There's no one right way to decorate an Easter egg – cultures around the world have come up with their own ways to enjoy this ancient tradition, and all of them turn eggs into beautiful and symbolic works of art.

Decorating eggs is a pre-Christian tradition (decorated ostrich eggs have been found in Sumerian and Egyptian tombs), so while this art is closely associated with Easter, you don't have to be Christian or even religious to enjoy it. If you have a creative Easter egg decoration idea, we'd love to see it added to this list!

Be sure the tie you use is 100% silk for this to work. And you can get about 3 re-dyes from each square.

I'd rather buy small pieces of fabric and donate the ties and scarves to people who don't have much instead of wasting them on eggs that will only be around for a short time. ... This could probably also work with newsprint, comics, and computer-printer images and patterns.

I think you need to use something other than a chicken egg. An egg with a more substantial shell.

??? Maybe try organic, free range chicken eggs as the shell is better, i think. Healthier. Thicker. ???
