playfully with the fruits, vegetables, pastries and other foods that they use in the photographs.

Earth is beautiful and full of surprises. So is Matthew Albanese, a New York-based artist, creating stunningly realistic landscapes from everyday objects and photographing them as if they were a part of the earth. Albanese named his project “Strange Worlds” for it really is strange to see coral reefs made from walnuts, or mountains built from cinnamon.
