“What Were You Thinking?“: Woman’s Dress Choice Sparks Debate About Wedding Etiquette

Something old, something new, something borrowed… but not something blue, for heaven’s sake! A wedding guest made an accidental outfit faux-pas at a wedding, showing up to the ceremony dressed exactly like the bridesmaids. Luckily, she survived the embarrassment and recounted the incident.

Taylor Fogarty, from South Florida, USA, was left mortified when she realized the floor-length pastel blue dress she wore to attend a friend’s wedding was the same gown as the bridesmaids’.

The 28-year-old was left “dying inside” during the nuptials, saying how she felt awful for making the mistake.

She told Kenny News: “I immediately started going bright red and my stomach was in knots.

“I just got so uncomfortable I wanted to leave, I fully couldn’t enjoy myself.

“I didn’t talk to the bridesmaids, I approached the bride at the reception and apologized.

“I was so embarrassed I felt like I had to say something.”

As per The New York Post,  Taylor said that the bride, who she had met prior to the event but wasn’t close to, insisted she didn’t mind.

Nevertheless, the South Floridian claimed she could tell the wife-to-be felt “some type of way about it.”

Taylor said she kept on bringing the accidental faux-up with other guests at the event because she was “so embarrassed.”

She recalled: “An older man said something about it when I was getting food at the buffet.

“I just walked away dying inside.

“It makes me cringe.”

Earlier this month, Taylor took to her TikTok account to post a video documenting her humiliating ordeal.

In the video, which was viewed 4.6 million times, Taylor briefly captured the line of bridesmaids before turning the camera to the lower part of her gown, exposing the doomed likeness.

My Roman Empire is the time I showed up to a wedding in the same dress as the bridesmaids,” she wrote in the video.

People had quite a lot to say about her cringeworthy episode, with one TikTok user commenting: “Girl that is straight out of David’s Bridal, what were you thinking.”

David’s Bridal is a popular American clothier that specializes in wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, prom and homecoming dresses, quinceañera dresses, flower girl dresses, other formal wear, and alterations.

“Put what color my bridesmaids are wearing on my wedding website & to please avoid but who knows if anyone will see it,” someone else wrote.

An additional person chimed in: “That’s a literal bridesmaid dress.”

Taylor reportedly said the whole event was a lesson learned, and from now on, she would ask what bridesmaids were wearing at future weddings she attends.

Taylor’s awkward mishap sparked different reactions on social media

And yet men can wear nearly the same looking suits and they don't get articles like this shared around. I agree; this is garbage content.

OMG...I need to be absolutely 100% sure what I'm wearing to the wedding doesn't match the bride's sister in law's cousins brothers underwear!!! Honestly why should anyone care as long as nobody but the bride is wearing white and there isn't anyone showing up in red to say "I slept with the groom before you did!"?? (Imagine if it was the bride's brother in law!!!)

Personally, I'd like to know why she wore a gown like that to someone's wedding. It's horribly inappropriate to dress all fancy/cleavage/look at meee! When it's not your own wedding.

This could be important, I learned a LOT of s**t what not to do from my older sister, she was an example to me, of what NOT to do. She's dead now.

Idiocy. Anyone that would be bothered that someone coincidentally wore the same outfit as someone else is delusional.

Ikr? Like what is with "bridesmaid colours" "wedding party" etc? It must be an exclusively American thing because I've never heard of something like this except online. Wedding guests are guests, you wear whatever tf you want or get basic guidelines if the wedding is formal/informal, and as long as you're not in white (sometimes black) you're just fine

If you're close enough to wear a bridesmaid-style dress (which you can be without actually being a bridesmaid) then it's not that bad unless people think you did it on purpose.
