Expressing an opinion that differs from the majority can sometimes feel intimidating because, on the inside, we all want to be accepted, not judged or rejected due to our opposing viewpoints. However, if we all think the same and agree with each other, there would be no new ideas, no progress. Luckily, the online environment makes it easier to express our personal opinions that might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and the people under this thread used it to their advantage, sharing their 'wokest' beliefs and sparking quite a few debates in the process. Scroll down to see them for yourself, and don’t forget to upvote those you actually agree with.

In my opinion, one can never be too woke. A "woke" person strives to expand their views beyond the norm, to learn more about others, and to become a better human...to name three examples, but there is so much more to being "woke". What is the alternative? Ignorant? Sheep-like?

Why do you think they are so against "woke"? They want people to be ignorant, believe their lies, and do what they are told. They don't want protests, editorials, or comments against their agenda. People might actually try to change the political landscape to reflect actual benefits and enforce rules of law.

In Canada, the PPC (People's Party of Canada, run by former Conservative Party of Canada leader) had their leader get arrested for violating health laws during 2020. He's exactly like he-who-must-not-be-named, except he's never been elected in his new party, and he served his sentence through, and hasn't won an election since being arrested

In many countries that is the "official" stance- including the USA, where the 1st amendment stipulates that Congress will not make laws that establish an "official" religion, while at the same time not prohibiting any religion. Funny that lately religion (and precisely one) is used as an argument for regulations and laws... Sad tbh

Yes, but....supreme court here also said the owner of Hobby Lobby was personally having his religious freedoms harmed by an insurance company providing benefits to Hobby Lobby's employees that included birth control. Oh, and that other one out of Colorado where a person's religious freedoms were found to be actually harmed because a hypothetical business they might want to open would be penalized for discriminating against the public on the basis of *checks notes* religion! So you see, the US is a place of diverse people and application of laws. 🤣

Retired teacher here, and religion as literature is fine. And also fine if you include ALL religions, all mythologies, all the stories. Teaching as indoctrination? Not legal, very propagandistic, very nationalistic. I LOVED Old Testament as Literature, New Testament as Literature, and Apocrypha as Literature from UCLA Extension. I learned a LOT from those classes.

Teaching little kids that they'll get tortured for eternity if they don't fit into a very specific box is a form of abuse and brainwashing. Kids should only be exposed to religion when they've developed critical thinking skills. Of course religious people don't want that because they know that brainwashing kids and weak minded people is the only reason their grift is still around.

Honestly I truly believe in a hard separation of church and state. As in if you have been active in religious groups with designs on molding the government into their vision you should not be able to hold office. I'm not saying that you can't be religious, go to church but keep it within your community. You have to be able to represent the people you disagree with not try to legislate compulsory adherence to a belief system in direct conflict with another person's belief system. Jesus said something about his kingdom not being of this world, I think.

The phrase “woke” or “stay woke” appeared around the 1940s, when it was first used by African Americans as an expression meaning to become woken up or sensitized to injustice, says linguist and lexicographer Tony Thorne.

Initially, it was a term, primarily used in Black communities, that later began to appear in songs and movements like Black Lives Matter. It was only in 2017 that the Oxford Dictionary added the word ‘woke’ to its database and defined it as “being ‘aware’ or ‘well-informed’ in a political or cultural sense.”

The upper age limit is when you die, or become so senile you can't do the job. The other end is more structured. I haven't seen any 6-year-olds running for office, but there are plenty of 20+ year-olds getting involved.

Twenty years is a good absolute maximum for members of parliaments, senates, judges, and other elected bodies. Twelve years for heads of government and heads of state.

The problem is that Schools have taken to pushing ideology, and not facts. Educators are meant to teach you HOW to think, not tell you what to think. When curriculums start trying to follow up a history lesson with "and this is why white people are evil, everything is racist, and all your problems are a direct link to events that transpired hundreds of years ago" That's the problem. When they biology teachers start saying "ultrasounds , genetics, DNA pssht, that doesn't mean anything! Gender is a construct and you have to wait for your child to tell YOU what they are, and your job is to reenforce that...because if you don't THEY"LL DIE" That's a problem. When teachers encourage children to cheer for the terrorists, and long for communism, that's a problem....and it's a problem because the expectation is that to think anything else, is evidence of hatred, and discrimination. To be able to think, means being able to see every side of every issue, to weight all facts and potentialities.

Those countries that have age-appropriate comprehensive s*x and relationship education in schools have lower rates of teen pregnancy, lower rates of teen STD rates, and higher age at the time of the first sexual experience. They also have more young people being happy with their first experience (as opposed to regretting it, or feeling co-erced or not ready and rushing into it). S*x education works-there's a lot of evidence and data showing that.

There's no valid argument against choice. Per the US Constitution, you are not a citizen until you are born, therefore a fetus has no rights. Per the Bible, you are not a life until you are born and receive the "breath of God." Forced birthers just want to control women; there's no other reason for their stance.

I've never wavered from my pro-choice stance, but I do harbor a controversial opinion that would have many people up in arms. I'm anti-IVF. When replicating your DNA takes precedence over adopting in a world that is grossly overpopulated, I simply can't back that selfish decision. It's a short-sighted desire that doesn't take the child's future into consideration as we continuously run out of habitable resources.

I'm not anti-IVF, I understand it, I just think it's selfish. Me and my husband have been struggling with infertility and IVF isn't an option for us, I am so against it for me. I do accept it in others, though, I just would never make that choice myself. Edit to add: if your love as a parent is conditional on your child sharing your DNA you probably aren't going to be the best parent.

Over time, the word evolved to encompass and signal progressiveness. However, people who think of themselves as woke have abandoned this term because individuals with opposing views started using it to insult others with more liberal and social justice-focused views.

“When the word “woke” was being used by woke people, it wasn’t a word they obsessed about, so perhaps it is inconvenient but they wouldn’t mind much about having to abandon it,” Thorne said.

To a degree, perhaps. My heart goes out to the people who cannot marry or choose not to marry because I have seen them treated as less-than. That’s not okay and I thank God I am surrounded by people who don’t see single folks as less-than also.

Hate to say it: It all goes back to social media. One post of someone doing it, and all follow suit. It's become exactly what it was not meant to be. Connecting family, friends, and some others, has quickly turned into strangers stalking you on the internet.

It continues to reinforce the idea that one s*x/gender is better than or preferred to another, instead of the idea that a child is to be celebrated regardless if it's gender. Children should be treated the same regardless of s*x, gender reveal reinforces the idea that each s*x is so different and that s*x is so important and should define how a child is treated before even being born.

We're already seeing people stripped of their rights in all sorts of ways, by several governments. Do we really want people to be making this choice? What are the requirements? Who sets those requirements? What are they based on? What if you don't meet them? What if the requirements are such that you can never meet them?

This is of course true. I know of a woman who keeps churning out kids that are, eventually, all taken away because they are not properly looked after. Yet she continues, telling herself that 'this time the child will stay with her'. Of course it never does because the mother is totally inept at given even the most basic care and the fathers are just ships in the night. The children pay the price of this woman's selfishness.

I am kinda happy about it. A kid will eventually grow up and will get back at you when you are old and weak. Meanwhile, a pet will always remain helpless. In my book, animal cruelty should be punished even more severly than crimes against humans. Only a real monster can hurt a helpless creature.

I'm not against this. There are many people who should take classes and pass a test before being allowed to have children. I would prefer that they use school dollars to teach both sexes about childcare and responsibilities. If you're going to get pregnant, you should know the consequences and be aware that you will be responsible for that child for the next 18 years.

Anyone wishing to have a child "in the normal manner" should go through the same level of vetting, background checks, and other investigations that Mrs. TriSec and I went through to adopt. There should not be a double standard just because your reproductive organs work.

I’m also not OK with people treating me poorly or vice versa over politics. I have both ended and nearly ended relationships over political disagreements for that alone. The problem is, and this is very evident in the comments section of every post on this site, it's not really about the political opinions. You don't understand the political opinions or the thought process that goes into them. You don't want to, all you care about is that you, and your opinion are not being validated, and you justify your mental lapses by screaming about how everyone will die if you don't get your way. It's childish entitlement, and it's the exact reason that 11 million people abandoned the democrats to register as independents between 2020 and 2024.

It’s not a difference of politics, it’s a difference of morality. A difference of politics is when I think there should be a stop light at the intersection of Elm St. and Pine St., and you disagree. It’s a difference of morality when I’m against masked ICE agents with no warrants or ID kidnapping people off the streets….and you support that.

I can maintain relationships with friends and family who have different political opinions. I love a good debate and hearing strong points that contradict my opinion so that I can shore it up or adjust my views. I find it hard to maintain those relationships when the opinions turn into actions that I don't agree with (harm others) or outright prejudice.

This just comes to show that even though we have the freedom of speech to express our opinions however we want, those who do are still suffering consequences, no matter how trivial or significant.

However, this shouldn’t stop us from voicing our views on social justice, as it’s the only thing that can push progressiveness forward. So if you feel like your opinion matters and it has to be heard, feel free to do so, whether online or in real life. Just please be sure to do it with your own safety in mind.

In the UK there is allegedly a housing shortage. However, in almost every street in every village, town and city there is at least one empty, derelict, abandoned house/flat and that's before we even start on empty shops and commercial premises. Nobody ever seems to want to address this issue of bringing them back into use. There should be a law that any property that has been empty for mors than a year should become the property of the council and renovated for accommodation.

At this point many of the laws are just stupid. Which would you prefer: a room that maybe has no window, cold water, and composting toilet, but it does have a locking door, a bed, and a small fridge and induction plate OR a wet cardboard box on the street where you be r***d and assaulted? Granted people should have more than the first option, but how many people don't even have that, and we justify keeping them on the streets because a better option just isn't up to code. The US especially is so d**n all-or-nothing--and this country prefers to give the poor nothing. We could easily proved food, housing, education, and health care, but prefer not to, because then someone might get something for nothing, dammit.

Except for the fact that 80% of all suicides are committed by men! Why? Well because women have spent years screaming that men don't matter. They're stupid, useless, evil and everyone of them is made out to be a predator, just waiting for the opportunity. And quite often, because so many women also encourage men to be vulnerable and to "open up" they do....and what happens? They've mocked, dismissed, have their vulnerable moments used against them, or they're negated by some woman coming out and saying dumb things like the above. Admitting to something small minded and ignorant....while trying to justify it, to excuse it. Here's the thing, it doesn't matter if you're a misandrist, misogynist or any other meaningless identifier used to make broad statements about an entire group of people....you're absolute human garbage. From the US Dept. of Justice: "Of the estimated 4,970 female victims of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter in 2021, data reported by law enforcement agencies indicate that 34% were killed by an intimate partner (figure 1). By comparison, about 6% of the 17,970 males m******d that year were victims of intimate partner homicide." Roughly 1740 women and 1078 men killed in 2021 by their intimate partner in the U.S. 1 in every 934 female deaths in 2021 was IP violence and 1 in every 1705 male deaths in 2021 was IP violence. Murder doesn't even make it on the top 15 list of causes of death in 2021. Heart disease, cancer, COVID, accidents, s*****e, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes grab all of the top spots. I guess its good that we're better at dying naturally and killing ourselves than we are at killing each other.

Misandry sends men off to war to die in pointless wars. It hangs Black men for rapes they did not commit. Even today in many countries, it sends men into workplaces that are death traps. Tell me again what it is that misogyny does?

In the bible, it is recommended married people use s*x workers rather than cheating with other married people or singles. And of course most pagan religions endorsed it. Here in Canada we demonize the customer not the worker, if the customer is male.

Every employed person uses body parts to get the job done, and depending on the job determines which body part, be it the brain, the vocal chords, or limbs. S E X workers just use body parts that most of us don't use to get our pay checks. And I know for a bonafide fact, that a lot of workers using the "normal" body parts can wreak more damage and punishing results than an entire city block of S E X workers can.

Professional sports. No need for the misandry. Professional female sports also use a huge amount of public facilities and public money to produce. To me, it is the cost of resources being taken from citizens and residents over all and being focused on the tiny minority to produce professional athletes that is the injustice, more than the entertainer level salaries a tiny percentage of professional athletes get at the end. I'm thinking especially football (both soccer and football), gymnastics, polo, equestrian, and swimming -- sports that rich countries and unequal countries excell in.

No, not literally nothing. Professional sports can do many things that sports in general can't, and do other things to a much bigger degree. It can bring people together across a number of borders (sadly, it can also separate them, but that happens less). They often have a huge economic impact, creating jobs not just for the athletes, but untold numbers of other people. They can also, at times, stimulate urban development. They can encourage healthy physical activity in many (particularly young people) through inspiration; They teach about healthy living, discipline and perseverance. They provide role models for young people. They provide entertainment and emotional release. They can challenge social norms and promote inclusion. Professional sports can do so much. They aren't perfect by any means, but "literally nothing" is just incorrect.

Yes, we in Canada look down on the USA for its Indian Wars and use of outdated language. People decended from the first humans to live in a place year-round are aboriginals in Canadian and Australian English. A "native" would be a person born in the place they live, so many aboriginal, maybe indigenous, or maybe a descendent of a settler or a conquoror/conquistador.

The aboriginal people who live in the US area have never to my knowledge largely wanted to be called "aboriginal". I've heard American Indian, Native American, First Nations, and various other terms, but never aboriginal (to date). My Ojibwe friend said he didn't like "Native American", though because of in Ojibwe, if you are third generation, you are native, so I was native, even though I was of European descent. He preferred American Indian as a general term, as did his grandmother, who was kind of a famous activist at one point.

Meanwhile, my mother (as much as I adore her, which is a lot!) paid more for me to replace my dead Android phone with an iPhone because “she preferred the blue text bubble”. You are a sane individual 😆 It really depends what you're doing/what you want out of a device. When I was using Android, I went all out using retro game emulators because gaming is my *thing*. It still is, and Android still does it better, so I have a separate device to do it (which is kind of annoying but first world problems, amirite?). Apple, now that I'm older, has more appeal because I just want stuff to work and have less time and patience to fiddle with it, but the price is disgusting (especially after the "tariff hike" that we got in Aus. A max-spec iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB is dangerously close to AUS $3k now). If I was paying for my phone, you can bet I'd be buying something like a OnePlusWhatever-they're-up-to and not paying the exorbitant amount of an iPhone or a Samsung.

Yet nurses are generally paid very well and it's a female-dominated profession with strong unions. I'd argue teachers are underpaid, especially in the US, because the pay is dependent on local property taxes. People HATE paying taxes. And paying teachers more would require higher taxes. We're stuck.

There's no need to rise taxes to pay teachers better salaries. You only need to spend it wisely. The problem is NOT lack of money, but priorities.

Teachers are underpaid because Americans, at every income level are allergic to paying adequate taxes to fund the things they claim to care about. Public schools are funded primarily through property taxes. You want teachers to be paid more? Advocate that YOU pay higher taxes. Second, if women are systematically being paid less, why does anyone employ men? Hmm....well because the whole notion of the "pay gap" isn't based on actual salaries, but based upon lifetime earnings divided by the number of PRESUMED years of employment. That's it. It doesn't account for different jobs, different levels of education, hours worked...or for instances in which someone may have bowed out of the workforce for some period of time due to having children. If a woman is a nurse and a man is a doctor...there's going to be an earning disparity, the same as if the roles were reversed. That's not discrimination. The equal pay act went into effect in 1963. Different jobs have different value

In Canada, the majority of school teachers have always been female. And since the 1960s they've been one of the best paid professions that requires a simple three-year degree. (Now it requires a four-year degree.)

... best paid professions? Please do tell how making 60-90k a year while a pipeline monitor with no experience or even a high school education makes 200k+ a year makes teachers a best paid profession. My yoga instructor and hairdresser both make more than a teacher makes. My truck driver cousin makes double. A dental hygienist makes the same as a teacher.

What I don't understand is if most caregivers and teachers are women why don't they teach children in a genderless manner instead of reinforcing the stereotypes. Kids' brains are like sponges, so teach them young that gender has nothing to do with reaching their goals or earning a livable salary.

its interesting in general when you think about it kids spend time with both parents, but daycare, kindergarten teachers, elementary school are mostly female dominated. high school is sort of 50/50. our societies kids are brought up for a very big part by women yet still we say they grow up in a patriarchy. where do these kids then learn these values while growing up when most raising is done by female role models during early development?

It's a female-dominated profession because it's one in which you can work parttime. Many women still don't feel the need to work full-time because their partner does. As a consequence, there are labour shortages and waiting lists. If the women in my country worked 4 hours a week more than they do now, waiting lists would be significantly slashed. Just recently primary school teachers received a pay increase. As a consequence, teachers slashed their hours because they now can have the same income with fewer hours and this led to teacher shortages which, of course, is detrimental to the children.

Which teacher works part time? I mean, yeah, they surely exist, but part time jobs exist in every profession. Usually it's a full time job. Your "women are lazy and just want to work as little as possible" stinks of jealousy and misogyny. As if men wouldn't do the same. GTFO.

Maybe complain to the proper authorities about the loser teachers you know rather than stereotyping an entire profession based on the worst ones? All doctors are bad because one misdiagnosed me. All lawyers are overpaid because I lost my case. All chefs are hacks because one overcooked my steak.

It isn't necessarily hard, but it is also prone to mistakes. A friend had two boys. One transitioned to female according to them, but doesn't dress feminine or look feminine in any way. I was introduced to the individual but there's just zero visual cue that they're now female. It's very easy to slip up and say "him" or "his". The second boy was non-binary for several years, and that's a whole different challenge. Also simply looks masculine, so training myself to say "they/them" instead of "he/him" is still very unnatural to me.

All bodies, face people are not, nor will they ever all be beautiful. Beauty is rare, exceptional. Saying everyone is beautiful is the same as saying no one is.....but that's not the point. The rise of body positivity, "healthy at any size" and the narrative that the only reason morbid obesity is viewed negatively is due to "unrealistic beauty standards" No...it's the fact that obesity increases the risk for heart disease, kidney disease, fatty liver disease, lung disease and a myriad of cancers. Less than 60 years ago, the obesity rate in the US was 13.4% for adults and 4% for children. Today, it's over 40% for adults, 20% of which are morbidly obese and 21% for children. Type 2 diabetes cases have increased from 200K in 1960, to nearly 40 million today, with another 140 million people being classified as "pre-diabetic" $300 billion in health care costs and $1.4 trillion in lost productivity. It's not normal, it's not healthy and it's not something to be ignored.

Beauty is very subjective anyway. Not just in the way where I might find this vase petty while others feel that it's ugly, but our own perception can change completely from emotions. I had a huge crush on a man when I was younger. He was by any objective standard an ugly man. Looked like a bald goose. Really, nothing conventionally attractive about his looks. But the more I loved him, the more beautiful I saw him, even though I still knew that he was not. If you "go close enough", everyone is just as beautiful and just as ugly as anyone else, it all just depends on how you feel about them. You can admire the very pores of the skin on someone you love, and be repulsed by the same on someone you dislike.

Human behaviour is contagious; the more there is of one kind, the more it spreads. Instead of spending time around mean people and comments, maybe consider searching out "good news" sites if only to leaven the pain of the news (e.g., The Good News Network, The Happy Broadcast, freekibble, and so forth). Also, start skipping the news stories that you know will just upset you, but that there's literally nothing you can do about it. Spend a bit of time in prayer and meditation, and guard your heart through exposure to human good, not evil.

Some people are mean, many are not mean enough. Many have been manipulated, gulited, shamed and gaslit into either silence or to actively support things they don't like, that they have known would have massive consequences further down the line because they didn't want to be seen as bad/mean/intolerant. That many are now finding their voice again, standing on their principals and voicing their own beliefs isn't an attempt at being mean...it's standing up against those who are.

Human beings also need to be taught how to behave. If every time your child throws a tantrum, and you respond by showering them with attention and treats....that reenforces bad behavior...and they grow up to be insufferable, entitled adults who believe that the best way to get what they want is to make everyone around them miserable or uncomfortable. In fact, we've seen that eventuality on display....pretty much everywhere for the past decade or so. You want to feel heard and seen? Communicate it in a clear, calm, healthy and mature manner.

I disagree with this perspective. I mean, on the surface, you're right, but none of us are free of the influence of society. We've essentially moralised productivity, 'welfare' has been made into a dirty word by politicians, housing is treated as a luxury instead of a human right, healthy food is expensive, some jobs require both a driving licence and access to your own vehicle, in some countries, a job is practically a prerequisite to accessing medical care. On the surface we all have choices, but when it comes to survival, we have less than it might initially seem

Humans have always worked to avoid starvation and homelessness. The only difference now is that most people work to earn the money to provide those things instead of doing them directly (building shelter and farming, hunting, or foraging for food).

The sheep must eat of it starves. Other sheep cannot do its eating for it. Like sheep, we are made for this. Where do you live that has forced work? Most countries provide people a choice of jobs and employers, including self-employment. And most countries have a social welfare system that prevents people actually starving. In most countries forced work only exists as a party of misandry, conscription into the military for some years, or as the universal evil of slavery.

In 1900 40% of americans worked in agriculture, and 31% in manufacturing. Today, 66% of the workforce sits in air conditioned offices. Farmers, woke before dawn, and worked until sunset...children often began working the farm at 5 or 6 years old (in fact child labor laws didn't go into effect until 1941) No machinery, no electricity. Horses, oxen and blood sweat and tears. If you didn't work, you didn't eat. Wanted a house? YOU built it. Clothing? YOU made it. Manufacturing jobs had no safety standards, no health standards, no vacation or sick days, and you worked 12/14/16 hours per day because there was no minimum wage and no job security. They built bridges and skyscrapers with HAND TOOLS. The 40 hour work week hasn't even been around for a century, prior to that, everyone lived to work. Yes, politics are in everything. It is how we decide issue that have no obvious right or wrong answer. How a group decides where to hold the Christmas party. How we decide if your university will expand the Faculty of Commerce or the Faculty of Arts. How we decide which side of some stupid war on the far side of the earth we're going to bomb back into the stone age. Whether our country (whichever country that is) continues with democracy, or whether we just agree to let a political and bureaucratic priesthood and their professional trolls decide everything for us. Whether we resume slavery. But a wise person changes their political beliefs and allegiances throughout their life.

Art can often be used to spread propaganda and such (like art forms like soviet realism), but that doesn’t make the entire concept of art political. Political artworks are a small form of art, but there are many others that have nothing to do with politics. I mean, would you call ancient cave paintings political?

Politics are how we decide issues that have no obvious right or wrong answer. Totalitarianism is when you think politics is how you justify shunning and jailing people who have different lived experiences and thus different opinions on what the right answer is. When someone holds a political belief that 90% of us disagree with, they are either stupid or brilliant. At 90% it isn't really a political issue any more. But easily, 75% of us can be wrong about a political choice -- look at the USA and slavery or Christianity and slavery or Judeausim and slavery or Hinduism and slavery. Look back on YOUR OWN LIFE, how many issues have you changed your position on?

In my opinion, while religions haven't always done the best things, anti-religion claims like this area also unreasonable. Religion is just the belief and worship of a higher power, like a god. While religion is sometimes weaponized, it can also do good in society (e.g. voluntary/obligatory donations under Islamic law, etc). Cults work through authoritarian structure and controlling what people believe, while many religions promote individual thought and open-mindedness. Personally, I am not religious at all, but come on. The increasing villainizing of religion these days is kind of insane.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of this is the result of politics itself and evolution. People are overworked, overwhelmed, undereducated, lied to by politicians and the media constantly, and feel powerless. To protect ourselves, without us even being aware of it, our brains begin to justify and support even unjust systems, because that justification and support spares us uncertainty and anxiety, even guilt, and avoiding those is really important to our wellbeing. I genuinely believe we need to empower people to engage with politics, but if you're interested in what I've said, look up System Justification Theory Jost and Banaji, 1994 (and following work)

Kids are depressed because they compare themselves to others on social media all the time, get false senses of what they need to accomplish, get their heads filled with weird messages and ideas, and spend too much time just doom scrolling when they are bored instead of actually doing something.

No, it's because their moronic parents hand them an iPad as toddlers and give them iPhones as tweens. Want your kid to succeed in the miasma of social media? Give them a flip phone, use parental control on their computers. In other words, start taking responsibility for raising your own children.

I was very glad to grow up and get out of my childhood and teenage years. I'm from way before the Internet and many teenagers were depressed as heck. In the 1960 and 70s, depression, s**ide and so on, very high for teenagers, and like now, much higher for boys than girls. S**ide rate is the best comparator for severe depression, because the defintions of the different levels of depression and the availability of diagnosticians has varied so much over the years and between subcultures and cultures. Visits to physcologists and counsellors are higher now, but due to the much higher availablity and much lower stigma. Just because people in famine-struck countries do not get diagnoised with clinical depression or dysthemia at higher rates than developed countries does not mean they are not depressed -- simply the resources to diagnose them are not there.

LOL! I asked ChatGP to "Write a single paragraph that expounds on the point of view: I hate AI." This is what it wrote: "I hate AI because it feels like a constant reminder of how quickly humanity is handing over its creativity, decision-making, and even emotional labor to machines that lack genuine understanding or empathy. It’s unsettling to watch industries, art forms, and even relationships become mediated by algorithms that mimic rather than feel, predict rather than understand. Instead of empowering people, AI often reinforces inequality, automates jobs out of existence, and invades privacy under the guise of convenience. The more AI evolves, the more it seems to reduce human uniqueness to data points and probability models, making life feel less personal, less authentic, and more controlled by forces we neither see nor fully comprehend."

My kid tried to put his foot on the inside of the oven door after it had been at 450F for 2 hours. I'm not trying to take away his autonomy or independence by any means.... but kids are not at the same level as adults either. They're still developing mentally and emotionally; there's plenty of things that parents should decide for them until they mature enough. The fact that my kid listened to an impulse instead of thinking the consequences of placing his foot on a HOT oven door pretty much proves that it's a good thing we're making the important decisions for him, LOL.

I agree so much. I remember when I was younger and Chinese hate was "all the thing". I had a woman (mother of a primary school friend; lost contact after primary school) make some "joke" about "ching chong" b******t and used her fingers to do the whole slanty eye thing. I just raised my eyebrows and said "... really?" at her. I think I might have been 14 or 15 at the time. Like, b***h, you say you're not describing me but you essentially could be (I'm South Korean born). But mores to the point, nobody deserves that sort of racism -- it's not cute, funny or anything. It's gross. It's not less gross because you know me and know that I'm not likely to "ching chong" at you or whatever. I hope she got from the vibe I was giving off that she was a racist ****, but given how ignorant she was to do it in the first place, who knows.

Nobody should be forced to be a parent. Forcing them is part of why we give the child the "father's" name -- the disgrace of not supporting a child that bares your name, which would have meant that the parish needed to support the baby and mother instead. I agree with Alexandra too, traditionally only the mother knows for certain the child is her. And yes, the mother is the one that did the carrying baby. I think in modern times it does make more sense for the baby to carry the mother's name.

In a perfect world, George, I agree with your sentiment. Problem is that, if there's an age gap, the older person could (and there are numerous criminal cases showing that people have) influenced the younger to state that there was consent when there wasn't. Given that, you'd have been fine to bang your GF where I live, because 16 is the age of consent. 😆

Not just for polyamory, but for a whole range of topics: we don't have to normalize something to respect and accept it. For example (as someone who is myself gay): being gay is not normal just in the sense that most people are not gay. That doesn't mean it's wrong and it doesn't mean anyone should be judged or disrespected for it; it just means that objectively, when you look at the numbers, it is not the normal occurrence. It's just the same as any other "quirk" that is less common, like having a missing finger or something. It's not normal; it just is, and it should not serve as a reflection on anyone's character. (I know these are sensitive topics; if any of the language I used was insensitive or disrespectful, I apologize and please let me know).

I'd be interested in knowing the science. Living in communes ("free love") was once touted as a good thing; however, subsequent consequences included shattered hearts, broken relationships, and messed up children. Believing something is desirable needs to be subject to actual intelligent observation and investigation. If you're familiar with history, you'll find the concept popping up frequently over the centuries, usually an idea floated by young males, and usually the consequences to females are quite poor. And worse to their children. Look it up.

So basically, people stating that they wear no makeup while wearing makeup and making young people view their "perfect" skin as something normal and easily available when it's not. And it create anxiety and insecurities.

This despite the fact that our planet has been screaming that it's running out of land and resources.

I'm not angry about a previously white character being a person of colour. I'm frustrated with the laziness and transparency behind it. It's tokenistic in many cases. It feels like an attempt by studios to show off their "progressive" credentials without actually doing anything truly progressive. Bringing more diversity into legacy characters is ok, but it needs to be balanced with more grassroots support for diverse artists and more diverse storytelling to get closer to a truly level field.

Transitions take time. It's good we're removing violence from childrearing, but making the right choice doesn't mean we have all the answers. Although I think Jo Frost has been an excellent example for decades. You can disagree with her on details, but overall, she demonstrated an effective framework for raising children that even decades later still isn't being broadly criticised

    Nikki Sevven

I'm going to be less harsh. How exactly does one parent successfully when both parents work and children are raised by daycare? I believe one parent should be raising the children. Either parent. But our society has been rigged so that no family can survive on one income. Most are barely getting by with two incomes.

    Becky Samuel
    Community Member
5 months ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

It's even worse than that. A child shouldn't be being raised by 'a parent', a child should be being raised by a group of people, a community. For example, Westernisation and slum clearance, whilst well-meaning usually mean families moving into high-rise apartments, one family to a unit. The children can no longer run and play outside or run to 'Aunty's' place, entryways are controlled by gangs, and the societal support falls to pieces. There is nothing less natural that I can imagine than a single parent sitting in their home with a small child and no support, no others around them. It's a brutal way to live that few can thrive in.

I think that a lot of people don’t like their independence whereas, say, a dog will be like “I LOVE YOU!”, you generally need to work with a cat for it to want to spend time around you, and frankly nowadays so many people want everything *now* and don’t care for putting in the time. Just IMO. I love cats and dogs both, so please don’t feel like I’m having a go at dog owners. I've also never owned a cat personally, so feel free to downvote me to oblivion if I'm wrong, but I have enough friends/acquaintances with cats to be comfortable with what I'm saying.

Nope. Drag is not misogynistic. OP doesn't know anything about the history and culture of drag. Here's a fun brief history of drag: https://www.strutherslibrarytheatre.org/blog/the-art-and-history-of-drag And this: https://www.hrc.org/resources/understanding-drag

To suggest that drag doesn't have some problems with misogyny is extremely naïve. The use of the term 'fish' is a good example, but there are plenty more. Whitewashing anything is unhelpful, we have to be able to admit that there are problems in order to be able to resolve them.

"Humans should go extinct because we kill the planet" is a very problematic (couldn't think of a better word) idea. Humans have co-existed and took care of the Earth for so long. It only got like this because of colonization and capitalism. And the people saying this aren't thinking of their friends and family and people that look like them. They're clapping when natural disasters happen in a country they never heard of because "the Earth finds a way to heal".

Unfortunately, there's paleontological evidence of species going extinct around the same time early humans arrived in most parts of the world. Colonialism and capitalism certainly did far more damage, but humanity has been causing unusually high rates of extinction for at least 10 thousand years

I don't like high pitch sounds, like sopranos and children, so that eliminates many female singers and a number of male singers. I also don't like women who sing in that light, fairy voice that I find so annoying. Not misogynistic, just have a preference for lower voices like women who sing Metal.

My opinion is, if you’re married, and you cheat on that person, which leads to a divorce, you should not be allowed to remarry. You have broken your vows once before and can no longer be trusted with the sanctity of marriage. If the divorce was amicable and no one’s fault, you can remarry.
