Point out the flag was waving in a vacuum.

Note that both believing and doubting require a leap of faith.

Wonder if the real story is something even stranger.

Make a joke and watch who laughs nervously.

When a major news story breaks and the details keep shifting you:

Wait for more information before forming an opinion.

Feel confirmed in what you already suspected.

Check what's happening on the less mainstream channels.

Wonder if the shifting is the story.

Find it exhausting and move on.

How do you feel about the ingredients label on your food?

I read them but I'm not alarmed by most things.

I know what half these words mean and that's enough.

I've memorized the ones I don't allow in the house.

I photographed it once for a thread I was writing.

Some of these sound like they were invented in a lab.

I've sent a photo to a group chat before. Not saying which one.

Which of these would make you genuinely reconsider a belief you've held for years?

A primary source I hadn't seen before.

Someone I trust telling me I'm wrong.

Honestly? Very little at this point.

Evidence that the pattern I identified was wrong.

New data showing a real health outcome I missed.

Nothing. But I'd enjoy the debate.

You get a vaccine and feel slightly off the next day. You think:

Probably nothing but I'll note the timing.

I looked this up beforehand and was prepared either way.

Correlation isn't causation but I'm still logging this.

This better not become a thing.

What do you actually think about people in positions of extreme power?

Most of them are just competent careerists.

They coordinate more than we're allowed to know.

They respond to incentives like everyone else and that's the problem.

They have specific agendas around what goes into our bodies.

You're driving and you notice you've seen the same model of white van three times in an hour. You:

Genuinely consider pulling over.

Think about how surveillance infrastructure has expanded since 2001.

Remember a study about how urban vehicles cluster in predictable patterns.

Check if it has any unusual equipment on top.

A scientist says a new technology is completely safe, and it's been approved by regulators. You:

Trust the process but stay mildly alert.

Ask what the long-term studies look like.

Check who funded the approval process.

Accept it unless someone presents contradicting data.

Note that regulators have been wrong before and recently.

Make a joke about being a lab rat.

Which sentence makes you feel most understood?

I just want to know what's actually in it.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy. I'm saying it's weird.

I've done more research on this than most people in this room.

I'm skeptical of everyone including the skeptics.

Independent researchers sharing findings mainstream outlets ignored.

The kind that makes you say I knew it and also wait what.

Find out which part specifically they don't trust.

Think they've earned that position.

I find it fine for basics and useless for anything important.

Ask what the evidence base looks like.

Start tracking every variable you can think of.

Take it as a data point without spiraling.

Appreciate that someone is at least asking the question.
